Thanks for the pics optimustarzan!! -
As you can all see, HP ditched the entire plastic baggy+secure seal that they used to ship with HDX16/18. Now you'll never know if your computer was tampered with before you actually got it.
I mean someone could of stuck a tool with some voltage and killed your right USD or who knows. Just saying. HP should be more careful about their top line notebooks.
And something that I couldn't help but notice...
In this picture...
The black wedge on your HDX16T (the rubber thingy, is sort of not correctly aligned) Ugh.
Overall... its looks fantastic!
And the keyboard looks amazing.... BTW, can you change the intensity of how much the backlit keyboard shines or it only has 1 level? -
I love mine so far, with the 12cell battery its a little heavier than I thought it would be. Seems heavier than my old laptop which was a dv9000. But man this thing is fast, the backlit keyboard rox and Vista runs beautifully on it. Also the extended battery doesnt seem to last very long considering how ginormous it is.
-
Also, is that a scratch in the top right cornet above the HDX16 text?
-
@ lemonspeaker: Yeah there was no plastic bag. But it looks new. Yes that rubber is used to rest the screen on the keyboard when closed. Yeah it was not aligned right. However, I could push it in. The backlight only has 1 level....ON.
@ xang0: Yeah my 6cell last only less than 2 hours just web browsing. I have yet to test the 12cell yet. You could turn off backlight and set screen to lowest brightness to prolong battery life.
@ rageman: No its not a scratch, its a light reflection. -
My last HP Laptop (DV6640US) pretty much all of the rubber pieces fell off, including the ones on the bottom of the notebook that help it from moving around on a table. I think I only lost one of the ones on the lid of the screen though. -
What is the total processes running out of the box?
-
A lot! But not as much as the dv6000t series.
-
Yeah like 80! I don't know which ones are not needed.

Hi HDX owners,
I am new to this thread so I hope you guys can help me. I bought an HDX16t in Jan2009. Everything has been going great other than one big issue. After couple of months, I start noticing stains on the monitor coming from various places on the keyboard the touchpad and the palm rest. All I can tell you is it does not go away with anything I have tried by now. I was just carious if any other HDX owner has noticed a similar issue. Thank you. -
Those wedges I mentioned in the above post should protect the display from hitting/touching the keyboard and any other parts of the computer.
It appear that you may have applied pressure of some sort that allowed the display to bend and touch they keyboard.
I know that for a fact because my rubber wedges works by allowing a ~2-3cm spacing from the display to the keyboard. -
Thank you for your reply but the point is not how it got there, it is about why is this paint looking stain coming off of the laptop surface only after 4-5 months of baby-caring and light usage. I was just carious if this happened to anybody other than me since if it did, it will happen to every owner eventually. Not to mention, my direction keys are also losing their black color only after 4-5 months of light usage.
-
I've heard of that happening to a lot of owners blackwave335.
It sucks. It's like cheap paint or something. -
why dont you try to find a dv6t's expresso black keyboard and replace the silver one that you have on your hxd. i think it's look nice... and plus, you wont see the silver paint that comes off again if it did.
-
-
Thank you for your suggestion but the problem is when you spend close to 2k for a laptop you tend not to worry about a thing or at least a defect. lemonspeaker yes it is silver paint that is why i can not get rid of it, it is pointless to use any paint remover since it will come off of other places again. What a shame and mistake to purchase their top liner which becomes this way after 4-5 months. Do you think the warranty would cover this ridiculous choose of material? Now I see why HP is all about the look ! Poor Lenovo I let go over this

I'm new to the notebook forum(clap-clap). I just order my HP HDX 16 and it dshould be coming in next week......can't wait for it! Just wonder how good is the WiFi connection on this laptop. I had a HP DV 9500 and it seemed ok. I'm hoping that it is the same or better. I know the Intel WiFi 5100 has only 2 antennas compared to the 4965 that had 3 antennas. Plus, has anyone tried to upgrade to the Intel WiFi 5300 card yet? Glad to be part of this group now!

As for the 5300 upgrade, I read that it has 3 antenna wires but our HDX16 only has plugs for 2. I even checked. So you would have an extra antenna hanging out.
edit: I'm having problems again. It seems that the Intel 5100/5300 agn is having issues with almost everyone, when I do a google search. No concrete solution. If ANYBODY has the same problem, let me know. -

Now I'm debating whether I should change my HDX16 laptop (resolution 1366x768) for the 1920x1080 version. Those that have 1920x1080 what is your experience? I hear some complaints about the icons and text being too small... In terms of gaming, is performance going to be heavily impacted with the 1920x1080 resolution? I plan on keeping the 9600M card. Please enlighten me.
-
-
I thought you meant that the paint was coming off the keys so that you couldn't see the letters as well now. I've seen people complaining of that before.
However, I have not seen or heard of your problem w/ the paint sticking to the screen!!I'd be sending that sucker in before the year warranty is up!

In terms of video card is there much of a difference between the 9600M and 130M considering that I might be changing to the 1920x1080 resolution?
-

I play that game too. CIV 4 is not a really demanding game graphically. You should have no issues with the 9600m. However, since you can't upgrade GPUs on a laptop, I'd personally go with the best they have.

Ok, exchange in progress. I pulled the trigger on the higher resolution version. Below are the specs. For only $100 difference I'm receiving three new items (in bold):
• Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
• Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
• FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
• 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
• FREE Upgrade to Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
• Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
• Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
• 50% OFF!! HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
• Full Size Backlit Keyboard
• 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
• No Productivity Software
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
In the meantime I'll keep the lower resolution HDX16t until the new one arrives. How sweet is that!?(nothing special I'm just within the 21 day return period but still...)

How do you do the exchange? Do you call them up and say you want to exchange or just buy another one? Aren't you going to return the old one now? Since it will probably take 2 weeks for your new one to get here. By that time the 21 day return policy will be out. -
I had to reformat my drive while on the road and didn't have my restore DVD with me. I installed a new version of vista ultimate and all the HP drivers, but my fingerprint reader is not working. When I booted up before it used to be there at the login screen but isnt' now. Am I missing some software to install? All I have in my box is the restore cd, no driver cd. I really dont' want to reformat and reinstall off the original HP disc since it was home premium and I bought the ultimate. ideas?

About the bumps, they are normal. That is how they are made. Yes it's ugly, but it's only visible under the correct lighting and you can't feel it.
Go with the exchange and you run the risk of getting a computer that is more worse than you already have.
Don't expect HP to be consistent with their builds. It's not going to be the same person who build that one anyways. -
As for the touch part, where all the volume controls etc are, the clear plastic on mine is arched up, where the mute button is. I can put it back with my finger but it never stays in. I think this is a defect.
Yeah that is a risk I'll take. In fact, I'm thinking about the Dell XPS16 now, cuz the inability to connect to my wireless N router is pissing me off. Whats the point having N on my laptop and router if I can't connect to it. -
Do a clean install and install the wireless with the drivers in your swsetup.
If you can't connect, open up the computer and make sure that the wireless antenna is plugged into the right port: Cable 1 in the right port plug, cable 2, etc.
I know that sometimes stupid HP switches up the cables while they are building the notebook and some stupid customer may not know why his/her wireless ever works and goes out to buy a broadband wireless card! Just double check before you buy. And check xps16 review if you decided to switch. -
I have the internal tuner, it does work for analog and HD signals, but not great. I spent $100 for it, wish I hadn't, will never use it. I thought it would good for travel, car, etc, but find it to be useless.
-
I answered my question on the fingerprint reader. There are drivers for it on the HDX16t page and you can search for the software on HP's site. I did a chat with HP support who said it was integrated with the version of vista that HP has and there is no way to reinstall this software and it it not avaialble. They are such idiots, I got it from thier site and it works great.
