Have they started Fedex Supersonic service, from Indy?? 10:15AM, Mr. Fedex tests our doorbell. My wife answers the door, signs for the package, inspects the package. "AL, what's this??". "Um, er, oh, "HP finally sent me my new disc". She bought it ... The HDX is her Christmas present. Today, is shopping day. I'll open it, as soon as she leaves.
Al ..

BTW for anyone that cares, it is whisper quiet. Although I haven't really pushed it yet. But it's also sitting on my lap and it is not hot at all, in fact I don't even feel it being warm...
-
Okay, guys. Let's see some pics.
-
-
Or fixing it...on the phone with hp support
-
-
It's heeeerrreeee....

I got this laptop a few days ago and decided to do a clean install of Vista to get rid of bloatware. I was wondering if anyone knows where I could download the HP MediaSmart software for 32-bit Vista. Thanks.
-
All i can say is WOW! Yeah it is huge but it weighs less than it looks. Yeah I agree it is very quiet and there is no heat as of yet. I see no cosmetic issues yet. I haven't done a whole lot as I am working from Home today and have been very busy. But WOW!
-
Today I have to go out and buy my first bluray movie to test this sucker.
I wanted to get WALL-E because that would be a super clean movie but it's not out yet...perhaps I will get Iron Man but I already have that on my iPhone... -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
iron man on regular dvd (not blue ray) is awesome on my dv7t. it's going to be orgasmic on an 18" screen via blue ray ;-D
-
Iron Man is one of them. Pretty much anything sci-fi.....
For anyone here that is a fan of Back to the Future, it will be out Bluray in 2009..... -
Guys, the slot on the left where the remote control goes into, I can't get it out? I push on it and nothing happens. Am I suppose to use a toothpick to pluck it out?
-
sorry nevermind, I pushed it on real hard and it pushed out...I'm a dummy.
I didn't want it to break I thought it was hollowed... -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
yeah, it's funny how hard you have to push on the thing. i used a pen to push it in and pop it out. i leave nothing in there on my dv7t. someone mentioned somewhere that when you leave it blank, it makes the system run a little cooler - and that person was right!
right below there is the hard drive so when that is left blank, the heat generated by the harddrive gets radiated through that opening. -
vistabad Wall-E is out at my Best Buy.
It looks like I'll probably be sending this 18t back. The sound works fine when I attach external speakers to the laptop.
However when there's nothing attached I hear NOTHING. No vista load sounds. Nothing.
I called HP Support and I've been on the line for a while. -
Are you worried about dust getting in there? -
I went to Circuit City this morning, the one that is closing down and they didn't have WALL-E, so I guess that makes sense, I'll go to another store today and pick it up!! -
-
Well I'm sure yours is perfect vistabad. Apparently something is ****ed up with the speakers themselves or the hard drive. Either way I have to get it exchanged. Cuz the sound was fine coming thru headphones and external speakers. Yet from the laptop speakers there was absolutely no sound. Infuriating to say the least.
Which sucks...I'm so furious it's indescribable. And I'm really quite dissappointed. After all this waiting and stuff.
The guy on the other end though is being really nice and not wasting my time so that's a good thing. He actually went thru a few things that might have worked so I appreciate that.
I'm really about to send Ryan another email regarding this whole thing though. It's absolutely ridiculous. -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
im not worried about dust getting in there at all. i keep my desk clean so there is not much dust on there or anything else on my desk. dust is inevitable so i do my part in keeping that area clean. but nah, i dont care if dust gets in.

-
Again, Sorry to hear that, I know how you were waiting for this thing to arrive just like I was. I would be upset to and be on the phone with Ryan...
I am currently burning my recovery disks so after that I will play some music.
It almost sounds like your laptop speakers just aren't fully plugged in. Since there seems to be no driver issues.
I'm sure you don't want to open it up and take it apart but it really sounds like it's a physical cable connection that could have been possibly bumped off during flight... -
-
So at this point I'm really about to just return and exchange the laptop. I'm gonna email Ryan about the whole thing right now.
I'll talk to you guys later. -
VIsta what is the diff between a 16X and 8X DVD-R?
-
That is such a bummer. I just finished making my recovery disks. So I will play with the sound now....
Good luck with Ryan!!! -
I beleive with our bluray drives, you won't be able to obtain the full 16x speeds "writes" just because it's bluray.....the CD's are so cheap now, it really doesn't matter what you get..... -
Well my sound works, I can hear and feel the sub-woofer kicking in. Thank god I was holding my breath!! I'm not sure what else to test really.
I'm waiting for my HDD and RAM to show up today so I can swap them out and really start to load up my apps from my other PC.
I would test the BR drive but I don't have any BR movies... -
-
Oh sorry about that. I'll do that now! -
Well I just sent Ryan a long email. Hope he responds asap.
The guy who was helping me put me on hold while he contacted the Home and Home Office store sales rep.
So the rep comes on and she's a complete *****/nightmare. She wouldn't even listen to me explain what happened. Then she said she had to get approval since I used a coupon when I ordered the laptop. Then she mentioned some crap about having to return and exchange the laptop and that I wouldn't get the money I saved on the laptop for a few days.
So I hung up on her and then I emailed Ryan telling him exactly what happend and what I wanted to happen. -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
i use the remote every single day. and on weekends, when i have the time to watch a movie, i use the remote when i have my dv7t connected to my 42" plasma ;] -
I hope you gave Ryan her info as well? Document everything, hopefully just by proving that you spoke with an idiot HP rep, he will do what he can to help you out...
I know this is not the experience you wanted, who does right? But so far my HDX is great (knock on wood) and it is worth it, hold your breath, suck it in for yet another delay and hope that the next one you get is problem-free...
My HP tablet that I bought last year had a problem, and within 7 days, I got it repaired, no hassle and it came back to me very quickly... -
Do you live in NYC? I am from New York too.... -
It's absolutely beautiful when compared the dv7t in terms of design. It doesn't feel heavy at all to me. It was absolutely silent for the 1 hour or so I was on the phone with the rep. No heat at all.
That's what made the whole thing so frustrating. I had already decided that this was the perfect laptop. And like that I have to be parted from it.
Oh well...
Normally I'd pack everything back up and send it FedEx but since the idiot woman frustrated me so much I decided to not return it yet and wait to see what Ryan says regarding my situation. Especially the coupon part. -

LOL. just copy somes videos and music into your profile's video and music folder. using the remote, press the green media center button then using the arrows navigate the menu. it even has a nice picture viewer/slideshow setup.
yeah, im from nyc - times square to be more specific.
i am old school too but the features are far too nice and easy to use to pass up. i generally dont move to the latest and greatest - just what works for me. but it's nice to lay in bed and change what you're watching on your laptop. in the past, i would get up, change the volume, turn the machine off etc. now i can be lazier.
=] -
-
Here are some pics, I know they aren't as glamorous as the professional HP pics...but I compared the HDX to my tablet....
-
-
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
lol glamourous white carpet!
the media can be in whatever format. i have the same files like you - avi's, mpegs, etc. media center simply reads whats in your video/audio/picture folders. i have not had any issues playing any of my media files with media player.
i will say tho that i have had media center hang about 3 times in the last few months. this is an acceptable failure rate imo. -
I'll give media center a shot. I always figured it would only read certain files so I thought it was restrictive...sounds like fun though! -
BTW, the screen is much brighter than it appears. The flash from the camera drowned out the brightness...
-
I see that Dell has posted their Black Friday deals. Has anyone found or is aware of HP's Black Friday deals yet?
It seems like they should be able to be found someplace by now. Just so they don't loose business to Dell.

I don't know about the hard drive but I think it's the speakers really. And if that's the case then it wouldn't matter what hard drives I have in there right? Plus I wouldn't even know where to begin to fix the issue if it wasn't the speakers/hardware itself.
Anyways I'm going out. I need to take my mind off this stuff. Congrats on the new laptop. -
Again, sorry you have to go through the hassle...hope Ryan comes through for you... -
I just got 15 of these babes. They are all on ebay, selling $$$ less than what ebay charges. One of them will be mine.
-
Just stopped by the local Sears and picked up Hellboy 2.
Wanted to make sure BR worked and it does. I really like the HP Media player or whatever it's called, very clean and smooth to work with.... -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
yeah, the quickplay player. sure it's not as optioned as many other players (windvd comes to mind) but it's not bad.
ps - did you go to the sears by queens center? ;-D
