    Hello,
You may be experiencing a "content protection" symptom where you can only see the Blu Ray content on one screen at a time. Please try to use Function plus F4 ( FN + F4) to change your display. You should then be able to see the BLU RAY DVD on the TV. Here is a document to help you with more info and includes further audio suggestions. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...1837&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

OK, so the new HDX16 is goin pretty good overall. Just got it yesterday. The only thing I've noticed so far as any issue is that I can have it connected to the wireless internet just fine, which is WEP 128 Bit, and then i will put the laptop into sleep or hibernate mode. When I start the laptop back up out of sleep or hibernate, and go into IE, it will give me a "Page Can't Be Displayed" message. Now, the wireless still shows connected with excellent signal. If I disable wireless on the smart buttons, wait a few, then start it again, the internet comes back, and works fine. Does anyone know what could be causing this? My old Sony Vaio laptop worked fine via the same wireless network for several years, so I doubt it's the Linksys router, but who knows. Any ideas is appreciated.

I've got the same issue on my new Dv7t.......tried to get it fixed with an HP tech using an online chat last night.....still no resolved. I sometimes have to disconnect and reconnect several times before I can open a webpage. Once I do it is fine thereafter.......until I start a new session at a later date. I know it's not my router as I tried another.....same issues.

    Anyone can help with this?

I'm not having those wireless issues even when I did use hibernate. What are your hibernate times? How long to shut down into hibernation and come back up out of hibernation. It takes so long on my shiny that I just do a full shutdown and cold start each time now.

Yeah, my Hibernate time is much much longer than it was on the old Sony running XP 32 Bit. Haven't timed it yet, but it's long. Not sure what the hold up is there. I have been shutting down/booting up here today, and that seems to help, but not fully eliminate the issue. I have found sometimes even after bootup, that the wireless doesn't pick up my network immediately.

Now maybe I'm askin to much, but seems if my 5 year old Sony could detect my wireless network immediately upon bootup, or return from hibernation, then this brand new HP should too. Also, I have just noticed tonight that this laptop running Vista 64 bit doesn't see/detect my 2 other wired desktops running XP 32 bit. Not sure what the deal is with that either. I shall have to do some reading to see if there is something I must do on my network to get them to talk. I remember havin this kind of issue when I had some PC's running XP, and some running Windows 2000. Gotta love new OS's!

My wife had this problem on her HP laptop. Then it went away. The problem, not the laptop :)

I wish I could remember what solved the problem. I'd done several things to her computer at once...Windows update being one of them. Do you have the latest NIC drivers?

You really should upgrade that to at least WAP, or preferably WAP2, upgrading your router if need be.

Well, I will look on my router to see if that's available. Now I'll admit, I'm somewhat naive on the different router encryptions available. Is the WEP 128 easily hacked or something? Basically wondering what advantage the WAP or WAP2 has.

Also, a person I know at work suggested his network runs almost flawlessly by having no actual Wireless Security enabled, but he has a MAC Address filter, that he only allows certain MAC Addresses on the network. This sounds totally unsecure to me. He suggested this to possibly fix the issues with my HDX not connecting to my network when it comes out of hibernation or sleep mode without me resetting the wireless on the laptop. Any ideas or explanation would be cool. Thanks!

    Hi guys,
I received my HDX16 a couple days ago. I have to say i was really impressed. I like this laptop; nice screen, nice keyboard, doesn't get hot on your lap..

My only problem though is the SOUND. It distorts heavily even at moderate volumes. It is so annoying you can't listen to music. I have no distortion if i use headphones, so i think it is the speakers or the subwoofer. I read the various solutions in this thread but none worked for me. I have tried to reinstall the IDT driver, installed windows driver, and installed the Realtek driver to no avail.

Any of you guys facing such problems? I would appreciate any help. I really like this laptop and i hate to return because of the sound...

Got my laptop the other day and I am loving it! I have never had a laptop before this one so I don't really have anything to compare it to but its awesome. I just have a few questions....I ordered it with 2gigs of ram, which I will upgrade to 4. I got the 5400rpm 250gig HD. The space is not an issue because I have a 1TB external, but I was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive? Would the increased rpms be noticable? Also I was noticing the laptop getting pretty hot while playing some games. Should I get a cooling pad? Thanks guys!!!

In my opinion, 7200 RPM HD does make a rather big difference with seek times and such, so performance could be increased. I will say, the 7200 in the laptop does get rather warm, which it will, when it's in such a tight space. So if you can stand the possible added heat, then it would likely be worth it. That's just my opinion of course.

As for the cooling pad, I did get one, and have been rather happy with it. Now the one I got isn't like a $5 pad, but it serves it's purpose, and keeps the laptop a good bit cooler, even to the touch. I got the G4 Titan cooling pad which is expandable/contractable....and has 4 fans. It's not maybe the best, but it works for me, as I use the laptop mostly on a table top. Anyways, hope this is helpful.

Well, I'm still having my network connectivity problems with my HDX16. It will just randomly drop my connection.....usually, it will still show great signal, but it will say it's only connected to Local. I have my Sony laptop on XP, and it doesn't loose connection. I have read a lot on other blogs and forums and they seem to point to the router itself being part of the issue. I have checked all settings in my router that I can think of, to no avail. The only other thing I can think of with the router is maybe it's just not geared to handle Vista properly as it's like prolly 4 years old, so would be pre-Vista??? It's a Linksys, but maybe I need to upgrade.

Another just general question......does anyone know how to disable the annoying clicking sound heard when you adjust your volume with the touch controls? I looked in this forum, and can't find what the person posted as a solution. Any advice would be cool.

Translation: "could someone here look something up for me?"

HP would be the place to look, not here. It's unlikely someone here has all the part numbers memorized and whoever answers your question will have to go to the HP site to check.

    Like I did.

Hey Grinder, yeah, that was one of the first things I checked, or unchecked so to speak. I've also set the network to "Connect automatically when this network is in range" and "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting"..... thought those were going to help last nite, but then this morning, I powered up the laptop from being totally shut down, and it showed it was connected to my network, but IE wouldn't load pages. I disconnected and reconnected the network, and now it's working again. So annoying. I guess I may have to call HP on this one. I never seem to have any luck with tech support, but guess I shall have to go that route.

Well, WEP can be cracked by my old P4 Laptop on Battery while sitting under your front porch. Both WPA and WPA2 (I have the wrong acronyms) are much more secure. When you do get around to enabling WPA(2), change your key as well. Edit: But do that only after you've fixed you've wireless connection problem.

MAC address filtering isn't security either, as they can very easily be spoofed. It's even easier than cracking WEP, with the right hardware.

Try this: Go to Starbucks, or somewhere else with wireless, with the laptop. Connect to their wireless, and see if the hibernate problem is still there. If it works there, it may be your router. If it doesn't, focus on the laptop. Update the drivers from HP. If that doesn't work, update them again directly from the manufacturer (I don't have this laptop yet, so I don't know what card goes in it). If that doesn't work, download a copy of Ubuntu, burn it to CD, and boot from that CD. If you need help with Ubuntu, PM me.

    Redmop,

I did finally call HP, and between them telling me, and these and other forums, I seem to think it's definitely the router. The router is around 4 years old, and was of course Pre-Vista by that age. I just went this morning and got a new Linksys-N-G-B capable router and am gonna try that tonight. I'm at work now, so just gotta wait till then. But if that works fine, then I shall try the better encryption you suggested. I figured the MAC address filter was a bad idea. Well, we shall see if the new router fixes the problem. I'll post my results.

My HDX 16t arrived yesterday, one day after the initial estimate said it would ship. It's amazing they travel so fast from China to the east coast.

First thing I did was burn recovery DVDs. After the first 3 failed verification I switched DVD brands and that did the trick. What a painfully long process that is.

My optical drive (Blu Ray) doesn't seem to be installed right - sometimes I'll hear the "click" of the drawer opening but it doesn't open, and it doesn't close smoothly either. It's like it's misaligned a little. Anyone else have this problem?

Second task: replace the hard drive. Before I switched my order from a pre-built to a custom-built (thanks to a great coupon found here) I'd ordered a 7200 RPM drive to upgrade the prebuilt. When I put together my custom configuration I left the HD as a 5400 RPM.

The replacement drive I used was this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CO3EKQ
    Installation couldn't have been easier.

Booting off the first recovery DVD, Windows started to format my new HD. Just after the process started the recovery software crashed and the computer rebooted. I thought that failing to format the HD before installing it was the cause, but on the next pass with the recovery software the drive was formatted and the software installed - no crashes.

Once I was assured of having a working laptop again I put the hard drive that came with the laptop into this enclosure:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817193053
Since the HDX has an esata port be sure to get an enclosure that supports it. You don't want to slow your data transfers down with USB 2.0!

The screen is nice and bright, and easily readable...even with my older eyes :)

I'm looking forward to really testing out the machine, once I finish updating Vista, removing the crap, and installing some useful stuff.

Hey Paul, my Blu Ray drive hasn't had any issues ejecting, but sometimes when I close it, it seems the plastic front on the drive kinda catches on the plastic around the drive opening. But I've found that if I kinda push in on the drive from the top as I slide it back in, I don't have any issues.

Now as for my wireless issues everyone, I did purchase a new Linksys N Ultra RangePlus router. It does N/G/B modes, so it's backwards compatible. Anyways, so far so good. I haven't had any disconnects at all. Keepin my fingers crossed that was all it was. I'll update if I continue having issues with the wireless.

It really depends on how important your data is to you. My personal router is an old computer running linux with 3 network cards in it.

The first one goes to the Internet and is invisible to the Internet. It doesn't respond to anything, including pings. When I need remote access, I "knock" (connect to a list of 10 ports in a specific order) and my firewall opens a couple of services to my IP only for about an hour, VPN being one of them.

The second network card goes to my internal LAN. It is also firewalled and mac filtered with just a couple ports open to allow administration and needed services from the firewall (DHCP, DNS, etc) All traffic on this port is virus scanned at the router.

The third network card is much more open. This is where my wireless sits. Connecting directly to the firewall is completely blocked, except for another secret knock to allow VPN, DHCP, and DNS. This network cannot get to the internal LAN without using the VPN. The wireless link itself is WPA encrypted.

All of my computers are heavily firewalled themselves, only being allowed to talk to one another.

Of course, I run a business, and my computers can have sensitive customer information on them, so the hard drives are encrypted too.

    ---

For most people, I recommend a good Linksys router that does at least WPA, preferably WPA2. Change the admin password on it. Also, run a good fast virus scanner and firewall on your computer (not Norton or Mcafee, they slow down the computer too much). I like Kaspersky, myself. I also recommend getting a couple of anti-spyware programs on your computer. Spybot, and Adaware are my prefered. Last, use Firefox instead of IE whenever possible.

Trainmann, or anyone who is using N wireless. The factory setting on our wireless card is set at 20 MHz when using the 2.4 band, which in turn gives you a connection speed of 65mbps. If you switch the setting from "20 MHz" to "auto" you will double your connection speed, or more. I typically get 150mbps using wireless N.

Ok. this bad boy has arrived, excellent price (1250 with 30% coupon), the only down side is Vista (cannot get internet radio to work)........but my question is what bloat ware is everyone removing, there are so many bleeding choices I am wary of removing some that may be needed.
Thank you in advance and congrats to all those who have a HDX16.

Remove pretty much everything, except HP DVD, digital persona, cyberlink cam, jmicron, adobe stuff, java, realtek ethernet, synaptics, and protectsmart for the hdd. Replace IDT with realtek HD audio. Get rid of media smart buttons (bass control will buzz your audio), anything HP related, norton, and any other junk lol.

Right click on your connection icon in tray>open network and sharing> open view status (this will display your connection speed)> open Properties (lower left hand corner)> open configure > the setting is under the advanced tab.

Does anybody know where to get a 12 cell battery for this laptop? Or can anyone tell me what the product number (or whatever its called) is for the battery? Thanks in advance.

Lowprofile, I checked this setting and changed it to auto. Now I haven't done much else, but as of now, my connection stayed at 65 Mbps. But we'll see. So far, my connection has been good otherwise.....no disconnects as I was having before with the old router. If anything else happens, I'll let you all know.

I ready to buy this beautiful laptop. But I have a question.
Could I feel the difference when I will buy processor with 2.8 GHz in comparison with 2.53 GHz ?

Depends what you use it for. I only got the T9600 because it was a great deal at the time ($1250..), and every bit helps for games when it's a GPU limited machine. I can play music (on bloated itunes), download stuff, play call of duty, and chat on xfire without a hiccup. It's a very quick machine, but I still think I could live with a P8400.

    grinder965,
-54mbps is the limit for wireless G. In the same advanced setting tab as before, confirm that you have wireless N mode "enabled". If so, you need to check the settings on your router.

    trainmann1,
-sounds like have the laptop correct but the router is limiting your connection speed.

Thanks again LP.....yes I'm limited by my Verizon FIOS router to 802.11g.....no complaints though.....I'm averaging 18Mpbs/3.5Mbps speeds on the speakeasy speedtest!

    Only 1 HDD

I don't think HP has RAID in the bios for the HDX18 either, so it doesn't matter to me

I asked about Processor by reason of price.
I am faced with the choice.. T9400 or T9600? ..
The difference is that I should more pay for T9600 (About 100$).
    I guess I choose the T9600 =)))

Is the service manual wrong then? It says 2.

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01612461.pdf page 8

May be a copy and paste error from the HDX18 though as the hard drive installation section doesn't mention it, nor does the pic appear to show room for a second one.
