With SP9300 + 105m without switchable graphics, on lowest brightness, basic web browsing + word processing; I get around 5:30 on a full charge. Also I believe Asus sells a SU7300+310m(w/ optimus) that gets around 10 hours battery wise.
-
I don't think the SU4100s even came with a nVidia card, I'm thinking their all 4500M. I could be wrong though.
If you didn't ask for the 105M, I'd probably be willing to trade with you. -
I'm almost certain there aren't any SU4100 or SU7300 + G105M DM3Ts.
-
Didn't someone in this thread say they were available in Europe for a while?
-
Yep. SU7300 + G105: 1030eg (VJ241EA). Still available.
-
That would end up being about $875 + shipping to US in US dollars.
I don't want to go for the ASUS 13" with the switchable graphics because glossy plastic looks terrible and the keyboard has flex.
I guess I'll wait until something good comes out... perhaps if the Envy 13 gets updated I might snag a used one if I can find it at a good price. They supposedly get about 6-7 hours of battery life. -
So I used it last night when it had 95% left for about 2 hours and today for about 3 hours with software installations and browsing the internet. And it sill has around 30% left. Si I'd say it's very close to 7.5 hours battery.
-
What are your specs/model?
-
For the hard drive, I installed a 40 GB Intel X25-V
-
Were you easily able to install Windows 7 on the 40gb ssd without too much refinement?
How much space do you have left? -
It's very easy to install Windows 7 on the 40GB HDD. I don't even have to do anything additionally, Windows 7 and the Intel SSD Toolbox will automatically do everything for your SSD.
After I installed Windows 7 and Office 2010 Professional Plus, Visual Basic 2010, drivers, and misc softwares like Firefox, adobe reader, ccleaner, java, security essential, and windows live essentials ... I got around 18.8GB left. -
Excellent. Thanks Wanderermy. I'm planning on purchasing a 40gb X-25 V to install in my HP dm3t (1000- sp9300, g105m). Though I'm split on the idea of waiting until next year when the prices will drop and instead buy the 60gb variant. I will also be running Pro-Engineer (3D CAD program) on it.

How are people charging the new dm3t?
On the old dm3t and other laptops, I usually charge it until the light turn off. But on the new dm3t, it don't seen to turn off. -
HP Pavilion dm3-3010us listed on Amazon for $624.99

Do you guys think the new DM3 should get a separate thread?
I think it would make sense because the new model is very different to the old model. -
Agreed Phil. Basically an entirely different notebook under the same name. Having a separate thread will make things more orderly; filtering out the dm3 1000 questions and concerns vs. the dm3 3000's
-
I personally don't think so.... too much clutter and the average person won't know the difference between the DM3 3000 series and the DM3 1000/1100 series. That's just me though.
-
There are separate threads though for other notebook computers that are 1st vs. 2nd or 3rd generation.
But now that I think of it, majority of the owners of the newer dm3t are owner's of the original. Likewise, those who have no clue about the notebook would most likely be better off posting here where all the experienced owners are.
I'm just concerned about the focus switching so abruptly. (From old to new, new to old, possibly a cluttered thread lacking a specific focus on one laptop; like I previously stated, the newer dm3t is a whole different laptop). -
No backlit keyboard because that's an "option".
Only available by direct order from HP.
Stupid.
-- -
I don't think a new thread is really warranted in this case. The Dm3 isn't exactly the most popular model.
-
**FYI**
The DM3T is no longer being offered with a BACKLIT keyboard...
I purchased the MINI 311 about a month ago and it's quite possibly the WORST laptop I've ever owned...and I go through quite a few of them with our company....it SUCKS because the keyboard doesn't register keys (the spacebar in particular), and the mouse tracking was terrible (although an update seemed to help that problem)...
I am returning the MINI 311 and was considering buying the DM3T...however I have also ready sketchy concerns with the trackpad (which isn't the worst issue really I can work with that, I use an external mouse anyway most of the time)...but overall I need some INPUT on this machine...I'm only buying it for school use so it won't get highly used...but I don't want a piece of crap either. Any high end processing I need done will be done with my high end HP lappy I have for work.
Any input is GREATLY appreciated...frickin keyboard option was available TWO DAYS ago and today it's CAPUT! Crazy!
Thanks all. -
Well this thread is 323 pages now. I think it will make things clearer by having a new thread.
Here's the new thread:

They can't keep anything good going. Pulled the 1600x900 Radiance display from the ENVY a week after it was launched and previewed.
I'll never buy a laptop without a backlit keyboard.
This was the cheapest option too. Probably why they pulled it.

Has anyone had issues with network connection dropping out intermittently? I don't seem to have this problem with my iMAC which runs on the same wireless signal. I checked to see if there was a new driver, however device manager says it's up to date. Anything else I can try? It happens once or twice an hour.
-
I had that problem once, but it wasn't laptop-related.
The solution was to switch the channel to a less crowded one. -
How would I do that? Sorry, don't know much about routers.
-
You have to go into your routers settings, either via usb cable or by typing its IP in your browser. From there it will be under one of the config options. Its hard to be specific seeing as every router is different
-
I don't think I am sold on the core i-UM processors. At this point, the performance delta is pretty huge compared to the full voltage versions. I could accept that if the battery life was significantly longer but it really isn't. That's why I bought the Toshiba R705. I get 5 hours of battery life and a full-powered i3. Am I missing something here?
-
No you're right. The power consumption of the current ULV CPUs is disappointing. There are even full voltage laptops that get better batterylife than there ULV counterpart (Asus U30JC).
Another example: Acer 1810T with SU9400 gets over 8 hours battery life, the new 1830T with core i3-330um gets only 6. The SU9400 is as fast as the i3 330um. -
Yeah Intel really dropped the ball with the new CULVs...
-
Today when I went to plug in the external drive, I realized that from the usb port on the right side closest to the wireless button has started wearing off, I know that's the only usb port I use to connect my iPhone and all other usb gadgets but wow. Just a warning to everyone, easy when using the usb ports. Haha
-
What do you mean by wearing off?
-
Chrome color wearing off, I bet.
-
Right on. The paint is wearing off very easily. And it sucks as it drops the value of the laptop considerably. So when I try to sell it, it won't be a easy sell. Sucks big time. Shoulda just brought a dell.
-
LOL.
That is all. -
...as if Dells don't skimp out on quality with their consumer lines.
The HP DM3 build quality, aside from the chrome paint peeling, which to a lot of people is quit minor and just cosmetic, is excellent for a $500 notebook. -
Has anyone contacted HP to see if they'll sell the trim aftermarket?
-
Why would you buy it though (unless of course you want to sell it) as it will just come off again...
I'm so glad I sold my DM3 before it started to fade
.
-
So it'll look nice for at least a while?
-
Well I would spend $50 on trim if it increased the resale value by $100 per-say. Not saying that I actually would but just theoretically, as my Dm3t hasn't had any trim issues as of yet
-
Mine has begun to chip, however I'm planning that by next year (assuming the situation worsens), to paint it with "RHINO". Durable and just plain cool.
-
What is RHINO? Sounds awesome.
-
Protective truck bed lining =D
Rhino Worldwide Protection -
Ohhh man, I think they tested how durable this is or similar products on Mythbuster and it's pretty ing tough!

Shouldn't this be in the new dm3 thread?
-
OH SHOOT! I never notice that
-
Does anyone use a Be.ez 13.3" sleeve with their Dm3? And does its zipper cause any chipping of the paint?
-
MacBooks are slightly thicker so I would think it would be slightly loose in there, but usually sleeves, especially from a well known brand, will put a layer of cloth between the zipper and the laptop.
-
From what I've read, taking off the trim isn't so easy, and you basically disassemble the whole machine.
If I went that far, I don't think I'd put new trim back on, as it just doesn't last.
Stripping it to the natural black plastic would look ok, and stay that way forever.
Or, paint. There are paints specially formulated for plastic that stick pretty well.
Rhino lining paint might look cool, but it seems that it would go on kind of thick and stick out too much. If someone tries it, I'd like to see the result.
I'm still thinking about trying some automotive chrome touch up paint with a tiny brush. I only have a very small line of chrome that has peeled so far, on the corner by the headphone jack. It's hardly noticeable, but it bugs me.
