With standrad fed ex shipping can I still get saturday morning/noon delivery? It departed Memphis a few hours ago, I'm in Tampa, so I figure it's pretty close.

Sorry, guys. I hate to bring this up but all of us who get these lappies are affected by it - the price. I've been eyeing the dv5t, now the HDX 16t. I deeply regret the night that I saw the hdx 16t at the lowest prices (and with the $500) but yet I didn't get it thinking the price could only go down - which as wel all know is the complete opposite of what happened.
Any (good) chance that the HDX 16t will come with a large coupon, maybe towards thanksgiving or christmas, or should I just suck it up and pay the $1800? -
woohoo...i just got my hdx16t last night.
HP emaild Order shipped on Sept 27.
Fed-Ex stated no info avail. on the tracking number provided by HP until Oct 1
Oct 1- At Fed-Ex facility in Shanghai, CN
Oct 2- At Anchorage facility, at Indianapolis facility, at local Facility, Out for shipping, shipped at 12:30Am
Installed a Seagate 320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive (within 3 minutes of opening the box lol)
Installed Vista Ultimate x64 and installed all drivers. Everything works good yes almost everything; except:
-No on-screen display of Keyboard Button Controls like it is on original setup.
-The Mute button doesnt go Orange when muted
-Vista System Ratings is 4.8 due to video card on fresh install vs i think 5.1 on HPs pre-installed system.
Some Issues:
-the speakers even on 50% vista volume make sound like they are blown when theres bass in music or video.
-Speaker makes a noise like its just shorted when laptop is shut down completely
-plastic left to the trackpad clicks when pushed in top-left corner, even a slight palm weight makes that sound
Anyone else with these issues? -
I hope so, I'm in the exact same situation as you; departed Memphis earlier today and I'm waiting for it to arrive to Tampa. -
-
Arrived in tampa tonight, I'll call in around 9 am I guess and see if I can pick up or if they're delivering...
-
i will call tech support n see wats up with speakers -
Just got my HDX16... all was well until I went to put in a new hard drive.
1) the battery isn't -QUITE- flush like my dv5t is.. one of the corners pops out a tad and refuses to go down.. anyone else?
2) when I opened it up to put in a new hard drive, I noticed the upgrade panel (the thing you unscrew) was also bulging a little bit.. I had to press the corner to 'pop' it in.
3) after unscrewing it, pulling out the old hard drive, and putting my new one in.. I notice there's a bit of bulge on the hard drive area.. it bulges the plastic so it touches the motherboard area of the RAM.. once again.. anyone else notice this?
Dave -
I've had the HDXt 16 for one day and have not played much with it.
I've just un-installed some bloatware, that's about it.
1. My audio does sound kind of strange, almost like it skips and jumps when you use the volume panel near the speakers. Just doesn't sound right past 50% and with songs that have some BASS.
2. I notice with the 4 seperators between the [F1] keys, there is some FLEX when you press the 3rd one from the left. It's between the [bright^]/[play/pause]. All the other have no flex whatsoever.
Those 2 keys are a tad higher.
Well that's it for now let me know if anyone has the same. -
Anyone try to run wPrime? I just get an error with Ultimate 64 bit. Downloading pcmark05 now.
Also, Hardware Monitor doesn't show the hard drive. -
So far I am very impressed with this laptop. The screen is amazing. I previously had a DV5T which is a nice system, but overall this machine runs cooler and boots up much quicker. I have the TV Tuner and Blu Ray and both work great. Watching HD Channels on this screen shows amazing details. -
Never used any HP but heard that they are generally hot, how is the heat from HDX16 compare with DV5?
-
Anyone have ideas why the video card rating drops on re-install? I'd like to get it back to 5.1!
-
I received my HDX16, I was initially going to just sell it on eBay, as I had stumbled upon an incredible deal on an Acer 8920 18.4" 1080p laptop after I placed my order for the HDX, and was tickled pink with the Acer, but the urge to compare the 2 side by side was too great. I can always send the HDX back to HP if I elect not to keep it.
Initial Impressions of the HDX16:
- Keyboard is great! Very easy to type on, no flex at all, and very quiet.
- Audio is very good. Better than the Acer 8920. The bass response vibrates the notebook.
- HP has trimmed down the bloatware a little, not nearly as much garbage on the HDX compared to previous machines I've purchased from them.
- Touchpad is Synaptics, which is great. Mouse buttons are a little noisy, they make a "clacking" sound when pressed.
- The Infinity Screen is kind of a lame gimmick. An extra layer of thin glass to cover the screen and the full bezel. The only thing it really accomplishes is adding more reflectivity to the already reflective glossy LCD. It's not as bad as I had heard though, and certainly not a deal-breaker.
- The 1080p LCD itself is pretty nice, viewing angles are good. It doesn't quite measure up to the Acer 8920's LCD though. The Acer is rated at 300 nits brightness and has a 90% color gamut (which basically means greater contrast and color saturation). The HDX's screen was just a tiny bit dimmer, but the colors were noticeably duller in general. Don't get me wrong, I think most people will be more than pleased with the LCD, it's just not quite as spectacular as the Acer. Go into the Nvidia control panel and turn up the Digital Vibrance control to 15% to bring the color saturation up to where it should be.
- I didn't get a chance to really put it through it's paces yet, but it didn't get too warm from just general use, and would most likely be comfortable to use sitting in your lap.
Some side-by-side pics with the Acer...
-
Nice pics? The HDX does look a bit duller. Is it the power options for the battery that might be the problem?
And if not I'm sure there's a way to tweak it to get better performance...
HP just loves to torture me. Sometimes I think okay I'll settle for less and just go ahead and buy the **** laptop but the 16t has no 4G option right now. However I know for a fact that it will fit comfortably in my Belkin sleeve and it won't weigh as much as it's bigger brother the HDX 18t...
Yet on the side I really like the idea of having a Quad Core processor in my laptop. Especially at the great price they have up right now. And I think that if I get the HDX 18t I'm gonna go ahead and get Vista Ultimate 64 bit since I'm going on all out. But again I'm afraid of the size and weight of this beautiful laptop. I guess I could carry around a messenger bag in addition to my bookbag but I think it would be a little weird.
And let's not forget the fact that there are no coupons for either notebook as of yet....
Decisions decisions....
Modoc what do you use to protect your Acer? A sleeve and if so from where? -
About Problem Number #1, I got rid of that HP Quick Touch Control Software. Much Better. I do not need it. I can no longer see when I have caps on on the screen anymore but that software seems Buggy. Got sick of that click, click, click sound.
Anybody tried Number #2? -
Hey, since you can't seem to make up your own mind, let me do it for you--GO BUY AN HDX18 WITH QUAD AND VISTA X64!
There. Done. Now, go on...go buy...shooo...go on...now! Use the 5% off coupon...that should help some...
-
5% off isn't going to do a lot to be honest.
Especially when you know HP has 400 coupons or even better 30% off coupons once in a while. I'll give it 2 weeks. If nothing is out by then I'll go ahead and buy it. -
2. Yes I see the flex you are talking about. The design is so so...not really what it should've been
2. I did notice the panel popping up, as someone else said a design flaw, i agree. they should've put in a screw at that corner as well.
3. I put in a Seagate 320GB 7200RPM hdd, and i didnt notice the bulge on the memory. Will look again sometime when I open up the panel.
theres a mini-PCI-Express slot near the HDD. Anyone know what that is suppose to be used for??? I'm assuming TV Tuner. I didn't get TV Tuner, so I dont know. -
For any of you guys that missed out on the deal-- I have a well-equipped HDX16t for sale on the NBR Marketplace. I upgraded to Blu-ray and added the TV-tuner. I only upgraded to P8600 so it wouldn't use that much power, and that CPU is plenty fast for almost anything these days. I didn't upgrade the RAM or HD because they are cheaper to upgrade with better components from Newegg. The configuration I have right now is currently going for like $1873.99 or something rediculous and i'm selling it for over $400 cheaper than that, and about $600 cheaper than that if you don't want to the Blu-ray player (i'll take it out and keep it so you can put in your own drive).
This laptop has amazing sound at high volume for a laptop... despite what others have commented on regarding it. The only use it has had is a some web-browsing and music playing. I haven't registered it-- only created a user account so I could test it out. It is a really nice laptop, but I just don't need it right now. If nobody is interested in it i'll probably just return it to HP for my money back.
Here is a link to my sale for those of you who missed out on the good deal.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=306552
I also noticed some international shoppers that are upset it isn't available for them-- here is your chance!
Like I said, this is a great laptop ... it is beautiful and works great.

Does any one see the mouse in hp store like on that link http://cod4boards.com/news/48429-hps-pavilion-hdx-16-entertainment-laptop-gets-reviewed.html
I want to buy this one !
And can I buy hp remote to my hdx 16 ? -
-
I seen a thread and somebody had mentioned something similar this and he took the keyboard off and noticed a screw was not tightened.
"xtreme571" noticed the same and responded which is what I wanted. By no means, is it a deal breaker. -
Wiped the HDD and installed Vista HP x64 again.
Worked great.
I didn't notice many flaws as you guys discovered. Maybe mine is a "non-rushed" laptop. -
Thought I'd give everyone a heads up. The HDX16t is no longer $1299, instead, its regular price is $1499. Why, you may ask? It still appears as $1299 as HP gratefully gave everyone a $200 rebate to bring the inflated price back down to its original price.
This also means that even if we get a $500 coupon, it will only really be a $300 coupon as the instant rebate cannot be combined with the coupon.
-
They do state "Prices, specifications, availability and terms of offers may change without notice."... -
My system has a bad pixel and it looks like I will be sending it back. HP support said you have to have 4 bad pixels or they will not replace the screen, even though I just wanted to send in the 2 day old laptop for repair.
Oh well . . . . -
I don't see why people are being so negative about the HDX and whether or not coupons will be put out for it.
I mean HP has had coupons for all their other major notebooks. Why is this one any different. Unless one of you works for HP secretly or something?
Anyways I'm going to give it about 1 or 2 weeks. If there's no good coupon by that time I'll buy one of them at the price they have. -
).
By excluding the HDX-series on their normal coupons, HP is classifying the HDX's as an elite or "special" line, just like Dell does with their XPS series. Dell will have coupons all day long, every day for everything but their XPS lines. Circuit City coupons ALWAYS excllude Apple, and certain SONY TV products, etc.
So, by excluding the HDX series, one can surmise that it will be a rarity that there will be a coupon that includes all their notebooks. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it seems since they have now classified the HDX as normally excluded, it's likely it will remain that way.
Sorry to "be so negative", but it just seems logical. No one knows for sure, except the magic 8 ball, of course!
UPDATE: If you really want a discount, use the 20% off live.com cashback discount. It's discussed in the HDX18t forum. On a typical 18t, you'll save $400-500!!!! I just did. I'll call HP and cancel the ones that are being built now. That is too much savings to overlook! -
Just got my HDX16
I know most of this included software is junk, but is there anything worth keeping? And what program must I delete in particular to fix the sound? -
-

I got my HDX laptop on October 2, 2008 and my first impression was what an AWESOME looking machine. I setup the OS in about 30 minutes and then of course like any/most other satisfied buyers wanted to play with the machine, and that is when my nightmare started.
The Display looked stunning and I wanted to see the display settings and to my amazement it showed 1366 x 768, I wanted to increase the settings to 1080p but to my disappointment the max resolution this machine had was 1366 x 768 even though I ordered 1080p. I wanted to check other specifications and I clicked on Start and then right click on Computer and the computer went dead. I restarted it and again as soon I right clicked on “Computer” it went dead. I again restarted the machine and this time it allowed me to look under the hood. I then went a head and called the support and they needed a problem ticket opened before they can do anything and transferred me to hp shopping and hp shopping transferred me back to support and support put me on hold and then after 15 minutes or so I was told I need to contact HDX premier support and that the person on the other end will transfer me to HDX support and I was once again on hold for around 20 minutes and then the phone was just silenced. I redialed and talked to HP Shopping and they transferred me to HDX support and they were polite yet not helpful at all. They opened the ticket for me, since I insisted and called HP Shopping back, there response was polite yet non helpful and were unable to rectify problem by replacing it with 1080p laptop with same specs, instead issued a $100 refund for “my inconvenience”.
At this point I did not want to deal with HP and went back to setup my rest of “Awesome looking machine”. Since my HDX has Internal build in TV Tuner I wanted to set it up but each time computer would shutdown, sometimes it would work for 5 minutes and then shuts down and then it would not reboot till I give it a reset for few hours and after some love and tenderness/rest it would work for few minutes. I called HP support again and spoke to someone who after several minutes realized I need to contact HDX support so she transfer the call to HDX support without dropping the call. I spoke to HDX Premier help for around 1 hour and 11 minutes and she was also very polite yet had no idea how to support there product. At one point she suggested "I know more about computers then she does". I told her, you are the expert and just tell me what I need to do to fix the issue and each time I would be put on hold for several minutes.
During this 1 hour and 11 minutes I was on hold for about 1 hour since the lady on the other end was searching the issue through her scripts. I have tried to Recover the HP through HP recovery and now all it does is shuts down during the recovery and now does not even boot up. As soon I have some time and patient with HP “polite” support, I will call them back and return the product.
However, does anyone have any ideas? -
that sucks dallasguy. Doesn't look like you have any other options other than sending it back. I guess the price was too good to be when it was initially released.
-
I'm confused they said they couldnt replace it for one with the proper screen? F that you paid for it, send it back and get the screen you wanted. You paid for it. Also F HP in general, atleast thats how I feel right now....my dv5t died on me day 1, no problems sending it back though they were cool about it. Now I get my hdx16t and it has a scratch on the case and a little knick in the 0 key on the num pad...they say it must of been in shipping but I told them noway for the problem with the keyboard, how can something on the inside get knicked with a protector over it that has not been scratched???
also dallasguy they bounced me around for ever too, one lady offers me a 2 year warranty but says her supervisor will have to ok it, she transfers me and then the person on the phone says they are no supervisor and the wrong department and give me some other # to call and so on and so on, spoke with 6 different people in 1 hour all just apologized and were quiet, kept offering me to exchange it.
HP not on my good list, I got the complaint line # I'm pissed, I was really calm on the phone too I work in customer service I know how it is to get yelled at about something you have no control over, I even told them that, and they just said ok and didnt care about anything.........ahhhhhhhhhh HP -
Jakebeez, I agree with you, it is way too frustrating. I am talking to HDX Premier support right now and I have been on the phone with them for 54 minutes now. While the lady is just keep on talking but she has no idea what to say. I would not have called them, if I have had not done the due diligence before hand. She thinks she is going to send me a recovery CD's now, not sure if that is gonna work since I tried the HP recovery which is build on the hard drive and each time it has failed at the software setup part and then it goes into a loop.
It appears to me this "baby" is going back for good. I just want to wait before I take any action such as having this replaced. OR just go with Apple when and if they make the announcement on October 14 with some good alternative product.
Since I got this HDX on the 2nd of this month I would be within the time frame of returning the product without any stocking fees.
I truly liked the product, only if it can work.
by the way it is now 59 minutes and I am still on hold while this lady is trying to search the issue.
UPDATE:
Stayed on the phone with Mary from HDX primer support and she offered to have the laptop send to factory repair. I did not want that option for brand new laptop which is 5 days old and she offered to call Hp Shopping for exchange and both her and I talked to 3 different reps and the total call time was 3 hours and 9 minutes, however each rep from HP shopping would put us on hold for extend periods of time to get authorization for exchange difference not to mention the RAM specs have changed as well. They will come back with good news and as soon they would start to process the exchange mysteriously they would hangup and we would end up calling them back and starting all over again. With the second person name jason he returned the product and was able to provide me with return label etc, and per Jason he spoke to his Supervisor and had the authorization for even exchange and before he was able to provide me with the coupon he hangup. Mary from HDX support called the 3rd person and we spoke to some one in a different country and he saw the notes and still wanted to know "how can he help me" and I had to explain the whole situation again to him even though he had the notes in front of him, he stalled for 20 minutes or so and stated he is trying to get authorization from his "manager" and by this time I had it with the whole process and I thanked both the rep and HDX support rep for their wonderful service and excuse myself form ever buying any HP products. -
I got my HDX16 yesterday and it seems great so far.
What pre-installed software did everyone remove? I can't decide if things like HP Total Care and HP Web Printing (I don't remember the exact name, but it was close to 100mb in the add/remove program control panel) are completely useless bloatware or is it possible they will be needed.
Also, are you all using the Norton (?) anti-virus software that came with it or are using another solution.
Thanks -
You don't need any of the HP software jsh. Also, i'm sure almost no one in NBR uses Norton as it is a resource hog. Uninstall it with revo uninstaller or something that will completely remove it, I think there is a specific norton uninstaller on their website. Look at the Windows OS and software, under that, go to security and antivirus and look up one to install. I recall Avast, Avira, and.. AVG something... Those are free and work good enough.

Actually- Apple locks their prices when it comes to their brand name stuff in stores- that's mainly why circuit city doesn't give a discount. I used to work there, and I couldn't even get a discount, even as an employee. Which really sucked.
Sometimes, though- Apple does release coupons for their internet store. Doesn't happen all the time, though.Click to expand... -

That's where I worked- Circuit City- and I never got a discount on the 2 Ipods I bought while I worked there. It may have changed recently, though- I left a few months ago.

I got mine recently, and the right-click on the pad doesn't work right out of the box. I talked to technical support and sales rep, it's useless and such a pain.
Wondering if anyone have their system free of defective? Does a lot of people keep this system?
It's a nice looking system but the performance is crappy. I planning to use this for at least 3 years. I'm worried that it won't hold up. -

Hi everyone! I posted this in the HDX thread and was told to post here instead, so here it is:
I just got my HDX16t yesterday, and the first thing I did was to do a clean install.
After reinstalling Vista(32bit), however, I found that the HP site does not provide every driver that the HDX16t needs! And unfortunately I have already deleted the restoration partition...
Such as the finger print reader, the sound card (vista default one works, but want better driver), WebCam, etc. I got the video driver from laptopvideo2go already(version 177.92) so don't worry about that.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but where might I find these drivers? -
They removed the 8G option for the 16t....perhaps the 4G will be making a comeback!
-
Why bother waiting and paying more for it? Memory is very easy to install and cheaper at sites like newegg.com. A 4GB kit will cost you around 80$.
-
Because I don't know how to. And honestly I don't want to even attempt to learn because I'm lazy and I know I'll probably do a bad job.
When I buy a product I'd rather not toy with it when it comes to hardware.
That's just me personally. I hope that doesn't make me a loser or something.
It's just something I don't do. Never have and never will. -
Hello,
Can someone post the new wallpapers provided with hdx16 and hdx18. would be great to have them
thnx -
It's almost as simple as plugging in a USB...

Last but not least wouldn't installing my own drive mean I'd have to reinstall the entire OS?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm still new to a lot of this stuff.
