The i5-520m is minimally better than the i5-430m for everyday use, as far as I've heard.
-
-
I see. For every day use I doubt you'd notice the difference. I'm sure the improvements are shown through gaming. Would the battery life be about the same on both though?
-
Only the I5-520M, I5-540M and I7-620M have the Comm suite.

The what??

I'm definitely not an expert, but I had an HP hdx16 for a while, and it used to make a clicking sound before playing sounds intermittently. I eventually figured out (after a lot of net searching) that there was a power setting that turned the speakers off after a set period of time, so when you played a sound, it would turn them back on with a "pop" or "click" before playing the sound. There should be a power management setting for the sound device or something, I would think. So you might want to try that! Good luck!

For all those who ordered on either June 2nd or 3rd -- are your orders still in production? Mine hasn't been shipped yet, and I'm actually a little surprised.
-
I ordered June 2nd and yes, my order is still in production. I wanted to have it by my graduation tomorrow... definitely not gonna happen.
-
June 3rd, still in production

two quick questions from someone who is considering buying this machine:
1. Is the Intel Graphic capable of playing 1080p movie smoothly? (not a gamer myself)
2. Where can I see this machine in person?
Thanks. -
1) Yes
2) Costco -

lakers. you'll have to download and use a codec pack (like cccp) or something. but yeah it'll play 1080p video files.
hell. my 3.5 year old core2duo 2ghz can play 1080p. (video codec stuff is more processor than graphics card unless you have one that supports that sorta stuff) -
Thanks a lot.
My 3 years old dv2000 (Gforce Go 7200) doesn't play 1080p, in fact, it struggles with 720p. -
I hate to ask this, but this will affect my situation due to the fact that I am moving in the upcoming week.
How long does it take for the laptop to ship to the east coast (NYC) after it's produced and shipped.
Initially I was under the impression it will arrive prior to the estimated built date as many early buyers experienced, but so far it has yet to be built yet. Estimated date is 6/11. I might be moved out by the time it arrives if it doesn't get here in a week. -
If your estimated ship date is June 11 (as is mine), I really think it should ship today. There was one guy whose estimated ship date was also June 11, but he ordered one day before me (June 1st vs. June 2nd), so his was shipped yesterday.
The pattern seems to be that shipping updates are sent around 3:00pm PST each day. I may be wrong, but a lot of updates seem to be sent around that time. -
Thank you. Can someone inform me the transit time to east coast from their experiences?
-
I'm not sure how to handicap the likely ETA, it probably varies. Why don't you contact FedEx once it has shipped? They can hold it at one of their offices or storefronts instead of delivering it to your home. Once you've moved, or once they receive it (whichever comes first), you can ask them to deliver it to your new address, or just pick it up yourself, whichever is most convenient. I vaguely remember working something out with them when I last moved; can't remember for what anymore though.

Communication suite:
"That is, with one exception: The 620M, 540M and 520M chips show an excellent rate in the "Communication Suite". To be more precise, PCMark Vantage tested coding and decoding of data, data compression, email search and audio transcoding, all of which are very CPU-biased applications. The reason could be special features in the new Arrendale CPUs that can score especially in the cited processes and which have been left out on the smaller chips (new AES instructions, Intel trusted execution technology)."

Can someone tell me if the bottom of laptop gets too warm when running on battery?
I just checked the laptop at Costco and loved everyting about it. My only concern, the left side, near the vent, seemed to be mighty warm. It was running from the power supply so was probably at max power settings, and I could not change it as all admin settings were disabled.
I had bad experience with my Pentium M based Toshiba M30x, after an hour or so of use, the bottom gets uncomfortably warm. Forget about wearing shorts, even light pants are not much help
Thanks -
I bought a dm4t a couple weeks ago when BCB was 10%. Now, I see it's back up to 25%. Any way to get that additional 15%? I'm not in a hurry for this computer. I can be patient. Would returning the first computer (it's in the process of being delievered) and then reordering work? A couple hundred dollars is worth the extra week or two I have to use the old computer.
-
yes do it, return it
-
So -- was anyone's laptop shipped today? If so, what was the estimated ship date?
-
i ordered mine on 6/3/10...i check the status everyday lol
doesnt say it ships until 6/14/10 ....i hope it ships much sooner like some people said -
I ordered mine on June 4 with a ship date of June 15...it feels like Xmas when I was 5...I have a hard time going to sleep and then in the morning I run to my computer to see where my laptop is! How old are we?!!!
Maybe tomorrow when I wake up, there will be a nice FedEx tracking number! -
There have been 2 commercials running on youtube which show the HP dm4 as being GPS enabled. Anybody know more about this as I can't seem to find any information about this. Not even on their website. Thanks
-
Update - I just received an email from HP at 6.10am ET that my order has shipped and is on way via standard 5-7 Biz day with a tracking number. My order date was June 3rd. So, I guess it is plausible that it will arrive on schedule 6/14.
-
lol damn, i ordered mine on the same date and no email or update on my order status this morning
-
I'm glad to say that my order is finally shipped! I received an email at 3:00am PST last night. It's odd that mine was shipped on the same day as rshaochu's, since he ordered one day later than me.
Now, if only the FedEx tracking number worked... -
Mine still "in prod" ordered on 6/4
....
-
I'm not finding any such settings. Has anyone else encountered this problem and fixed it? It is a little annoying.
-
I want to buy a 4GB memory chip for my laptop when it shows up, does anyone know what the correct memory would be for this box? I always buy my memory from crucial and select the Manuf\Model from their site, but the dm4t isn't an option to select yet.
-
1066 DDR3, PC3 8500 I believe.
-
Update - I ended up calling HP Tech Support on this one and it seems to be an easy fix. Just uninstall and reinstall your audio driver. That seemed to get rid of that annoying chirpy/clicking sound before alert sounds. Or any sounds for that matter.

I have a quick question. My FedEx estimated delivery date is June 17. In your experience, how accurate is that estimate? I really hope it comes before then, because it seems like it doesn't usually take a whole week for these things to arrive once they're shipped.
-
It's coming from China. At least that's where mine is right now.
-
Well yeah, I understand that, but in the past some people have had theirs arrive within three days (after shipping). I just wanted to know whether that was ahead of their estimated delivery date or not.
-
NEVERMIND!!!! Still hearing that stupid sound. Thought it was fixed when testing the system alert sounds under the Control Panel > Hardware and Sounds. Sorry for the false hope.
-
Could someone who gets a a recent shipment of this computer tell me if they hear that same clicking sound before any time of alert sound. It's very faint, but almost sounds like a static like click before the actual sound. Just want to see if its happening on newer builds. Thanks!!
-
^ that means you lied in your last 4 posts.
--- sound one posted a potential solution by going into power management & editing some options there... its in this thread.
@ soadquake981 -- Your date will vary.
On my last order I received it on the day the quoted (est. del. date) ... it varies on the computer model & demand & everything like that. Since this is a new model & it appears to be in high demand the date your receive it might be a little off.
That aside you should receive it by next weekend.
I have June 17 del. date as-well...
its sent via fedex from China as others have mentioned...
They usually have Customs in Alaska & its typically gets to you within 24-48 hours once it clears customs (depending on where you live). -
It's a engineering flaw, if that's what you want to call it. The dm3 has it too. I only hear the sound when I'm using headphones though.

I need some help here.
My primary use is i do lot of browsing and video conversions. Also want laptop to be portable and able to watch HD movies (Via HDMI to TV) and do my work at same time.
I ordered mine today, but still not able to finalize between I5 and I7. With I5 i can save some 100$+ over I7.
What about High Capacity 6 Cell battery. Is it really worth 20$?
And will there be any difference between Intel wireless and Normal Wireless with Bluetooth?
I need you guys advice and comments.
Here is my config.
HP Pavilion dm4t Entertainment PC
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-620M Dual Core processor (2.66GHz, 4MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz
• 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5450 switchable graphics
• 14.0" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366 x 768) -For HP Mobile Broadband WWAN
• SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
• HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader + Digital Microphone
• Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
• Full-size island-style keyboard
• 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)
So the total price is
1404 - 350$ Off(coupon) = 1054.99 - 25%BCB + 87$ Tax
So final price without BCB is 1142$. Order accepted by HP.
BCB not yet reflected in my account so probaly need to wait for couple of days. -
^i thought BCB wont work w/ the extra 200.00 off coupon
-
Will cancel the order if BCB dont work.
-
BCB will not work, and it shouldn't show up. Even if it does, when the 60 days is up it will just disappear and you will be stuck with your purchase since HP's return policy is 21 days. If you needed the BCB to keep your order then you shouldn't have placed it in the first place.
-
trying to get some good deal. How do you know it will disappear. Did it happen to you? There are many deals going with BCB.
If BCB doesnt work i will wait for the right deal to come up or reduce my specs. -
everybody and their mothers know that if you stack any coupons with bing cashback, the cashback will be void. you may get that email from bing stating otherwise, but when 60 days pass by and you get that reject, don't go crying to your mother because she already told you not to do it
-
I highly doubt you'll be seeing better than the current $350 coupon.. maybe $50 more (in the future, who knows when).. but it could drop down lower for a long time. I wouldn't bet on getting a better deal in the future.
-
It has happened to many people on this fourm.
