I would like to know (without reading thorugh hundreds of pages) does anyone here already has an Envy 15 with an Arrendale (Dual Core) CPU?
I would be really really interested in all the info you can give me concerning battery life. It seems it got worse with Arrendale compared to Montevina when looking at Sony Vaio Z 6h from the former 7.5h.
I don't want a Desktop Replacement which is why envy 15 was not of any interest to me with the Quad Core.

Conerning the Discussion about 520M vs. 540 or 620.
Here is a good comparison of all those CPUs inside the same Notebook. It is german but will eventually be available on the english site too, and the graphs look the same and they are what matters.

The Intel pricing is quite reasonable but none of the CPUs is really worth an upgrade. I'd always go for the 520M. 620M seems to have a lot of issues and 540M is maybe worth 20$ but not more.
Because someone said 1MB Cache differnce is significant. That is nonsense. Cache makes a lot of difference when it is small. 512 vs 1mb or 256 vs 512 on a Core 2 Duo. 3mb vs. 4mb is a marginal difference you will have troubles finding evidence for in Benchmarks.
IMO every one that opts for anything but the 520M (the only CPU that really seems to work well in the 35W TDP limit) is not rational to put it in a nice way.

Correction... Toyota was the original company, which created Lexus, to differentiate their product line. At least you got the Scion part right.

More pricing insanity on the eny 13.

Just looked at the 13 to see if any new cpu choices were available and noticed you can now upgrade to a 160GB (single) SSD for $200 from the standard 250GB 5400rpm HDD. Heck of a price for a 160 SSD, so I check out pricing on the parts list and to order a replacement they want $1159.....

Personally, I'd take a G2 160gb SSD to swap out. At least you'll get a drive that is fully supported rather than one that's locked into HP's firmware which doesn't seem like it'll ever get an upgrade. Raid0 is wonderful if you want to blow away benchmarks but both are plenty fast what you can actually see. It's up to you... go for better support or bigger bars in SSD benchmarks.

Eh, in terms of a number, I suppose it's a big difference. But in terms of performance increase, the difference is debatable.

I would also like to know about the matte screen.
Does it have thin horizontal white lines against blue or gray solid backgrounds?

    Here's the test:
    1. Open Microsoft Paint
    2. Choose Dark Gray
    3. Choose the paint bucket
    4. Fill in the canvas
    5. Stare at the screen and look for white horizontal lines

For reference, here's what the problem looks like:

I just got the coolermaster notepal u2. It's officially awesome. Very sturdy, fans are incredibly quiet, way more quiet than my laptop fans. I have to angle my laptop screen to about 120 degreess to get a comfortable viewing angle. Could be iffy for the envy.

Hey, look to see what type of RAM they gave you. I received 1066.

Also, does the coating look different from the older Beats? Mine feels a little different.

It seems the Beats were the first "refresh' models shipped!

I'm SORRY I tried googling HP discount codes, none works ok?

isn't there something like a control+f on this website to find discounts?

I guess as soon as the horizontal and vertical lines are equally easy to see, you are too close. :)

    That clip is hilarious.

According too all Intel Spec sheets I have seen. It has the same 35Watt Max TDP as the 540 oder 520. Which is part of the reason why it performs so bad. There doesn't seem to be much room for the Turbo or not as much as on the 520M. It will be a more interesting Chip ones the silicon gets tweaked and the avarage power consumtions drops further away from the 35 Watt. This first batches of Chips really operate too close to the max TDP.

Only Quad Cores get 45Watt TDP and they really need it.

    Two questions:
    1. What is the "operational angle" of the notepal u2? The pictures make it look like it's about 12 to 15 degrees.
    2. The website makes it look like you can easily take it with you in a laptop bag. Is this really feasible and would it scratch the laptop?

I ordered the Cooler Master Notepal D1 ( http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?product_id=2867), so I should get it in a week and see how it goes. A big selling point was that it has a rear intake and the website says it's 10 degrees, but even that may be too angled for the Envy. I might just break down and get the Zalman which is more like 7 degrees ( http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=280) I can use the Notepal D1 on my lap (actually designed for that) and the Zalman for my desk (since it's much heavier/bulkier/industrial).

I'll throw a video together tonight, but the cooler looks like its about a 30 degree angle, for my POS laptop i wouldn't mind carrying it but for the envy it I wouldn't do the whole cradle/strap thing, even though it does have rubber protectors on it. If you were just going to carry around your laptop gear in a bag then it wouldn't be too bad to have with you, but for someone like myself, I carry books and papers with me all the time with my laptop and I wouldn't carry the stand although it would fit between books nicely and take up virtually no room in my bag, so its not totally out of the question.

After running for 20 minutes the CPU temps on my gateway laptop dropped 6C case temp dropped 5C and HD temp dropped 3C this is at idle.

You know that the i7 that he has doesn't have an integrated GPU, right? There is no switching of GPU's when there's only one GPU.
