mine is making an odd clicking noise when I press down slightly on the wristpad of the notebook. Also few light scratches on the metal body too. Wondering if HP reused returned parts....
-
Anyone else that got the SSD or 2xSSD... check the model numbers.
Mine are saying G2... they used to be G1 intels
If this is correct! I am the happiest dude on earth! -
Is there a G2 in the long part #? If this is true, it's the best news in quite a long time. Almost hard to believe.
-
Mine is still in Memphis. But I didn't pay for 2-day shipping and HP never upgraded me, even though they said they would. So I am not shocked.
If you paid for 2-day you should get your machine today. -
1/29/2010 1:15:00 PM NEWARK, NJ, US Left FedEx Sort Facility
1/29/2010 2:01:00 AM NEWARK, NJ, US Arrived at Sort Facility
Monday delivery? -
where abouts you live? if it just says "left fedex sort facility" like that, it means its going to your nearest distribution point.
for me its probably going to come from Newark, and then head to Long Island City or something for a monday delivery midtown.. i hope -
what is the part number? can we get a screen shot of them in device manager?
-
Where is it making that noise? My old envy had it right along the front right side of the palmrest and in one another place along the side but both the creaky spots are completely gone now.
-
Mine is on vehicle for delivery. I am just sitting around waiting now.
-
Ill get a better shot later, this is from my cell camera:
-
Folks, I just called HP to ask why they didn't upgrade my shipping as promised. The CSR checked my account and noticed I was supposed to be upgraded. She then checked the tracking number and noticed estimated delivery day of Feb 2nd.
She apologized and offered to credit my account with $100
So if you were promised 2-day and didn't get it, call them. BTW, I was polite and calm all the way while talking, just a bit dissapointed
-
I wonder where are the pics, screens wathever about your new envys?
Sorry for saying in that way but, as we know we all bother john when he got his beats asking some screens, pics, benchmarks and all those stuff.
I guess isnt that easy huh?
Cause you guys are too excited about looking waths new how its goes here and there, that can post you screens soon.
Thats understandable, and dont get me wrong with that.
But I think we need to give an apologize to john.
Since I dont see here any pics of your new envy guys
and I'm dying to see some screens since mine isnt arrive yet.
Anyways have fun first enjoy it test it good and when finally are you happy with it (or not) post here your toughts.
Thx
Edit: when posting this I didnt see Isramair post, so my bad in that post -
those look like g2's to me.
Thanks for the screen shot! -
holy crap... G2's... OMG OMG OMG that's awesome. now we just need some trim support for raid...
-
Well, what would you like to see? If people are like me, they are busy reformatting or cleaning the bloatware.
-
i have 7 reinstalled on a single drive config now, i hope that even though there isnt a setting for AHCI in the bios, that TRIM will still be supported through the raid controller. there is conflicting information on this.
Ill have to dig out the trim test later.
So much to do! -
Anyone with an i5? The chipset is PM55 ain't it?
-
I think with device manager screen will answer a lot of questions
, to see wath chipset you got etc
Also I'm wondering its the i5 mobility radeon 5830 its DDR3 or GDDR3
-
If you guys can tell me where to go to find the info I'll be happy to post it up.
-
I have the same ssd drives. if these are g2's then the drives alone are worth half the cost of the machine.
I have also calibrated the monitor using the windows 7 gama calibration and the colors are much closer now, but still just a little less sharp..
but overall it is very good. -
I have the i7 with the 5830 and the memory type is ddr3 per ati catalyst control info.
-
TRIM will work if the drives are setup as single drives. Once you put them into RAID you'll lose TRIM. There have been rumors (probably more wishful thinking) that Intel will update their Raid controllers to pass the TRIM command onto the drives but there has been absolutely 0 confirmation or evidence that shows this has or is going to happen anytime soon.
-
The G2 does just fine on random writes even without TRIM. I think you will overall get better performance in RAID regardless.
-
Just confirmed on The Next Bench:
If you open up the Envy (take off the rubber feet, unscrew the dozens of screws), it will void the original warranty and any additional warranties that you may have purchased.
This confirms that you can not upgrade the i5 past 6GB without voiding the warranty. -
There are no seals on any parts of the case to determine of someone has opened it up.
Not sure how HP is going to determine whether or not you opened the system. Doesn't bother me as I am careful
-
I got my beats edition over a few days ago. I got the g2 drive installed along with a platter. It is quite exciting, and the memory is 1333 mhz too. The webcam works fine too which makes things helluva lot better.
-
I think your dwelling on this issue too much. This is no secret. HP clearly tells you on their site the configuration of the memory modules you buy (ex. 2x2, 4x2) and it is no secret that the i5 version like most other laptops only include 2 slots.
The HP Envy i5 version is truly able to hold up to 8GB max. Your only semi-valid complaint is they don't offer 4GB x1 option today in the configuration online. Of course, this option would be more expensive than a 2GB i7 with expandability to 6GB. -
Well, after almost a month of waiting and endless pages of hype on this forum, I turned on my new i5 Envy to find out that...a bunch of keys didn't work. So sad that after all the hype, I'm just sending my second Envy back. Maybe the 3rd time really will be the charm on Feb. 26th
For those with the SSD+250GB hd option, did your OS come installed on the SSD or the hd? Mine came with the OS on the hard drive and the data drive (empty) being the ssd. Seems kind of backwards to me. Someone might want to verify. -
Thats why I got the i7 quad because its going to be able to expand 8GB without touching the innards giving 12GB total but an electric screwdriver will make short shrif for those 100 screws
Still waiting. Fingers tapping -
Hopefully there are no seals, but is this confirmed for the 2nd gen?
-
There aren't.
Just screws. It is pretty easy to take apart
-
Jeez, dude... that sucks. Is HP at least giving you expedited shipping or something?
-
I am going with the answer I got from fredfrenzy on the next becnh (he is the envy product manager) who stated in writing the envy 15 i5 is upgradable to 8GB 2 x 4GB. There is nothing I have seen anyplace regarding opening the case will void warranty.
-
Got mine today morning
Found one issue with the touchpad - it seems a bit loose on the left side. Is it the same for everyone? -

Could you please run CrystalDiskMark and post your scores. If indeed the random read/write speeds are fixed, I'm going to reorder this baby asap. It sucked returning a $3,100 dream laptop, but I couldn't stand the fact that such a premium laptop wasn't operating at it's full potential. The throttling doens't bother me much. The only other concern is the lines with the screen, but it would seem that the issue has disappeared with the matte screen. I'm willing to guess even the new glossy ones probably don't have the issue. Nonetheless, the breaking point for me was the SSD performance and if this is confirmed to be fixed, I'm coming to HP for some more Envy. Thanks in advance.
-
My fingers are crossed for a G2!!!
And if the OS is installed on the 250, I will be upset! -
The SSDs are in fact Intel X18-M G2 HP drives!
They are writing at 104MBps, compared to the 80MBps i was getting with the G1s before.
This was a VERY pleasant surprise! -
Wow!
sweet that HP decided to use the G2's and also the price is fantastic via hp
-
As requested:
-
Anyone with a Matte screen can you post who your manufacturer is. Thanks
-
Mine came today but I wasn't here because it said it would come Tuesday! I'm going to my local fedex to pick it up in a few minutes!
-
Just got mine.
It looks gorgeous, but the fans are loud and there is a whine when it is idle. That alone is enough to send it back, but it is really nice and I am hoping there is a way to fix it.
And god damn there is so much crapware on this thing. It is literally slower than my netbook at this point. -
Errr! I want to drive down to the sort facility and get my envy now! It arrived about 20 miles away at 1740 and now it will just sit there til Tuesday...I'll give hp a call and see if they can't switch it to me picking it up
-
In retrospect I should have upgraded to the SSDs. It was probably the best pricing wise. It was a choice of getting more storage or less but faster storage with SSDs.
I'm hoping the price will drop rapidly as more vendors start selling these. Both Kingston and Seagate came out with some new ones recently and more are coming. -
So what exactly is "expedited shipping" Why do the customer service reps keep lying to me? I called when it was delayed and they said it would be automatically expedited, yet here I am with 5-7 day shipping. I called hp tonight and they said there was nothing they could do.
-
If you point me in the right direction for where I can find it I'll be happy to let you know.
-
Right click "Computer" in the start menu and hit properties. Click device manager in the upper left of the window that opens. Expand the "Monitors" section and see what it says.
-
Mmm, now that it turns out that they're G2s I'm kind of reconsidering SSDs. I'd pretty much decided that it was still too early, I'd upgrade in a year or so when prices were lower. But as is you're getting them at half price, so... Might be worth it, needs thought.

How can I check memory speed?
