Yes Norton is E.V.I.L.

Ok so I decided to keep my hdx since the temps don't seem abnormal at this point and there is some heat but I guess that is expected with the equipment inside this thing. I just formatted thinking I was sending it back, and now need to install an anti virus ( yes I reinstalled all the drivers I needed and it is clean other than those
. Any suggestions on free or not free non system hogging anti-virus'? Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!!
EDIT: Yeah I probably shoulda searched before posting, as I'm sure there is something in the anti-virus section.
Still if you have one your running on this machine that you like please let me know.
Also I found a lapdesk that I'm ordering from this place...
http://www.levenger.com/Pagetemplates/Product/Product.asp?Params=Category=5-344|Level=2-3|pageid=1096|tab=Reviews#Content
And it still has room for me to use a bluetooth mouse as well!! -
Does anyone here connect to a co-ax cable for their TV signal with the HDX? Does HDX tuner even have a co-ax connection? I live smack in midtown manhattan, and I'm trying to figure out other alternatives should I not be able to get a solid OTA-HD signal.
Thanks. -

I own a HP HDX and think it is awesome. I have found a few cases or bags to carry this monster around. I have bought an eBags Weekender Convertible. It is a backpack. It works great. Here are the specs of my HP HDX

4096 MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
320 GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive (SATA)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS with 512 MB GDDR3 Dedicated
Blu Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN and Bluetooth
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
My desktop is a beast also here are the specs
24" Acer widescreen lcd
Dell XPS 420
Intel Core2 Quad 6700 overclocked to 3.325 GHz

320 GB Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Evga NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS with 512 MB
Standard Dvd burner
LG 6X Blu-ray burner
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
I also own a Playstation 3 and it looks get on my 42" Sharp Aquos
I also own a HP Color Laserjet 2600n printer and a 320 GB Buffalo LinkStation Hard Drive
Everything above is connected to my network -
I would say go for one of those two. AVG is a great product, and both are free. Avast definitely has more stuff packed into it's free version, but I've only been using it for about 2 hours now! -
As announced, here is the picture from the PLL in the HDX 9320:
The numbers in the first two rows are different from the chip already shown in this thread but I think this will not effect the general type of the chip (maybe someone can confirm that).
I use this second dissasembling to try another thermal paste: NT-H1. Seems to be a nice one. -
I use the coax adapter with my cable line and it works like a charm. It was a cinch to configure in windows media center, and media center can pull a tv listing guide for your area and specific provider as well.
You can even configure it to use a cable box if you have one, or just use the straight analog signal on the line.
All in all it's very slick. -
None of these are listed in the HDX driver/software download section. Rather than linking directly to the softpack, link to the page that gives a description of the softpack which tells you what version number, release date, what computer it's for, what device it's for, what OS it supports, and what changes or enhancements have been made to the driver.
For example; This is HP's official driver update for the HDX's wifi:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&os=2100&product=3675225&lang=en
Anyone who clicks the above link will be able to make a better informed decision. -
Yep, it's the same chip. Last row is the model number. First two rows are manufacturing codes like lot number, location of manufacture, date, stuff like that. -
Hi guys, have recently purchased a Dragon. I have a question for you all. Can you see what your Treble and Bass levels are as you adjust them? I can seem to find anything on the HDX which lets you see your adjustment.
Any help or info would be great! -
Yep, right click on your sound icon on the bottom right of your screen (by the clock/date), click on playback devices, click "Speakers+Redirected Headphones" and click properties, then click on the tones control tab. You can also add enhacements like Bass boost and loudness equalization by clicking on the enhancments tab. -

Microsoft update saw fit to download and install what they consider a driver update. You should set your windows update to "notify me of updates but let me choose what and when to install."
To fix it, you have to uninstall the driver. Don't reboot yet. Delete its directory named IDT found in both programs files and program files (x86).
You should also clean out the registry entry found under HKLM/software/IDT. Just delete the entire IDT tree by right clicking it and hitting delete.
(You can access the registry by typing "regedit" in the start menu search box.)
Reboot.
reinstall driver from swsetup or from this location: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3330177&os=2100&lang=en
You should be good. If not, there is one more step of deleting things in the registery. -

hardware firewalls through router, correct? and how two?
are you saying comodo is good?
do you use any softare firewalls besides windows built in, for program access contral? -
LOL @ "Nut" I was typing on two screens at the time. I meant to say, Just as rumba says, comodo is very good. Can't go wrong with it. It's free and can be found here: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
And yep, I have two hardware firewalls. One router is house wide and protects the incoming internet feed and the other is for wifi feed. They protect in both directions with port and IP filtering.
BTW, most good wifi routers have firewalls. Dlink and Linksys do and I believe they are of the SPI variety. Not sure if they are enabled by default. -

Ok this is driving me crazy now... The volume touch button on the hdx, I push it to turn the volume up and it doesn't do anything, so I push it again and then the visual controls on the screen just stay there blinking for a long time. An it slows my system down when it does this... Almost to a point of locking up. Anyone else had this??
Has to be a software issue I would think...
One other thing... Does your guys' hdd light on the front blink constantly while you have the hdx on?? Mine is blinking like crazy and not sure why.. It's sitting idle right now. -

I have a fully loaded HDX coming from HP that I wont need. If anyone is in the market, private message me for the specs etc. Thanks

Jeebus! You blink and this thread jumps 10 pages!
Ordered a Asus EEE 1000h Netbook for kicks and I promise to post a pic of my HDX next to PeeWee when I get it! -

Que? I was just digging around in my nvidia settings and it says the bus is PCI express 1x. that a misread or am I truly operating off of a 1x bus?
-
175.97 3Dmark06 standard setting 1280x1024 = 7999.
175.86 " " = 7983
Not only that, but the colors, vibrancy, and sharpness are much improved.
Time to game...
(Thanks rumba!) -
looks like I got an improvement to install!!
Thanks rumba!! -
Question on the Nvida driver... Before installing, it says it's for the 9200m gs/9600m gt??
-
thanks!!
-
by the way do you have any idea what is this deal with this "info" (found in the event manager) which probably is the cause of minimizing my game while I am playing?
"window manager unable to start because composition disabled by a running application" ????
(guess I am going to try the new driver just for the fun of getting upset again) -
TheOriginalGiga Notebook Consultant
what is truly the point of the windows indexing? faster searches?

This site is the best for setting up your screen. Do it fullscreen with the lights out.
(And a big BOOO! to the read only PLL)

Or are you saying I should roll back? -
What rumba says.
I haven't tried any of the 177's personally. My bro did and said it sux0rs. With and without PhysX. Had to uninstall and do a system restore. -
Alright this is weird:
I keep having troubles with the Nvidia drivers, not because of the video but because of the sound (as I mentioned in the past I connect the HDX to a flat screen through HDMI) -
Today the weirdest things happened: while messing around with the options I briefly managed to get the sound but I just did it by changing channel on my TV then going back to the HDMI channel - In that moment I was playing both a mp3 on WMP and I was running the game at the same time. Notice that with the original graphic driver I had no problem at all... anyone has an idea about what's going on? -
-
-
Now if we could only turn off VSS and system restore... -
I just rebuilt my system too -
Hey guys what do you use to clean your HDX
Thanks in advance

As for Superfetch, indexing and Windows Search... being a very organized individual, I have no need of these services and have disabled them. A noticable improvement was gained. What's more, no hard disk thrashing.
I also do not use Outlook. It's a virus conduit. I have always used web based emails. I've never had a virus and thus do not use real time anti-virus programs. I use web based and non-real time anti-virus programs to check on the occasional questionable files before using them.
In any event, for most folks, the new Microsoft tools are pretty useful. Especially those with lots of files all over the place and not much time to organize them. Photos, music, songs, videos... they can pile up faster than one can put them away properly.
