Yes it does due to the BD/DVD drive there.

I've bought a HP HDX 16 a while back ago with a low-end processor, and I was wondering if I could upgrade the processor? Can this be done in a laptop or is it impossible? Thanks.
-
yes u can upgrade the processor
-
Depends on your specific laptop. Mine has no issues. Ok some but I'm too lazy and drunk also it doesn't matter too much to write a paragraph about.
-
Depends on your motherboard but I'm too lazy and drunk and feel you are too noob to search for yourself. Like I did for 2 months.

Hey guys, I'm probably going to buy a 16 for college in the next month or so but I have some questions:
1. Is it a worthy upgrade to the 1080p display?
2. Does the MediaSmart software show iTunes music when you open that section? I'm assuming not...
3. Does the remote only work with the Media Smart software?
4. Do you actually use the remote personally?
5. I've heard dust gets behind the screen. Have you all experienced it?
6. Should I spring for the 1GB Nvidia option for games like Sims 3?
7. Was this many questions annoying or no?
Sorry.
-
Hi guys!! i actually just pulled the trigger and bought this machine from frys..
even tho it wasnt the top of the line model... they had an open box hdx16-1140us goin for 799.99 after the 50 dollar MIR and i really couldnt pass it up.. plus a 2 year full warranty.. good deal i would say..
p8600
500gb (5400)
nvidia 9600gt
4gb ram
vista 64
the sales rep even let me open the box and turn it on and inspect to se everything was in great condision before i bought it..
but im very happy with it thus far.. been playing fear2 with almost max and aa at 2x settings running smoothly.. L4D max smoothly..
but to answer some of your questions glind...
1. YES.. but i have the 720p.. but i would say YES.
2. dont have itunes yet.. sorry
3.windows media center/mediasmart.. i dunno about other apps
4.ummmm.. i dunno yet..
5.not yet.. and hopefully never
6.YES.. but im unsure about the heat... the heat right now with the 9600 isnt bad at all
7.i had waaaayyy more questions than you.. so no
i say go for it.. im lovin mine right now.. but than agian ive only had it for 3 days so well see how well it does..
my only gripe right now would be the squishy trackpab buttons..
i prefer the hard clicks.. but its not that bad -
I have a problem using the remote that comes with the hdx
i haven't been able to get it working at all
any ideas? -
What software are you trying to get it to work with? I'm pretty sure it only works with HP media smart and windows media center.
-
1. Yes
2. Don't know dont have itunes
3.Also works with windows media center. Other software I dunno but thinking it wont
4.Yes but not so much. Use when watching TV
5.personally have not experienced it. I know this is an issue on other HP models.
6.No, the lessor card will pwn that game fine.
7. alittle. -
I've been trying to get it to work with media center and mediasmart but no luck
-
Which remote is it? If you have the tv tuner then you also get a bigger remote. Did it work from the start? I don't know, I have no problem with my 2 remotes. Try updating drivers?
-
When bios is booting I have a scratching noise, like fan is scratching (on the left side of notebook), but this is not cpu fan, because sound is between cpu fan and cardreader. Once the BIOS has been loaded, noise dissapears at all!
So i have a question - how many fans on hdx 16 and what should i do.
The exact name of my model is hdx16-1040er. -
My hdx16 can't access this option for some reason. i have a Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer. This always show up "This computer does not have a drive capable of creating CD's or DVDs". When i purchased this computer, i bought the recovery dvds too so im not worried, but i want to know why this computer is having this issue from the recovery manager. What seems to be the problem here? im pretty sure my drivers are up to date. it plays blu ray and everything else fine. thanks
-
Im leaning towards buying one of these tomorrow if I can get a question answered. I've read several pages of this thread but couldnt find any direct answers. I have this configuration:
P7450 2.13GHz
Vista Prem. 64 bit
1080P screen
4GB Ram
320 GB HD
512MB 9600M GT
Bluray w/supermulti drive
My question is, how would the Bluray playback be on this with that processor, graphics card and RAM? Should I upgrade the graphics card to the 1GB? Upgrade the processor?
One other thing. Will 32-bit programs run on the 64-bit vista? I've read mixed reviews and I'm not sure. -

What would you people recommend a new HDX owner does immediately upon buying it?
What bloatware should be removed, should I make recovery CDs, etc? -
1) Make recovery CDs NOW!
2) Play with the notebook for at least 1 week. Take note of everything (STOCK FACTORY condition.
then...
3) GET RID OF THAT HP OS and install a fresh copy of WINDOWS!!! -
Processor and Graphics card are NOT upgradeable. So if you want to make your computer future proof, get the best specs NOW.
RAM, and Hard drive space? Get the cheapest! -
I notice only 1 Fan and that is right under the bottom left of the screen.

Wait I'm confused on 2 and 3. What do you mean by take note of everything? Like the quality it's in?
And what HP OS? It comes with Vista, but do you mean the Media Smart? So confused.... -
What I mean is take a note of everything, such as HEAT or any strange noise such as high pitch noises, beeps, what works and what doesn't - wireless range. etc. EVERYTHING.
Because the next thing you would want to do is get rid of all that bloatware from HP and start clean using a FRESH copy of windows vista.
Sometimes when you do a clean install, your computer starts acting weird. Maybe it gets hotter because you forgot to install a particular driver. Your Wireless card's get a stronger signal for some odd reason.
It's nice and cooler since you don't have all that HP junk in the BG secretly running.
I hope this clarify confusion. -
I just went through 188 Pages of this thread, and about 70% of it talks about:
1) HP's shipping service + FedEx
2) "How long will it take?" questions
3) Ordering status and Build Dates...
Why not talk about MODs, PICTURES, TIPS/TRICKS, System Setup + office space?
This super long thread is half junk talking just about buying the notebook and then complaining about it...
Ugh, disgusted. -
I did. I will pm you tomorrow with my specs/ parts list.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

LOL I know. Some people never do a forum search. I did before I joined the forum. I joined cuz there were issues not discussed.
-
=) Thanks. Nice to see someone agree.
I anticipate your spec scan =). -
i am having a creative t6060.i has just three audio inns 1.subwoofer2.rear3.front.how do i conect it to my spdif in hdx 16.i want a cable like in one end spidf and other end must be three cables 1.subwoofer2.rear3.front.plz tell one like it..........plz tell the product link
-
ok thats all well and good but it doesnt answer my question. will the 512MB Nvidia graphics card and the P7450 2.13GHz processor work for flawless bluray playback? -
I don't see why not. I believe the main factor for blu-ray playback is the video card. I have the 512MB 9600M card and 2.53GHz processor and blu-ray playback is smooth. No issues. The 9600M supports high definition playback and CPU-offloading so all the encoding happens on the GPU. However, I don't know if blu-ray playback has a processor requirement. Do a little bit of research but I believe you should be fine.
-
thanks for the answer. i didnt think the cpu had anything to do with it but i wasnt sure. im not exactly the most technical when it comes to computers. i was doing some research but couldnt find anything that talked about how the playback was. i mostly came across specs and things that said it was capable of HD playback, just not how capable. i wanted some first hand experience with it. thanks

Is the upgrade from the 320GB 5400 drive to the 7200 worth the $50? How much faster are we looking at?
-
Blue Ray will play fine the latest BluRay software does not tax the processor much . http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2346570,00.asp
-
I would recommend at least the 2.53 processor cuz it has 6mb cache as apposed to 3mb on the 2.13.
-
If you get the faster hard drive, it will boot maybe 2 seconds faster. You won't notice a difference unless you do heavy gaming or run programs that access the hard drive alot. If it is only $50 more, I'd go for it.
-
Well, after almost 2 weeks of use I think I'm returning mine. I keep having issues and am annoyed with it. Do I just give them a call and tell them I'm within 21 days so want to return it?
-
Yeah just call them. They'll issue you a RMA number that you put on the box. Then they email you a fedex printout shipping label that you stick on the box. May I ask why you're returning it?
-

What does "color-matching keyboard" mean? I always wonder...
-
I dunno. Its meaningless to me. All the keys on the keyboard match colors
? lol. -
Man I just did a fake purchase of the same spec I have now, which is maxed out, to see how much. With the 30% off its $200 cheaper now. Oh well.

Damn them and their confusing naming. I've been wondering for ages.

Does anyone own the HP Bluetooth Laser Mobile Mouse - HDX Series? I own this mouse and I feel the mouse stutters sometimes, basically skipping across the screen. I also get the same feedback while gaming (Civ IV). However, most of the times is smooth. I'm wondering if this is normal or is this a problem with the mouse or bluetooth. The battery is at 64%... What is your experience with this mouse?
-
I was about to get that mouse simply cuz it matches my laptop lol. Is it any good?
-
I assumed it meant the keys match the color of the trim/exterior. So it would be black on black. I'll let you know when I get it.
-
I actually like the mouse and would like to continue to use it. There's a way to change the DPI from 800 to 1600 and maybe this will fix the issue. I just don't know how to change it. I've looked through the settings and can't find it. If this issue is resolved than I will recommend this mouse to anyone.
-
I actually found how to change the DPI settings. I had to hold the left and right buttons for at least 4 seconds. Unfortunately, you can't tell what setting is being used or if it changed but I believe I'm noticing a difference. It's much smoother now. I will continue to test and see. If I'm not satisfied then I'll buy a wireless RF mouse.
-
Awesome. Hey, do you think the mouse is small? I know its a laptop mouse but I'm used to desktop mouses. Thanks. Oh if you're not satisfied, you can sell it to me
-
I Have the BT Lazer mouse , works great no problems with my HDX18 , the batterys has lasted since Dec i have not changed it yet. i use my HDX for hours each day .My Battery power is 69% , Firmware 1.24 , Manufacturer Broadcom Corp , Zoom in out function is enabled , BT address is 00:0f:f6:6d:93:1e The HP BT Laser Mobile Mouse is set as my default.
