Noooo....... you're not supposed to say the AFX is reality. That was my point. I was hoping it was April fool's day.And thus I apologize if indeed they will be able to put UHD on a 'laptop' (ignoring all other questionable specs).
I've been depressed since the 22" WQUXGA IBM monitor disappeared, only to have medical facilities foot the bill for the overpriced junk we now can't buy for our homes. I guess there is no standard resolution for UHD? (WQUXGA?.......7680 x 4320?........WQHD?). I am only a dabbler in computer engineering, so please enlighten my confusion on what UHD is, because there is logistical reasoning behind it:

And, I apologize for my encryption. I'm a writer. Can you give me newbie points or something?
I'll be waiting for the announcement by 2.0, California time.

Digitalwindow,
THANK you for those charts!!! That really sums up all of those resolutions in my head!!
I come from the monochrome/CGA/EGA/VGA/SVGA world -- everything after "SVGA" (800x600, from my understanding) was just "higher resolution".
I honestly didn't know what kind of whatever-GA my Dragon has -- just that it does 1920x1200. I've always spent the extra cost for the extra resolution. I sit kind of close to the screen (even the Dragon) and the extra sharpness really does help!
Anyway, those charts are now saved and GREATLY simplifies explanations for me!! With aspect ratios to boot! Super cool!
Reps to you, man!

2.0, just messaged me, he will be in meetings with HP today for the great announcement. I think i will be able to post a link to the video of the AFX later today, after he messages me the ok to do so, per HP corporate.
writer huh? well writers cannot write so ya that makes sense that you are a writer. it's the editors that do the real work.
-
ok guys. announcement will be made today at 5pm Eastern time/4pm Central time/2pm Pacific time....i imagine you can find the announcement for HP's AFX on their regular site, or elsewhere in tech blogs or whatever, but you will probably hear about it here first/easiest....so all of you tune in then!!!!
Comptrekkie is sooooooooooooooooooooooo lucky that he got to preorder one already...i guess that's the perks of being on the inside. I'm willing to spend maybe $3500 to configure mine. I imagine that fully super duper loaded it'd be in the $4500 price range.
btw, digitalcamo the writer, i don't think UHD refers to the resolution in pixels...if your chart shows what UHD is defined in pixels you wouldn't even see icons on a 21 inch screen (they would be crazy small). They showed a demo of it in the video, and it looked more like WUXGA or similar, if you ask me. I think the UHD means ultra high density or somethin referring to the power intensity/brightness of the led's they are using (just a guess
)The thing was ultra fast to load apps and stuff.

update: i am allowed to post a picture of the new AFX but not until noon EST.

Just so everyone Knows and this does not get carried away to much this particular post was "April FOOLS!!!"
I did not order anything and do not personally know Rahul Sood.
I had to monopolize on the situation!
-
since you mentioned it....all of my posts were April Fools also....
or were they???
-
it's kinda mean

here is a picture i promised.

Just read the other posts, You Got Me. It was kind of cruel, but funny non the less.
-
I realize not everyone in the world observes April Fools. But if you're from the US or UK, then well, hope you had a small laugh at least. All in good fun.
For those of you from outside this region and who may not be familiar with April Fools chicanery, I ask that you forgive us our custom and those of us that were involved in and/or perpetuated this prank. -

That was fun! But I do wonder what kind of next all-in-one PC would be worthy of its own Gatling-post lounge.
-
You almost had me going with my first post. I found it very unlikely that I could not know about it and that there was no media hype to help sell it, but I was optimistic due to my want of such a beast.
But after 2.0's post about Rahul Sood I knew for sure what was going on and had to get in on the action.
-
Ya know I left a clue in the very first post after dv7t's first "announcement". I wonder how many people saw it? lol

Nice! I have a better one somewhere---it compares WUXGA with WQUXGA, amongst others---but here's this one from online:
I'm hoping for tile monitor paneling pretty soon when they break the 'smaller than dpi visual acuity discernment' so that I can just put as many on my wall as I want to create a virtual wall/window. And yes, I just patented it

april fools yesterday, that was a good one! ...and here i had my heart all set on a retro dragon like this one below

it's true....highlight his post after i made the AFX announcement (page 1,008) and you will see his original response in white text.
his ALMOST part of his post, made me think...."hmmmm....maybe i can keep this going actually!" -
i wish i had a real link. it would be the dragon's DAUGHTER anyway
how else would she proliferate the species.
-
ahhhh...good....will add you to the list of people fooled!
-
i am glad i could pull something out of the air. something to remember for us dragon owners. thanks for those that went along with it
-
why? why would that be obvious. is he not really in charge of this or something? i dont get it. what part of that was a giveaway (the misspelling of his first name)?
-
Because Rahul sounds like a terrorist
-
add you to the nonexistant informal list of fools. i think 2.0 wants to actually do something like this (better looking i am sure) pic you posted.
-
did you click the thumbnail?
-
Haha yea didn't fool me, as I posted why it made no sense at all. But I decided to delete it, put "wowee zowee" in there and see where it went and how long it would go for. I was going to post some more exaggerated cto story about how Raul Julia let me make one with two 50 inch pull out screens, 24gbs of ram, and how it was an Addams Family themed AFX that allowed Wednesdays head to pop out and physically tell you the time on each hour..but I figured that was too much. The only thing I couldn't figure out was why it was AFX. The HP tech told me it was an old April Fools joke based on some video that was produced, but I wondered if she made that up.
-
I think I threw up in my mouth just a little bit.. lol. Ew. -
The one thing that gave it away for me was the AFX part. Everyone knows that HP is VAIN. They need their name and/or initials in almost every facet of their models, especially something as big as a new HDX lol.
-
hmmm...why does the HDX have hp in their name? H D X???
-
everybody knows that if you substract X with D you get P
-
LOL.......i would think it would actually equal T, but funny nonetheless.
-
I was already suspect because there was no media hype all the way to the day before the release and all my HP inside info pointing towards it not existing.
Then 2.0 confirming that he leaked inside info. Also if something this big was being designed by Rahul Sood I would definitely know.
All the Aprils fools jokes aside I do really work for HP.
It was a good prank, If it were not for my HP employment I may have been caught up in the moment and been duped.
-
Speaking of which, yeah, no, I don't work for HP.
Just in case anyone was wondering. -
and for the record...i am NOT an award winning graphic artist.
i know...i know...it's misleading, from the awesome AFX graphic/pic creation of mine...but ya...i am not. -
Haha, yeah. Mad skilz, chica.
-
Awwww...this almost as bad as finding out the easterbunny ain't real!
-
i know. i remember when i found out when i was a little older...i was devastated.
at least santa claus is real. i don't even know what i would do if there was actually no santa claus at least. -

I'm still working on whether I can create a mini jungle by putting a Chia pet next to some sea-monkeys, so I'm just gonna ignore the hatin' on Mr. Easter Bunny.
Thanks for keepin' it real with Saint Claus, dv7t
Hey.......that's an idea! A Chia pet laptop! Wow, now we're talkin' carbon footprint reversal! Oopps! Apple must've been listening:

Hi everyone.
I would like some help with my dragon.
I would like to use this in a automobile.
any recomendations, on a power inverter.
I bought a 75w type and the screen flashes and will not charge.
thanks in advance. -
are you serious? in the car? are you serious?
-
i dont know if amberlamps is serious, but the only time i was PHYSICALLY even able to open in a car was in the big pickup truck cuz i have a big wide metal center console thingy that it fits nicely on.
in the other cars...forget it...you cannot even really do it.
the power adaptor, if you actually have a dragon, new poster, is 180watts...you should know that of course if you have one and are asking about wattage. i think you can get away with a 120watt one, but not lower. sorry amberlamps.
i've got a 300 watt (continuous no just peak) one myself. i image a 200 watt continuous would do the job well. i plug in a couple other things though, so i have more watts. -
Still no progress on the BIOS update eh?
-
Thanks for the help.
I just bought a 300 watt inverter on ebay for 24 dollars.
I have been a lurker here for sometime and have used
the great advice, from the posters.
I will be upgrading hard drives and memory soon.
At first, I thought the dragon, would never leave the cave.
but I have a mobile work flow now.
I use a vintage U.S postal leather mail bag,
with foam inserts. I always use this as carry on on a flight.
so far, the dragon has truly seen the world.
It has been used in the lodge in, firodland New Zealand
been to Rome and traveled by car through Europe.
last week it took a trip to Salt Lake City.
It was a life saver ,when a snowed in flight , in Denver was delayed 12 hours .We set up a little movie theater in the airport ,Then off to Moab, Ut shot 4 hours of video a day, and captured the video to the dragon at night in the motel.
The vehicle is a Chevy Colorado, 4x4crew cab, The laptop stays on the floor, in the back seat, with the camera and tripod, IT fits fine on the bench seat in the front, I have pulled over to pick up Wi Fi
and done editing in the truck.
When I get the inverter, I won't even need to go to a motel, to charge the camera and laptop batteries. -
Wow, that's why I bought the alienware m11x. A lot of power in a small factor... I would never use my dragon to travel around the world. But that's just me
-
Digitalwindow Notebook Evangelist
Now that's using the Dragon to its fullest! -
Happy Easter everyone! Hope it's blessed and safe.
-
Who'd be working on it? That would be nice to know. -
So, I put windows 7 on my dragon. No real problems, other than quicktouch, but that program was cursed from creation.
Anyways, I have my 5.1 surround hooked up, works fine, until I try to play bluray. Quickplay and me haven't been the best of friends and now, under Win7, he chooses to not recognize my blurays at all. So I was able to round up a copy of PowerDVD 10 and play my blu's that way. But now I am only getting sound out of my center speaker.
So my questions are 2 fold.
1. Why won't quickplay recognize my blu's anymore?, and
2. Why am I only getting sound out of my center speaker while playing my bluray through powerdvd 10?
Thanks for your help.
