Hello, I have a pavillion dv5184ea and I want to upgrade do windows vista. From all I could read there are no major issues about the upgrade except with the sound. I have a conexant high definition audio (DEV 5047). My questions are:

    1. What version of the drivers should I download or install for my sound? (please give me the link)
    2. What version of drivers is correct to my quick launch bottoms?

Ps: Are there any other problems that I should know with the upgrade of my model?

    Thank you

Your notebook should have come with a Windows anytime upgrade CD in a thing case. You can use this to do a clean install. Directions can be found here

my notebook comes with no windows anytime upgrade cd, but windows anytime upgrade already installed (in control panel), can i use it? so i could get my vista installation cd?, my plan is to downgrade using XP (anyone already tried XP 64bit on dv2000t?) and make dualboot (XP and open solaris)

    thx

Is there a all-in-one driver pack for a dv6000 machine? What would be needed?

    Thanks

Without the anytime upgrade DVD, you would need to get ahold of a standard Vista OS install disc. My understanding from others who've tried is that the standard OS disc will accept the OEM keys used to install Vista on your machine. I don't have a way to personally test this, though, so that's just the reports of others. You also should have a recovery partition that can make a restore DVD or DVDs that can be used to reinstall... but you'll get all the bloatware, too.

As for XP x64, it just recently became possible thanks to the new audio drivers having 64-bit versions -- but it should definitely be doable now.

Not yet. I'm really surprised by how many people have downloaded the dv2000t one I created awhile back. A dv6000t pack would essentially be the same file but with a different Nvidia driver and a different sound driver. Let me work on it. I'll try to post a pack or packs later today.

Nobody with a dv5000 series responded? I'm not sure about "other" problems, but I can answer your two main questions.

    1. You can use the XP driver from HP here on 32-bit Vista as a "workaround" driver to get sound. You can also try the beta driver for Waikiki audio from here, but I don't know if that's been tested by anyone with dv5000 series.
    2. Just grab the latest 6.10C driver for quick launch buttons. The driver is the same for all models.

All-in-one Vista driver pack for dv6000t, v6000t, and dv9000t series machines.

    First off, the links:

    Part 1
    Part 2
    Part 3

You'll need all three files (around 200 MB total), which, when extracted create a "HP Vista Driver" directory that includes,

    HP Active Support Library 1.0m -- sp34016
    HP Bluetooth 6.0C -- sp34275
    HP Conexant Fax-Data Modem 7.61 -- sp34464
HP Conexant Venice Audio Driver 4.10 -- sp34463
    HP Help and Support (x64) -- sp34413
    HP Help and Support (x86) -- sp34411
    HP Quicklaunch Buttons 6.10C -- sp34236
HP Ricoh Card Reader -- sp34373
HP Synaptics Touchpad Driver -- sp35444
    HP Update -- sp34261
    HP Webcam -- sp34746
    HP Wireless Assistant -- sp34510
    Intel 945GM Graphics -- sp34597 (x86) and sp34598 (x64)
    Intel ProWireless 6.00D -- sp34804
    Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 and 7600 -- sp34682

    Setup instructions:
I always extract the contents of the HP-provided sp#####.exe files to their own subdirectory. That is how this download will expand. For most drivers the setup.exe file is the file that launhes the installer. Their are a couple of exceptions, however:

    1) HP Webcam driver -- is not a standard compressed archive, so the original so34746.exe file is used.
    2) HP Ricoh Card Reader driver -- launch the DPInst.exe file from within either the x86 or x64 subdirecory to install.

    Quickplay:

Quickplay 3.0 is not included as I uploaded it seperately awhile ago. If you need it grab it here

    I appreciated this, as well.
I've downloaded my copy. Well done JadedRaverLA

I think all three of these notebooks are based on the Intel Chipset. I have the Mobile Intel Calistoga i945PM Chipset in my DV9200T and the information about this chipset can be found HERE. I do not know why HP does not have the latest driver for the chipset listed in their downloads? I always like to have the latest chipset driver installed before I install any of the more recent drivers. You might want to included this non-hp driver in your next driver pack. :D You can still install it after you have installed all these drivers, not going to hurt anything and might fix strange unidentified problems with your hardware. This might help you figure out which one you have Download the Intel® Chipset Identification Utility

You can download the latest Intel Chipset Drivers for Vista / XP / Etc. HERE
You must use Internet Explorer to download it, as it is protected by an ActiveX control.

Apparently the latest version from Intel is v8.1.1.1010 Rel 11/21/2006
The file is "INFINST_AUTOL.EXE" if you want to Auto Installer Package.
I do not know what the latest version from HP is?

    Thank You [IMG]

The latest version of the Chipset firmware on the HP site is "7.14.10.1114 A" dated 1/2007. So the version number is lower, but the date is more current? I wonder about HP sometimes...but so far so good with my machine.

HP dates their releases based on when they post them (after 6-8 weeks of internal testing), not when the OEM releases the driver. So, if you're looking for the newer release, always go by version number rather than date.

I took the Intel INF's found in the extracted XP folder from the Intel Firmware download and made a new XP install CD, following Intel's instructions on how to do so. It seems to have a much much easier time figuring out my hardware when installing XP with the updated CD.

ok, sorry but 37 pages is way too much to read. Upgraded to Vista, and now my quickplay buttons dont work. well only one won't work, the mute button. its like its stuck on mute. when i touch it i hear the click and the volume icon in windows will change but the mute still stays red on the quicklaunch. and I dont get any sound. I can plug in speakers and they work but the onboard speaker do not. I upraded the bios and all drivers. am i still missing something? I have the dv6120us.

I called Geek Squad at CompUSA and explained the problem you are having.
They said to format the drive and reinstall from scratch.

    what can I say ??

    blade4804 --

The mute button isn't actually part of the Quickplay button driver... it just sits next to those buttons. I know, it makes no sense.

It's function is actually controlled by the audio driver. So make sure you are using the latest Vista Conexant HD Audio driver (from HP) for your machine.

If you already are, then I'm not sure what to do, other than to try reinstalling the audio driver.

ok, here is what happened... when checking my volume properties, there is two option, one for headphones and one for regular. well i thought the headphones was jsut for the headphone jack so i didn't chose that one, well i was watching a movie and switched the the volume control for the headset, and tripped on the cord and yanked it from the machine and the regular laptop speakers took over... so i dont know how that worked but apperantly everything is working fine... i just have to use the headset volume output to use my built in speakers. weird... anyway everything works fine now with that selected.

    thanks for the help tho

that aside, i am still having audio troubles. this laptop does have the venice codec, but the mute button sometimes stops working when i try updating the driver, and now the mute button works and volume goes up and down, but whenever i play a music file (mp3) no sound comes and the song stays at 00:00. it use to work, but windows update updated the conexant driver and so i have no iea what the problem is now...any help?!

note: windows sounds do work, (startup and shut down...etc) but no mp3 files

i 2nd broadus, you make a good point.

i just reformatted my computer after being fed up with my mp3s not playing. everything is working fine (for now) minus the mic! it still doesnt work! this was the whole reason of me getting a new laptop! haha, do any other dv2000 owners have this problem?

edit- i realized the mic volume was down at 7, and put it up to 100. now the mic finally works, even tho it is faint...but its better than nothing. i hope hp releases a new driver to fix this faint mic issue

Sometimes things just get so screwed up, it's easiery to reinstall everything from scratch than to find a solution. Then make yourself a proper image backup with everything working. The improperly installed drivers are probably interfering.

I was having sort of a low sound issues, too. I was trying to play a divX Ironman rip or something and nothing worked to increase the volume. Eventually, I tried to play something else and the sound was plenty loud. I was like damn, the other file must have been ripped at some low volume setting or something.

Have to tried playing different clips?

Does your tweaked driver make the mics work correctly and record at reasonable level. instead of having to yell out like a meshigene for having them pick up a faint whisper?

Still sick and tired of this. It seems that HP has just abandoned us now, thinking the basic drivers we have for our laptops get the job done.

I'm still wanting a up to date Vista driver for my 7600 Go in my dv9000t that actually allows the GPU to be utilized fully under Vista. Whatever. Seems like I'm not going to be getting it anytime soon.

But could somebody post for me the highest version number of Driver from Laptopvideo2go.com that works for my 7600 without any problems? Going through every single release and finding the right .Inf files are a pain. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm really getting tired of this whole thing.

I imagine that HP are trying to work on better drivers. Now that Vista is out and the initial batch of drivers are out, they'll hopefully update the other ones.

I'm using these on my dv6282, they're stable and seem to be much better than the official ones.
Besides they are much more complete as you can control contrast, gamma and such, wich was'nt available before.

    http://www.dailytech.com/NVIDIA+Releases+New+ForceWare+Drivers/article7528.htm

New drivers for Windows XP and Vista users

This morning NVIDIA released new drivers for Windows Vista and XP users for GeForce 6 and newer graphic processors. The Windows Vista drivers are up to ForceWare Release 158 version 158.24 while Windows XP users are stuck with ForceWare Release 90 version 94.24.

The new Windows Vista Release 158 drivers increase 3D performance in applications, add PureVideo HD support, DirectX force vertical sync and an updated NVIDIA Control Panel. The driver supports DirectX 9, DirectX 10 and OpenGL APIs for single-GPU GeForce 6, 7 and 8-series configurations. NVIDIA only supports DirectX 9 and OpenGL on GeForce 6, 7 and 8-series SLI configurations.

GeForce 8 SLI users that want to take advantage of DirectX 10 support are steered towards the version 158.43-beta drivers. As with all driver releases, the latest ForceWare WHQL release has game and application compatibility fixes.

The Windows XP release 90 drivers add support for the new GeForce 7200 GS. The new driver supports PureVideo HD hardware acceleration of H.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2 high-definition video formats. NVIDIA has also improved video post-processing and added HDCP support for DVI and HDMI connectors. NVIDIA updates the new Control Panel as well.

Download the new drivers from NVIDIA for Windows XP, Windows XP 64-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit and Windows Vista 64-bit.

I downloaded these, but when I tried to install, I got this message: "Setup detected that the operating system in use is not Windows Vista [32-bit]. This setup program and its associated drivers are designed to run only on Windows Vista [32-bit]. The installation will be terminated."

As seen in my signature, my computer has Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
