Hey I have a question regarding the T6600 [2.2 GHz] processor

Is it good for extreme multitasking?

I'm gonna have 4GB RAM along with the 320 GB 7200 RPM.

    I'm just worried that I didn't choose a 2.53 GHz processor or something. :(

Most likely. I mean for most uses these days, tons of tabs open if Firefox, Winamp playing, Burning a cd, downloading files, IM'ing, etc, a Dual-core 2+ GHz Processor w/ 4 gigs or Ram (Vista 64) is plenty fine.

I am always taxing my system out, and never experience any slowness, I do have the 2.53. I can even be doing all the above, as well as installing a game (takes a lot of CPU & RAM) and still be fine.

So, are those the kind of things you consider "muti-tasking", because if so I am certain you will be golden. :)

"extreme multitasking"? I don't know what that is, but it sounds like you'd want a quad core rather than a dual. The 2.53 is only 15% faster than the 2.2 - that's not going to make a noticeable difference.

You'll be fine most def. I just got a max spec cuz I plan on keeping it for 5 years at least without it being super outdated. By then they'll prob have 8 core processors.

Would i need to remove any junk pre-installed , and because I am not extremely computer savvy as some of you are. What programs do you think i should install first?? (utilities/etc)

What are the battery options for the HDX16? I have seen re-sellers write 8-cell in their specs.

Well, I am pretty sure it's 6 and 12 cell.

I know that the 8-cell was the only option available when I got my HDX18 in May.

Just so ya know, I get a good 2 hours out of my 8cell on the HDX18. I would imagine you'd get the same w/ a 6cell on the HDX16 since the screen is smaller, and doesn't have 2 HDD's.

Will the HDX16 be a good laptop for running CAD Tools, 2D/3D?

Should be. What are the requirements for those apps? If you want a Quad-Core, you'll need to go w/ the HDX18 and not the HDX16.

Talking CAD here, have you considered the HDX18? I mean the screen is perfect for stuff like that. But if you need a smaller more portable laptop, then yeah, HDX16 is a great machine too. The little brother if you will.

I will say you get more bang for your buck w/ the 18 since it's cheaper to put parts in a bigger computer. Dual HDD's, Bigger screen, Quad-core processor, just something to think about if you are serious about CAD tools.

Well, a beefy GFX-card most of the time. 18" would be too big because I need to travel a bit. Currently using a laptop with 1.8GHz T2400 and ATI Mobility Radeon X1600...

So yeah, then get a decent processor w/ the HDX16 and you can get either the 512mb 9600m or the 1Gb 130m for the GPU. Both, of course are dedicated.

4gb of Ram is standard too, last I checked.

I'm back and with another problem ><

I have a creative mp3 and was wondering if it is possible to play songs on the mp3 using the speakers in the laptop? I have the two sided wire, but when I plug it in and blast both, the volume on my speakers and mp3, nothing happens. But If I plug in headphones I can hear the music if my mp3 is blasting. But I want to use the speakers. Any ideas? Thanks. ^^

You'd have to go through the MIC in jack. Tinker w/ the MIC settings in the Control Panel, the Volume in the taskbar, and the MIC settings in the IDT Audio settings program, also in the taskbar.

I have a few questions about my HDX16

Is the hdmi port also an hdmi input port? I know it has a TV tuner and whatnot, how do I get that to work?
Could I connect something like an XBOX 360 or Comcast cable box to it and watch it on the screen?

Also, after awhile my internet will stop working. I'll be connected, but it won't open anything. I have to reconnect when this happens. It gets tedious. Any suggestions?

    HDMI is just an output.

Yeah, you can hook up your comcast to the TV Tuner, and then open Windows Media Center and start watching tv on your laptop. Or use the HD antenna that came w/ your HDX and pick up HD OTA signals, your locals etc.

You should try both options and let us know how the HD OTA looks. I am in an area where I can't get HD OTA. Not like the big city, or anywhere you probably have comcast, you should be able to get HD OTA.

If you are talking about your WIFI connection, you need to update the drivers for your intel wifi card. I've seen great sucess w/ people going directly to the driver page over at intel's site. If I recall right, it's the 5150 wifi card? Not sure, too lazy to look right now, but get those drivers updated and you should be fine!

    Good luck!

you guys know the dolby surround sound expander and the bass enhancer program on the bottom right in the taskbar?? well when i turn off the surround sound, it causes certain apps to sound different. for example the fingerprint reader. a successful swipe will sound muddy but with the surround sound enabled, it will become clear. this problem also conflicts with AIM and webchat, id have to turn on the surround sound to hear the person's voice clearly. Can u you guys check on this issue for me? thanks

alright so i just got a brand new HP HDX16t, i love everything about the computer ... the webcam is also nice but ive just run into 1 problem

on my old laptop, a lenovo, if i wanted to change the settings of the webcam to lets say black and white, or low light mode, all i would have to do was go into the properties and change it ... then for whatever webcam application i used whether it was facebook video, ooVoo, skype, the webcam would be black and white in low light mode.

but with this HP webcam ... everytime i open up a webcam application the HP mediasmart webcam opens up, and then all my settings from the last time are gone. and when i try to leave a facebook video the mediasmart webcam application doesnt even open up.

BASICALLY, what i am asking is... is there any way to save the webcam preferences on this HP webcam so it is the same for whatever application i use ???

It is the 5100agn from intel. It sucks. I just force it to connect to wireless G instead of N and have had no issues. It just can't connect stably to N no matter what. Also, like rageman said, update your driver from Intel and not from windows update.

Using coupon code: NBM5973 and building the same system I purchased early in the year drops the price to $1,230.49. A difference of $200!! Great deal! (However, I couldn't wait that long). The coupon will only last three days starting today.
