Okay so I can now purchase the HDX 18t...
This what I'm gonna get on it. I'll take final opinions and then make my decision. Keep in mind I've already bought two 320GB 7200 rpm hard drives as well as 1 4G memory unit from Newegg
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Processor QX9300 (2.53Hz)
- 18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
- 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
- 500GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (250GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
- Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
- HP Color Matching Keyboard
- Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
- Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- No Productivity Software
Lancorp or any others who have the quad core are your HDXs running cool? Are they quiet? Or does the quad make them a little louder or something?

Seems good to me with the add-ins you already purchased. What is your ultimate price going to be on this (not counting the 4GB RAM and 320GB drives)?
Regarding fans and noise, my QUAD's fans are regularly turning on and off. Others with the Dual Cores say their fans never come on. But, I have my Vista set at maximum performance, so I think the CPU's are running full blast all the time (which I prefer). -
Also as far as Bluetooth and Lightscribe. They are bumping my purchase over my credit limit. Are those 2 things really important. I mean I know Bluetooth can come in handy if you're not in a wireless hotspot or w/e but I rarely am.
Anyways if I remove those 2 things I can order right now. If not I've got to wait and pay off a bill real quickly before I can place my order otherwise it won't go thru.
EDIT: And no one has found where to order that special adapter to get a 2nd hard drive right? The only reason I'm getting the dual 250 is because it will already be in there and make things much simpler when it comes time to replace the hard drives. -
Anybody else having trouble with the cashback link? It keeps getting me to an error page. I hope I'm not the only one.....
-
-
Well I thought that too, but I was up earlier and still nothing.
-
-
I've been trying as well. It keeps taking me to an error page. I'll post as soon as I get through. My guess is that they are late updating the site.
-
Here's what's interesting. In the BIOS, it is set for the fan to ALWAYS be on. I simply don't hear anything though. I have a pretty good ear for things as well as OCD when something bothers me and you will not have to worry about ANY fan noise, at least if you get the HDX with C2D...
As for Bluetooth, I took that option out. My other laptops have bluetooth and I never use it. The BT software also adds another service which uses CPU/MEM resources. I know I know, that is nitpicking but hey, it's something that you can eliminate.
The BT is not used for Wifi at places like Starbucks or McD's. You can use your wireless card to access the internet from those places.
For you BT, would be used for gaming or headsets that support BT....
As for lightscribe, again, same thing with me, I don't care for lightscribe. It seems like a gimmick to me. Unless you can print colorful high quality images on CD, then I really don't care for the black/white gritty print quality that it has. Plus you have to go out of your way and BUY lightscribe CD's, you can't use any old CDR/DVDR media... -
It might be time to accept Vista?? -
with that name how can you make such a statement
vistabad-bad! -
I used the cashback link early when it was recently posted and it went through, however, I am just about to purchase it. Considering the error everyone is receiving, would this make the cashback void?
And.. Does cashback have a limit? I really hope it doesn't.

Plus, I use my Verizon PDA phone as a broadband modem for my notebook over the BT, so no cables needed. -
Has anyone been able to get in from the "live" cashback site to HP starting at 7 a.m. pst? I know you can get into the HP site but the cashback site keeps giving me an error. Is there a phone number available that I can call about the Live cashback problem?
--Rocco-- -
Rocco, I got in around 9AM ET time. I can't seem to get in right now, though, but I am still logged into my session. I hope cashback goes through, does anyone think I should wait until this problem is fixed?
-
And, I think live.com is down or just overwhelmed with traffic. Even any clicks to live.com cashback sites aren't working, let alone HP.com. -
It said 40% on the page after you click the cashback link.
I have a question, how can you tell if the live cashback went through? Does it show on your live cashback 'pending' tab instantly? -
I know....
I want you to enjoy your HDX rather than fight with it.... -
Having said that, I'm wondering if I should go into HP.com now, select my configuration, save it and exit. Then when Live cashback comes up I can go through that site and just reload my saved selection and checkout. I hope this would not not violate the cashback rules using a saved configuation.
Is there a phone number we should call to complain about the Live cashback? -
Hmm.. I'm going to wait, even though it said 40%.
I also have that question, can I use a configuration previously saved? -
I'd go back and try to dig but Im on the road so to speak. -
Looking forward to Windows 7 though.
watched some features on youtube and they look really fun...and Win7 will RUN on Netbooks... -
I've been trying to get into Live Cashback for 1 hour and 30 minutes with no luck. At least if I heard of others getting in once the 40% off offer started at 10:00 am est I would feel it's up. I'm calling HP now as I type this to see if they can tell me what is going on.
--Rocco-- -
i hear you vistabad, but i do alot of audio recording, and djing, and these things are very buggy at the start, as of this moment most of the software providers are all saying the same thing,
"xp rock solid reliable, vista should have no problems, vista 64 will have at least some issues"
so don't worry about me brother, while I am having fits of rage and the loud hollering of what rotten thus and such those morons at MS/HP are for making this so difficult. I still have time to caress her and have her tell me about the rabbits. -
OK HP did not know the Live Cashback site was down. I'm on the phone with them trying to contact someone who can do something about this. Does anyone know of other links that can get to this site. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post the link here.
-
Yars, I am doing xp32 sp3 on hdx18t 1020us
Currently re-installing xp to try the video again.
Just tell me the precise order of events you used, unless you didn't try 32 bit yet. -
Since I just don't have the energy anymore to fight Vista, I let it win. I will learn to comply to its rules and features. I am a lost XP soldier.. -
Ella at HP says this is not their problem.
-
I noticed something about the touchpad.
I think whatever coating HP used over the entire notebook, is the same for the touchpad. If you close your eyes and use the surface area outside of the touchpad, either to the left or write where the stickers are, you will see that the feel is exactly the same.
So it seems like they just made one quick coat over the entire thing during production.
Now, if you feel the 2 buttons on the touchpad, they are smoother because I'm sure the buttons came in later...
If the touchpad moved as quickly as the buttons, I wouldn't mind.
I'm living with the way the touchpad is now, but sometimes my OCD kicks in and it bothers me. Other cheap laptops have much quick and smoother feel on their touchpads.. -
Rocco, I also contacted them. They said the same exact thing to me, "The cashback is not a promotion of HP." They gave me Microsoft's support line, hopefully it will be up soon.
-
What was the number they gave you for Mirosofts support line?
--Rocco-- -
1-800-642-7676
-
I have been trying for about 2 hours (on a 6MBps DSL with nothing else running) with IE and Firefox and all I get is the "Request Timeout" error.
I wanted to reorder my HDX with the 40% and return my 5 day old one for full refund. With the savings I can go from 4 to 8GB. -
Any word on the cashback?
-
-
Now I get the "Oops" page after clicking the 40% cashback link.
-
it looks like microsoft is handling the problem. Cashback is functional again, however, the HP cashback link is still down, but it looks like they are doing something, at least.
-
Just out of curiosity, has at least one person gotten through in the past 3 hours?
-
I got the 40% offer before the set time for the offer (just before 7PST), so just out of precaution I'm waiting for the 40% offer to be fixed.
-
It's the "Evil Empire" after all. -
Is it just me or has HP removed the SSD option once again?
-
Still trying.
Cannot get past the "oops" page. -
Frecking Microsoft wasting half my day.
Luckily I can watch the extras from Dark City DC at the same time. -
I guess I should be relieved that at least one person got through. Somewhat.
-
-
I feel I wasted a ton of time. Microsoft should just post a message that they are having a problem and that they will extend the promotion so at least the site will work for 12 hours no matter when it starts.
--Rocco-- -
In my case I used the 30% coupon and it would be about $300.
As I am doing stuff at the same time, it is not that bad a deal.
I also ordered an Onkyo 876 AV receiver from newegg. -
Oh yea definitely. That's why I said "should". I don't expect a huge billion dollar company to put its customers ahead of it's bottom line. And having the cashback down for 5-6 hours, but work for the other 6 hours, will still bring millions of clicks to HP's links. If it works anything like any other sponsored search listings, HP is paying for each of those clicks.
