I got this laptop from Micro Center a couple of weeks ago. I absolutely love it. IMO, it's the perfect combination of reasonable cost and power. I even upgraded it a little by buying another 16GB RAM stick and swapping out the 1TB HGST 7200RPM drive for a 1TB WD Blue. It positively flies now. I noticed that since the BIOS update, I haven't really noticed super hot temps or thermal throttling, even though I didn't undervolt it. Temps maxed out at @90C per XTU benchmarking. I've been leery of pushing it because of reports of excessive heat, but maybe HP did a good job of applying thermal paste on my unit.

I only have one gripe about this laptop. I tried to install FuzeDrive on it since it comes with a 256GB SSD and a 1TB HD, but it won’t install. FuzeDrive won’t install on anything but an AHCI drive, and it considers the Intel controller to be a RAID controller. The BIOS does not have a means of switching to AHCI, so don’t buy FuzeDrive for this laptop.

My particular unit has pretty much no bleed on it that I can see. If you’re looking to do photo work on it though, the color accuracy is, to put it bluntly, crap. It looks fine if you’re killing cultists with Peaches and Cheeseburger though. I’ll have to get back to you with MSI AB thermals because I have to install it. I ran XTU, Cinebench and 3DMark benchmarks and didn’t see temps over 90C per HWInfo.

Is anyone having scrolling issues with the touchpad? When I use 2 finger scroll, it tends to jump the opposite direction every few scrolls. I tried tweaking drivers and sensitivity settings but it didn't help. I'm still within my 15 days at MC and I'd like to figure out if it's a hardware issue or not.

I'm thinking of getting this model but haven't owned a gaming laptop before. What are the average cpu and gpu temps of gaming laptops? How are the thermals of this compared to other gaming laptops?
Thanks -
I figured out my battery issue but my Wi-Fi cuts out every few minutes and then I have to reestablish the connection. It'll say it's technically connected but it isn't loading anything. I guess I have to update the driver but I don't understand how to do that.

I'm actually not sure to be honest. I somehow believe it has something to do with the fact that I went and updated the 1060 driver directly from the Nvidia site. Games ran buttery smooth after that and I didn't have the "laptop plugged in but not charging" message again. Still working on WiFi problem. Freaking PCs are so confusing. I feel like my 70 y.o. Mom when she calls me to ask how to shut down her MacBook. Thank goodness for this forum and the internet or I'd just be sitting here with a brick.

When you customize the omen 15 on HP's website there is an section for the keyboard in-between the Battery and Networking sections with the option of choosing
Full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and N-Key Rollover (Dragon Red Legend)
or
Full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and N-Key Rollover (White Legend)
What is the difference?
Would people happen to know which builds come with which AC adapter. From looking at some models it seems 1050 IT come with 150 watt ac bricks and 1060 come with 200 watt ac adapters. Wondering what adapter would come with the 1050, 1060 Max-Q, and the 1070 Max-Q? -
where can i find hp omen 15 with
gtx 1060
15" 144hz? -
Antonis
Try to get it from hp.com, make sure to choose the 2 hinge laptop picture not the CE version with 1 hinge you will not get the 144hz option. And owl2018 discount code cannot be applied BTW.

Greetings. I just ordered 'HP Omen 15-DC0051nr Gaming Intel i7-8750H 16GB 1TB+256GB SSD GTX 1060 6GB'
I await it's arrival in early September.
Questions:
- SSD type, is it NVMe?
- SSD type is 2280?
- Is it possible to easily remove the base cover to upgrade?
- Memory, upgradeable to 32GB?
- Memory type? DDR-2666?
I am thinking to insert Samsung's SSD 970 EVO 1TB which I currently have in Intel's Hades Canyon. -
-
Yes it is very easy to open the back panel and memory is upgradable to 32gb and is ddr4 - 2666.
You can insert that 970 EVO, there is no issue.

I checked in Crystal disk that the oem ssd is using pcie x2 interface. Can anyone confirm whether this laptop supports gen 3 x4?

Hello.. can anyone confirm the model of the nvme ssd especially of the UK 1070 Model.. is it samsung or toshiba?

Can anyone of you OWNERs confirm Battery live especially with 144hz panel?
I read that there might be a way in NVIDIA driver to use Intel GPU instead to extend running time when not gaming. -
-
Hello. Has anyone tried to order the 144hz panel and cable as a spare and installed? I am hoping to do this.
Thanks, -
- While using office (word, excel, power point... etc) at 75% brightness - Around 4 and a half hour (battery saver was on)
- Web surfing and youtube (in chrome) at 75% brightness - 4 hours (battery saver was on)
- Gaming (Assassin's creed Origins and Watch Dogs 2) at 100% brightness - somewhere around 40-50 mins (reaches around 80-85 degree Celsius cause my room temperature was near about 25 degrees)
- Ideal condition with screen on and 50% brightness - 5 hours.15 min (battery saver was on)

I'm still deciding between this and the thinner Gigabyte Aero 15xv8 that is thinner and more business with better battery life, but also more expensive. -
Otherwise HP omen is a good as well. I don't have any complaint with this laptop and it was the only thing in my budget. -
Gs65 no SDcard reader and worse battery, but great design, not to shure about keyboards yet as my lenovo is quite good.
Asus no LAN and not battery at all.
U forgot razor -
Not everyone uses SD card and it is a minor issue as one can always use an SD card reader (not very costly). Battery is not worse. Check again.
ASUS zephyrus M have option to switch between dedicated GPU and integrated Intel HD chip so you can get an average battery life on that laptop (as it contains a full 1070, not the max-q design).
Again, LAN isn't a requirement for everyone in their laptop. And if anyone needs it rarely, thunderbolt 3 to lan isn't costly at all.
Razer is way costly, so until and unless someone mention their budget for that, i would never suggest to go for it. -
Guys it's on sale right now on HP on their US site you get
15% off orders $899+ with code 15GAMER
20% off orders $1,399+ with code 20GAMER
25% off orders $1,799+ with code 25GAMER

Somewhat disappointed in the IFA this year for laptops, suppose manufactures are waiting on the 2xxx mobile cards to come out before releasing new models. I was hoping the Lenovo Y730 might be an option but seems the price will be quite high and nothing confirmed for higher than a 1060 at this moment in time. Considering the likely cost of these new 2xxx cards as well i'm looking to pick up this omen 15 1070 version as not much else around at this price with the narrow bezels/ good 144 IPS/thunderbolt etc.
Only query I have is the single stick 16GB Ram situation. Lots of opinions on whether much difference in fps when 'limited' to 1080p with dGPUs (excluding iGPUs). Can anyone suggest a recognised brand of 16GB Ram stick to buy to allow proper duel channel functionality with the 16GB ram already in situ? Has anyone tried this themselves, or just bitten the bullet and bought a 8GBx2 kit and sold the 16gb stick? Thanks for any advice. -
Does anyone know whether the m.2 port supports 4lanes or 2 lanes?

I had brief chance to see the OMEN 15 today with the nice 144hz display. It looked brighter than on the msi ge63. Keyboards are both good to type on.
OMEN by HP 15-dc0006ng (15,6 Zoll / Full HD IPS 144 Hz) Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i7-8750H, 1 TB HDD + 512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB G-SYNC, Windows 10 Home 64
And was wondering how much better the 1070 Gpu is and if the price justifies this.
Omen by HP 15-dc0008ng (15,6 Zoll / Full HD IPS 144Hz) Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i7-8750H, 512 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB, G-Sync, Windows 10 Home 64)
I believe both models ship with max q gpu -
About the performance, GTX 1070 max-q performs around 5%-15% (depending on the the type of work/load) better than 1060. Also 1070 max-q generates lesser heat than 1060 (but non of those heats up as much as i7-8750H).
I have the 1060 model as, for my country, I didn't feel its worth paying around $300 more for only 5%-10% more performance.
HP Omen 15 - dc0051nr (new to market) i7 8750h + gtx 1060 thin bezel!
