Hi. I have noticed some extrange spots in the middle of the screen with some moths of use.
Like darken areas affecting 3~6 pixels.
This is the second screen I have and the same problems with few months of use.
I take a lot of care with the machine.
Faulty design?
-
haha how ironic. i get my HDX today which is the same day that the coupon comes out. I just ordered a new HDX and i am returning this one like i planned originally.
-
I'm on the cusp of getting my replacement HDX 16t, does anyone have pics of the moonlight white ? I'm torn on which to get.
-
The HDX 16t only comes in one color option...
-
Yay! The 30% coupon came out today, so I jumped on it. Here's the specs:
Vista Home Premium 64 bit
T9550
4 GB DDR2
320 GB 5400 RPM
130M
1920x1080p
No Bluray
Bluetooth
No backlit
12-cell
No backup or software
I skipped out on some of the perks, mostly because of money. I had to get the T9550 and the 130M though, because I am a bit of a gamer. I just hope they don't use bluray for games in the near future. I doubt it though.
Does anybody know if you can request a shipping date? I'm going on vacation for three weeks about a week after I should receive it, which makes it impossible for me to utilize the return policy. I know the timing was bad, but I couldn't wait for another coupon. -
-
Just called HP. Order cancelled. They can't change the shipping date. I can't risk something going wrong on vacation. Oh well, at least it was easy. Until next month...
I feel like an idiot for not thinking everything through, but the prospect of actually getting my computer was too much to resist I guess. -
So I just ordered an HDX16t with:
HP HDX16t Premium Series Notebook PC
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz)
- FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- FREE Upgrade to 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
- 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
- LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
- Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
- Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- HP Color Matching Keyboard
- 50% OFF!! One 6 Cell and One 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries
Got it for ~$990 with the 30% of coupon going right now, $450 dollars of!!!
Question, I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't have sprung for a faster processor and the bluray ROM drive?
I went with the 1080p screen because I like having a big desktop to multitask, I'm used to having two 1600x1200 monitors going at work, so a 1080p on my laptop will be awesome.
I'll point out that my current "portable" is a Dell Inspiron 5100 from about 1920.
So am I shooting myself in the foot here by getting a relatively slow chip and skipping out on a blu-ray drive with the "big" screen?
I haven't rented a movie in years (cough isohunt cough), and I feel like if I'm gonna watch a blu-ray I'll do it on my TV.
And as far as speed, I like the idea of being able to play games if I want, but I don't need my laptop to be able to play everything balls to the wall for the next 5 years.
So what do you guys think, should I be calling up HP to cancel and re-order, or will I get by with this? -
Oh and big question, is it possible to buy the optical drives seperate? I know with Dells it's relatively trivial to order up a different optical drive if you want to, but I cant find them on HP's website anywhere.
And I assume the CPU is soldered in for good, duh right? -
Hi! I just bought my HP HDX 16 2 weeks ago and two of my keys feel wrong or different compared to all the other ones in the keyboard. What should i do?
Thank You -
-
hey guys, does anyone have a problem with the hdx16's spacebar?? it seems when i hit it to the far right softly it doesn't do anything, like i have to put pressure on it. like my dell m1530 the spacebar is easy, with a little pressure it will work. anyone have this similar issue? what should i do about this? thanks
-
My space bar works fine. if its really a problem then call up HP and see what they can do or return it if its within warentee
-
So is mine.

MAN, I just dont know what to say. I just got my replacement hdx16 in the mail today and I dont know about it. The keyboard still has crazy flex in the middle under normal typing. I can still see light coming from under the MediaSmart bar between F5 and F9. I haven't had the problem with the scrolling function yet since I've only had it on for a little bit. It also seems that this one has a different scroll function than the other one. i move my finger down the scroll and when I stop the scrolling doesn't stop right away. Kind of annoying.
I went from a Dell Inspiron 6000 to this one. I guess maybe I'm just used to rock solid construction which is why the flex in the keyboard is bothering me. maybe the light coming from under the mediasmart bar is supposed to be like that. this touchpad is pissing me off though. i might be done with HP.
Does anyone know what stores sell the HDX16t? I want to go check one out and compare. -
I can't seem to get my audio to work when connecting my HDX to my TV via HDMI. The video is fine but there is no audio. Any suggestions/thoughts?
-
I'm sure it's annoying to have a laptop you're not happy with. Maybe you should just return your HP and get a Dell. You need something you can live with...if everytime you turn on your laptop the only thing you see is light peeking out above the top row of keys then it's just not worth it.

What is a better deal overall, the HDX 16t or the Sony Vaio FW? (The Vaio FW refresh coming soon will incorporate the ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 with 512MB VRam.)
-
Yes, I too have flex but I think this is by design. No problem for me.
As for the scroll, you can adjust settings in the control panel for that.
There is no problem with your laptop IMHO.
FYI, I had 2 hdx16s, both had keyboard flex.
I heard bestbuy may have them if you want to compare. -
-It has a monthly 30% off coupon which sony does not have.
-A backlit keyboard is available
-1gb geforce 130m is better than the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 -

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new HDX16 and would love your feedback.
I'll be using this for College beginning in the fall. I want a higher performace laptop that will do all the usual stuff PLUS play games well. The HDX16 seems to have the right stuff.
Anyway, I'm torn between getting the P8700 2.53GHz or spend another $100 for the T9550 2.66GHz processor.
Also, the screen upgrade to 1920X1080p; does this make a difference in gaming? I will opt have a bd player. Currently I have a 24" flatpanel set at a rez of 1920 X 1200 and it looks great. Do everything look tiny on 1920X1080p 16" display? I've seen the link posted that shows each, but can't decide. It's a $100 upcharge with the sale right now
thanks -
I went large with the processor then tried to downgrade after I placed the order because I realized I'd rather have the lower wattage processor, but it was too late.
I have the high-res screen and I can see it fine. I'm 45, so if I can use it you shouldn't have any problems.
Paul -
i agree, you won't notice the 100.00 difference with the cpu's.
the higher resolution screen is always better, because you can always go lower in the software, but you can't go higher than native resolution. (weakest link in the chain mentality) get the backlit keyboard. -
-
I simulated the experience on my old laptop before I bought the new one. I went here:
http://www.raydreams.com/prog/dpi.aspx
and figured out the dpi of the new screen. I then took a screencap of my desktop and shrunk it down to the same dpi level and set it as my wallpaper. Crude, but it showed me that screen resolution wouldn't be a problem.

I plan on buying the HP HDX16 before the 30% coupon expires. The most I can spend right now is $1200 and luckily it came out to $1,190.57. I'm not really sure what the best configuration is for my budget but here's what I came up with:
* Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
* Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
* FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
* FREE Upgrade to 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive from 250GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
* 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
* 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1366x768)
* LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
* Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
* Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
* No TV Tuner w/remote control
* HP Color Matching Keyboard
* 50% OFF!! One 6 Cell and One 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries
* No Productivity Software
* HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Any suggestions on what I should add and remove to get the most out of my $1200 would be appreciated. -
that config looks good. anything else and you will pass your budget. the color matching keyboard is nice, u might wanna add that for like 35$ more.

I'm trying to get my virtual scrolling to stop coasting. I've been in the synaptics settings page and turned off the coasting feature. However, when I move my finger down the swipe region and stop, the page still coasts. Anything anyone can think of to make this stop or is this just how the scrolling feature works on this laptop?

Thanks for the advice I changed my configuration and my total came out to $1,153.93 with the 30% coupon included. I originally opted for the 1GB 130M because I hoped it would help when I played games like Crysis.
Although a backlit keyboard sounds nice, I might remove it from my purchase because I'm a little tight on money. Does anyone know if I can change the color? -
-
can i play call of duty 4 on max settings with a 9600m 4 gb of ram and a 2.2 processor
-
My HDX16 arrived at my house a few days ago but i wont be home until the 27th, arrrrg this is eating at my brain
lol.
-
I saw this review on Viddler that some here might be interested in. It's a review of the HDX18 but everything in it is applicable to the HDX16 (except the mention of the 8 cell battery).

I'm 100% sure there is no bay for a 2nd hard drive in the hdx16. There is in the hdx18.
No, there is no other color option for the hdx16.
With my max spec'd configuration I can play crysis warhead at max settings.
I'm sure the settings for you are more than capable of playing COD4. However, maybe at lower resolution.
The backlit keyboard is worth the $50. -
yea you should be able to play COD 4 very well on the laptop
-
does anyone know why sometimes while my laptop is in sleep mode, it will basically turn itself back on? it will be closed and sleeping and all of a sudden the hp light on the lid will light up and the fans will start running. is there a way to stop this from happening?
-
What kind of decrease in battery life would I see with the backlit keyboard?
EDIT: Does anyone have a 3DMark06 score with the 130M and the P8700? -
Tonight I ordered the HPX16 for my son’s HS graduation gift. He is going to college in the fall and wanted more than a mid-range performer since he’s into gaming a lot (a little more than I would like

All this for $1,404.89, plus tax-free shipping! This should be a pretty sweet laptop. I’m amazed at the performance for the price (30% off). No way can Apple touch this. Thanks everyone! -
what problems should i look out when the laptop arrives?
-
@ leech21: It could be an automated program thats scheduled to run itself or something, like windows update or anti-virus
@apple: I'm not sure but I'm guessing it will last 15mins shorter with backlit on. And no.
@blownaway: Thats a well configured laptop. Yeah no other laptop can touch it for that price.
@Bmadis0n: You should look for build quality as my 1st one had a bump where the touch sensitive bar was. My replacement has fit issues on the right speaker grill. Also make sure the specs are correct and everything works. -
Anyone know why anytime I close the screen when I come back to the computer it's forgotten my names/passwords for everything? Even things like gmail or facebook, stuff that I check the "remember me" box on it blanks them out. It's frustrating to have to re-enter them everytime. I can't leave it open unless I'm on it because my 2 toddlers want to try to use it!
