I'm having a problem with the DVD Drive, it's not picking up the blank dvd's I put in. When I put in the DVD, the drive starts to spin and it sounds like its reading it, and on the screen on my cursor the little dvd icon appears as to say it found a DVD but it continues to make noise for a while and then nothing it just stops.
-
-
Have you tried different makes of blank DVDs (although it may seem odd)? Most likely your DVD RW drive (or is it a Blu-Ray combo?) is malfunctioning...so I think it'll be wise to call up HP... -
hi guys i just bought a new hdx16t
im sure you have heard of this question before but in your opinion what is a good cooling fan for this specific laptop??
im deciding between:
the Zalman NC2000 because it has a lot of surface area for the fan to blow cool air into the laptop and the:
EVERCOOL Royal NB cooling pad Model NP-901
because it advertises that it exhausts the hot air out as opposed to air intake
or if theres some links in the previous pages that would be appreciated as well thanks guys -
I'm fairly sure they are, here's one that I found on ebay, I'm planning on ordering it for the backlight, and the US layout. http://tinyurl.com/nlkabz
-
Holy smokes that's great! What a cheap price!
-
I'm looking for some guidance. I recently ordered a HDX16 from HP that is still "in production" with a completion date of 9/11. I ordered it on the 28th of August. At the time of order the blu-ray player was not a free upgrade as it is now. I have sent HP an email in regards to this but I wanted some insight as to what I should do. I couldn't justify paying $150 for the upgrade but now that it is "free" I would sure like to have the ability to play blu-ray. Any suggestions?
-
Order another one and return the other. From what I have read you can't cancel or change your order. Sorry.
-
Yeah, I was afraid of that. I was hoping that there might be another way to resolve this such as a local hp store just swapping it out or something. If I order another one I'll have to wait another 2+ weeks to receive it.
-
Well, I received an email back from HP regarding the Blu Ray drive. Basically they informed me that I could call and cancel the original order, once that is done I could re-order another one with the free upgrade. In the end it'll cost me an extra $50. My question to all of you is this. Is it worth the hassle in addition to the 2 week delay? Or should I just take ownership and upgrade the drive at a later date on my own?
-
Why is it gonna cost you an extra $50? If you are gonna have to wait two weeks anyway, just order another one and use the old one until the new one comes in and then return the old one. As long as you return the old one before 21 day refund period is up.
-
Because I will have to use a different coupon code. The original one expired. -
Oh yeah, that sucks. I was/am kinda in that same boat also.
-
Honestly, the more I think about it the less "worth it" it becomes. First of all I am in a bit of a time crunch since I may be traveling soon. Second of all I don't really see the "need." I mean, how big of a difference will it really make on a 16 inch screen. I really don't plan on hooking the pc up to a big screen HDTV. I can use a dedicated Blu Ray player or a PS3 for that when the need arises. Thirdly, I'm sure the Blu Ray drive consumes more power than a DVD drive on a laptop with pretty lousy battery life as it is.
I think it was more a "wow" feature than a necessity. Besides, maybe in the near future I can find a Blu-Ray writer which would be more valuable.
What was the nature of your "boat?" -
In my situation, I ordered my 1st one with a 25% off coupon. When it came, fit and finish had issues.(media touch bar had a hump which would hit the screen when closed). Also I regretted not getting the TV tuner.
Then I found out a 30% off coupon so I went ahead and ordered another one with TV tuner and added 2 year warranty. It ended up being $100 cheaper than the 1st one.
Then I called up HP to do a return for refund on the 1st one. They asked why and I said cuz I wanted the TV tuner and that was that. They gave me a RMA number that I had to write on the box and I went to a FedEx place to ship it back. 5 days later I had a full refund. -
hello. I am new in this forum..
I bought my HP HDX 16 about a month ago.
And, I am very satisfied with all features in this laptop.
I have one question, is about how to connect Internet using my Sierra 885 modem.
When I run Ping, there is connection.
The weird one is, I browse via Firefox, IE, even Opera it says there is no connection.
I checked on Control Panel, and yes there are connection.
I try to fill the IP ADDRESS and DNS, accroding to my communication operator's websites, but still no change.
When I try this modem to another computer it can connect perfectly.
Is it different if I want to connect using Windows XP or Vista 64 bit?
And this modem is support for XP and Vista.
Any suggestion ? I am very very wonder what happen with my laptop.. -
hi...new to this forum but have been trying to follow it the past few weeks.
i just got my HDX a few weeks ago and am loving it so far. i typically do a format and re-install of the OS whenever i get a new computer but i mistook the recovery discs they sent me as vista install discs so i didnt. i tried to uninstall everything i know i dont need but was wondering if it's safe to remove ALL the HP related programs like the media player and health check. i dont want to break anything. i have the bluray drive so i can still use windows media player to watch movies right? currently, i was using the HP one since i can use the remote. will that remote still work if i remove the HP stuff?
my config is below.
thanks!

Hi,
Not really an owner yet, but looking to place the order this week ;-)
Here's the config I am planning to order (price: $1313, before taxes+recycling)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
No TV Tuner w/remote control

12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
No Productivity Software
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
I want to use the laptop as a desktop replacement mostly for web browsing, excel, word, you tube videos, dvd watching (occassionally), and storing lots of photos. I like upgrading to faster better components (thus the P8800 and the GT 130M), but I don't want to pay the premium for components for which I won't notice the difference.
Questions I've got --
1. Is the 275$ premium for P8800 over T6600 worth it? I could go in for a relatively cheaper 100$ upgrade to P7550 (2.26 Ghz) instead. I don't think I would notice the difference between P7550 and P8800.
2. Is the $100 premium for 130M worth it if I don't intend to play games? I do however intend to watch blu-ray dvds, and I would hate to see them stall while they play.
3. Is the 1920 going to be too small on 16"? I need the 1920 for full effect of blu-ray. Am I better off upgrading to HDX 18 instead? I am rather wary of the weight of 18t, however.
Thanks! -
ok, So I'm about to order now. here are my specs:
Upgrade to Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
FREE Upgrade to 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
FREE Upgrade to 16.0" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
FREE Upgrade to Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer

Full Size Backlit Keyboard

So I'm good right? does it all look good? any recommendations? -
Just got mine last week and the battery won't charge higher than 55%..
-
Does the HDX 16 support dual HDD's?
-
Does the HP site ship to Canada?
-
I had a similar issue. I discovered this coupon code "Add to cart and apply stackable $250 off coupon code NBLX5644" but had already ordered. I simply called and was able to have them not only take off that price but add the free printer and they gave me a 70 dollar credit for it. Well theres a rebate for the hp printer so ill be receiving an additional 70 dollars off my order (also tax comes off too)
Theres alot you can accomplish by calling that you can't do with e-mail and online... Lesson always call ive gotten many things from free shipping to free products that way just make sure you connect to the right department! (heres looking at you bestbuy always request for .com when calling them)

They ship from China to u.s. so i dont see why they wouldnt ship to canada. -
No it doesn't. There is only 1 hdd space. The hdx18 does, but its huge.
-
That looks like a decent configuration to me.
-
1. I'd get at least 2.53Ghz one.
2. If you are not going to do hard core gaming, then I'd say it isn't nessery. The 130M is only 17% faster.
3. I have that screen and although it makes eveything look small, I got used to it. Plus you can have 2 windows open. The hdx18 is good but heavy and huge. If you are going to carry around your laptop, then I'd suggest you get the hdx16. If you're just going to have it sit there and never move, then you can get the hdx18. Plus with the hdx18 you can get quad cores and dual hard drives if you wish. -
I am new to this forum and would like some help if possible. I am OK with computers but not an expert.
I have just gotten an HDX16 Vista 64bit machine and I am having problems with HDV capture via a P1394 (firewire connection) from my Sony HC5 camera. The Computer recognizes the cameraand installs the drivers. I Open the capture SW and I can control the camera from a playback, stop, rewind ..etc... However, I cannot preview the playback on the computer and cannot capture the file.
To make sure that there was no issue with the camera I have taken the camera to stores and have been able to capture on Dell and Gateway Vista 64 Bit machines with no problems. I use a freeware called HDVsplit to do the actual capturing but I also have Adobe Premier elements 4 and it has the same problem. I have used both HDvsplit and PE4 for the last two years on my previous HP Vista 32 Bit machine (9335nr) with NO ISSUES. I have done this on a completely "clean" factory system to make sure that there wasn't any SW conflicts. Finally, I also used the pre-installed Muvee SW to try and do the capture and still have the same problem when the camera is in HDV mode. If I put the camera in DV mode I can preview and capture from it, but obviously it defeats the purpose of taking the movie in HD.
Would greatly appreciate any help.
Unfortunately the computer was was taken back to Costco yesterday BEFORE I discovered this site since HP support pretty much washed their hands of it. I would like to re-order the computer ASAP if you folks think this is a fixable issue (my 9335nr had one of those back screen deaths..!!) Thanks again. -
i was just wondering if anyone had some pics of their laptop or unpacking it specifically from this forum tho
...if not im gonna maybe take some of my un-packaging
-
Could someone direct me to some good backpacks for this laptop And a soft case to put around it? The softcase im looking for will remain in the backpack, so i need one that zips the short way.
-
One of the downside for having a 12 cell battery on HDX16 is the mic and headphones jack are tilted 30 degree due to the battery lift the back side of the notebook.
So if I have headphone plug which is not an L shape but a straight forward shape. It will have a bad angle to plug it in. More like I'm afraid it will snap my headphone plug.
Most DJ big headphone plugs are large at the plug. -
You know, I would really love if HP could include a good gaming GPU for this notebook in the future. It is one of HP's shortcoming's. The NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M would be a good option. It is 28W TDP compared to the 130M, which is 23W TDP. Is there really a big difference between 23W and 28W in terms of heat?
-
-
Good point. I didn't notice that. But then again, I don't use head phone jacks.
-
The 130m is not the best gpu for sure, but its not crappy either. I can play most games at max settings, like crysis warhead.
-
dear guys , i just joined this forum to have 1 question about my new laptop
i just recently purchased hdx 16t , i notice there is some dent on the speaker side , near the mediasmart button
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=6463d554018a422c9bf8d6369220dcabe04e75f6e8ebb871
do you think its normal ? if not i have to complain hp and request another one
please advise!!
thank you! -
No that's definitely not normal! I think there's also some dent near the 'Dolby Home Theatre" logo on the speaker grill (unless it's an optical illusion by me). You sure should have it replaced...
-
Not normal. If you call HP they will ask you send it back for repair. If you're still in the 21 days return policy, I'd suggest you return it and then get another one.
-
You play Crysis at max with the 130M? What are your frame rates? Any stuttering?
-
Ok thanks , i will return this thing ASAP!! thanks for the input!!
-
About 25-35fps. I have it set on 1,366 x 768 resolution. It may be also cuz I have a fast cpu and 8gb of ram too.
-
Please Delete.

With HP releasing new notebooks, is it expected that HP will also refresh the HDX series in the near future (Windows 7 release?).
-
has anyone tried a keyboard swap?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190329775131
this claims to be the right one for $50.
HP part number... 496673-001

not sure if it will tie into my model FF047AV which uses 496672-001

figure there may be another connector for LED power that i don't have. -
Hi I just received an HDX 16 1370 from Newegg on Friday, I'm using it for work and today the C key pops off and I can't get it to slip back on and stay. Can anyone tell me how to get it to stay? I saw a couple ppl posted on pg 253 they were having similar issues.
-
nvm im an idiot
-
I just received my HDX16 today from hp.com. It appears that the subwoofer is not working. I did a search in this thread and found very little about the sub but I did find lots of subwoofer info in other HP threads. Does anyone know what the problem is? I have seen reference to a 2.1 setup but mine only shows a stereo speaker setup. I downloaded a tone generator and I'm definitely getting nothing out of the subwoofer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone.
I didn't find any info about running the new Snow Leopard OSX on our beloved HD HDX16t.
Anybody tried it?? (if it's legal of course) -
It may be a lose wire. Call up HP. They may ask you to send it in for repair. However, if you are still within 21 days refund policy, I suggest you refund it, then get another one. This is because sometimes when you send it in, you get it back with more damage.
