Depends what your using the processor for, but generally, a P8600 processor or even P8400 would do fine. They also produce less heat and use less power, so longer battery life. So, you wouldn't notice much of a difference between T9600 or T9400 or even lower. No it doesn't break the warranty to upgrade your own ram.
Here's a CPU guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166906 as you can see, your CPU is pretty much overkill for most tasks.

I am not a hardcore gamer but still i prefer to play some games (Awaiting GTA IV release by this November) along with browsing, watching movies and occasionally do some photo and video editing. Hope everything will be taken care..... -
-
Depending what time I get them, I might be able to do a quick unbox and check out.
Anything anyone wants me to check, in particular, and post here? -
-
-
That should work
-
chk ur speeds with GPU-z, if ur memory speed is 800Mhz it is DDR3 and if its 400Mhz thn it is DDR2.
-
Very upsetting. I also ordered my HDX16 on the 17th, and it still has not shipped. lancorp is very lucky indeed.
-
I have a business Laptop Lenovo T61P and it has a nVidia Quadro FX 570M. Is this a better card than 9600M GT in HDX16t?
-
Well, I'm sure you all will be disappointed to know that the HDX16 has, according to what hasham11 says, DDR2.According to GPU-Z, the 9600M GT has a 500Mhz GPU clock, 400Mhz memory and a 1250Mhz Shader clock.
Now, for first observances, here's what I see (and like or don't):
1) The HDX16t is not shipped in a separate box from the brown shipping box. BE CAREFUL, because the brown box is the only box! Inside the brown box, the HDX16 is held by two foam pieces, and is covered by what is best described as a thin, black t-shirt material sleeve. Once removed, the HDX16 is revealed.
2) Lots of shiny "liquid metal". The sides, the trackpad, the area around the keyboard. It's Gloss-City folks.
3) The keyboard is silver and very rigid. No bounce at all that I could ascertain.
4) The display is beautiful. Very high res. I'm not sure if I like it enough to switch away from my Dell Studio 15 with it's LED backlit screen. Those are truly great. But, I've only used the HDX16 for 10 minutes, so I will do more side-by-side comparisons and decide, later.
5) Seems nicely built, except the touch bar above the KB has what looks like a fragment of a square piece of something lodged under it, almost like a very, very small rectangular piece of scotch tape. Not sure what it is.
6) The bottom removable cover allows access to the RAM, HD, and a mini-PCI express slot (no antenna wires there, though, so it must only be for a Flash cache module.)
So, overall, it's a very nice unit. Some will be disappointed by the apparent DDR2. I think it will be a very fast and capable unit.
It borders on CONSUMER when you see it...something I'm not a big fan of.
In any case, hopefully others here will get theirs, and can add more to this.
Gotta go play (and work...) !! -
Post us some pictures...may be a vdo
-
How glossy is the track pad? Is it so glossy that your slightly moist finger will stick to it while trying to slide on it?

I must say, it's kind of boring being the only one with an HDX16. No one else to gab with!
-
Lancorp, GPU-Z also states if ur memory is DDR2 or GDDR3, and yea im definitely sure abt the memory speeds, 800Mhz GDDR3 and 400Mhz DDR2. Post the picture of ur GPU-Z screen and make sure u r using the latest version. I am attaching a picture of GPU-Z on an Asus laptop with GDDR3 9600M GT, chk it out.

did it come with any extra accessories? i.e. a sleeve, mouse, etc.
-
And this is wat the GPU-Z screen looks like on my DV5t.

but why nVidia makes DDR2 and DDR3 in the same name - 9600M GT?
-
-
^ I wouldn't say it's directly proportional comparing it to others. Anyway, early bird gets the worm as they say.
-
-
Well, I received my first dv5t on the same day as the estimated ship date, I was happy about that. On my second dv5t however, it was supposed to be shipped a friday, but nope. Waited that whole weekend, it was shipped on monday, and received it wednesday. So as you can see, it's only an estimated ship date, never do they state it is 100%.
-
Nope, mine is still in work...Waiting...waiting...
-
I hate waiting... and when they make it its going to take over a week to ship it. God i swear it doesn't take this long to make a laptop... we assembled laptops in our class in about 2 hours.
-
The dv5t can not recognize DDR3 Memory (talking for the PC memory, not the graphics one), but the HDX16 should! We got the centrino 2 both in the hdx and dv5t, make compatible at least the hdx16t, please HP!
If someone got this information? does it recognise the DDR3, we got other manufacturers that directly inplant the DDR3 in their new models, based on the same platform centrino2! -
Pretty much sure DDR2. -
Actually, not sure what the deal is...seems like no one else go theirs today. Truely, I DO have mine here! (two of them actually...keeping one sealed-in-box since I got the killer $500 off just in case someone wants a good deal!)
It was a nicely spec'ed system, too...T9300 CPU even... -
do you have the new wallpapers that come with it?

BTW, if anyone is wanting to purchase an HDX16t and wants it now, and wants to save a few $$$, go check the BUY, SELL, ,TRADE forum here.

Hello Everyone,
I just got my HDX16t. I would say that I should have received yesterday if Fedex had it moved from Indianapolis in time.
Follow some additional comments:
1. Although HP.com says that a dual hard drive is optional there is no space available as the DV7t has. Would be nice to have a second HD but no big problem.
2. In my opinion the HDX finishing is much better than the new DV series, which is too shiny
3. The screen resolution is really nice.
When I was installing the OCZ 4G DDR2/800Mhz memory (2 2G cards) from newegg I noticed that there is a empty slot on the left side of the hard disk. Does anyone know what kind of expansion is this for?? I would assume that this slot fits Verizon WWAN card if available in the future.
Now let's see how this guy runs XP. -
Regarding the slot by the RAM, I noted in my "mini-review/critique" about that slot and the fact that is IS NOT for any broadband card because there are no antenna wires to be found (at least in mine). The only other use is a Flash cache card. -
Humm... I thought HP was against Intel Turbo Memory. Maybe they decided to incorporate the Turbo Memory 2.0 that is now availble. ANTOnline has the 4GB module for $70.00 bucks delivered. There is also a tread talking about that.

Hp really needs to learn how to build thier notebooks... just because i ordered my notebook one day after ya'll i have to wait 10 days more for me to get it? that is retarded. I hope to god that the notebook doesn't have any defects otherwise i'm returning it faster than you can say hp.
-
Does anyone know how to identity/confirm the audio chipset model? HDX16t has an IDT audio chipset but IDT has different audio chipsets, it varies from 2 channels to 10 channels.
Thanks, -
Now, aren't you happy knowing that your notebook won't have any defects! -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
as a new model, i expected the *physical* differences to be greater than simply tacking on some graphics to the dv7t parts.
still a nice looking unit though. -
-
I would like to cry just a little more while we're on the subject.
I ordered mine on the 17th (first day available)
My order was estimated to ship on 9/26, today.
It is still listed as "in production" and it's well into the 27th in China.
It's officially late. Boo Hoo. -
I'll cry with you, my friend- mine was supposed to ship today as well, but it still says in production. Oh well...
hehe...
Anywho- does anyone know if this laptop is WiMAX compatible?? Or do we have to purchase an upgrade for that?? -
I'll cry a little, too.
I had the chance at the $500 off coupon and didn't use it. Now I'm going to have to wait a few weeks for a new coupon and it's not even guaranteed that all of the options I want will be available.
There's nothing in this world worse than regret, man.
EDIT: By the way, anyone who has this with the 1920 x 1080 option... Can you take a physical picture of this? I went to my local Best Buy and Fry's, but I haven't been able to get a hold of a WUXGA resolution screen. -
I have the 1920x1080...but not sure a picture would be worth a 1000 words, as they say. What is it you want to see? -

HP spared little expense with the HDX18t's innards. Although it isn't an Extreme Core 2 Duo processor (that would really jack up the price), the 2.8-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 CPU was powerful enough to dominate our performance tests. It's a Centrino 2 processor, so you get the benefits of a revamped platforma 1-GHz front-side bus, a new Wi-Fi chip, and DDR3 memory. The combination of the processor and 4GB of DDR3 RAM produced a score of 136 on SYSmark Overall, beating the 8920G by 5 percent. Even more remarkable was that the HDX18t finished the video-encoding test in under a minutea rare feat for a laptop. The system also turned in some of the best CineBench R10 and Photoshop CS3 numbers I've ever seen.

Can you confirm if the system RAM is DDR3?
