    hi,

I'd like to tell you about my experience with HP HDX16; first of all, it's a very convenient laptop for standard usage (MS office, internet) and a great pleasure to watch BR on it.

I used to replace the cpu that came with mine (T8400) as in France, we have no choice than buying a ready to ship laptop!

so following the service guide is quite easy and removing parts should be done precautionously, as the wires between the mainboard and those components are very thin (like hair) and very FRAGILE ! I unfornately experienced that point when removing the bluetooth wire from the mainboard: I cut the negative wire and so forth can't make the module work again!

so by any chance, do you know how I could manage to order a spare part to replace that wire : I do not want to buy the BTH module itself , but only the wire !

nb: I can confirm to all that wonder the graphic card (the chip) is soldered to the mainboard and then can't be upgraded !

Hi Paul, just make sure you log in and click on the EPP (Employee Purchase Program) link so you can see the reduced prices.

Thanks, jandrade. On just the computer, DX16 or Dx18, I get $127 additional employee discount, beyond the $200 instant rebates, and free upgrades. Not huge, but I'll take it. Maybe more employee discount when I add a docking station, external drive, 22" display. Haven't ordered yet.

If you can wait a little bit, you can usually find a 30% off coupon or similar coupons that make it cheaper than the EPP or APP Price. Anytime there have been coupons available, which is almost always, the EPP discount has been worthless on laptops or desktops.

I'm new to the forum. I just ordered an HP HDX16 and am expecting it in the mail within a week or two.
I had a question that you guys might be able to answer. I have a DELL 2408 with a native resolution of 1920x1200. I have read that the HDX16 can only pipe 1920x1080. Is this true, or can I get the native resolution with HDMI? If not, will it work with a HDMI/DVI converter? OR do I have to resort to using VGA? Or is there no way that I can experience the full 1200 pixels in width?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up, Nehalem. I'll stay tuned. I want to wait a week or two anyway. I just now registered at the notebookreview hp coupon page.

I'm pretty sure you would be able to get your native resolution over HDMI. You can change the resolution of the HDMI output in the nVidia Control Panel.

I use my Griffin iPod earbuds, they are OK, but nothing close to the Bose set I tried at cousins. Bose set is about 90 dollars or so. Sennheiser CX300 are a pretty nice set for pretty decent price. They are sometimes available for 20bux at amazon, just wait and see.

    xtreme571,
I notice that your HDX16t has a T9400 2.53GHZ. I ordered it with a P8600, and am starting to second guess my decision to the point that I am thinking about cancelling my order and reordering with the T9400, since the price dropped the day after I ordered it due to the cyber sale.

Do you think I should go ahead and cancel the order if it's still possible, and reorder with the T9400?

Here's what happened: I ordered it early Sunday morning, and on Monday (yesterday), the overall price went down $50 on the notebook and they threw in 4GB of RAM for free (instead of 3GB when I bought it the day before). So i called HP and they refunded me $100, which I can use towards purchasing the 4GB.

However, I just realized that I could have also used the $30 coupon. Now I am thinking about cancelling my order entirely (if it's not too late), and reordering with 4GB of ram and the 2.53 instead of the 2.4 p8600. It would cost me only $20 than my original order.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks,
    aoc05

could you possibly enlighten us with your various reasons? you made me a little nervous there since im getting a laptop with the same exact specs as yours in 3 weeks and youre saying its not good enough. maybe youre too demanding? why always blame it on the laptop...

I would say go for it. The P series is suppose to be "Less power consuming" thus "giving you longer battery life". From what I've heard from various users, there really isn't a difference. If you benchmark, maybe you will get 10 more minutes from the battery, maybe.

I would have gotten t9600, but it was like 200dollars more than the t9400, and not "200 dollars" faster, so I went with the t9400. I've always went with a choice that would make sense to me. The top of the line is always a bit too expensive for its perks.

they may have already begun production on your laptop, and most likely would not be able to cancel the order. you can go ahead and place another order, and just return the first one. just make sure you have enough balance on your card.

    well to start off.

    1. where i got it which was exactly when they said it would arrive, i opened it up, inspected it as should and to my surprise i though everything was ok. well its wasnt. the back cover where you take to remove the memory and HDD had MANY gouges on it, like someone was asleep trying to find a hole to unscrew the bolts in the back, not a big issue but it is for me, it tells me how well its built...

    2. EVERYWHERE the laptop parts connect to each other, like the entire assembly had white glue marks in between where everything was glued together. i almost died, i payed 1300$ for a laptop that had glue traces everywhere in between the panels when it was put together, if they used black glue it would be a difference story, but white glue on a very dark colored laptop...you do the rest

    3. the performance i expected was, so to day not there...even after i put the new memory in. vista lagged every time you minimize the pages, maybe it was the latest modified driver but who knows.

also found other scratches around the silver trims of the laptop. just all in all i didnt want to keep it, i though it was getting much more for what i paid and expected it to be perfect which i didnt get :(

hopefully you guys like your laptops, but i think i will look elsewhere if i buy a laptop in the future.

    @Goshax

I can understand your frustration. My first laptop was a bit of the same thing. It had glue marks all over the place. Like it wasn't just where it should be, but also on the lid, screen. Lots of fingerprints.

DVD drive made continuous clicking sound during the boot process.

I cleaned it all up, and then thought, I paid for them to have it in NEW condition, and then just ignored it all. Filed a case with the tech support, and the guy gave me 2 options. Exchange or Send it in for Repair. There is now way I'm sending a week old laptop for repair, opted for the exchange. I'm glad I got it exchanged. Happy with the one I got.

I had to wait 2 months to get a fully working laptop in NEW condition from the date I placed the order. But HP took care of everything and I give props to them for it.

That experience seriously concerns me. I dont live in the states so I ordered the laptop via shipitAPO so returning it will be a big problem. If i got a laptop with glue marks I would definetley want to return it. I don't understand these random bad experiences I mean doesn't HP run a quality check on the laptop before they ship it out? or are random glue marks suddently ok since you only paid 1300 dollars and in my case i paid 1700!! i really hope that i wont have this experience when i get my hdx16...

Great forum everyone. Unfortunately, I didn't find it until now after I placed my order. I ordered the 1366x768 display. Is there a big difference with the 1080p I see most people have? I'm not good with small fonts, so I thought it wouldn't make a difference. Does it affect movies on Blu-ray much? Thanks for the help!

Well blu-ray movies are encoded in 1080p format, so the video quality would be a bit less, but the screen size and viewing distance is too small for you to notice anything if at all.

There is a big difference as far as the picture quality, but for daily use, you wouldn't mind it; as you stated you are not good with small fonts.

So I ordered my HDX 16t on black friday with the 40% off live.com rebate, and it was supposed to be built on the 9th of Dec, but I guess they sped up production or something and it was built and shipped today.

so I will have information for all of you about how it runs and if it works well :)

(of course it will work well, what am I thinking...)

the reason I got it was because I am a computer science major who plays some games. I have a basement full of desktop gaming computers and computer parts so I built a short-lived set up with a E6400 proc (2Mb Cache, 2.13 GHz, 1066 FSB), on a MB from intel with 4500HD graphics and 4 gigs of ddr2-667 ram, and tried to play a game on it, and it didn't work well at all. so I needed the graphics card, and hopefully it will work well. plus I liked the free blu-ray player, that was the kicker between the dv5t and the hdx16t.

I hope it runs as smooth as my desktop for when I am away at college, and hopefully it will perform the programs I need it to... ... I can always upgrade the proc right? and also is the memory from HP 800mhz? or 667? if its 667 ill need to upgrade em... which would suck, but it happens.

hopefully ill be able to help out with people asking questions, maybe even post a review of the hdx 16 instead of having everyone rely on the hdx 18...

Hi xtreme571! Thanks for the reply! I think I'll keep what I ordered since I got in on the 40% cashback offer. I won't be able to notice on the 16" screen, but I can still HDMI it out to a 1080p TV right? I should be getting it in the next week so I'll be able to see for myself, but it's hard not to second guess after the order! Thanks again for the info!

40% off, must have gotten for dirt cheap lol

Yes it can still output 1080P to a TV supporting that resolution. Video cards are not limited just because their screens are.

Tell me bout it, I ordered bunch of stuff from ebay, and from that they owe me like 60 dollars. The orders go as back as August 2008. It is not even showing up in "Pending" section. I've sent them emails, filled the form online, but no response at all. At last, I filed a complaint with BBB, and lets see what happens now.

They also owe me from other purchases on the internet, like Beach Camera.

I don't know guys what you are talking about, but MS has honored all my cashbacks so far and even now I am waiting for some pending cashbacks which are going to be available in the end of December. And those were good by amount - about $1300 in total.

POH, you got a great price on that HDX 16t. I couldn't touch it now for much less then $1750 and that's without tax I would have to pay in Florida. However, rumor is that HP will be releasing an available BD write for the HDX line by the end of this month. So, I am waiting a bit as I would like that if it is available.

    Hi HDX16 Owners

I bought a DV5 a couple days back and have been happy with it for the most part except for a gitchy volume control and the heat it generates while gaming (worried about the longevity of the machine and getting burns from the palmrest)

I've been thinking about upgrading to a HDX16 and wanted to ask you guys if it displays any of the same problems. I am also interested in the brighter screen it comes with. Unfortunately in Canada there is basically no way to customize so I'm stuck with P8400, no Blue-Ray and a 1366x768 screen. Please help me decide if this is worth the extra $300 for the upgrade. Thanks

Does anyone know what the HDMI output is on this notebook? Is it 1080p/24 or 1080/60. I was trying to hook it up to my Panny projector which is native 720p, but can output to 1024p/24. When I plug it in, I look signal on the projector - so I just wanted to confirm with you guys! Thanks in advance!

OH, and another question. For those with Blu-ray DVD - how does the picture quality compare to standalone BR Blu-ray players? I saw a standalone Magnavox BR player at Sam's for 189 and it had a great picture. No DolbyHD support, but great picture.

Congrats POH! I think your comp must be shipping on the same truck as my comp! Mine just left Indianapolis too! I still want to get my live cashback posted pending before accepting delivery though. Live isn't getting back to me in a timely manner. I feel bad for HP that things went down so badly for so many buyers.

DellRipoff: Supposedly you buy things from select sites by finding the sites through Microsoft's search engine live.com and then you get a credit that you can claim after 60 days when you finish your purchase. This HP was my first experience with it and it's been pretty nightmarish, but it might be a singularity because of the heavy traffic that day. Still, they haven't responded with anything more than an automated message delaying response and it's been more than a week. I've mailed 4 times! My HDX in China will be made and shipped across the world before someone at Live.com can e-mail me? That's kind of ridiculous.

the savings are mostly relative to how the prices for the components work out (since they are overpriced most of the time to make you feel good about the discount). I got the 30% instant discount which was about $500, paid about $1450 for the 9400 processor, bue ray, 400gb drive, 3gb ram, both batteries, the better lcd and the internal tuner.

speaking of the tv tuner, seems like reception is a bit weak, maybe just my area? anyone had great success with picking up HD over the air?

Since that was friday, and the shipment most likely missed the connection to the next stop. It will most likely be sent out from there today evening.

I had this happen with a book i ordered from amazon. I upgraded to 2 day shipping, and got it in like 5 days. If they had shipped via USPS, I would have had it that saturday instead of the following Monday. Weird how this happen.

That's weird. Mine arrived at Indianapolis at 11 pm and has been in transit since 2:15AM on Dec 6.

(I work at UPS and we do the same things that FedEx does.)
The reason why it says that is when someone loads the truck they scan the package label, and it sends that information that it was scanned and what truck its in and where that truck is heading to the main computer.

it works like this: truck pulls up, boxes go on a conveyor belt with a mounted scanner above the packages to scan them on there way in, the package gets sorted, then it goes to the loading trucks then it gets scanned and loaded. rinse and repeat with each hub it goes to.

Mine arrives tomorrow, I can't wait.

Does the HDX16 have a LED backlit screen or a normal bulbed one?
