Well, if she has no idea why it was being held, how can she say it should be here Monday? How does she know it will clear through today if she doesn't even know why it's being held up?

Oh well...at least I have mine to play with! :p

Does anyone know if in the past HP offered any Black Friday deals. If so were they better than what was available pre Black Friday? I'm just wondering should I order now or should I wait until next week.

Rocco, you took the words right outta my mouth. I too am looking to buy and wondering what, if any, deals are to be expected next week?

That is true, but from what I found when googling clearance delay, most take 2-3 days to clear....it's just a nuisance...

My question is, why wasn't the clearance delay done over at Alaska? Wouldn't that make more sense? Why would it start to transfer within the states and then have an issue?

Shouldn't all imports be examined right at the first U.S. soil??

Probably because she's had experience with these matters and knows how long it generally takes for them to clear up?

Just cuz she doesn't know the root cause of the problem doesn't mean she can't give an estimate. Not to mention this whole "delay" started 2 days ago as you pointed out. I would think the entire weekend should be enough time to fix whatever it is that's going on.

I choose to trust her and wait and see what happens on Monday. If it's not here Monday then I'll start to get a lil upset.

    @ vistabad

Yeah I'm disappointed to. I was hoping to get it yesterday or today so I could spend the weekend getting it setup and getting to know it.

WOW I just got my ETA to my doorstep 11/25. So a day after you guys baring no hang ups like yours. Hope fully you clear the way.

Quick question. Couldn't you just add the new quad after the fact? Do you have to buy it with your computer?

You could. The 18t is not easy to take apart. You'd probably need the service manual, which has not been posted yet.

Then, the cost of the QX9300 is somewhere around $1000. There is one on ebay (in Ireland) for about $800...maybe someday, when the prices drop, but by then, there will be something better!

The latest and greatest is always expensive. It's going to be hard to imagine that one day these $800-1000 quads will be in $600 laptops......it's only a matter of time...

Who knows what the next $2500 laptop would be capable of if cheap laptops have quads in them....

I still remember buying my Compaq 1800T back in the days for $2,000....

i am satisified in knowing that as time progresses, you get better technology for cheaper. i have never had such a high end machine and when i got my dv7t, my jaw was on the floor. i spent $1500 like 6 years ago on an HP desktop which is sitting in some junkyard somewhere now... LOL.

so i told myself. from now on, every 2 years, im buying the best laptop i can find. after 2 years, i'll give what i have to my parents or something ;-D

    kegleg ---

i am waiting on my dv4t also - ETA is also the 25th but i expect to have it monday ,tuesday @ the latest. HP shipping is the best. from alaska to your doorstep within a couple of days!

It hurts to see what you spent worthless 2-3 years later doesn't it?

Worthless is too hard of a word, more like unusable, or unable to keep up...

I do my best to balance out my purchases, make them last and just enjoy. Life is too short to save save and save and do nothing with it...so balance/moderation I suppose.... :D

^ exactly! all i do is save save save but i've changed. now where i want to spend, i spend. which is why i went nuts with the dv7t and other things. i also bought the logitech z5500 surround sound system which is insanity!

before my dv7t, i was diehard hater of vista but now i realize that vista is AWESOME if and only if you are running it on gr8 hardware.

having a fulltime career, and being a student fulltime, i have to enjoy something somewhere... so i got this beast of a laptop.

and you're right - if you spend $1500 and keep the unit for a while, after you average out the cost, the figure is very negligable. my $1500 hp lasted 6 years and it works out to like $20/month. LOLOL .

I have a feeling that many of the people on this site do not want to think of Black Friday at this point as they already ordered their units. I just hope someone who has been an HP consumer in the past can say if they will offer any special deals next Friday.

HP extended their return policy for the holiday season so I'm gonna open my 18t which has the T9600 processor and just look at it. Power it on and create Recovery CDs. Test out other stuff and see how fast and powerful it feels.

I"ll wait until Black Friday and Cyber Monday to see if HP releases another 30% coupon or something even better and then if that happens I'll consider getting one with the Quad Core (assuming I'm satisfied/comfortable with the overall size, weight, and feel of the laptop).

But right now I'm not really feel the pull to get a Quad Core. Especially at that price and the fact hat I've have to wait even longer for a laptop. So if by Cyber Monday HP doesn't have some ridiculous sale/deal on the 18t with a coupon or w/e I'm just gonna keep the 18t and switch out the hard drives and memory.

Just finished speaking with HP and they have set up the return and exchange for me to get the Quad I originally ordered!
So, Ryan matched my original price, and I used the 25% live.com (thanks Lancorp for the PM!), so this unit will end up costing me 1,134.
Finally the saga is behind me and the excitement of the Quad before me!
of course until it is in my home, I shouldn't get too excited.

I give Ryan and HP credit for doing the right thing and actually dealing with the CS was not bad at all.. i had feared it would be a nightmare!

Yes! You seem like the type that will keep your equipment for quite some time. $20 a month is very very doable....

Why torture yourself and not have something that you can enjoy? I keep myself healthy and exercise routinely, when I splurge and eat too much pizza or chocolate eclairs, I don't care....

I save save and save for times like this when I see something really nice like the HDX, economy or no economy, it doesn't hurt me to buy this thing.

I feel you will enjoy your laptop for a very long time, and when it's time to spend another $1500-2000 on another laptop, it will do even more amazing things....maybe open wormholes for space travel? :D

Guys, the last time my laptop order came, I had the express delivery option. It never got held up in the chain, and actually arrived 1 day before estimation, and even before FedEx ETA. So I have to assume that's the cost to speed up the shipment, must be more money for custom clearance.

The last laptop I bough 3 years ago, I thought I'd use it 5-7 years... well, the new programs just use so much processing power. I actually manage to prolong my last laptop by 'upgrading' to Vista (custom stipped down). Anyhoo, as I see it now, this thing won't last me 3 years either. One main program I use is already stressing at 80-90% CPU utilization on my P8400. I'd definately look into quad core only if a big fat code comes out.

My desktop Q6600 quad core, came out over 2 years ago at $900+, I bought it for <$200, so let's hope they will come down in price, then we could upgrad the processor a few years down the road and prolong the life of the laptop.

As for SSD, yeah, Intel seems to be the only one with the 80GB, so that's the good news. They should bundle another option for 80SSD + 500GB. I mean, they already have the parts.

It's not a bottle of fine wine!! Room temperature is ok...the drive should be in a sealed bag from newegg, so humidty is not a problem.

put it under your armpits.. body temp is best ;) just kidding.

But seriously, you probably don't know this, it is CRUCIAL you don't get static electricity to either of those items, or any computer related items. Make sure you are grounded. Discharge your body to some big metal object, or heater/water pipes etc... before working with them on your laptop.

Well I'm sorry for the dumb question...just didn't want to damage an item that's worth over $200 of my hard earned money.

I understand you guys are joking but to me this is a serious concern. There's probably a lot of small things or even big things one could overlook that can damage an electrical object/product and seeing as how this is my FIRST time ordering something like this I thought it would be prudent and wise to get some info from an expert...

EDIT: I see your response on the previous page and I thank you for it exe.

Make sure the power is switched off, unplugged, and that the battery is removed before opening up and working on your laptop/desktop. Ground yourself before touching parts. Keep those parts in their baggies, they are special anti static bags.

Don't do the shuffle, that was a joke, only Lancorp can do the shuffle cause he has too many working cores.

Not that I'm looking for validation, but just so you don't think I'm just an a$$, I did answer your question, before exe did in my post about the fine bottle of wine...I said "Room temperature is fine, and keep them in their sealed bags so humidity isn't a problem".

Exe addressed a static electricity concern, which is important, but not an answer to your temperature question...see I can be helpful. ;)

Fedex doesn't deliver on Saturdays correct? Or I hope not since I work this weekend. So I guess the woman was right and it will be here on Monday.

Actually that's right and wrong. It's not a black and white answer. FedEx has a thing called FedEx Home Delivery, which delivers Tuesday through Saturday. FedEx Ground and so on is a regular Monday through Friday schedule.

So yes, they do deliver on Saturdays but only if it's marked as a home delivery item.

I'm obviously not including overnight and express packages as the rules on them differ slightly.

Okay I thought so but then the other guy just brought that up and made me doubt... :(

And to those of you who have used cashback from live before how long does it take them to "cancel" something they don't approve of? Is it right away or not?

I just bought a 360 Pro on eBay and my cashback status is Pending....

Does that mean it went thru all the way and now all I have to do is wait? Or do I need to check back later on to make sure everything is okay?

Well from my previous experience it's going to keep "pending" for awhile. What they say is they have to wait to make sure you don't return the item and that the auction or order or whatever it is went through completely.

For me it is at Newark Airport. So high chances I will receive it Monday...

I would also hold down the power key for 20-30 seconds after the battery is removed. Some laptops have capacitors which will hold a charge after the battery is removed.

Lucky guy. Mine just says that it's finally cleared but it's still in freaking Indiana!

I hope it's here by Monday.
