    Compatible, yes. Boot, no.

Far better to get a SATA SSD. Faster Read/Write and bootable. Save your 2nd mini PCI port for wifi like 5300.

Anyone find a better deal for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit than this one?

    http://bensbargains.net/deal/120100/

Also is there any difference between the OEM version and the full version?

Yes, OEM license is tied to the machine you install it on.

Question: What exactly do you think Ultimate has that is worth paying the extra coin for? The code base on all versions is EXACTLY the same. all you get with ultimate is bitlocker and 35 extra languages. A few trivial extras that should be free since no one really uses them.

Be smart, save money, get home premium. Unless you REALLY have a need for obsolete XP only software for which you need virtualization - then get the professional edition.

Meaning that if I install it on the HDX, and get a new notebook I can't install it on that or anything else other than the HDX then? If so I take it that with the Full version that would mean I could install it to any machine.

I may need XP yea. I found with Vista you get less setting options if you get away from Ultimate, which I thought was the same with the Ultimate vs Profession vs Home editions of Windows 7. I want the most settings available for networking and such. Bitlocker would also be cool.

X9000 is irrelevant unless you're comparing score of another X9000. Folks with overclockable X9000 & 8800M GTS will get a higher score but funny enough will get the same FPS in games as someone with a lower clocked T9300.

What's the Sm2.0 and 3.0 score? That's the graphical content. 3Dmark06 is a composite score of CPU & GPU tests.

I'm sure everyone who has an HDX w/8800M GTS gets 6.7 for WEI. WEI = :p

In any event, by saying "why bother?" when you haven't tested out the driver seemed a bit weird. As if it couldn't go any higher.

Though, I get why you wouldn't want to switch given that there's no 3D glasses support ATM.

The label shows only UJ-220 without S after the 220 (firmware S is different), so forget about Sony's firmware. I also note this is not Made in Japan, but a 2008 production date is OK. As you can see HP didn't forget their logo :)

No, the Sony S versions (not firmware) read UJ-220S. Sony do not put their logo on the sticker, and drives I've seen were Made in Japan (Panasonic/Matsush ita) for Sony (i.e., OEM). For the UJ-2 10S, the latest firmware can be obtained at:
    http://esupport.sony.com/CA/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNAR390E&upd_id=4477&os_id=28

In any case, if it is an HP UJ-220S (maybe?), it should read MATSHI TA BD-MLT UJ-220S ATA Device (note the S) in Hardware Manager.

Got it. Thanks. Hey so if one were to get a UJ 210 or UJ 220, what is the best one to get, the Sony one so that you can get firmware upgrades without a problem? I was thinking I'd like to get one that CAN be put into the HDX if I wanted to OR be put in an enclosure to use with other devices. Any recommendations I guess from Ebay?

Get one that is Made in Japan (for best Blu-ray reliability). This seller, for example, is known to refurbish/upgrade firmware, thoroughly check all drive functions before dispatch, and they give you a 30-day warranty:

    just a couple questions first:

are you out in the snow with the dragon? the white specs might be something called snow. :)

do you have a new wallpaper that involves a snow scene? the specs might be snow in the picture. :)

    pics please?

Nothing new. It just started showing up and noticeably got worse. Right after posting the question I put my Dragon down and just came back and there is no sign of them. I mean it just went from a few to all over the screen but are now gone. That's really weird, but thanks for the response.

Through the new USB virtualization in Win7 Virtual PC Windows XP Mode (not present in Virtual PC 2007), you are able to use old legacy hardware devices that do not have Win7 drivers, instead of throwing them for recycling. For example, XP Mode pumped 'new life' in an old all-in-one printer-scanner I have that didn't work under Vista or Windows 7 due to lack of drivers (and XP drivers didn't work on newer Windows). It now works perfectly well under Virtual Windows XP mode in Win7, with the old XP drivers installed under Virtual Windows XP. One can easily move scanned documents and images (scanned in XP Mode) and documents for printing (generated in Win7) between Win7 and Virtual WinXP.

it's new and likely comes with the latest firmware, as I doubt there are new pre-2008/2009 drives still around for sale. why do you want a Sony? There are also the Dell OEM UJ-210/220--equally good. I would only ask the seller if their drives are Made in Japan!

I guess I'm trying to find a brand new one that will allow a future firmware availability that will work in the HDX. Preferable the UJ 220, but I'd be willing to look at either. Id think an updated firmware for the UJ 220 though would make it even faster.

No firewire won't work in Win7 XP mode. USB virtualization refers to win7's XP mode USB virtual drivers.
