Hey guys whats up do you think that they are going to upgrade the graphics card to a better one and have a i7 or quadcore or will they just release a new machine. I have a feeling they are going to i just know it.
-
Ok this is from a while ago.
The battery is working fine after doing that, thanks!
The "s" key is still working so no problem there.
The processes are still bothering me sicne there are still so many, but I think once I get windows 7 it will fix most of those.
The "scratch" on my screen that my laptop shipped with moved. Yes, moved. What was a horizontal scratch is now vertical, and more noticeable now than ever. I run my nail over the glass and feel nothing, which contributes more to my theory that it is a hair underneath the screen, which is what I thought it was all along. Is there any one with any information about how HP is on problems like this? Will they be accepting to exchange it for a new model even though I bought the laptop almost 3 months ago? If so do you think they would allow me to switch some specs around if the total comes out to cheaper than what I paid for it? Because I bought it when there was no 30% coupon so didn't get everything I wanted.... -
Hi Guys
I didn't see anything while searching so I would appreciate your help on this. How do you determine what exact model number of the computer?
I am upgrading to Windows 7 and want to download the appropriate drivers but don't know if I have HDX X16T-1000, HDX X16T-1100 or HDX X16T-1200. I am guessing it is 1000 since I got it early on, but don't know for sure. The model number on the bottom doesn't list any numbers after the "T". The other methods suggested on HP's website don't give me an exact number either.
Thanks -
I figured it out -- it is the HDX16T-1000. There is no model number on my computer, but the p/n gets you to the same place.
Take care. -
Hi, please help me. I tryed to update bios in HP HDX 16 and my computer during update was freezes. Right now it is not booting. How can I update bios?please help me!!!
-
that's bad man u should have waited when itss frozen it always do that and the fan gets loud but it updates the bios at the end if there is no booting or u cant see anything on the screen u will have to take it back to hp so they recharge your bios through the motherboard(isp=in system programming) but before that make sure that u disconnect any thing from ur laptop and remove the battery for a couple of minutes then try to boot again
u can also remove the RTC battery on the motherboard it might work 75%
if u dont know how to remove it use the hardware and maintenance guide on ur model page at hp support and drivers -
hey guys, can any of you help me get the touch eject button to work again after installing Windows 7? What do i need to download to make it work? I have all the drivers installed and all the software but it still won't work. Any help would be great!!!
Thanks,
Keith -
Greetings, it's been a while since I last posted here. Yesterday I decided to give the TV Tuner a shot. I plugged in the antenna and then I went into HP Media Center and the system recognized the Tuner needed to be setup. I tried setting it up for Analog and Digital, however the system did not find any channels the four times I tried. Did I miss something? I thought it was as easy as plugging in the antenna and setting up the software.
My apologies if this has been discussed already but I truly do not have the time to go through the entire thread. I did search the forums but did not find a solution. Can someone help? Thanks! -
Just installed windows 7 on my new HDX 16... i love it
Its really nice with 1920x1080pix resolution
Can someone help me with a question ?
Recently i got mye Hdx x16 1300eo. IT has Geforce GT 130M graphic card.
I just updated to windows 7, and tried to connect it to my 47" phillips LCD tv through hdmi.
But there is no sound on the TV.
I have done the following:
In the playback meny, set hdmi as default.
Reinnstalled both graphic driver and the soundcard drivers.
Both with no luck. -
Happy owner of my HDX16t for a year now. I have a question about the width of the drives that can be installed - will 12.5 mm work or does it have to be 9.5 mm?
Western Digital has the 1 Tb 2.5" drives now, and ideally I'd like to buy one as an external (for backup) and install another on board with Windows 7. Unfortunately I've heard that they only fit in notebooks that will accept 12.5 mm drives. Will the 16t fit the bill? -
Hiya guys,
Just got my HDX16t a few days ago and I am proud to say that I can now join the thread's ranks. Can't wait to get into some discussions
I'm ordering my free upgrade of Windows 7 sometime soon, how's everyone finding it? From what I've heard it's a lot better than Vista (Microsoft weren't hard pressed for that achievement). Also, how are you all finding cooling options on your machines? I've got a cooling mat, a cheap/temporary one I found which took about two degrees celsius off my cpu whilst idling (lol!). I'm considering Arctic Silver 5, is that a good idea? -
Windows 7 is Basicailly XP with Vista's clean look. But if you're just now ordering the upgrade you might not be getting it for a while.
My 18 stays normally cool on my lap with the GPU idling at 60c and the CPU at 50. I also considered throwing in some Artic Silver, but I was having issues getting my keyboard off, so I didn't get very far D: -
Mine's GPU and CPU seem to idle considerably lower at about 45c and 40c respectively. I've just heard some nasty stories about HP laptops and the generic thermal paste they use so I'm going to take the safe side.
Will HP be taking their time on shipping since it's free? -
Its just standard 5 day shipping, if you want to call that slow. I actually got mines 3 days after it left the factory in China, so you can look forward to that at least. Just don't count on it.
Maybe this weekend I'll make another attempt at dismantling my 18 and seeing if I can get to the heatsink. -
My HDX 16 seems to be getting extremely hot,
its normal running temperatures are around 69-74 and the GPU is at 76 Degrees,
when i play a game the CPU raises to 97 \Degrees and the GPU goes t around 87.
I know these are really scorching temps
,
I am looking for a good cooling pad, can anyone help me please.
I tried calling tech support,
i am on holiday at the moment in India and Mine is a UK laptop and the HDX 16 isnt current available in India the lady says so no support offered here.
am thinking of extending my carepack warranty so i can get this fixed whn i back in jan(my standard warranty expires in Dec)
I tried undervolting but the Orthos program would crash at the first change.
i am looking to buy some kickass cooling pad as a solution now, can anyone please suggest anything else i would be able to do .

I'd suggest cleaning out the air vents first before anything else, unless you do this already, then you might have other issues going on with the system.
There was a cooler I remember being highly recommended by a lot of the 16/18 users.. I think it was this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998686 -
kewl thanks, i havent tried cleaning the air vents also,
ill try that now and read some reviews abt that cooler also,
Cheers -
I recently maxed out the C drive on my x16 (games and movies, mostly) and suddenly lost most of the files in my User folder. A lot of movies, documents, pictures all disappeared suddenly, though some other types of files were still there. I ran some file recovery programs afterwards and sort of found them, though most had already been overwritten. Anyone encountered this sort of thing before?
I checked for viruses and such, and came up with nothing. And the time of file deletion coincides with the moment the drive maxed out (during a game installation).
It's not a big problem since I sort of have backups, but I'm still trying to find an explanation.
The laptop is less than 2 months old. An external HD seems necessary now. -
The hard drives will start acting wonky when you drop below 3-5 gigs of space. Windows needs at least that much to keep running properly, and more. It should have spit out a "hard drive full" error of some sort though.
It's always a good idea to consider the hard drive maxxed out when there is only 10% of the drive's capacity left free. -
Just upgrade to windows 7 ultimate (did a clean install). All went very smooth except I can't get bluray movies to play. Ideas?
-
actually, I can't get any movies to play. Media smart is installed.
-
Hi everyone,
I have had this laptop since around March. If I have the IDT driver installed, within a week it will seem to deteriorate and crackling and popping occur even when I'm not playing any audio.
I am thinking of returning it if this can't be resolved. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Yes I've tried Vista and Windows 7 drivers alike (I have Win7 RC installed).
PS: I've also had other problems, such as the keyboard putting dirt on to the screen; keys becoming unresponsive or popping up from their sockets; media remote not working; not to mention the glossy screen becoming very hard to use in any well lit environment. Does this give me grounds for replacement/return? -
I give up on Mediasmart under Win 7. HP says they dont' support WIN7 unless you ordered the notebook with it. THey sent 5 different versions of media smart to try, none worked. Downloaded the Cyberlink software, plays the bluerays great.
-
Anyone else notice this machine is no longer listed on HPs site?
-
When I ordered my Pavilion DV7t last week I asked about the HDX16t and the guy said they were pulling it. The current pavilions replace the HDX series with the new i7 Core processors.
-
such a shame. the HDX was a much nicer machine than the DV series.
-
If they offered better colors most people wouldn't mind though. I guess the moonlight white one doesn't look too bad.
-
For sure. That moonlight color is bad-a.s.s.
-
I agree, it did look much nicer than the pavailions. But with the Envy's and i7 pavilions there was no need for the HDX series anymore. ):
-
Hi everyone,
I've just recently purchased a HDX16 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 64. In the meantime I've also received the Windows 7 upgrade I had orderd from HP.
After installing the upgrade using the HP upgrade manager, I also installed the following updates which I downloaded from the HP site from the Windows 7 - 64 bit section for my laptop:
IDT HD audio CODEC driver (SP45011.exe)
HP MediaSmart DVD software (SP45690.exe)
HP MediaSmart MVP software (SP45691.exe)
HP MediaSmart Smartmenu (SP45140.exe)
HP MediaSmart Webcam software (SP45962.exe)
HP Quick Launch buttons software (SP45889.exe)
HP Tone control software (SP45617.exe)
After reboot everything seemed to be working perfectly, or so I thought.
Display was OK and I had sound working. But when I went into the configuration screen and using classic view double clicked on the "sounds" icon, nothing happened! The sounds configuration window did not open. So I could not change any settings for my playback nor recording equipment. I tried right clicking on the speaker icon in the system tray and then clicking the sounds option, but this did not help either. That was symptom number 1.
Then I tried using Skype 4.1. It started up without any problems, but when I tried calling someone it started playing the sound for making the connection and then froze. I had to reboot the laptop completely because I couldn't terminate the program, nor could I terminate it via the task manager. After reboot I fired up Skype once again and went into its configuration screen. When I tried to go into the sounds configuration in the Skype setup, it froze again and once again I had to reboot to end the task. I've checked on the Skype website and version 4.1 is certified as Win 7 compatible.
I also have a Logitech Webcam with its own software. The same thing happens when I go into its configuration screen and to its sound configuration to adjust the built in mike volume. The webcam software hangs and I have to reboot.
I conclude by this that something is messed up with the sound drivers software. So I deinstalled the IDT audio software and drivers via Add & remove programs option in the Windows configuration window, rebooted the laptop and reinstalled the software with the SP45011.exe file I already had from the HP web site. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. Still getting the same hangups and still unable to go into the sounds configuration.
Has anyone of you guys experienced the same symptoms after performing an upgrade to Windows 7?
I've now rolled back to Vista by restoring my disk image I had made just before the upgrade. The same configuration under Windows Vista is working perfectly without any hangups!
I've sent an email to the HP support team, but haven't received a solution yet. Any ideas anyone? Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards
Dave

Let us know how you like the DV7 Quad. I was condering the DV6 Quad, but I really want a higher resolution screen that it offers, otherwise great price right now on it.
-
I would not mind buying the dv6 or dv7 quad, but the screen resolutions is an absolute no-go for me. Give me the option of a 1920x1080 screen resolution and I'll buy it, until then... Hopefully HP has something planned in the future.
I'm very disappointed they discontinued this series. -
Try uninstalling it and reinstalling, but be warned, I had to do a clean install of Windows 7 because of that very issue. I spent days going through the registry and files cleaning out every bit of the previous install but I could not get it to reinstall so I finally gave up and did a fresh install of windows 7 and got the issue fixed.
-
Thanks, tried the uninstall but it failed. manually deleted what I could find and used a third party uninstaller program HP recommended. Still doesn't work. I just installed Cyberlink Power DVD 9, that works fine for Bluray.
-
So far its awesome. THe 1600x900 resolution is perfect. 1080p would have small text but ideal for HD content. Go figure the 16:9 ratio screen? But so far its fine.
The HDX series were really nice but with the Envy's taking over as their top of the line notebooks and pavilions with i7 processors there is no room for the HDX series. -
Yeah. I'm just so ocd it bugged me, and I started noticing other little instabilities with the O.S. after it which bugged me even more. With the fresh install, all that is gone, so i'm good now. hehe I've already decided I'll just upgrade to the quad core when I'm ready. I do really like this HDX18, I just don't enjoy lugging it around everywhere. hehehe.
-
Hi dkwhite, do you have any answer for my question?
-
Dose the HDX16t game well?
-
Im not sure what the x16t is but I have an x16 which has a Nvidia 130m, which is actually quite powerful. Can play most modern games on medium-high.
-
Yes the GT 130M is quite good and the 9600M GT ain't bad either. Especially once you overclock it.
I disagree about the HDX not having a room there in the HP notebook family. It was kinda an elite series provided by 'em. I don't know if the ENVY can really replace the HDX but initial rating suggests that they haven't...yet. And no offense...but I think the HDX was much better than the DV series either...in terms of features or looks. The latest version of the DV and the newcomer ENVY may have the latest techs (as they "should" have)...but couldn't it be implemented with the HDX series too?? I think HP would've ran out of stock if they'd do so. Apart from jokes...I don't know if they plan to launch the HDXs again in future by somehow refurnishing 'em (mostly in terms of hardware components...because they were beauties already). But whether they do or not, there will never be a "proper" replacement for 'em. They were (and still are) like gems...and will always be...
Diamonds are forever... -
hey Giz, you were able to do a clean install using the upgrade disc you got from HP for the free upgrade? Have you found any other issues? I FINALLY got my upgrade yesterday, upgraded in fear of wasting time trying clean install and it not taking it- so far only one majorly annoying issues with quicklaunch buttons.
-
Uhm, you know what forum you are in, right? lol Easy there killer.
im not too sure about the Envys Taking over" without a hidef screen option... sure better processor, but that will not always mean the best overall.
I built a machine 7 years ago, for around $600 that matched and beat many machines up until about 2 years ago. Everyone was amazed by it and always thought I just bought it.
I will do my best to keep my hdx16 in that same prime performance, but this is my first performance laptop and the bios is a bit limited so no overclocking... yet.
-
You have answered your own question here, imo. You have windows 7 RC.
I found a LOT of similiar issues after installing RC, and previous. So much annoyance I could not stand it, and spend 8-9 hours restoring to factory (after deleting recovery partition for more space, and had to order recovery DVDs). unfortunately it put the recovery partition right back on (Super annoying).
Get your free upgrade and do a clean install is my advice. The HDX are great machines, again imo. -
Basically?
hhmm, I tend to think otherwise on this for a few key reasons:
(Granted, this is my opinion based on some facts no single persons word is ever golden!)
1) Different versions of 7 allow different features that Vista and XP do not offer, ie Bitlocker.
2) Benchmarks have proven better performance with any version of 7 over any version of Vista and XP.
Of course Linux has the best yet.
3) 7 drivers must be licensed by/with manufacturers = nowhere near the issues seen with Vista and the sleu of issues yet still occurring.
-
As those of you that opted for the free upgrade probably already know:
They started sending them out, but got a lot of complaints because things did not work perfectly with every aspect out of the box.
They made a driver CD to go with the upgrade CD, then re-shipped last week (11/20).
This was not only HP, it was also Dell and other various manufacturers that used Avataro or whatever to fulfill.
Personally I feel they could have done a better job planning this and allowing them to be sent with the release of 7 on Oct. 22. -
If you already tried by setting NVIDIA HDMI output as default and there is no sound I would take a look at the next step in your setup- are you using the speakers on your TV?
If so make sure the HDMI audio selection for whatever connection you are using for video "HDMI 2" matches for the sound, and not "HDMI 2" for video, and something else for Audio, ie optical, etc.
I have also seen on some TVs where it will allow an HDMI video input, but you will have to use an alternate for the sound. Naturally I feel this defeats the whole purpose of HDMI but whatever I am sure they have their reasons, probly cost.
Hope this helps! If not, there may be more I can try helping you with. Feel free to contact me by messenger in my profile. -
Not sure who checked it out when I posted it happening, but for further info everyone can see the Windows 7 Expert day forum for answers to many questions:

no issues with clean install, worked perfectly.

Windows 7 Doesn't play blu-ray movies; it's an operating system. You need specific codecs and media players installed. Try VLC, very lite and easy-to-use. PowerDVD is an extremely sluggish program but seems to play blu-ray movies, but only if you UPGRADE to their super deluxe special person package. BS player pro plays blu ray, Zoom player also good. Try Zoom player, need to basically play the BDSM folder of the disc. (I think thats what its called) Probably single most important thing to do is install all necessary codecs for ur comp. do a google search for sharky's codeces or just let the media player u choose to DL install them for u.
