Hi all - I just want to echo the appreciation others have expressed about the helpfulness of this site and all of you guys who have been willing to take the time to answer questions and post information. I don't know what I would have done with my Vista upgrade install without you! Thanks Jadedraver for filing a complaint to BBB - I have signed your petition!

But I have looked through all the posts and don't see anything new about the microphone issue. I have resolved all my other problems (webcam , video, sound works etc.) but am not able to record sound or use Skype. Any ideas when a driver might be coming to resolved this? Or are there any others fixes that have worked?

    Thanks so much!

good posts, keep up the good work!!

I think this is the reason I wont be upgrading XP to Vista once my dvd's come in...just way to much of a headache....too bad there wasnt one specific rar file for specifc models for what needs to be updated.

Assuming you're using the XP Waikiki driver in Vista, the microphone should work, but it isn't selected by default when you installed the driver.

You'll need to go into Control Panel, Sound, Recording tab. After installing the XP driver, the "Sum" device would be selected by default. You'll need to select the "Microphone" device and click the "Set Default" button, setting the Microphone as the default device. Once you do that, you should start to see the level meter respond as it picks up sound. Once that's done, you're all set.

i have a dv6095ea, and im running windows vista home premium, i did all the latest driver updates quickplay 3 and all, and more or less it workds fine. But periodically the cam refuses to work, it did it a few times, i dont think iv changed anything. To get it to workagain i have to uninstall then re install the driver .I did it like 3 times so i made a system restore point to a point where it was fine.Im beginning to suspect skype of grabing the camera and not releasing it> I use skype but not for cam, also msn messenger and camfrog. If anyone has had a similar problem id be interested to hear,

also there was a post b4 about the mik,l the mike on mine is working ,but its too quiet and noisy to be any use, i turned it up all the way,but its really a waste f time as no one can hear what u say unless u shout, so im back to using my headset

Thanks so much, Dynamius!!!! My microphone actually works now, though seems a little faint - but hey, I'm happy with anything at this point. I had just assumed that the Sum device was the one I should be using. Now I can limp along until the real driver comes out.

Newbie here. Bought my HP Pavilion dv9233cl notebook with Vista Home Premium less than a week ago.
I've tried a search of this thread for my problem with no luck. The problem is:
I have a home network with two printers attached physically to my Dell Desk top (both printers are older HP's, a laserjet 4P and a Photosmart 2410xi). While I can find the network from the Pavilion, I CANNOT FIND OR USE THE PRINTERS from the Pavilion :( . Both my desktop and an older laptop on my network are running the MS XP OS and I can print from both. I've called HP twice and have gotten two totally different suggestions (including purchasing a new warrenty for my out-of-warrenty photosmart--I know it is not a printer problem, but the person on the other end of the phone, half way across the world, could not understand this). I've seen a few other discussion forums with some ideas but nothing positive yet. I hope this forum or another thread on this forum can help me. Should I contact MicroSoft directly perhaps?? Thanks for any help.

    It appears not.

Not yet...we're waiting on better HP drivers.

Go into Control Panel > Sounds > Recording, you can configure the mic there. Turn up the recording level as far as you want. :D

Not yet, and we're not sure if there's going to be one.

    Hope that helps a bit!

Bill, Yup another gramps (twenty years ago when email handles were becoming the rage, and my daughter presented me with my first grandson, my son-in-law immediately gave me the "gramps" appellation--so that's how I am now known in cyber space.).
No, I did not update my printer drivers for VISTA. I'll go to your recommended site and see what I find. I've found many suggestions now and they vary all over the board. So I may try the simplest first (like avoiding disabling firewalls which some have suggested, etc.). Thanks for the reply.

one of my friends just bought a dv2000 with vista preinstalled. i was gonna check her computer once school starts back up on monday to see if she can change the quick launch button, and to see if her volume controls show up on the screen. i'm not sure if she has a webcam, but if she does ill make sure to check to see how they work on the preinstalled vista's.

as for the mic, thats my biggest concern right now. rest of the other problems i am having are mearly minor inconviences. i tried the volume thing in the control panel but it still doesnt work! im not able to record or even use my bluetooth audio set up. anyone else know what the problem might be or are experiencing the same problems?

    thanks!

So... anyone that has solved their webcam problems, could you give me a hand? I posted this a couple of weeks ago but the problem remains:

The cam will still work with Muvee and Quickplay, but MSN will crash whenever I try to setup/use the webcam and Skype says it doesn't find any installed webcams.

what I find weird is that, even if the cam is listed in the vista device manager (as HP Pavillion Webcam) I can't see it in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Scanners and Cameras

1 and 2, I don't believe there's a fix for yet. The quickplay buttons are currently locked in Vista. Hopefully, HP will eventually bring back the control panel to let you change them. I haven't really looked into the onscreen volume. You might try the HP "OS enhancements" (which I hope is linked in the first post) and see if that brings up the on-screen volume.

    3. Go into sound options, then recording, and make sure the built-in mic is selected as the recording device. It's not selected as the recording device by default.

    4. You can use Quickplay 3 to take snapshots off of the webcam. There's other third-party apps that work as well, but I'm not really familiar with them.

I can't find the new drvier on Windows Update... but you're the second one to mention it. I wonder if it's only available in Vista-64 (which I got rid of temporarily to get sound). Either way, it may just be the generic Microsoft driver updated. So far nothing new on the HP FTP site, but I'll keep looking.

Sharing printers between machines running different versions of Windows is a pain -- but usually it's possible. Search for your printers over the network (your network may need to be made private to see other machines and printers) and when you find them, you can try to install the Vista printer drivers, but often those will fail as they don't correctly "match" the XP printer drivers that are installed on the directly-connected machines. If that's the case, try installing the XP drivers for the printers into Vista. It's not an ideal solution, but in most cases it works. Post again with a more detailed description of how you're trying to install the printers and what errors you're getting, if you're still running into problems.

I think it's a known problem with QP3. There's a new update out for QP3 that you might grab to see if they've fixed it yet.

    Glad we could help.

As for the mic issue, it depends what driver you are using. If you're using the Microsoft driver (under Vista-32 or Vista-64), then the mic issue doesn't have a solution that I know of. If you're using the HP XP driver (under Vista-32) you may just need to assign the built-in mic as the recording device -- for some reason the driver doesn't do this by default.

Go into Control Panel --> Sound --> Recording tab, and select the option for the buil-in mic. You can test it from this panel also. You will likely need to use the "mic boost" option to pick anything up even remotely well, and even then, it seems too quiet to me.

    Hope that helps.

As far as I know, the Quicklaunch buttons are the ones that make the mute button work, and not the audio driver.

Do you have the most recent drivers installed for the Quicklaunch buttons? They're at version 6.10c. Mute button works here and illuminates properly...

The mute button is tied to the audio driver (possibly the Quickplay buttons too, but definitely the audio driver). The only way to make the button work in Vista right now is to use the old XP audio driver.

on a side note, i tried to upgrade my quickplay to v.3908 and once it finishes downloading, and i try to install it...it says that this program will only install on an hp machine. wierd?

That link only refers to the 64bit version, but there's probably a 32bit version in the driver pages. Maybe some of the driver issues will finally be addressed.

EDIT: Welcome to the forums VolkerD!

my webcam problem returned again, randomly it refuses to work, im using sp34746 , what happens is it appears like its not plugged in in some applications, in the quickplay 3 it just come up as black, but its the built in cam in mydv6095ea, running vista home premium.
its the kind of problem if it was a external cam unplugging it and plugging it back in would fix restarting the laptop dosent seem to cure it , but reinstalling the driver and restarting seems to get it back,is there an easier way of doing this
some way i can get the pc to redetect it?
the setup wizard in msn messenger tels me"windows cannot connect to this webcam.Close any program that may be using this device and restart this wizard"
camfrog-the hp pavillion webcam is just greyed out

also re my earlier post about qt3 recording video double speed, there was mention of a update , i have yet to find the hp ftp, so i dont know where to look for it, i got the last link from an earlier post.If somone could point the way id be thankfull

kinda regretting updating from xp-was all working fine b4, serves me right for wanting to be cool lol

I did this accidentally but it fixed all of my problems with 32-bit vista:

First I updated the drivers to Vista - no change
Second I noticed that Hibernate was missing from the power options so I searched the Help and Support and re enabled it again and put my machine in Hibernate (Not Sleep).
Third - when I woke it up from hibernate it took awhile and made the screen jump around and seemed a little buggy so I changed it back to sleep. Then I accidentally touched the Quickplay button and it launched. Then noticed the mute button changed colors again when pressed.

Like I said I found this fix completely accidentally. Fixed my sound & mic problems too. My machine is running like a dream after upgrading to Vista.

Jaded, I was wondering why there will not be a driver coming for this device? I bought my laptop less then 6 months ago (Hp Pavillion DV8135nr) and I have the same device ID as the previous post. The only thing I am wondering is that HP keeps giving me the "run-around" about drivers, but you seem sure that none are coming for my notebook. My notebook has one of those infamous "Compatable with Vista" stickers on it, and on the HP website is listed as a Vista compatabile notebook. So I was wondering if HP is just blowing smoke up my !$$ about the driver or if you know something about this specific device ID that HP is not willing to tell me?

    Thanks!

P.S. Have sound right now through the previous Audio File post... just have to hit F8 everytime the computer boots to disable driver signing!

Wow, I spoke with really unusual certainty. It was probably because I had been talking with Conexant about driver issues and they seemed to not care about supporting any non-current codecs. Anyway, I'm glad that driver worked for you (at least somewhat), and it does look like a driver has been posted that is digitally signed -- and by HP no less. It looks like a driver has bewen posted by HP (and linked by VolkerD) that may be compatible with your sound chip. It's posted at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-47663-1 and says it's for Conexant AC-Link codecs so it may work on your machine. It's may be the same exact driver you are using now, but it's digitally signed so you can avoid the boot-up annoyance.

I didn't realize that the dv8000 series were sold so recently when I responded before. HP has kind of an all-or-nothing support system for Windows Vista, and I thought that series was only sold prior to the support date. Sorry about the confusion. I double-checked the official HP Vista Supported Notebook List and your is definitely on it.

Has anyone been able to fix this problem yet?

    'Hello,

I got a new laptop with windows vista 32bit ultimate..

I'm having a very annoying problem. After windows loads... About a full minute passes and the whole screen flickers black for a second, then back to normal. When this happens the mouse cursor is also repositioned to the center of the screen.

    Any ideas?

My video card is a geforce go 7900 and im running the latest drivers. I took just about everything out of startup in msconfig. It happens in with aero... or with the basic theme.

    Please help!

    Thanks. '

    I have a HP Pavilion DV2224EA

    Cheers

HP has released a bios update for Vista 32 but not for Vista 64 for the dv5040. Is there anyway to make it work with 64?

I got a quick question for Jade or whoever. That "imporant" Bios update on the front page, is it really important? I am dual booting XP and Vista, and its all running just fine. Is there something that will be fixed or be made better by this update? Im just a little worried that this is break something that is working now. Thanks for any insight guys!!!!!

Technically, the new BIOS is meant to make your system more compatible with Vista. It is not supposed to break anything anyway.

I'm sure this problem was covered before but I can't seem to find anything on it.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6200 CTO that came with vista basic which I clean installed Vista Ultimate on. So far everything works fine except for the webcam. I have driver version 6.1001.101.0 which should be the latest driver. The problem is the webcam will work fine every time I turn on the computer but after a while, if I try to use the webcam again, all I get in Quickplay is a black screen and if I use MSN I get a message saying the webcam can't be initialized because another program is use it. Any ideas?

Im pretty sure its just the drivers kicking in. Hopefully they will invent better drivers in the future but my desktop with XP does that all the time so it doesn't bug me.

    On a side note..
Why doesn't HP release any drivers for my Geforce Go 7200? I want official ones not the hacked ones...

    Hi, everyone.
I did upgrade my Windows XP to Vista, my notebook is HP pavilion dv1670EA
I can't get sound working, nothing seems to help. I did contact HP, they send me link to download driver. When i try to install it says
Driver Installation Failed:could not find the Media device for this driver.
What shall i do? Shall i wait untill HP brings new driver for HP dv1000 series, shall just give up-get rid of Vista. I like it so much.
    Please HELP

Check your audio device to see if it is a Conexant Waikiki chipset. If it is, you are out of luck, HP is not doing too much at this point to supply the proper driver to Vista unless Anna from the other thread says otherwise.

HP knows that the Conexant chipset does not work properly in the default Microsoft HD Audio Device Driver, but they aren't doing anything to amend the problem. If you file a BBB complaint, HP won't do anything about it either.

    Don't buy HP next time.

touringman -- Assuming it's a Conexant audio codec, for now all you can do is try the XP driver for your machine. It will likely work, though it isn't an ideal solution.
