Many threads on this and any other forum are annoying, uninteresting and redundant (to me), but don't tell people to stop talking about it. People come to vent and ask questions. If people keep going on a particular subject, it must be interesting to someone! It is, after all, a PUBLIC forum.
I, personally, find it odd that I'm practically the only one with an HDX16t. It is peculiar why no one else's has shipped. But, as much as it is all conjecture at this time, you're right, it will get here when it gets here!
-
You have yours because it was probably in the first ones to get shipped or something... Obviously to save money hp waited for a bunch of laptops to be made before they mass shipped them. Customers last?
-
Or, mine has some sort of cancer that was discovered after the first few went out the door, and production was halted for a few days to fix it! Who knows...
-
One could only hope its the GDDR2 cancer
I am a bit disappointed with that, but I got such a great deal ($1250) I can't complain. The only laptop that can compare at this price point is the Gateway 7811FX (while it's on sale), but I rather not purchase a laptop known to have lock up issues, and an ineffective fan control.
If I really like the HDX16, I may actually return it/sell it for an HDX18 (hopefully I could transfer the $500 coupon?). Another couple inches of screen real estate and quad core, mmm. -
OK Great!
Would you mind posting your WEI score here? including detailed individual component score?
Thanks very much. -
Specs of my HDX16t are below. My Vista 64bit WEI is 5.1 and the particulars are:
CPU: 5.4
RAM: 5.9
Graphics: 5.1
Gaming Graphics: 5.3
HD: 5.3 -
I would not count on "transferring" the $500 coupon. Currently, HP has banned HDX's from their coupons, and coupons are a one time deal.
Good try, though!
-
I just checked my shipment, and its already in Alaska.. pretty good and it says it left alaska at 2pm which is even better. So i can hope it will come by friday. And i live in texas so im assuming it wont have to go back to alaska?
-
Thanks again.
Seems my 200GB 7200 HDD is faster than the 250GB 5400 -
Without a doubt. I put a 7200rpm hard drive in my last laptop in place of the stock 5400rpm drive, and I could have sworn that I upgraded the CPU in the **** thing. It sped up the system boot times and programs launches so much, it was unbelievable. I also went from 8MB cache to 16MB, so I'm sure that helped too.
-
Ok, I think I'm buying one of these! Only thing stopping me is the fact that it comes with a 6-cell battery. Isn't there an extended battery for this?
-
THANK YOU
Now we have something to compare to.... -
Sweet it will be here tomorrow, mine is with the fastest CPU(2.8), i will be providing Vantage and 06 scores tomorrow as soon as i get back from University.
-
Got Mine delivered 5 minutes back.....
-
"On FedEx vehicle for delivery"
Next few hours are going to be painful... Hopefully I'm early on the route. Really amazes me that it was in China so soon ago. -
Got mine delivered at 9am this morning
-
I just received mine an hour ago....I have yet to open been taking care of some paper work.
-Ordered on Sep 18th 2008 (Midnight)
-Ship date was Sep 29 2008
-Delivered today Oct 2 2008 (10AM)
This item went from China and straight to my town, I couldn't see any locations on the tracking number.(Weird) -
Awww....everyone is getting their HDX16t's now...
I'm not Special anymore...
-
well in the US HP is good, in the rest of the world they SUCK- no way to config, see the Uk site and look at the options I have.. urrghh I like HP better than dell etc, but as it stands today- I would rather be off-line than getting a HP from the UK...
-
Just got mine delivered. As someone that works from home, my productivity just took a dive for the day.
-
Mine too got delivered. Still packed. Just finishing couple of paper work for that.
Cheers HDX
-
Hi Lancorp
Every owner of HDX is special. So don't feel low. Be happy that you've joined an Elite group thats HDX16t Group.
-
If HP offered the Quad processor as well as 4G of ram for this laptop I probably would get the 16t since it's going to weigh a lot less...
Did you guys see the 8G option they put up there now? *** is that about? It goes from 2 to 3 to 8! And to get 8 you have to pay $750.00 more... -
The 4 GB option was there when I ordered but I stuck with 2 and ordered 4 from newegg. Cheaper...
-
Just came home from my classes, and there it was.... on my desk the thing of beauty.
-
Bummer, I live in Hawaii so I won't be getting mine until tomorrow!
What is everyone's initial impressions? Mainly talking about keyboard and heat. -
It's amazing how fast HP shipped- ****, just yesterday it was in China- today, it's in my house in New York. ****....
All I have to say is- you guys won't be hearing from me for awhile- hahaha -
Joined? Hey man, I received mine first of anyone, so everyone else here "joined"...me? I don't follow, I lead.
-
yeah, I just saw that when I was checking out if anything changed. $800 for the upgrade? Ouch. But, considering that only G.SKILL at Newegg is $340 and everyone else is about $800 for 8GB, then HP isn't that far off. I would never pay $800 for 8GB....$340 was just right...
Since the HDX18t has the Quad offering, I wonder if a QX9300 would work in a 16t? My guess is YES. Same chipsets/innards...Just the BIOS in the 16t would have to support it. -
Do you think it's a possiblity they'd offer it? My problem is that I would be waiting for 3 things to happen with the 16t before I was totally comfortable getting it...
1) Offer 4G straight from the factory. Why that's NOT an option is totally beyond me.
2) Offer the Quad processor.
And of course a nice coupon would be awesome...
But since neither of the top 2 are SURE to happen I'd be playing a waiting game and I've waited way too long for a laptop already. I just want one and I want it now...lol.
Plus I'm mainly concerned about the weight and whether the 18t would fit in my Belkin Sleeve...
But I guess if it doesn't I could always buy a messenger bag... -
Considering there are no coupons now, the QUAD capability of the HDX18t puts it in a whole nuther class. Competing notebook models with a QX9300 start at $3000 (Dell) and even lenovo's qx9300 notebook starts at $5299! So, I consider a very nicely configured HDX18t for around $1800-2000 is a bargain no matter how you look at it! The price difference between a '16 and an '18 is only a few hundred dollars, which buys you an 18" LCD and a QUAD CORE CPU!
My guess is that one day, HP will change their pricing, and you will wake up one morning ready to buy that QUAD HDX18t, and find out they changed the pricing to an $800 upcharge.
-
You're probably right about the pricing...
However like I said my main concern is size, mobility, and just how big it will really look.
I wish there was a way to know if any of the local stores around here have the notebook in stock or something so I can see it in person and toy with it for a while. Maybe even try to fit it inside my current sleeve so I can see if it will fit or not... -
I'm almost positive the HDX18 is not in the retail channel yet. No touchy/feely yet.
I see lots of Macbook Pro 17" at coffee shops and around. I wouldn't imagine the HDX18 is THAT much bigger. You know, you can buy one, and if you don't like it, just return it! No worries! Order both (16 and 18), play with them, and send one back.
I certainly would not be using the sleeve as a condition of deciding which to purchase...you can get a sleeve cheap! -
So all of you receivers of HDX16T's was it worth the wait?? Speak ! LOL while the rest of us patiently wait. Have fun
-
Yeah, I'm surprised we're not seeing more first-impressions. What's the verdict? I have read that the "infinity screen" gimmick causes excessive reflectiveness because of the 2 screen surfaces. How is brightness/color of the LCD? Keyboard feel? Heat production?
-
Did the ship date you are referring to come from HP or Fedex? My Fedex ship date is 10/2 and says it has departed Alaska. I really hope to get it before weekend, but think it is unlikely. Any guesses when it will get to San Francisco based on my info in picture? I know, I am being impatient.

FYI...
Microsoft's live.com cashback on ebay is back to 30% off any BUY IT NOW item (up to $200 back per item)!
Now would be a good time to get a good deal on a HDX notebook PC and same some money.
Just go to www.live.com and do a search for "dell laptop". It will show you results including a link to ebay.com with a 30% off graphic. Click on it to go to ebay. Once you see the 30% off symbol, click the "conditions" and read so you know what is going on. I think you need a live.com account (MS Passport?) to get your cashback.
I happen to be selling an HDX16t on there, so look around for a good deal (mine?!)...
Time to go shopping! -
It has to go from Anchorage to Indianapolis and then back to S.F. Sometimes, that can happen in a day, but usually two. I found, even when I ordered with FREE shipping (Ground), that it get's there via Air and very quickly.
-
I'm surprised you guys haven't gotten yours yet- especially since you're on the West Coast. I would figure HP would have them shipped there the fastest.
I'm not gonna lie- this laptop is sweet. I just wish HP would ship one of those special cloth things so that you can wipe off the fingerprints that show up so easily. Besides that- no complaints. Hello, Call of Duty 4 multiplayer!! hehehe -
As you can see in the previous post, they go from Alaska to Indianapolis. Not exactly on the West Coast...so those on the east coast get theirs first.
My HDX16t came with a silky sleeve, looks like a cleaning cloth to me! (at least it seems to be made from the same stuff lens cleaning cloths are made of...). It's way too thin to be a real sleeve so it must be for cleaning. -
Lancorp do you really own ALL those laptops in your sig? If so do you really use them all?
Also why are you selling your HDX 16t? -
Yes, and yes (some more than others). The Studio15 I think is going away, though.
I'm not selling my HDX16t, I'm selling a HDX16t.
I've ordered an HDX18t also, and if I like it, I might sell my Dragon.
I buy notebooks like some women buy shoes!
It's also my business and hobby.
-
Lol that's cool. Just was curious...
-
A quick question, the notebookreview.com review said that the HDX18's 9600M GT has GDDR3, and a review on the HP's site said that HDX16's 9600M GT uses DDR2, is this true? They don't use the same graphic card RAM?
-
Most think the PC Mag review was wrong, because the HDX16t review said it was DDR2 also. Since no one has an HDX18t yet, we can't be sure, but probably the same DDR2.
-
Actually that shipping date was HP's shipping date.
On Sep 26th to 29th, which was Friday-Monday , it was stuck in China and I was getting that error when I tried to view the tracking number.
Come Monday the 29th(My shipping date) it went from China straight to my house in 2 days ,Oct 2nd. Somewhere along there, I missed one or two stop since I did not check Tues/Weds where it landed.
When I'm awaiting something in 1 week, I tend to keep myself busy that whole week. -
Thanks. Mine has been stuck in Indianapolis for the last 12 hours and I imagine it will remain there through the weekend.
-
Wow, just wow this notebook is amazing. I can play world of warcraft at 1080p resolution capped at 60 framerates the whole time. Its amazing. The detail is outstanding.
-
I hate you....
