This is just great. A CSR manager just confirmed that my order had indeed been delayed until the 28th, and said there was nothing he could do. I asked if they could cancel my order and immediately ship out the quick-ship 1150NR model instead, and they declined.

So basically my options are to wait until the 28th and receive a $25 HP coupon + a refund for the 2 day shipping option (whoopie) or cancel the order.

The problem is, I really need this computer by the end of next week for business purposes. My current laptop is already being sold, and I simply can't ask the buyer to let me keep it for an extra two weeks. So, I'll be stuck without a reliable computer, trying to run a business, for about 13 days. To make matters worse, I can't find anything else with similar specs (weight and thinness being a major factor) for the $1000 that I paid.

This is bull%^@*. All I can say is, if I do decide to stick with the order, the computer had better get here absolutely PERFECT. If not, I will be raising holy Hell.

If you do cancel and want something with great battery life check out ASUS' UL series (they're also thin and light). Unfortunately they don't use the latest intel chips but they still get around 9-10 hours of battery life on a single charge with no battery addons, needless to say, don't expect it to compete with the Envy in terms of performance. I'm sure you could probably find a used macbook for that price too.

Also, you should be able to get at least another $50 back out of HP if that makes any difference. Also note that it may actually not take until the estimated build date for them to ship it (although it's still a pretty big inconvenience, especially in your case). I imagine it will get out pretty quickly once they have the parts.

I'm currently using a UL30A-A2. I love it, but it's just not powerful enough for what I need. I do game demos for people before building them a gaming computer (since everyone seems to be going with consoles these days), and lugging around my ~30 pound SFF system, plus a monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc. just isn't fun.

So, the UL30 is getting sold, and the Envy is hopefully what I'll be picking up. I really can't go with anything slower than a Mobile HD 5830 / GT 335M, and the Alienware M11x has too low of a resolution for my taste.

I'm beginning to think that the plane wasn't supposed to make a stop in France. Maybe our Envy's landed there because of the volcano ash in the air.

So I just checked again and it appears that my laptop left Paris approximately 10 minutes ago. Good to see movement again. Hopefully things will go smoothly from this point.

I would be happy with mine just being in the air right now. Still very irritated at a two week delay.

For their sake, I sincerely hope they ship it out today or early next week. If it takes a full two weeks in production, I will NOT be a happy customer and I will NOT be lenient if there are any problems with the unit at all.

Well at this rate, Fedex will decide it's a good idea to ship over a live volcano rather than over the ocean :) would you like the delay or the shipping then!

Such a shame :( Really weird decision on Fedex's part b/c afaik this was totally happening before they went to france.

I just called HP and talked to a clueless rep. My order was set to ship yesterday and first thing he said was "Well it looks like it's still on schedule to ship on the 15th". I told him that was yesterday and he's like, "oh well then you need to call back on monday and we get get you the updated tracking number." I then asked if there is any delays or if it will ship before Monday and he said with no confidence that there is no delays on my notebook. He then repeated to call back on Monday and I just said so....that's all you can tell me? Then he said I should receive the notebook by either the 20th or the 22nd.

That was it. Why is it that I don't believe him?

Anyone have any experience with either getting their shipping upgraded or a discount and affecting Bing Cashback?

Thinking of calling in to get shipping upgrade or discount, but don't want to affect my bing cash back pending (have 2x pending $95 each)

As far as I know, HP gives a credit to the card you paid with, the original invoice/reciept remains untouched. So I would have to say your Bing Cashback would remain unaffected because they would never know that you recieved a discount/money back because the original invoice/receipt remains the same as far as the total price you paid.

Well, not as bad as the other guy getting delayed to May...

    Dear xxxxxxx,

Due to product constraints we will be unable to ship your order on the original estimated ship date. The revised estimated ship date for your order is 4/21/2010 or no later than 7 business days from the original estimated ship date. If you prefer not to wait you may cancel your order by either replying to this e-mail message with your order number or calling our toll-free customer service number at 866-288-1610 between 7:00 A.M. - 2:00 A.M. (ET) Monday through Friday or on Saturday between 10:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. (ET). If you choose to cancel your order, your refund will be released by HP within 24-48 business hours of cancellation confirmation. The posting of your refund to your credit card, e-finance, or PayPal account is subject to your bank’s processing time which usually takes 3-5 business days.

If we do not hear from you before we ship your order, we will assume you have agreed to this shipment delay and still want your custom PC order. As soon as your custom PC is ready for shipment, it will be assigned a tracking number with our carrier and you will receive a Shipment Notification e-mail from us. You can then check your tracking number online to obtain the estimated delivery date.

We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused and thank you for your patience.

    Sincerely,
    Customer Service
HP Home & Home Office Store

How about upgrading shipping, does that affect the invoice?

Here's the real kicker if you chose to cancel your order. I ordered my Envy on March 31st, HP charged my credit card on April 2nd. My laptop was originally due to ship on the 12th, I got the delay email (until the 21st) on the 13th. On the 14th I called to cancel my order. The HP rep then tells me that they may not be able to cancel my order since the laptop is "in production". I remind the rep I'm speaking to that the email I received explicitly says that I can call to cancel my order as a result of this delay. Never mind that fact, your laptop may or may not still ship to you, we will *try* to cancel the order. Then I asked, how will I know if HP is successful in canceling my order? The answer is, "Well, you'll know because either you will get a ship confirmation or a credit will show up on your card at some point."

To me that's pretty poor. In the mean time I have a $1100 charge on my credit card accumulating interest for a product that I don't even want anymore.

^I agree. They shouldn't charge until it's shipped. I don't want HP gaining interest on my money for free for an entire month. I could have put that money myself into stocks and easily made enough money to cover the cost of the notebook itself (it's been a good month on the market).

On another note, I got a $25 gift certificate to HP now. What should I buy that the gift card will cover? I don't want to give them any more money.

Speak of the devil. Just a moment ago I got an email from HP confirming my order cancellation.

    " Hello XXXXXX,
This email is confirming your order (order number) cancellation. We have already started processing your credit. We hope you will look to the HP Home and Home Office store for your future computing and printing needs.

OK, I'm less annoyed since it seems I have avoided having the laptop sent to me and then having to deal with sending it back. I'll post again once the credit card is actually credited.

Okay. I have no plans to cancel the order.

Also, I recommend not buying high end "gaming" / "style" laptops if you can't afford to pay it right away. They really are a poor investment. I don't pay any interest on my credit cards as I pay off everything on a regular basis.

Ah. So you get a 1200% (or better) rate of return on your investments? Great. Then this whole "ordeal" shouldn't be much a bother to you then, since, with those investment skills, you had your personal assistant order the laptop for you and is taking care of the details. And you're just posting here now in this thread... because it's your hobby.

Man, I'd really like to upgrade my CTO system to include 1 or two of the intel 160gb SSD's. If they are really G2's, that's one hell of a bargain for what HP charges.

This would surely mess up my pending bing cash back wouldn't it...?

Mine just arrived in NJ within the hour after spending a 2 day vacation in the city love. I'm now tempted to go pick it up myself.....waiting till Monday is just pure torture. After this whole weird experience, I'm never going with the free shipping. You get what you pay for.

It seems like everyone of your posts have been just ing. It really gets me when it becomes irrational. I get to hear enough of that IRL. Actually, I don't see how HP is charging cards before shipment... I ordered mine over 11 days ago and no charge here. Most retailers will put a hold on funds / place a test charge. It's up to your bank to reflect this and remove it in a timely manner.

Other than being antsy, I really won't mind the delay much as long as I'm given (2) G2 SSDs. I have other machines to use in the meantime though so I can understand some people's frustration.

Lucky . $550 for two 160gb Intel G2's is an INSANE bargain. I can't believe I didn't latch on to that one. Apple would charge like $2000 extra for combo like that, lol.

edit: sigh, I keep forgetting about the censorship here.

What most manufacturers do is charge your credit card immediately after you past credit approval - they use these funds to ensure they can cover the costs to build your laptop. Perfectly normal, except I was just frustrated at the lack of communication and knowledge of the HP customer reps.

lol. Laptop was like 10 miles away in Newark and now I get an alert that it's in Memphis for some reason. Not like it matters much over the weekend but it's officially going in the opposite direction.

Yep same here. It has to be cleared by US international customs, and the closest FedEx location for that was prolly Memphis. After clearance you can pick it up from your local FedEx destination & that's hoping it's there by tomorrow(Sat).
