If you didnt choose the build-int tv tuner when you first ordered the hdx16... is it possible to buy your own and put it into the hdx16 yourself?

Kind of but its hard. You would first have to find the correct part and thats hard. You can't order it from HP. It is a mini PCI express card but its not like a regular express card where you can just stick it in. You have to take apart the laptop. Then you would have to find the drivers etc.

Yes its the one from inside the HDX16t namely mine,
I ordered it from usa as they dont build CTO specs over here for some reason.
The cable bit is pretty crucial but I imagine its orderable, I will check, it would take the antenna to just to the right of the usb port (nearest fingerprint scanner).

I am sorry that this is likely to be a repost. I can't imagine I'm the first person to have this problem but the search function of this website is really weak. The more keywords I add to get a more specific result the more results I get.

I had an error pop up that said:
I've attached a screenshot of the pop up.

I searched on hp.com and there is a thread about this problem but no input from HP. The thread was started two months ago and no solution's been posted. Maybe someone here has some input?

Again, sorry if this has been brought up before but I couldn't find any info.

Yeah I would think without the cable, the tuner would be useless. Keep me updated, I'm definitely interested. Thanks.

What kind of symptoms are you having when this happens? My IDT drivers crash every now and again, but it doesn't seem to effect anything. I mean, I can still get sound. I just ignore it.

Are you sure you want to do this? I mean, you don't seem to know your way around the computer physically.

Go to Newegg and find it there since you're not going to use the Crucial website as suggested above. The only thing you need to figure out is did you order your HDX with DDR2 or DDR3 memory? Don't you still have your invoice?

Or just pop out one of the 2 sticks of memory from the bottom of your laptop and take it to a store.

    Hey guys,

So I ordered a HDX 16 with max specs, 2.93GHz processor, 320Gb 7200rpm HDD, 1GB 130m GPU. I haven't received it yet but I'm thinking its going to eat battery life and have copious heat.

So I'm considering undervolting. I was reading the guide but its like 272 pages long. Has anyone here undervolted their HDX16? If so, how and what are the results?

    Thanks in advance.

Can anyone comment on the gaming ability of this laptop, configured with the 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M, and how does left 4 dead run on this laptop. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Curious, anyone purchase the 16t only to have regrets down the line for not purchasing the larger 18t?

I will answer both the two post above this one:

    1) I can play Left 4 Dead literally on the highest settings with hardly any hiccups. It's very smooth, really.

    2) The HDX16T is HUGE already. I do not regret getting the 16t and rather prefer that over the much larger 18t.

    Im all about mobility.

No idea. I got one too but it didn't come yet. How did you get yours so fast? Try the FN key and there should be some options that pop up on the top of your screen. It could be there.

YOU ARE A GENIUS! IT IS FN + SPACEBAR! SHWEET!

Mine got 2-day expressed cuz they screwed up and delayed my order, they actually redid my order 5 times total so the last time which was 2 weeks ago she threw in the backlight option. Man this laptop is awesome, i love the speed, the look, the battery that lifts the laptop up plus its actually smaller than my old 9700 17" but higher resolution! I am in heaven

Quick question. Do you need the TV tuner in order to record TV? Stupid question I know. But I'm not really gonna be watching TV on this thing but I wouldn't mind recording my favorite shows when I know I'm going to miss them.

    Hi all,
I'm pulling the trigger. How important (or not) do you think the upgrades are?

    1. 1080p screen for $200
    2. backlit keyboard
    3. increased processor speed
    4. 512 video to 1 gig

Is there any must have? Are any upgrades a complete waste?

    Thanks

I just tried using the hdx16 outside for the first time and the reflections in the screen make it very hard to use. I adjusted the brightness, angle of the screen, and even my patio umbrella but it's still hard to see much of anything.

So, has anyone used a screen anti glare filter? From a quick measure, it looks like there's about 14.5 inches between the little screen clips so I'm trying to see if there is matching film that can be slid into the clips - something like the 3M stuff. Anyone tried this yet?

    thanks,
    Paul.

I am not sure which F key it is but its F something. On my Dell Desktop its F2. You hit that when the computer is booting up. It should say which key when it is booting.

I don't know if there is a major coupon out yet but I got mine with max specs with a 25% off coupon I found online. That helped cut $800 off, which is alot. Just google "hp coupons".

    1. Yes, I'd go with that screen especially if you're getting the blu-ray drive. However, it will make your screen look microscopic but I think I'll get used to it.
    2. Yes, I got that. It should be cool especially if you'll use yours in the dark.
    3. I'd go with at least the 2.6GHz processor as that has 6mb cache as opposed with 3mb for lower ones. I got the 2.93Ghz but I'm suspecting it will drain battery life and have excess heat. If you're worried about battery life, get a slower processor.
    4. I'm reading that the 1GB one has DDR3 memory, which is newer technology. The 512mb card has DDR2. I the 1gb as well. If you game alot, then its important.

Bear in mind I haven't received mine yet but thats my advice. I researched this thing for 2 months. Mine should be coming Monday.

Wow. Don't tell me that. Mine is coming any day now. PLUS I just bought patio furniture so I can set outside with it. I think its still too new to find anyone that makes anti-glare for the 16inch screen.

Does anyone know how the Geforce GT 103M chip (with DDR2, HP has confirmed with me) compares with the 8600M GT with DDR3 memory that's used in the Dell XPS M1530?

From what I understand, the 8600M GT is nearly identical to the 9600M GT.

ps: on another note...anyone tried to install win 7 beta on it? it installs fine on mine but after I install all the drivers I get an error after boot...something about system event notification service. Any ideas?

I know one thing for sure. The GeForce 130M is pretty much = to the 9600 man.

You are right, the 130M uses DDR2 Graphics Memory. It uses DDR3 System Memory though, unlike the 9600, which uses DDR2 for both, Graphics Memory and System Memory!!!

That, my friend, is the bottom line.

As far as the game play (which seems to be what you are after in this question) hands down, it's the 9600 winning this battle (between the 8600 and the 9600 or 130M)

They usually have one every month or so. I don't know when but there was one for 30
% in Feb and I missed that. I got it with 25% code. If you can't find it, there probably isn't one right now. Keep checking and be patient. Check all the coupon websites, not just this one.

No, the 130m pwns the 9600m. The 130 is basically an update of the 9600. It has faster core speed by 100mhz, smaller circuit die, and 512 more ram.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-130M.13789.0.html

Its a class 2 GPU and it pwns the 9600 by 7 or 8 levels in this order:

    » GeForce GT 130M
    » GeForce 9650M GT
    » GeForce Go 7900 GS
    » Mobility Radeon HD 4650
    » GeForce 9650M GS
    » Quadro FX 1700M
    » Quadro FX 1600M
    » GeForce 8700M GT
    » Quadro NVS 320M
    » Quadro FX 1500M

Just got it today. The thing is beautiful... Alittle smaller than I expected. I'm comparing it to my Toshiba which is a 15.4 inch screen. The screen on the HDX16 is 1 inch winder but half an inch shorter. I got it with backlite keyboard. I'll posting pics when I'm ready.

Can someone please confirm if the HP HDX16T uses a hard drive with pins that look like the one on the left or right?
Because I know that the old DV6500T uses HD that look like the one on the right.

Below is my HDX 16t setup. I received it on Friday and absolutely love it. My only complaint is the bluetooth mouse which appears to be faulty. It stopped working on Sunday.

For the linux enthusiast, I tried Ubuntu 8.10 on it and it runs like a charm. Everything was recognized properly. However, I didn't test the webcam or fingerprint reader in linux.

    HDX 16t

    – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    – Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
    – 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    – 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    – 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1366x768)
    – LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    – Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
    – Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
    – No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - Full Size Backlit Keyboard
    – 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    – No Productivity Software
    – HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
    – HP Executive Leather Carrying Case
    – HP Bluetooth Laser Mobile Mouse - HDX Series

    Hello,

Just got my HDX16t about 3 days ago and LOVE IT. I bought it off ebay brand new.

I noticed a couple of things that were wrong and so far I havent been able to fix.

The volume mixer in the bottom right corner. When I open it the graphics looks distorted. The main volume bar is fine but the other volume bars like windows sound, cyberlink dvd etc etc look graphically distored. Maybe ill post a picture tonight. I managed to fix everything else and so far im backing everything from my old computer to this new one. It would suck that I have to wipe the system clean to fix this error. I alreadt ran recovery discs twice and got the same result. Someone please advice.

Also the touchpad seems to be kinda COOKO!. It kinda skips when I move it. Ive never been able to get along with these but I dunno something just feels wrong.

    Im running Vista Ultimate 64bit.

    Thanks!
    Mario
