The HDX 16 is finally available for order online here in the UK. But it comes with a 2.13 ghz processor instead of the 2.4ghz. According to PassMark there isn't much difference between the two, but I still would like to know if it's possible to overclock it?

LOL. It is the same as mine. Well I got the blu-ray reader but not burner considering blank blu-rays cost $10 a piece. Its maxed out specs. I think its great. Did you get the backlit keyboard?

If you don't mind me asking, what was the total price including shipping + tax? I'm trying to compare that setup vs mine in terms of price and specs. Thanks.

Mine came to about $2400 with max everything except 320GB HDD @ 7200rpm and blu-ray reader. But I also added a 2 year warrenty bringing the total to $2534. Saved almost $1000.

Mine came to just over $2400 with max everything. That does not include the new docking station, ac/auto/air adapter, laptop bag, and Canon Pixma MP980 that I bought to go with it. OH! Can not forget about the HP Mediasmart Server EX487 I bought. :) I went a little crazy.

Thank you guys for providing the prices.

RUDEtHIng, did you get to play around with the Mediasmart Server? If so, what is your experience? Any issues communicating with the laptop and/or other devices? Down the road I plan on buying/building a media server or HTPC but I'm very raw when it comes to this topic.

I have 80+ processes going on. Most of them seem to be HP programs and a dvd player thing. I have yet to uninstall, disable them cuz I'm scared I'll uninstall something important. Any ideas as to which processes or unnecessary?

I just got my HDX 16 last night and am loving it! Question though...how the heck do you get the backlit keyboard to work? I had a MacBook Pro and it was an automatic thing where it would sense when it was dark and you could change the brightness of it. So either this one isn't working or there is some extreme user error going on :p (and yes, I certainly ordered the option of it!)

Does anyone have the HP Bluetooth Laser Mobile Mouse - HDX Series? If so, have you noticed that the sensitivity for the mouse pointer is somewhat high? What I mean is, under Mouse Properties -> Pointer Options having the pointer speed default in the middle using the bluetooth mouse moves the pointer very fast. Whereas with the touchpad is ok. Unfortunately, changing the pointer speed for the mouse also changes it for the touchpad. When I bring down the setting to a lower speed then the touchpad pointer speed is slow. I thought the two would be controlled with different settings...

I have not had much time to play around with the mediaserver. I have yet to stream photos and videos. Currently I have just explored the backup options. My overall experience has been great. I thought about building one but this is so well put together and cheap enough if you ask me. I got mine for $650. I have had no problems communicating with the laptops I own. In fact I am running a Windows XP machine that I could never see on the network and could not figure out why. Well I installed the Mediaserver and suddenly it appears on the network. All is going great so far. If I delve deeper into it I will let you know.

Well my Wireless internet keeps cutting off randomly. Every time i turn the computer back on now it starts off with limited connectivity. I have to disconnect and re connect. This is my third day owning this laptop, and I feel like I might need to return it. I have tried a couple things to solve this problem with no luck yet.

    Does anyone have any solutions?

I'm having the same issue. But on the other 2 computers and my iPhone no problems.

Also for some reason my "L" key doesn't work right. If I don't hit it directly on it doesn't register, very annoying. I have to keep going back and adding it in. Other little things I'm noticing now I've been playing around more...like the sticker for the cover that wraps around isn't placed right.

Anybody having issues with the mute button? My laptop's mute button is always red (muted) although I am able to mute and unmute the sound by pressing it, as the windows taskbar icon also indicates the mute/unmute status. I am however able to hear the sound.

Also, how can I find if my laptop is HP HDX X16T 1000 or 1100 or 1200.

    Thanks.

Hey guys, I had this exact same issue with my new HDX16t. I would connect to my wireless, it would say excellent connection, and then shortly after, it would go to Limited connectivity, but the signal strength was still excellent. My other wireless laptop and other desktop wired computers were working fine. I tried every setting on the laptop. I tried re-installing drivers, I tried everything I knew to do. I finally talked to some computer savvy friends, and they stated that some Wireless Routers that were released "PRE-VISTA" have issues maintaining a connection with the Vista computer. They suggested I update the router, and if that didn't work, try a new router.

I had a Linksys router that was pre-vista....tried to update it, but that didn't help. I went and bought a brand new Linksys router with Wireless B/G/N capabilities.....set it up at home, and snap, everything works great. All the original equipment I had still works fine, and the HP laptop has not disconnected yet! I am at work at the moment, so I can't tell you models of the routers at the moment, but I can let you know sometime if you want.

Don't know if this helps, but it definitely was the solution for me! Good luck!

Great advice trainmann. I'm sure it will help others.

Do you connect your hdx16 to wireless n? If so, how is it? My router is post vista, a Dlink DIR-825 with wireless n. My hp can connect to its N, but its unstable.

Yes. Install Windows 7 on an another partition so that you can dual boot with Vista. Aero is not working for me now, probably need to update the display driver.

With respect to the overall installation experience, I would say things were pretty usual.

I did experiment with Wireless N, and couldn't get it all figured out. Guess that's just my lack of knowledge on the new band. I'm just workin on wireless G for now, and have no issues with connectivity or speed. I'm one of those that doesn't want to change a tire that isn't flat lol. I plan to read up on the Wireless N, and try again on that. If I get into that, I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I am returning the HDX I bought, I have had more problems with this thing than actual time using it. Ranging from computer going into sleep mode randomly while I am using it, to wireless internet blowing out when lid closes and when its up randomly going out. The list goes on...

I have been on phone and computer 3 times with HP's people trying to help me with things I don't know how to do. They kind of shafted me then do this and that yada yada... Just frustrating that a company has poor service. Just to to get a return number was a circus act, listening to them trying to send me a pre built one or wait another month for the same one.

I'll be shipping that laptop back Friday when I get a minute and finals are done. I doubt I will be getting another HP for some time. This is not the first time HP has taking me on a ride just to get something accomplished.

I've been an HP user for a long time and haven't had significant issues with their hardware/software/service. Moreover, I have tested two HDX 16t's with no issues to either. I did have a defective bluetooth mouse which they replaced but apart from that my experience with the laptops have been flawless...

I am happy to hear that. I had an issue with my desktop about 2 years ago and they were on it to help me out. Had everything resolved in less than a week. This time around was just aweful and painful to deal with which has left a sour taste in my mouth. still did noy get anywhere, so its going back..

Thank you for your sharing your experiences.

How much battery life does everyone here get? It seems like I drain 1% per minute! This is on power saving mode whilst doing things like installing programs.

Edit: Ok upon further testing, my battery lasted 1 hr 47 minutes. Power saving mode with about 40% brightness; ran 3 stress tests lasting about 5-10 minutes each. Installed programs for a good amount of time. Played music on about 40% volume for most of the rest of the time.

This seems normal. I just web browse and my 6ell gets about 2 hours. It also depends on your particular specs. Mine is maxed out so I knew battery life would suck so I got the 12 cell battery too. I get about 3 hours on it just web browsing.

Mine is about two hours and my laptop is maxed out. I also went with the 12 cell in addition. Has anyone had any experience with the ac/auto/air power adapter? I purchased it with the laptop and I gotta say it has a pretty cool feature where you can turn off the charging feature. Find that interesting. Also bought the docking station but was disappointed to see it doesn't have at least DVI out. Almost forgot to mention my enter key on the numpad was off when I received my laptop. I managed to clip it on but it scared me. My girlfriend jinxed me, she said she hoped it didn't come in pieces. It did. I think she was mad when I bought the new printer. Something else I was going to mention but I can not think of it right now, to be continued....I guess.

Quick few questions for HDX16 owners:
    1) How glossy is the chassis of this thing? It's hard to tell from the photos. Is it a fingerprint magnet?
    2) Anybody have one with the 130M in it? Hows it run? Anybody know how many 3DMark06 marks it pushes?
    3) How does the 1080p screen compare to similar ones, like the Studio XPS 16?

Surprisingly not to bad on the fingerprints.
I have the 130m but have not had the opportunity to put it to the test.
The screen can only be described as beautiful.

    1. Its a fingerprint magnet. However you can't really tell since the color is not so dark.
    2. I play crysis warhead with the 130M. It plays like knife thru butter. Crysis is one of the most demanding games.
    3. The screens great, comparing it to my Toshiba. But I can't compare it to the XPS16 cuz well I don't own one. However, the xps16's screen is rgb led, which is suppose to show more color than regular ones. However, people in the xps16 thread complain of its over saturated red color.

    1) The chasis is beautifully glossy, but the screen is overly glossy. I mean I can use this as a mirror in the morning! I haven't used a gloddy monitor before though so I don't know how it compares.

    2) I have a 130M in it. I've only tried Age of Empires 3 so far, but I can run Very high settings with 720p resolution :) I'd say it compares to my old ATI 1900XT if I remember it correctly.

    3) Screen is gorgeous. Colours are not oversaturated or anything either. Contrast and brightness are good. Viewing angles are very good (in contrary to some reviews I read). I'd say that overall it is close to my Dell Ultrasharp IPS screen.

    Hi everyone,

I'm very interested in buying one of these machines. Can anyone comment on what 'normal' DVD movies look like when played on this machine ie. does the software do any upscaling to take advantage of the screen resolution? I only ask because when I'm on the road I have few Blu-Ray's but many DVD's in my collection of which I take a few with me depending on the circumstances.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
I just received my HDX18t today.

I can't figure out how to turn on the backlit keyboard, and am wondering if I even have the backlit keyboard.

    (1) How can I tell if I received the correct keyboard?
    (2) How do I turn on the backlight?

    Thanks!

quick question... does the HP HDX 16 from like canada have much flex... cause i went to future shop and looked at their HDX 16 models and they had flex between the numberpad and the right side of the QWERTY keyboard...

this would be a big turnoff if it had.. :(
