I'm going back and forth between the dv6t and the HDX16 and I'm going insane. Whenever I choose one, i think of a reason not to. For the HDX I'm REALLY worried about the dust behind the screen. I have it on my iPod Touch and I go crazy looking at it. But I really want the backlit keyboard and subwoofer and unique design. But I also like the better graphics option of the Dv6t. I swear, I should just let someone else decide before I go mental.

Congratulations on your new system! In terms of the fan noise I as well hear it when I have it plugged in and/or under heavy use. I notice when the laptop is plugged in the fan noise increases. Under heavy use the system generates more heat so the fan works harder to dissipate heat which creates more noise. These are to be expected.

I haven't turned OFF the "fan always on" option since I do not feel it's necessary nor I think it's recommended.

    @ Optimustarzan

Thank you for the recovery discs. Unfortunately, I don't think they would work as you have a slightly different configuration in your HP HDX.

I'll keep on looking for the Boot Records of the HP HDX 16..let's see!

If they are almost the same amount in price I'd go for the HDX16. Its just got better stuff. As for the dust inside the screen, I've had mine for 3 weeks and I don't see a thing. Although I baby mine, I don't take it outside and clean it once a week etc. I hope there won't be dust and there is none yet.

Just the prospect of the dust makes me lean away from it. I also like the black coloring more I think.

so i just got my hdx16t in the mail yesterday. it looks great. the blu-ray looks awesome on the 1080p. Only problem I'm having is the scroll on the touchpad has been acting up. It completely quit working a little bit ago and I turned off the comp and turned it back on and now it works. Anyone else have this problem? Is it a factory defect you think or something I could fix by changing some settings?

Also the keyboard has a little flex to it. Not a big deal since I dont mash on the keyboard anyway but good to know.

I have that problem too, it will work for a while and then just stop working, turning mine off fixed the problem as well, still don't know what causes it though.

I don't have that issue. Make sure you're not hitting the off button for the touch pad. If you still have that issue, I'd recommend you exchange it or call up HP for repair.

Just want to say i have been running Windows 7 Release Candidate on my HDX 16t and it runs almost flawlessly. THe only thing is that theIDT sound drivers dont work quite right in Windows 7 so I took them off and used the default Windows 7 sound driver which works fine but when I mute my button doesnt turn from light blue to amber. Apparently the sound drivers control the color for the mute button on the Laptop but for me that is hardly a big deal considering Windows 7 on this thing runs way smoother than Vista, uses less memory and doesnt freeze up or slowdown like Vista plus looks way cooler.

And also the RC will be able to upgrade to RTM so i will not need to format or do a clean install once Windows 7 RTM comes out. I highly recommend Windows 7 for this thing.

Does anyone know if the ESata port on the HDX 16 (and HDX 18 and HDX Dragon) is powered? If I get a ESata drive, will I have to make sure it has an A/C power adapter?

HP Bluetooth Laser Mobile Mouse - HDX Series I use this mouse with my HDX Dragon.....works fine and I have no problems with "stutter" or "skipping". Use it on a "freebie" mouse pad given out by my company. I do however take the batteries out when I won't be using it.

I got my refurbished HDX 16 from Ebay and totally satisfied with it!
Changed to Seagate 7200rpm drive and installed Windows 7 RC. Enjoying the 1080p screen!

All working nice except the now half useless touch panel...Hoping Win 7 compatible HP & IDT drivers to come out soon.

My eSata drive is powered by the USB port. I took the 5400 RPM drive out of my HDX 16 and dropped it in an enclosure, the previous version of this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817193062

I then installed a 7200 RPM drive in the laptop.

The drive is runs off the power from a single USB port, though the power cable on my enclosure has two USB connections.

No, I wasn't hitting the the button above the touchpad. So I went to the control panel and figured out that the virtual scrolling for the touchpad is initially enabled. If you disable it and apply, then enable it again and apply that it will start working again. Anyone know what may be the deal? Think I should send it back?

Maybe I'm just picky but the keyboard is kind of pissing me off. From The numbers 7 to 9, letters Y to I, letters G to K, and letters B to M (basically the entire middle portion of the keyboard) it seems to flex quite a bit. Just first impressions with it, maybe I'll get used to it. I figured for being their top of the line notebook it would be built sturdier.

So do you have the unit plugged in to the USB port or the ESata port on the laptop? Is it just one cable (ESata to ESata) or two, with the other connection being the USB port for power as well as the ESata port for data transfer?

i too am experiencing really bad keyboard flex...
its especialy bad on the num bad.. feels like theres nothing hold them up...

i went to the store the other day and tried pushing down on other hp notebooks... dv6.. dv4.. and the hdx 18.. but none of them has bad flex like the hdx 16 does..

it almost feels like its gonna break after a month of use.. feels really cheap...

    anyone else expeirencing bad flex?

I just pushed really hard on mine. Yes there is flex, compared to my cheap new $399 Toshiba. But I don't think it is an issue as its not THAT bad. In fact, I prefer to type on my hdx16 than the toshiba even tho the toshiba feels stiffer. The HDX16 feels more luxurious.

It is two cables. esata to esata for data transfer, usb to power outlet on drive.

If you click the link I gave you, take a look at the last picture. The cable on the right is the power cable...2 usb into one power (though as I said, I've found that only 1 usb plug needs to be connected).

Is the HDX supposed to be better quality than the dv6t? I've heard a lot of stuff about HP's breaking like none other, but is the HDX higher quality? Or just supposed to be?

I think something might not be hooked up right on mine. I can see a lot of white light coming from under the media smart bar. It's between the smart bar and the function keys. F5 to F9. I don't know. It's really gonna tick me off if this is messed up.

    Hi

I am thinking about getting the hp HDX16 1010

    Would you reccomend the laptop?

What are its pros and cons?

Also i have read through some of the pages but not 199 of them

Could you please summarise the issues with the laptop and whether they are really an issue.

    Thanks :)

I've never had good luck using the dishwasher, so I suggest Endust anti-static wipes. They're for electronics and should take care of dust and fingerprints. If you've spilled a soda in the keyboard, well...you're out of luck.

Good choice on your first laptop!

so i called HP support today about the touchpad and keyboard flex issues. The guy had me uninstall and then reinstall the touchpad drivers and software. After about 2 hours of use the scroll function on the touchpad quit working again so this obviously didn't fix it. I'm thinking it has to be some kind of hardware issue. I then told him about the flex in the middle of the keyboard and the light I can see coming from under the media smart bar between the F5 and F9 keys. He said it shouldn't be there and the keyboard shouldn't be flexing either. he had no immediate solution for it other than send it in for repair or learn to live with it. I'm assuming something was assembled wrong.

Since HP has the 21 day return or exchange option I think I'm gonna see about getting an exchange. Maybe they'll give me a free upgrade for my processor or hard drive for my troubles.

Yeah definitely do that. Mine has alittle keyboard flex but I think its normal. If funds allow, I'd suggest just returning it and buy another one. My 1st hdx16 had build issues and wireless problems. I just returned it and ordered a new one with same specs for $200 cheaper.

    Hello!

Does anyone have recover cds for HP HDX 16 1060ES?

I tried making recovery discs but the third disc blocked and I could get it to work. Then I tried setting up another boot system (XP) along with Vista but it seems that the Master Boot Record was changed and now I can't start the recovery partition which is still there. (F11 on startup doesn't affect the boot in any way).

Apparantely original recovery CD's return the system back to its original state, including the master boot record.

    Regards,

    Namik

There should be a recovery partition that you can access through startup. You mentioned F11 doesn't work, but did you press Escape first as soon as the system starts? Pressing Escape brings up a boot menu where you can select recovery and attempt to recover from the partition. I myself used the partition recovery already.

I don't have recovery discs for your setup. Maybe you can order them from HP if no one has a copy or the recovery partition doesn't work.

I'm currently in the market for an HDX16. I know the specific configuration I want to get, but I don't know whether or not I should wait to get it. Currently, hp is offering a slew of free upgrades for their memorial day sale, which ends on the 30th. These upgrades save me about $400, bringing the grand total to about $1700 with tax. As far as I know, there are no big coupons currently available (they have all expired or been used to their limit). Is it worth it to wait for more coupons and lose all of the free upgrades?

I was in the same position as you apple314159. I wasnt sure wether or not to take the upgrades now or wait for another 30% coupon. I made up my mind last night after lots of consideration. because im going to college next year I didnt want to risk waiting and never getting another deal before this fall and lose out on all the free upgrades now. so last night I ordered my HDX 16t and it came to about $1300 after tax. I used a 30$ coupon that i found on the internet as well. The code is SV2132. unless u have time to wait for another deal, then i suggest you make your move before may 31st.
