that's lucky!
where did you get to see them all side by side?
i couldn't find a HDX anywhere...not Micro Center, costco, bjs, sam's club, circuit city, best buy, etc.
bought mine blind!

-
When I went to best buy last week, one was on display. No such luck this week.
-
ElBlufer, how is your order status going? I am holding at "order dropped to factory"......
-
Same here Kramer...I'm not really expecting anything to change until the estimated ship date of the 9th. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised!
-
No matter though, you'll be pleasantly surprised when yours gets there! -
I googled around sound issue and found that hdx 18 series has this problem too, but fortunately for them there's a solution, opening subwoofer and putting a shock absorber, like a soft cloth in it. but unfortunately for us there's no way too open subwoofer lid in hdx 16. I think i'll get my notebook opened at a technical center asking them to put something in it -_-, i wonder why they didn't think of making it less rigid and more restrained at the first place!
-
Can someone who has the Blu-ray drive in there notebook please go into 'device manager' and get the model number of the drive?
Thanks! -
Hello, 1st post!
I just received my new HDX 16 last week (320GB 7200, 4 G ram, 2.53 Ghz, etc...). So far everything has been great with 2 problems. One is that the mute button, while it still works, is stuck as orange. Additionally, The Bass/Treble slider does not work. Ive tried re-installing the programs through the HP thing, but so far nothing has worked. Any ideas?
Thanks! -
I would call HP, you may need to get the unit exchanged. Also, try reinstalling the drivers for the board, I think the link may be a couple pages back in this thread.
EDIT: Kramer, my order status changed to "order in production"...maybe mine is getting shipped early?
EDIT2: for Bird, found these model numbers in the product manual online:
Blu-ray ROM DVD±RW SuperMulti DL Drive with LightScribe 498074-001
Blu-ray ROM DVD±RW SuperMulti DL Drive 498075-001
Blu-ray ROM DVD±RW Drive 498073-001 -
Thanks for the reply, but those are HP part numbers. I want the model number that shows in device manager.

Randomblur, congrats on your new setup. I was unable to look at or use the hdx series in person before I ordered which is against all religion when i buy something, but took the praise from the owners here and the 21 day return policy as comfort. Hope they ship sooner and for Elblufer I am still in order dropped..... nice to see you are moving thru quickly.
-
I'm sure u'll like the laptop, as almost every1 has loved theirs once they got their hands on it. -
I am almost positive I will to, but there is something about seeing it in person and saying oh yeah I'm getting this! and going to a forum for feedback and some pictures and videos to do research and then buy one. And Elblufer i am in production
-
Glad to hear it kramer! Now, let's just hope it doesn't take more than a few days to make a laptop...
-
Hello all,
When I plug my HDMI into my tv, I cant get the audio to work... anyone else have this problem or have any tips on how to set up the HDMI audio? -
check your sound controls in the control panel, there may be something that is off or turned down in the settings
-
Hey! Just registered to say i received my HP HDX16t 2 days ago!
Specs:
- Genuine Windows Vista Home (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz)
- 4.00 GB RAM
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
- 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Overall, this is a great laptop. Looks amazing and performs well. I tend to game a lot and this laptop seems to get the job done. I play World of Warcraft if your wondering and i top 60-70fps in Dalaran during peak hours with the settings turned all the way up. I know WoW doesn't take much, i have yet to install my other games, ill post an update on those as soon as i get to installing 'em. Ill be posting temps during game play as well in time.
People wonder why i didn't buy a desktop if i game as much as i do. I just need the mobility right now, having a laptop for school helps tremendously, and well it makes LAN parties easier!
I do have one flaw however. The base of my monitor seems to get very hot, right under the little HP logo on the hinge. I have no clue whats going on. It occurs even after 5min of just starting up my laptop and using it. Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe something to do with my fans, maybe i need to up them, if i can? (I'm not exactly a computer genius, this is my first laptop as well so I'm not exactly sure what to do) Im looking into buying a laptop cooling pad for when I'm home.
Thanks! -
Congrats on your new laptop Revast. How long did it take from ordering to your house? I can't help you with the heat problem but there are alot people here that can point you in the right direction. Try doing a search within the forum. Welcome to the forum also......
-
Ordered on the 18th, shipped on the 25th, received on the 29th, So i guess i got it more then 2 days ago. Shipped from Shanghai CH to US Miami FL.
-
How hot do you mean? Uncomfortably hot? Smoking hot?
I have a HDX 9000 the big 20 inch laptop and I noticed some heat under that laptops screen around the logo too. I posted some pics in the regular HDX Owners forum and I even posted some temps, too. I work for the fire department and I used a Thermal Imager to take some pics and some temps of the warmer areas. Most of the posters agreed that they all had some heat in the areas I mentioned. No outrageous temps.
Do an advanced search for Thermal Imager in that forum thread and it should take you to my posts.
When I receive my 16t, I'll take more pics using the imager too.
EDIT: FOund it. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=169232&page=60 -
Hey Asuhoru, i mean uncomfortably hot. It isn't a burn your finger hot, i can keep my hand on it, I'm just worried my precious laptop is going to explode. I'm not over exaggerating about this either, it does reach unnatural temps and I'm afraid there will be damage over time (cracking and such).
Here is a pic, i circled the areas where the heat accumulates (best i can do atm).
http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/2921/7010hdxmediabuttonsvr1.jpg
Can anyone recommend a good temp monitor to record temps in that area (if possible).
I remember it getting this hot the moment i turned on my laptop for the first time, the fan went on and it cooled off. I have yet to see this happen again, I'm assuming something is going wrong with my fans. -
You may want to call HP and see if they can get you a replacement unit before the 21 day return period ends. Also, how long did your laptop take to go from "order in production" to "shipped"? (if you know/remember).
-
Yeah I agree. Call em asap. -
My HDX16t (which I just got the other day after being replaced because my first one had a really loose power plug) does the exact same thing. I didn't notice it before reading this, but after touching the area you mentioned below the screen, mine is fairly hot as well. I can keep my hand on it no problem, but it's very hot, about as hot as the bottom of the laptop gets while playing a 3d game.
If you contact HP please let us know the results, I think i'll send them an email just to get my complaint registered with them asap and to see what they say.
I'd recommend going the email route, they seem to apply much better technical aptitude in their help over email versus over the phone, where the guys on the phone 99% of the time don't want to talk to you anyway. -
Ok thanks, ill contact them. How much would the restocking fee be, if any?
-
I was wondering if any of you guys have used a cooling pad with your laptops?? Can't imagine it would help much (if any) if the problem is as bad as you claim, but would be interested in knowing what kind of effect one would have......(as I'm a prospective HDX16 buyer myself)
-
I was going to buy a cooling pad, but then I found an undervolting guide on this website, and I think I'll try that first.
-
I spoke with someone from HP, apparently NOTHING can be done. Didn't expect much from them. It appears that is where the video card is, and was told they can get hot. I guess she didn't understand that it is almost to the point where i can not touch it, I'm no expert on this, but I'm pretty sure that's not how its supposed to be. She simply said as long as your computer is not shutting off, its okay. I asked if this heat causes any problems in the future would it be covered on the factory warranty/extended warranty and she said yes.
I have a question for you guys. How would i change my fan settings or anything like that? When i first received my laptop, the temperature under my monitor got this hot, after a few minutes i remember a fan kicking in and the temps going down. The fan wasn't extremely loud but noticeable, i have yet to hear/feel that fan returning. All i get now is VERY light air coming out of the vents constantly, and when i mean light i mean almost nothing. -

The only one i see is this.
"Fixes an issue where the notebook shows the message "Hard Disk Does Not Exist," after finishing the BIOS start-up Hard Disk test."
Don't think i need that, or am i looking at the wrong thing.
I entered my BIOS to see my fan settings, were only two options, enabled and disabled. It was already on enabled. -
So i "Undervolted" my computer today and got amazing results. I managed to kick a good 12c off by reducing 150V's. I also got myself a cheap little cooling pad for myself when I'm home, although the base of my laptops monitor is still pretty hot, its a tad better.
Here's a couple screenshots:

Nice to hears things improved. I'm hoping that I don't have to deal with this on mine since our specs are the same.....

Hey Guys
Ive got a HDX16 laptop too. Fully specced up. 4gbs, 2.8ghz, blu-ray, 1080p , 320gb 7200rpm etc etc and loving it so far but ever since i have had it, have been having issues with resuming from sleep say once every 3-4 resumes. I will shut it by closing the lid, then resume it by opening it, usually i get a sound like usb being unplugged/plugged in (which i believe is the fingerprint reader) then i can log in, but somtimes, i will open the lid, screen will come on with vista welcome screen and it will just freeze there, cannot move cursor, cannot log in. So i have to power down. There is usually nothing in the logs at all, about it which is so frustrating, but i left it last time and had some errors regarding not being able to start the vfsFPService which is related to the FP reader, but im not sure if it is related.
Ive updated all the drivers to the latest version, updated BIOS. Tried dis-abling bluetooth and wifi to see if that was related, but no joy. Ive even done the old 'reseat the RAM' trick, which i thought worked, but allass, again today. . .freezy.
Also running Vista x64
Might to a restore sometime, i do have a few apps installed and drivers for printer/ a HSDPA 3G card, but for a week i had that device out and was just using wireless, yet it still did it, so im thinking its not that.
My rational is if it is still having issues after a factory restore. . then something aint right. . . . . .
Anyone else have similar issues?
J -
So it is fair to say the HDX is loud, in fan terms, just like most of the entertainment laptops by HP?
-
Regarding the heat issue being discussed;
Had my 16 since October with no problems.
The bar under the screen does get warm/hot sometimes, but never really paid attention to it until mentioned here. After checking it for some time now, I notice it is not hot all the time - perhaps hotter when being used on my lap instead of a flat hard surface that allows better ventilation.
I have had my system overclocked for a while now and have never seen the GPU temps exceed 62C.
The fan is generally quiet and seems to cycle appropriately. Be careful not to block the underside fan intake and the exhaust vents. When the underside is blocked, it does heat up and the fan ramps up. I tend to make sure my knee is not blocking the fan when I'm in lazy mode.
Left palm surface feels warmer than the rest of the keyboard deck but has never been uncomfortable to me.
In general, it runs cool and quite and fan seems to do its' job.
No complaints here. -
It's MUCH quieter than my Dell XPS m1530... -
I stumbled upon this HDX16 review, from Trusted Reviews, sorry if it has been posted already.

Well I just got my HDX16 this morning. I haven't really had much of a chance to play with it. Good news it fits my 15.4" laptop case. It's snug but it fits. I ordered 4 gigs of ram and now I will be sending back my dv5t. I think I got a pretty good deal. I ordered 4 gigs of ram

When you get your laptop, how can you tell the difference between:
1. High Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1366x768)
2. High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1366x768)
For that matter also the 1920x1080p display? Is there some kind of utility you can run? -
So i tried connecting my hdx16 to my 42" lcd with the HDMI connector, picture looks great but when playing movies, it flickers a lot. Anybody know whats wrong with it? I tried updating the nvidia driver from HP and its still the same.
-
when HP says tv-tuner with remote control, do they mean a full size one or the little ones that go in the pc-card slot. cuz i don't care about a tv-tuner but those little mini remotes would be cool for watching blu-rays on the big screen.

looks like this...... -
Congratulations Bird333! I hope you love you new HDX16 as much as i do!
Just curious though, Bird333, Flamecaster, and anyone else who owns an HP HDX 16t, is the bar at the base of your laptops monitor warm/hot? Sorry to keep dragging this on, I'm just a little paranoid. -
Mine isn't hot but I am not doing any gaming on it or anything. So far I am really enjoying it. Only thing is the AC jack seems a little loose, but the dv5 I have is like that too. Is everyones AC jack like this?
-
For those that ordered with the 30% off coupon code, watch out for shipped laptops! Mine shipped this morning. Although the FedEx site didn't have a delivery date, after fooling around with their system and trying to ship a fake package, looks like it'll either be here tomorrow or Friday (the original ship date)

Mine is kinda warm, although im not quite sure whats warm or hot for you guys since this is my first laptop. that part and the left side of the touch pad is the warmest for me.
