Nice , might want to look at the acer 1

    http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15691/71/

radeon hd 3200 with 384 megs of dedicated ram and up to 2gigs of shared memory would make for a fast system. It has two dimm slots so you could really do 4x4 and get 8 gigs of ram.

    5 hours on a 6 cell.

Hook up an XGP with a dx 11 radeon 5x00 to the unit for some gaming ? Might be a good investment if it comes with the xgp
450pounds might be a bit much , but if they can bring it to the states without the ferrari crap at $400 it be a good run for the mini 311's money.

    there is some video here
    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/09/14/acer-ferrari-one-netbook-on-video/

I'm still interested in this. I'm planning on getting one for me and my sister. Its mainly for productivity (Office, Photoshop, etc) and as a companion for our laptops. Only reason why I held off on a netbook was because of Flash support, and watching movies and anime. I figured having the Ion GPU would help out. Also it wouldn't hurt to do light gaming on it (My laptop does a decent job of running games I play).

Sorry i'm kind of late to the game. I too ordered mine on the sept. 23rd with standard 5-7 day shipping. I received an email saying the item had shipped on sept. 30th. fed ex just picked up the package yesterday with an estimated delivery of oct 12th. I will be requesting a shipping refund if i don't have it by oct. 9th. This is completely unacceptable. Where has my $500 machine been for the last five days? Not on it's way to me that's for sure.

mine is out for delivery today....2 days ahead of estimated time...guess living near a DC Airport has some advantages...

hope someone will sign for it at home...though I'm not sure I am going to open it up...have to look in towards the return policy before I do

It was until I saw that you were actually going to attempt to defend your statement instead of simply resorting to name calling.

And that's fine if you don't want to talk to me -- doesn't hurt my feelings :)

Mine is out for delivery as well. Fedex has always been a good shipper, with the exception of their 'ground' service, which is essentially contracters. I won't know much about it until tonight when I get home from work. Maybe one of the other guys can fill us in should be be able to open it up before I do.

I ordered the n270 because the n280 is not overclockable. or at least it sucks at it. While i dont plan on superclocking i would like it to run at 1.9 an bump up the FSB. I had the asus n10j and the screen ruins it. Im sorry but in todays world 1024*768 just doesnt cut it anymore

The N10J was ruined for me by the bezel. They could have fit a 11.6" screen in there instead of the 10" they did. It looks funny and cheap because of that.

My mini 311 came in at 10:30 this morning on the dot. I havent gotten to do much yet but I do have an answer for you all.

I opened up the bottom to check what was inside and yes the ram slot is empty! The 1GB is soldered on.

There is also a mini PCI-express slot that is empty because I didnt want the broadband card. Perfect fit for a SSD drive.

Heres a couple pics to show you whats going on.

    NICE. Would it be wiser to go with a 1GB RAM for dual-channel (1GB + 1GB), or should I go with a 2GB (2GB + 1GB)?

DOES this mean that we can add 2gb more. or just confirms that its there. do you plan on testing the dimm.

It depends if the chipset supports dual channel or not. It also depends if it is memory bandwidth starved in its current form.

The only way to know this will be to test it... I *might* test this, it just means a trip to microcenter.

I am upping to windows 7 when I get my machine, so I am just gonna stick in another 2 GB since I believe it'll go faster than dual channel. (From just personal experience with Win7 placing a large portion of RAM on standby)

still wanna see someone shove a 2 gb stick in the extra RAM slot to make sure its wired up :)

I am not certain of this... It depends on the way CPU-Z reports. I have a feeling it is running at 666 instead of 1333. I hope I am wrong... Only reason I think I am wrong is because I checked the scores with my DDR3 in my desktop system and it shows at 800Mhz, and it is really running at 1600Mhz, which means 800 x 4 = 3200Mhz, not the case... So again, I have a feeling this memory is only running at 666Mhz.

i thought that too i got like 19999 cause it said cpu multiplier 6x which would yeild 20000mhz... no way so i did some searching on google and found it is roughly 1333 we would get 666 or a lil more cause its showing cpu current speed 10000 mhz

It's only got 1GB of RAM, so that doesn't surprise me. Still not good, though. Wonder what 7's boot time will be.

The netbook average is 55 seconds though? Hmmm...

Trying to get this SSD installed... Hehe, this thing is being a major pain. Attempting to use WinSetupFromUSB 0.1.1 and am getting the lovely hal.dll is missing... Hmm, attempting to recopy the I386 information back to the flash drive and will keep trying.

I did try LOTRO, but because HP loaded this up with some crapware (Norton) it ran choppy. I believe it was due to the constant loading and unloading of the textures.

I am hoping with a good clean SSD install, and another 1-2GB in here that I will be able to report back with some good news. But for now, getting this SSD installed is being a pain.

Mainly for use with LOTRO. LOTRO does a ton of texture loading and unloading, more so than any other game. I used this SSD as my app drive for my desktop, but am more than willing to use it in my netbook.

I love to know more about the quality of the screen from anyone who has the machine already... Does it have light leakage, how are the colors/brightness, overall are you happy with it? I have a sony 13.3 laptop with a LED screen and it's amazing.. the only bad thing is the resolution to size ratio..

Saint Paul, Minnesota. I paid for two day Fedex. Nice thing about Fedex is that delivery early if they can. They don't wait like UPS to deliver on the day. I suppose there are disadvantages to that though, such as scheduling time off of work to sign for a package or something.

The 720p video was slightly choppy during fast moments when I first got the netbook. After removing Norton and disabling most of the startup programs and doing windows update the video runs smoothly. Also installed K-Lite for better codecs.

    Video testing with is WOWX3-Cataclysm_Trailer_enUS_ESRB.avi

    Installing COD4 atm.
