@PhatCat
Go back and read the original posts and think about what you're writing- you're using terminology that isn't interchangeable with each other (i.e. speaker ports = audio ports = audio (input) jacks; speakers = speakers). Even mobilezila, who originally posted "speaker ports" in the beginning, corrected himself by using "speaker" instead on his second post..
Anyway.
This is my first time actually anticipating for something to show up on the HP online store. Does anyone know if HP updates their store during the midnight of their proposed release date, or do they slowly do it in the morning? I know they'll have it up by noon for sure, but the wait is killing me![]()
I'm also wondering if they'll offer configuration right off the bat, or just sell presets till later (didn't they do that with the 1st gen ENVY15, where they strictly sold in presets, and then they offered configuration with the 2nd gen? Maybe it was just a US thing..).

In audio writing, a port on a speaker is an opening from which sound emerges. For example, a ported speaker has such an opening in the enclosure, whereas an acoustic suspension design does not. The vents on the front of the Envy 17 are openings from which sound emerges. -

For Bing CB to work, you must follow instructions precisely. In particular, you cannot apply any coupon, EPP discount, student discount, etc. -

For anyone interested in using Bing CashBack, I just posted detailed instructions on the Envy 17 Owner's Lounge thread.

Does the warranty get discounted with the total price?

And got my Bing Cash Back e-mail for $762.50 from the computer and another $75 from the 2 year accidental damage warranty. Time to change my sig I guess. -
I thought it could support up to 2TB hard drive, but I only see up to 1 TB on the site. What's up with that?
-
Yay! Placed my order too!
-
Darkui I believe someone mentioned it being able to use 11.5 drives to make 2tb.
I also have a question that I dont know if its been answered. The i7 board comes with 4 available dimms, correct? -
-
-
-
And why is this.... That really kills my dreams of stupid amounts of RAM. One more question the Beats 15 doesnt have a backlit keyboard does it?

I have posted detailed Bing instructions on the Envy 17 owner's lounge. The short answer to your question is that you should do a search for "HP laptop" once in Bing and follow the Bing Cashback link on the first result. A window will pop that says 25% ... -
Anyone notice this on the US website? lol:
"An optional 1080p Full HD screen with super sharp 1600 x 900 resolution and 72% color gamut" -
For anyone who is a costco member, they currently have a screaming deal on a 2 yr HP laptop accidental protection warranty w/ Lojack for $99. Yes, it's real HP service and no that's not a misprint. It is send-in service reather than in-home, but users on the Envy 15 forum report that any non-trivial service on the Envy 15 requires shipping it back to HP anyway.
I got this recently for an HP dv8t I purcahsed for someone else. I have read all the fine print three times and can find nothing that excludes the Envy line. I am buying it for my Envy 17 and will report on the experience once I receive the machine.

Holy crap, this is cheaper than I expected.
I was on the verge of getting the Envy 15 but now I have no clue, because they're the exact same price. :O
i5 430
500GB hdd
1080p display
Battery slice
External dvd drive
$1625
The exact same config is the same price on the 17.
It's trading weight and size for the 5850, extra hdd bay (so I can eventually put in a SSD boot drive), and backlit keyboard. Just reading that, the Envy 17 is definitely ahead, but weight and size are definitely issues for me. I have a 6860FX right now, and it's way too big. It's 9.25 lbs and too bulky to be comfortable on my lap (which I like to do.) The biggest advantage for the Envy 17 is the extra hdd bay, so it'd be easy to get the SSD in the future. I guess I could do it on the 15 too, but I'd need a 1.8" hdd, plus there's some problems with the 15's SATA controller.
Ah, the 17's extra battery is just one that sticks out the back, not a slice. EDIT: Or is it? Can't tell from the description. -
Why do you think you can't get the 1920x1200 WUXGA screen on this? It would be a perfect clone of MBP 17. I find this 1920x1080 to squat; I prefer a more squarish display. Why the $*#)($*# can no one make a MBP 17 that is MADE for windows?
-
DAMN IT! The 17" comes with slot drive?! Lol! Man. Still like my 15" size more, but slot drive would've been nice.
-
Will be deciding in the next 2 hours which direction I'll toss my money.
the HP comes out to being ~$250 less than the MacBook Pro I was looking at, with a few decided advantages for me:
-dedicated 2nd HDD bay for *natural* dual HDD's without giving up the DVD drive
-more powerful GPU
-in-home support
-should run cooler
-less expensive
but a few drawbacks as well:
-unknown screen quality (still my most important factor)
-unknown build quality
-heavier
-less awesome touchpad
hmmm. I was waiting for Bing Cashback to come back to eBay, so today is the day for me.
Maybe I'll buy both machines and return the one I don't want. Timing is crucial with the eBay sale...and my custom Envy wouldn't even ship for another 2 weeks.
Pulling the trigger is entertaining. -
Doug -
seriously. no reason to get the MBP if you don't want to run OSX primarially. you lose the MBP's real advantages (no multitouch, mediocre battery life and non replaceable!). the only things left are the looks and the screen resolution. neither of which are worth $400+ by themselves.
you'll be a happy man with this Envy. with the MBP, you'll be an irritated man with a pretty computer. be happy.
also: has anyone ordered yet??? -
