quick question guys/girls...how is the battery life on the hdx16 with the 6 cell battery? This will let me know if im going to get the hdx16 or dv7t. thanks!

It's not GREAT, but if you mess with power settings a bit, you can get a bit over an hour and a half. I imagine that a 12-cell battery would be available soon. Regardless, the HDX is an amazing laptop.

Who is in charge of the quality control on Hp? I thing nobody. I had to return two dv7t because quality problems, they have to know that they are having problems with this issue, but how we can let them know?
If we but a computer is because we need it, I’ve been waiting for a computer almost 2 months since I but the first dv7t because the return time. After all those problems I decide do not goes with the dv7t anymore and I waiting an hdx16 but after I read all the problems here I afraid about the hdx 16 too.
I really disappointed about you Hp. -
Place my order last night - Oct 27 build date.
Upgraded to 2.8cpu, 1080 display, and the two freebees.
Curious about the Ram upgrade you all have been talking about. Anybody know off hand what the FSB clock speed is set to from HP with this chip and is it adjustable to take advantage of potentially faster RAM?
Also curious if anybody has installed an SSD, and if so, what component was chosen. I stuck with the base 250gb HDD and was thinking of using an SSD for OS and APP's. Feasable/reasonable config? -
@juanvallecillo
Can you give some details on your dv7t?? what was wrong with it? Some issues may be design issues which will not be fixed regardless of how many times you return it. For example; HDX16t needs another screw on the hdd cover, but its not there, and there probably wont be one until they get complaints about it and have a fixed design on the next batch.
@Capella1
Congrats, my order was placed on 13th, and showing Oct 31st build date. Weird.
If performance is something you want from SSDs, I would honestly hold off on SSD. The bad SSDs like JMicron chipset based SSDs are getting cheaper, and the good ones from like MemoRight are still pretty expensive.
If you want more battery life, then just get a cheap one from newegg. -
If you think the incongruity in first come first serve is wacked, they went ahead and shipped the accessories and service plan today - useless without the laptop itself.
Thanks for the advise on SSD's. More than willing to wait for the technology to mature. -
Anyone here have any good recommendations on what is a good notebook case for the hdx16t?

Has anyone else had trouble using the coupons for the HDX16t? I tried using 2 of the coupons listed elsewhere on this site with my EPP discount and I kept getting "Coupon Invalid" even though they don't expire until the 20th.
One was the 30% coupon and the other was the 350 coupon (I believe)
I'm not buying yet but I wanted to test the coupons for this very reason: to make sure I did not run into problems. -
-
When I bought mine, I tried the two available coupons listed elsewhere on this site (supposed to be vali through the 20th of this month). The 15% off coupon was declined as not applicable. The $550 off one was accepted but would not stack with the 200 instant savings or the other free offers. It returned a message stating that it calculated the best deal and granted a total instant discount of 300 off plus the free upgrades and shipping. In other words, the 550 off coupon netted me only an additional 100 off the deal from that already listed on the HP site.
-
You can't use a coupon, unless it's stackable, with EPP discount. The 30% coupon excludes the HDX16t, HDX18t, and the dv3500t i believe. All the new ones.
The 550$ coupon doesn't stack w/ rebates, it really just saves you 300$. it's still savings though.
Not sure why the 15$ is not working. -
I just bought this computer for my girlfriend for Christmas (she won't know until then
) and I'm pretty stoked, even though it won't be assembled 'til almost November. She's a big fan of HP and wanted something with a really high-res screen for web browsing, a decent processor for Photoshop and a decent GPU for Oblivion. I got the free upgrades (Bluray, 3GB RAM), then bumped the CPU to P8400 and the screen to 1080p. I used coupon code SV3204 to take 15% off and wound up paying only $1,170. That's pretty great value for all the specs.
I'm going to see if I can negotiate a Vista refund when it gets here to save even more. I'm also going to see if I can dual-boot it with OSX86 for the sheer novelty of it. -
I also tried the osx86, just briefly, it gave me the white screen with black overlay with text stating re-start. I had just gotten my laptop that day, so i really didn't look into it much. It would be really nice to have the osx86 on this notebook. my macbook can take some rest then. -
Ok thanks everyone for the info on the coupons.
-
****! I was just reading the thread and found out about the live.com cashback. Does anyone think that'd work with the SV3204? Would it be feasible to cancel my order, get the money back and then order it again?
-
can someone with a blue ray drive can say if its also has hp lightscribe (the label burner)?
-
Nope, no lightscribe with BLURAY...

What brand DDR2 800 PC2 6400 RAM do you guys recommend, OCZ, G.Skill, other?
Also, is this stuff technicaly better/faster than the stock RAMthat comes in the HX16? -
Sorry for another question guys but does anyone know if the HDX 16tt supports dual hard drives?
-
-
-
-
-
Just a question: is it possible to OC the GPU on this notebook? I heard somewhere that HP blocks this in the BIOS usually.

Anyone have the 1080p display for this notebook, do you find everything to be too small on the screen or are you happy with it?
Also, is the flush-display glass or plastic? -
As far as the materrial, it seems to be plastic.
-Scotty -
I know my DV9700t is super bright at just about 50% on the brightness dial. Whereas my old Compaq needs the brightness up to 100% in daylight conditions and about 80% at night. -
I thought that too...but it doesnt seem as bright as other dual lamp screens out there....also it may be that the plastic in front of it maybe dampens it a little
-
can someone please put up a video review/unboxing of the device. i feel their is not enough videos of this on the internet. thanks
-
Hi everybody. I just got this laptop and it is amazing! My last HP notebook isn't even a year old yet, (DV6500T) but I've been wanting a more powerful one and here it is at last!
Anyways, I was removing allot of the bloatware on my my HDX16T and I must have removed something that controlled the bass/treble controls because now when I press them, nothing happens. Does anybody know what software from HP controls these specificially?
Thanks, -
If no one has the answer, you might be better off re-installing one at a time until you see what restores it.
-
-
-
I would have expected something labeled "UltraBright", and having dual lamps, to be at least "VeryBright" and not "NormalBright". -
-
Well, I got my laptop, but it came with 32bit Vista Home.. I wanted to upgrade it to 64 bit ultimate..
I didn't realize that the laptop had its own internal backup, like 99% of the other PC's I have ever used I thought it came w/ recovery discs. Long behold after I format both drives (the main and the recovery) I figure out that my laptop came with a stupid piece of paper that had a picture of a disk rofl.
Software on this laptop is glitched, especially the fingerprint reader. I have the laptop working with networking drivers for everything, the only thing I can't get working under Vista 64 ultimate is the fingerprint reader.
Does anyone have a working driver for this thing? I could really use it if you do. I managed to find one on HP's site, but it glitches out on me. -
Here you go... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-65508-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2100&product=3769207
Fingerprint sensor driver is here, on HDX16T page of the official HP site -
All the lower resolutions were too fuzzy to use, and the large dpi setting only helped a tiny bit.
On another note, the rest of the computer seems incredible. If I have to send it back I'm definitely ordering another HDX. -
Hi all, I'm new here. I've just joined after reading all your posts 100%. As of the moment, I am still undecided which laptop to get and which brand. Though I am leaning towards getting the HDX 16 of HP due to its price
erformance ratio compared to the other brands.
My main dilemma is that I live in the Philippines and I am not sure if the HP Official Store can ship outside the US. I believe the HP Philippines website is not capable of offering customizations in laptop purchases. You can't select which components goes in your laptop. Basically, you can only order an already pre-configured one. Also, they still don't have the HDX series here.
Questions:
1. Can I order from the HP Official Store then let it be shipped here? (I've read that your shipments pass by China. So maybe they can also ship in my country which is also in Asia.)
2. What will happen to the 21-day return policy?
3. Can I use rebates, coupons, cashbacks, etc? Or are they only for Americans?
Note: I could really use rebates, coupons, cashbacks, and whatever else there is out there because our economy is very bad as well as our wages. The money I'm going to spend is really hard-earned out of blood and perspiration and I don't want it go to waste. This will be the 1st laptop I'd be getting and will be using for the rest of my life (exagerrated) because it will not be that easy for me to purchase another for I am not wealthy. -
To be honest, you can get DV5T and be satisfied with it. It is pretty much the same notebook. Yes the design and few options here and there, but ultimately same notebook with a bit premium features.
I know not really wat you wanted to hear, but I've got cousins in New Zealand and India and they have asked me to ship them the laptop. -
@xtreme571
Well, I also got relatives in the US. I was just thinking I could save them the hassle of bringing me the laptop. Maybe I'll just register and place their shipping address instead. Then I'll order online. -
can someone please post a list of the REALLY unnesecery programs that comes with the notebook?
-
I don't have an HDX 16 yet but I think those are the programs which doesn't have any hardware related to it.
-
Well,
Just received Email that mine has shipped today from Shanghai and is in the hands of FedEx, 3 days earlier than originally projected.
- HP Pavilion HDX16t Entertainment Notebook
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.80GHz)
- 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
- FREE Upgrade to 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

- HP Imprint Finish (Fluid) + Microphone + Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
- Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth

Notice I did not order the TV tuner from HP. I'm actually interested in this feature though. Anybody recommend an aftermarket solution?
Also plan to try an SSD next year when the latest releases get some time on them - will then place the stock drive on my home wireless network for archive/backup.
I'm gettin jazzed! Hope it all works well.
