If a system like WWoods' comes back in with a problem that can't be readily identified and is replaced with another unit (or in his case a different system), it will go through a process of analysis and troubleshooting, and depending on what's found or not, may wind up back in engineering. Point is, it takes time for systems to go through the Support/Refurbish pipeline and to be offered for sale again. Keep your eyes open.....

Hello!!!
I have a x9000 ES q174 and a t9500 ES Q9WW
i CAN ISTALL in HDX9280El with mainboard bios f40 E?
If no, thera are a solutions?
?im a people italian disperate -
Yes, you can install both those processors. The question is what is your current BIOS version?
-
no, the question is the f40 e bios mainboard hdx9280el support a processor x9000 ES Q174
The are the bios mod or mod hardware for install es? -
It will be working fine with F40.E bios if you are going to install that version. You don't need any hardware or BIOS modification to be able to use that processor in HDX laptop. The sad think is that in HDX extreme processors are not overclockable
-
Does anyone have any memory issues with Vista? I noticed when I install a large game, i.e. CNC 3 and UT3, my memory usage grows and grows as the program installs and then maxes out. At this point Vista is overloaded since it needs memory to run and things just lags so badly.
Once the program finish installing, the memory use is still maxed out. Putting the HDX to sleep or reset fixes the problem.
What gives??Attached Files:

it will be o be secure x9000 es q174?
-
What do you mean by to be secure?
-
that this cpu work fine. i don't dissamble the hdx and when i install this cpu, the hdx not work
i would to be secure that work -
Yes, I know what a refurbished unit is, my question (which may have been poorly worded) was where these sellers get the refurbs, since HP doesn't offer them through their outlet, and the sellers seem to be "small-time" outfits.
Just curious... -
You will be fine
To be on the safe side, what is your current BIOS version?
-
F40 E i have this bios
-
Have you flashed your laptop already to F40 bios or you have a bios on disk and you can flash it?
-
I have flashed my mainboard hdx with new bios f 40 e and i would says if when i install a x9000 es q174 run it
-
Actually, if you'll click through to the item, you will see that all of those offered on Amazon are refurbished units.
-
You are quite right. They certainly make you dig to ascertain that. Caveat emptor.
-
Would using a program like CrystalCPUID or RmClock allow the x9000 (Extreme Edition Processor) in an HP HDX20 (Dragon) to overclock by changing the multiplier?
I would love to be able to take advantage of the unlocked multiplier in the x9000 and overclock my Dragon!
I'm unsure if not being able to change the multiplier in the bios would have any effect on changing it in CrystalCPUID.
Man, wouldn't it be usefull if we could just overl**** this **** thing?
Can someone one experiment? -
Yes it will be working fine
-
That is the whole problem. Extreme Edition processors are not overclockable in HDX laptop
-
Could you please send me hi resolution pictures of Avermedia A312 HDTV card? I need it to identify what components were used to create that card and then to start development of Linux driver for it. If you have A301 or A321 card you can send the pictures too. I will add them to LinuxTV wiki. A301 card is supported by Avermedia linux driver available for A828 card. Interesting thing is that there is one windows driver for all three cards and there are small differences in inf files between 301 and 312 card.
-
There is an easy way around this with HP. Tell them of your problem and then tell them that you are going to send your laptop back sans hard drives and that they should ship you the new one the same way. They will generally accommodate that.
-
Your extensive explanation is much appreciated.
1. My HDX is hooked up to my 7.1 Audio / Video receiver via VDP HDMI port.
2. My Receiver is then hooked up to the HDTV via HDMI.
3. My HDX hardware current setting is as per your posting page 409, posting # 4089.
4. My receiver audio is set to "Auto Detect"
I run different scenarios and in all case, I have stereo sound only when playing BluRay disc using QP.
Scenario 1:
- QP Audio output is set to "Analogue 2 speaker".
- QP Audio mode is set to "Dolby surround" (there is only two mode Stereo or Dolby surround)
- Play Bluray disc, I only have Stereo.
- Play DVD disc, I also have Stereo.
Scenario 2:
- QP Audio output is set to "SPIDF".
- QP Audio mode is what it is i.e "----"
- Play Bluray disc, I only have Stereo.
- Play DVD disc, I have 5.1 DTS.
Scenario 3:
- Use WinDVD 9 and AnyDVD 6.4.7.9 instead of QP.
- Play Bluray disc, I have 5.1 DTS but the movie is jerky and unwatchable.
- Play DVD (without AnyDVD), I have 5.1 DTS. The movie is fine with no jerkiness.
What conclusion can be drawn from the above scenarios? Does my hardware set up properly to output DTS sound or not? If it does, why do I have Stereo sound only when playing Bluray using QP? -
I want tyo be secure that x9000 es q174 work great before dissassemble hdx
why 8800m gts into nibitor 4.6 is not recognized? -
Will be working great
I have an impression that nibitor is for desktop gpus only but even if you will be successfull with changes you need to flash it back and here is the problem that I don't know how to do it as GPU bios is a part of Main laptop bios as far as I'm aware

this is about running windows 7 on the hdx 4949nr
I have it installed - 6801 , activated (using an old key on the internet and using automated phone support, it worked, cant belive it)
The thing is AWESOME! i can't belive how stable and great it works in pre-beta! My Only issue, after i found the program BluBadge_reV2_x64 to get the SUperbar working, is the sound. after the fresh install, the sound worked perfect. then windows update updated the sound driver and it now makes an electric sound whenever sound is played. Its find if i mute it, but i've installed both drivers from the hp websight and neither worked. the both ended with the same result.
Can anyone provide a list of all the sound drivers we have found for the HDX to date this far in a single post? That would be awesome, as i wounldnt have to page through 400 posts.
video preformance. Looks really good. I'm using Forceware 180.44 WHQL Candidate driver from laptop2go. i have blueray, but no blueray movie to test. go figure.
I only have one device that it unknown, and i honestly don't know what it is. Everything is working, even the fingerprint driver. Oh, I cannot get the eject or quicklaunch buttons to work, ah well, i rarely use them.
well, now you know, if you were wanting to try windows 7 prebeta 6801 i'm running it as my primary and only os. and it works great (per few minor issues i'll figure out soon)
Let me know if you have other questions!
Wolfskin -
I have a couple of questions that are probably answered somewhere in this vast thread but I've only been through 200 pages of it thus far. First question concerns the two resolutions available. For a non-gamer, which of the two available resolutions would be a best fit? I work primarily with large text-based documents often displayed side-by-side. I also work a lot with flow charts and other kinds of diagrams (line drawings) with a good dose of photo editing. Would the WUXGA screen have too high a dpi for someone who considers 1920x1200/1080 resolution excessive for 17" and 18.4" screens?
Second question concerns purchasing. Since this laptop has been discontinued it's becoming increasingly difficult to locate one even second hand. The only units I found at online vendors are either exhorbitantly priced for the specs or refurbished units. There are some listed at classified sites but the 'sellers' request personal information to be submitted via email first so that a transaction can proceed through eBay for the 'protection of both partes,' or so they claim. Funny how these ads are always listed as local yet the sellers are overseas.
How does one go about finding a HDX? Are the refurbished units worth taking a chance on? I've been perusing through eBay listings and other auction sites like Ubid, but they're getting scarce. At Ubid surprisingly, there were actually many new HDX laptops being auctioned this past week, but there's no shipping out of the US. I even have a thread at the FS forum on this site for over a week with no reponses. I noticed that there are several members here who have more than one HDX. Well, if there's anyone who finds themselves in a surplus situation, let me know. -
help! i suddenly lost control of my blue touch buttons. i used to be able to eject my DVD drive, turn off the button lights, tinker with the volume/trebel/bass controls and turn wifi on and off, among others, but now nothing happens when i touch the buttons
how do i restore this?
EDIT (UPDATE):
i searched the forum discussions and tried system restore (about 4 times), update/reinstall drivers from HP website and repair of HP quick launch from the "add/remove program" in the control panel and in the end, it was 2.0's advise that worked, i.e. turn off the dragon, unplug, remove battery, press down power button for 30 seconds, plug again and turn the unit on. now, the buttons work fine
@2.0 -- i am curious why your recommended solution worked. what was wrong, or went wrong, in the first place and how did the procedure you stated help? -
can someone help me out.. i want to make some recovery discs just incase, i've had the computer for a few months now, HDX 9200 i believe, fully loaded... when i try to make the discs it says that my computer does not have a drive capable of creating cd's or dvd's.. which is ridiculous, i have the blu ray superdrive and i burn discs all the time. Is there a service i may have disabled to cause this, any ideas?
-
I don't have the Blu-Ray drive, just the LightScribe DVD. But I ran into the exact same error. I called HP and they sent me a pressed and silk-screened set. Just call them up, and they'll send them to you. I had mine in three days of my phone call.
Also, to those with the power adapter brick making buzzing/humming sounds -- again, CALL HP!!! They sent me a new one at no charge. Again, I had it about three or four days after that phone call.
I never got an answer to why my HDX couldn't create my rescue disks. I burn off of my DVD drive ALL THE TIME!! Yet, HP's "wonderful" software just couldn't figure out that I had a drive capable of burning disks. -
Tried this, wouldent go for it because it was a complete swap out.
-
Bump.
I'm still loving my Dragon. Its truly a great machine. -
Hey just wanted to give a shout out to all my HDX Dragon peeps and let you all know that Fallout 3 on this beast is an experience that must be had. Not only does it run buttery smooth on Ultra setting, but it just looks fantastic on this beautiful monitor. If anyone is into single player RPG's, this one is freaking awesome. Man, it's such a pleasure to have a gaming rig that is portable. Yes, I said portable to all you weaklings out there who strain to lift it up.
BTW, I just tried The Witcher and it blows - terrible voice acting and unrefined graphics engine...to bad I can't take it back. Anyone who really likes this games has to be a geek IMHO. -
Beware!!! These "classified" ads are a scam! I have notified many sites to take them down, but they will always pop up again somewhere else. Do NOT send any personal information to any of these "sellers" -- and yse the "report fraud" option on sites where you see them.
-
Thanks, MatsudaMan! I will look forward to this, sorry to hear about The Witcher, though, I was hoping it would be good. I am big on single-player RPG's, myself. Not really into multiplayer.
Cheers! -
Just wondering if it's possible to swap out the ATI radeon graphics card with something else? I bought the HDX a few months after it came out so the Nvidia wasn't really an option back then.
Also I have to send it in to fix my touchpad click button, the bezel and the High resolution screen. I know the products discontinued so won't the parts be scarce? They assure me they'll have the parts but somehow i'm sceptical... -
Hi,
Vista update shows me
what is this? Is that the normal driver?
The newest driver that shows up on the Silicon Image site if you look for Vista 64bit is v1.5.18.8.
The other thing i saw here is that there is a new Bios. But here at
forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=69401
somebody says
Also my eject button is not working. I use the Quick Launch Buttons 6.40 B - SP38171.
Edit:
One more thing is that the Wireless Assistant (v3.00 H) needs really long on startup (until i see him in the tray). It slows everything down. -
Finally I have found a silicone keyboard cover for the HDX Dragon!
Now the keyboard key feedback is perfect. Less noise and nooo slip anymore.
Did I mention it was only $5?

Did you play the unpatched original, or the enhanced edition? Cuz that doesn't sound right to me.
-
Brand? Model? Link?
-
Concerning the lameness of The Witcher:
I got the new "enhanced" version and updated with new patch. I'm sure there are people out there that really like this game, and I don't want to hate on it too much so as not to offend. That said, I just think that the style is a little dated and kind of (for lack of better word) uncool. The whole premise of the story is just kind of geeky IMO - I just could not get into it...didn't draw me in. Also, the"mature" theme ironically kind of comes off as adolescent. Also, the animation of the main character is laughably bad - how he holds his sword looks so lame and awkward....what were those programmers in Poland thinking? sheeeesh. -
No it is not possible to replace ATI with Nvidia card in that laptop
-
Is anyone out there using a USB type video capture device to transfer tapes to disc? I have an EasyCap model that is supposed to work with Vistax64 but can't get it to work on my Dragon. Any suggestions or recomendations or other orking solutions? Thanks Much....David
-
Please do let us know where you got it from? Thanks. -
To wwoods or anyone that's carried on:
Sorry, do you carry it on to the plane in the hard carry roller case or the targus back pack? I'm concerned about the size of the hard case being to big to be allowed as a carry on. There's no way I want to send it in baggage (even in the hard case). Thanks! -
For those interested with the silicone skin cover - I bought mine from EBay - http://shop.ebay.com.au/merchant/itstation08. I found out from a user in this forum (Scott_T) that has a HDX and a DV9000 - turns out both have identical keyboards! I cannot ask fo a better deal - USD 5 incl shipping from China
-
BTW - to those looking for a backpack - the Asus G2 gaming backpack DOES fit the HDX but you need a little bit of push when closing the zipper at the top. Now the annoying part is trying to source one from Australia @)(#$()@#$#()$@
-
This the one? It improves typing feel?
My reason is to stop potential scratching of the screen by the keyboard.

The best capture device I've found for both desktop and notebook is Creative's Video Blaster - you can capture video from just about anything except an HDMI connection, the only thing it doesn't have, and I'm sure that's due to HDCP.
It has input/output connections for just about everything else - Firewire, USB, Component, Composite, S-Video, etc. Audio is the same, as it also has optical ports, SPDIF, RCA in/out, etc. There isn't much you can't do with it, and so far I haven't had any problem using it with my HDX.
You can check it out at this link: http://tinyurl.com/5spkef
It runs about $199, but you can get it for a little less if you check around. -
The one HP sells on their sight, Targus roller backpack
