the worst part is...is his 12 cell battery gets just under 3 hours...you would think at least 4-5.
-
So I was toying around the idea of going with a HDX18 instead. Both built in the same configuration except one thing..... the processor & blu-ray. The 16" i purchased already has the 2.26GHz processor and the 18.4" has the 2.66GHz & Blu-Ray ROM for only $50 more.....
I just dont' know if i want to carry something that big every day. Weight isn't an issue, just size. I'd like to get the larger one but IDK. What you think? -
I love mine! It's size is mostly in width.

Hi
For a while I have been looking for a laptop with fullhd-display and a 16" screen. HDX16 seems to fit in that category but here in Finland I find it nearly impossible to locate any. 18" are available but they are too expensive for me at this moment.
So my question is does anyone know where in EU I could order the 16" version in a price range of let's say about 1000 euros? Hp's German and Swedish webstores have this model but they don't deliver to Finland.
Please help me out here, I really need this laptop! Thanks in advance. -
Heck, it sounds like it would be cheaper to fly to the US and order one...in fact, get orders from a bunch of your friends, charge them 10%, and you're in business. After all, isn't that the sort of thing Vandelay Industries is about...import/export?
Paul -
Vandelay!!! Vandelay!! Say Vandelay!! hahahaha!
-
Yes, HP indeed has made it hard to buy anything online here. As far as I know, Finland is the only country in northern Europe without a webstore. At the same time in usa you can buy it a lot cheaper using coupons etc. Just so wrong.
If I remember correctly, there are some people who offer a service where you can buy something from usa and use this person's/companys address and then he/they will resend it to you. Anything like this possible maybe? -
There are some companies that do that. I just don't remember who. Do a google search.
-
I tend to use the hp mobile remote control alot but it bugs me that some of the buttons aren't mapped out to work with other programs. Has anyone been able to configure their remote?
-
I have a problem with the subwoofer. It sounds great for a while and then, suddenly, shuts up.
I have tryed Vista64 and Windows 7, latest drivers and everytime the same.
Anyone else? -
Which is better...2.4ghz C2D processor with Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT
or..
2.26ghz C2D processor with Nvidia GT 130M. -
The 2.4ghz wasn't offered when I oredered my laptop here in the states 2 weeks ago, and today isn't either.
I ordered the 2.26ghz w/ Nvidia GT 130M.
Oh yeah my laptop shipped today, should be here next week! -
I'm in the states too
got mine from a reseller. Went with the 2.4ghz processor. Pretty easy to Overclock the video card up to the GT 130M while undervolting to prevent heat.
-
So how does this machine perform when it comes to rather high-end gaming? I know the video card isn't anywhere near top of the line but it certainly isn't terrible either. My concern is whether or not it will be future proof (Primary concerns are Blizzard games which fortunately are hardly graphically intensive. Looking forward to Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3!) with the limited GPU. I absolutely love everything about the laptop except for the GPU and I wish they'd release an option for a higher end card!
Speaking of which, what are the chances of HP soon offering either a new model or an updated HDX16 with a higher-end gpu?
EDIT: As a more powerful (and slightly more expensive) gaming alternative, I'm looking at the Sager NP8662. I'd spec most of it similarly except that the Sager would have a GeForce 260m GTX, which pretty much is guaranteed to run anything, far beyond the 130m. However, I like the design/features of the HDX16t more: blu-ray and full 1080p, nice speakers, all of which I wouldn't have on the Sager, so it's a trade off. When it comes down to it, which will make a bigger difference? I don't know...
2nd EDIT: The last thing I forgot to mention is that I need a machine that is going to last. I can't afford to have major heating issues (I'll probably get a Zalman cooler just in case) and stuff like that. This will be a college laptop and I'd love it to last me all 4 years. -
I would go with the HP instead of Sager. Get the 12 cell battery and the thing will last a good amount. The Sager notebooks are nice but suck the battery alot. When you dont have enough battery to play the games in the first place...its a big pain.
Im going to order mine tomorrow!

Ok I have a question about WiFi.
The HP HDX16t comes with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 with 2 antennas.
Ok so Could I upgrade to an Intel WiFi Link 5300 and use 2 antennas with it or is there a third antenna or is the upgrade pointless?
Heres a good picture I found of it.... about half way or near the bottom of the page...
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-HP-Pavilion-HDX16-Notebook.16712.0.html
Also, Is upgrading to te Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD no big deal or does the laptop use some wierd thing so only HP parts can be used (dohh...) -
After looking at some screenshots on that review page i just posted I found that the RAM was using DDR2 400mhz. 400mhz? ok...arent we a little bit past that.....
-
ok nvmd, i typed in the model # on the RAM in the other picture.... its 800mhz. sorry for the multi-posts lol
-
I was about to scream and go frantically check out my laptop order.
-
wats that displayport for?
-
Where are you going to put the 3rd antenna? I've heard some ppl putting it inside the screen bezel. Tell you the truth, everyone has been having issues with the 5100 connecting at wireless N stably. You can see via a google search. I want to upgrade to the 5300 too but have no idea where I would connect a 3rd antenna.
As for the SSD, its up to you but for me, I would trade space for performance. I mean SSDs cost more and offer less space. All you get is faster boot up and shut down. -
Space is no big deal for me. I am using 40GB right now on a 160GB drive in the desktop and I couldnt see using more than 80GB ever so the 128GB for me should be fine.
-
Ok one more quick question. Ty optimustarzan and phanpride for the help throughout this forum!
Ok so the chances of the 5300 working with a quick fix are not so good... ok so what about these?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...334&name=802.11b/g/n CardBus Wireless Adapter
Wireless Express Card Adapters? This is my first laptop and I dont really know what would work with it or if these adapters are good or not... -
Ordered Mine last night... got $210 off with the student discount + $10 coupon.
-
I've seen people on here install the 5300 in a crappy way, where they rigged it with the 3rd antenna on the top of their screen lid. So it can be done but since the hdx16 only has 2 antenna inputs, its hard.
As for the adapters, I have no idea, this is my first laptop too. But I'm sticking with the 5100 now. The only thing wrong is that you can't connect to wireless N stably. I'm on wireless G now. -
New Bios.
F.24
-
Thanks for the find. Did you install it yet? If so, what differences do you see?
-
Updated.
Everything works fine.
No new options or bigger screen
-
Just updated mine. No issues that I can see.

Subject: HDX16t partitioned with 4 primary partitions
(so I can theoretically multi-boot using all 4 partitions)
------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings Fellow HDXers!
You people have helped me a lot: THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!
For anyone who doesn't mind having a single big C drive...
then what I have to say will probably not interest you.
And if u just want C divided in half, for 1 extra partition,
then just use Vista Computer Manage: that will do it.
(right-click "My Computer", Manage, Disk Management.)
But if u want/need to to have 4 primary partitions,
& u want the 1st 3 partitions to be the same size:
then u may want to keep reading...
--------------------------------------------------------
My 1st goal was to have 4 primary partitions
(because extended partitions can't be made bootable,
& I'm going to multi-boot)
& since 4 is the max, i might as well try for it.
My 2nd goal was to have the first 3 parts the same size.
So that means 96 Gigs each, since I have 288 Gigs.
(NOTE: having 144Gigs & 72Gigs & 72Gigs as the first 3...
is MUCH easier... but i am stubborn.)
------------------------------------------------------------
At first,
I was not able to shrink C 288gigs to less than 144 gigs,
no matter if i used Vista Computer Manage, or diskpart
(windows\system32\diskpart.exe)
they just would not let me do it. (querymax said no.)
Here's what I did then:
I did a personal BU of the C drive of my HDX16...
(Acronis 11 wouldn't work... Active@BootDisk worked.)
Then I used vistaputermanage to shrink as much as I could,
which was 50% = 144gigs.
Then I restored my personal BU to the now 144gig C drive.
(My 1st attempt failed; it got stuck in infinite repair.
so I did a factory restore from the RESTORE partition,
and then I tried the BU restore again,
& then it worked.)
(Note that the factory restore partition ... & the BU DVDs
made with "C:\Program Files (x86)\SMINST\CD Creator.exe"...
... do exactly the same thing, according to my experience.
... But the RESTORE partition does it faster than the DVDs.)
------------------------------------------------------------
Then putermanage let me shrink C enough to do what I wanted.
(actually I could have shrunk more than I needed,
according to querymax.)
Then I used a combination of vistacomputermanage & diskpart:
vistacomputermanage:
(which I used to shrink, extend, delete, and quickformat
with no drive letter assign)
NOTE: Vista Computer Manage would not allow me to make
the 4th partition as a primary partition...
(but maybe I missed a menu selection or something...)
I had to create the 4th partition using diskpart.
Once it's was created, I could use vistacomputermanage
for the other stuff.
diskpart:
The exact command-line command that I used:
create partition primary size = 96000
(next time I'll try 98000
as I had to use vistaputermanage to adj by 2 or 3 gigs,
as 96000 did not give the sizes I wanted,
which was 96, 96, & 96 = 288 total available...)
So I eventually ended up with 96, 96, & 97.
& also the ~10 Gig RESTORE partition.
(Actually: 95.70, 95.70, 96.83, & 9.85)
I could have spent more time to get the 1st 3 partitions
the same (96.076666), but I figured I was close enough.
after I got the partition sizes I was satisfied with,
then I did the volume names & letters.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Additional comments:
Later I went back & did a full format on the 2 new
partitions. it may not make a difference, but I'm not
sure if a quick format is enuf, so I did it to be safe.
I'm uneasy about the format at the end of C drive, where
the boundary of C & F is, because I extended that a few
gigs. I would feel better if the VolumeC partition was
formatted fully again.
From my limited experience I think
the best way to do that would be to do a factory restore.
That does a format & prep that I feel comfortable with.
Then I would restore my personal BU.
If anybody has any ideas about whether my
"formatting after extending" is needed or not...
I would like to hear what u have to say.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I hope my "HDX16 & Vista partitioning story"
is able to help somebody.
Sincerely,
Uzra

Hello all,
While waiting for the model of hdx16 I want to become available here I have been reading the valuable posts of members on this forum. Unfortunately though the more I've read the more disheartened I've become as I'm starting to now think that there are some issues with this laptop that can't be ignored. These include:
1 - dust behind the display; I've read a few topics about this and I can see it's a major issue - one that HP aren't really addressing,
2 - the imprints that can be left on the screen due to the keyboard when closed (which I've read HP says is externally caused damage and sometimes won't repair) and
3 - the fading of the colours on the keyboard
I'll admit the third is the one that least bothers me but then I think if I'm going to spend so much on a laptop I surely want it to be of decent build quality and not have such issues.
I was wondering would other owner's here (with or without any problems) still recommend getting a hdx16? I'm worried now and have reverted back to considering the Dell XPS16 (though I hate the graphics card option it has).
I'd appreciate any thoughts, thanks. -
1. Yes I've read some people have this dust issue. But I personally don't. I would suggest that you rarely take it outside if possible. Mine stays inside 99% of the time. I also clean it once a week by wiping it down.
2. Yes I've read some people have this issue as well. Mine does not. Your laptop will come with a black cloth thingy between the screen and keyboard when you first open it. To avoid this issue, do not close your lid too often if possible and when you do, use the cloth thingy the laptop came with.
3. I only read of 2 people who had this issue. One guy said it could be attributed to his long fingernails scratching the keys when typing. Mine is 3 month old and shows no signs of keys paint ware. I guess you should keep your nails trimmed.
Overall, the hdx16 is still a great system. I too considered the xps16 but when it comes down to it, the hdx offered more stuff for a cheaper price. -
I concur. While I've had issue #2 (and wouldn't get the Infinity glass again) I haven't had any issue with #1, and I recently had my laptop in a very dusty environment for months. I haven't had any problems with #3 either, though I keep my nails trimmed

Hey HDX16 owners,
I created a dedicated driver resource thread for the HDX16 series. Please let me know if I need to add, modify, or fix anything in the thread, as I am not currently an actual owner of this notebook series. Thanks!
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404164 -
Thanks a lot for your replies guys, I'm thinking I might stick with it
-
Mines on the way!
-
Thank you for the driver list page!
-
Should we be installing all of those drivers?
-
I dont think you need to install ALL of them. As long as your stuff works its fine probably. Its a good idea to keep your drivers up to date but as far as installing all of them, if your stuff works fine, fingerprint reader, etc.. you dont need to.
-
For those interested, I did come across a LCD Anti-Scratch Protector for the HDX16 screen. It's packaged w/ a Keyboard Protector as well.
$19.99 w/ free shipping - eBay.
I have personally not purchased this. I own the HDX18.
LINK
Features:
Original Keyboards, Original Color;
It was made by advanced Japanese silicon which is good for environmental protection;
It wont get tired and become brown after a long-time use;
Protects your keyboard from dust, crumbs, spills, and everyday mishaps;
Thin and flexible construction provides a clear view of the keys and dampens the sound of keystrokes.
The Keyboard of the same model may be different in Asia / European countries, please make sure you purchase the right one. -
Hey guys I'm planning on purchasing this laptop (HDX 16-1370US) when I visit the US next month (I live in Canada) since it is not available here. Do you guys know how the warranty is going to work? (Will I be able to call tech support from Canada? etc.)
-
Alright guys here is a doo-sie for you all. I'm getting really really sick of the performance of the Vista 64 bit on my HP HDX16. I really want to downgrade to XP, my question is...will doing this prevent me from being able to use the touch sensitive buttons and fingerprint reader? Are those solely vista programs and drivers or are they compatible with backwards OS like XP. Thanks in advance. A response within the next couple hours would be excellent seeing as how I'm going to be heading to my friends house shortly with this laptop. Thanks!
-
HP does not provide international warranties for their consumer notebooks. So you will have to sent it back to the US...:-/
-
It has been done before with everything functioning, especially by hdx18 owners. Personally I've no issue with vista.
-
So there are so many posts on this that its impossible to find an answer.
How did you all customize the IDT sounds to not get it to rattle anymore? Rather than changing to Realtek - is there a way to adjust the IDT preferences to make it sound better without the rattle. or should i just trash it and get realtek?
Thanks -
