well my DM4t is on the way ... however i heard from few posts/friends that lenovo y460 could have been a better deal if you can spend couple of 100 bucks more .. what you guys think ? i dont see any thing great in y460 ..expt that ATI 5650.

I read that the Y460 got super hot. I just didn't want to be frying eggs, and the DM4T has the 9 cell battery option. I also preferred the metal case of the DM4T to the plastic of the Y460. You can get a good deal on the Y460 though; Lenovo constantly offers it for 15% off. Its hard drive is larger and slower, and the vid card is better if you get the model with discrete graphics.

Good news! I just went back and read some earlier pages of this thread, and it looks like the people who ordered on the release date had a FedEx estimated delivery date of June 3rd, but many actually received it on May 28. That's 5 business days before the estimated delivery date.

So, if my FedEx estimated delivery date is June 17, it's likely to get here before then :D

Generally speaking you will receive your laptop +/- 2 days from HPs estimated shipping date.

Well, mine didn't ship until the estimated shipping date, and I'm going to give Fedex at least 3 days to deliver it to my house.

The weekend is here so it won't be delivered until Monday at least. So get out the door and down on the street and have some fun outside.
My purchase is working well, I recommend the DM4T. Probably the hippest item in my life at this time. Other than the little black cat I am striving to tame and domesticate, he is very cool and doesn't know it.

From my observation through 3 different HP shipments on FedEx from Shanghai, the international flights continue but domestic action stops on Saturday and Sunday. They may start up Sunday night to move items in advance for Mondays delivery's. I imagine the FedEx aircraft plowing through the night loaded with stuff we buy from factories in China... I'm not a FedEx expert but I will say, tracking shipments is one of my favorite activities.

Remember also that in China it is tomorrow already and I think they also take Sunday off. (Or they should if they don't, those poor wage slaves.)

The waiting builds patience and character, like being behind an old person in line at the market when they obviously need assistance but you just have to wait for their slow-mo speed.
At least that is what I keep telling myself.
This DM4T is worth the wait. I loaded the Scrybe software I am not certain how useful it will be but the multitouch is great; scroll by using 2 fingers on the trackpad, it works even in openoffice documents.

I'm still waiting for my package to leave Shanghai. Any time now!

Oh, one other question -- is it necessary to install Synaptics Scrybe in order to use multitouch gestures (mostly two-finger scroll)? Or can I just use two-finger scroll right out of the box?

Multitouch comes installed. Scrybe adds some gestures that may be meaningful to you. There is a video on the scrybe site that explains it. I was kind of insinuating how well the touchpad works for me. It is adjusted for a fairly light touch for my clumsy fingers.

I'm not sure, but I think this review is new to this thread:

    HP Pavilion dm4-1063cl

Gives information on the DM4 and the Costco version, with some good info on battery life.

I have a question for anyone that has used both the DM4 and the Asus U30JC or the Asus UL series. How do the screens compare?

Hey I'm wondering what some of you owners have done to clean up your dm4t? I haven't had a new computer in like 5 years. I'm still on XP and do the occasional reformat/repartition and all that.

My new laptop is scheduled to arrive later this week, with Win7 home, the 160gb ssd, and onboard graphics. Any tips to share? I'm also browsing the Out-of-box guide threads in the HP forum, but your specific experiences with this model would be helpful!

Customs can be tricky. They are pretty lax on their tracking overseas. Not as bad as usps, but bad.

They belong to the same series. Custom built ones from HP.com are generally reffered to as dm4 or dm4t (the t signifies that the system is built with Intel cpu's, if its a z then its AMD). Pre-configured ones are given a specific model number as 1060 etc. The first three letters (as in dm4) and the first number (as in 1xxx , 2xxx, 3xxx) determine the age within the main series.

Mine has been sitting there for 4 days. Does anyone want to call FedEx?

EDIT: I called them myself, and they weren't really of much help. I already knew everything they told me. However, they referred to the estimated delivery date (this Thursday) as the "commitment" date, and said that they're relatively certain that it will arrive by then (provided no customs delays).

Well, my tracking now says that it is in transit as of 2:58 am Shanghai time. I'm guessing it is on FDX90 which will land in Memphis at 11:38 pm.

FlightAware > Federal Express Corporation #90

Does this plane make a stop in Anchorage for customs clearing or do they clear customs in Memphis?

I'm so tired of being chained to my desktop and can't wait to have this laptop so I can have a life!!! ;)

    Great.

Not really seeing how it will meet the estimated delivery date of Jun 16, 2010.

Very cool. I have the dv6t, but it appears mine is on the same flight (it had the same 2:58am departure time).

I can only hope it goes straight to Memphis. I live in Nashville, so it'd be great if it arrived before it's scheduled delivery day, June 17th.

I got the laptop today, not impressed with the touchpad. The pointer floats around the screen like it has a mind of its own. I've disabled all the extra settings for the synaptics touchpad and still floating. I'm going to give it a few days and see if maybe it just takes getting used to, but if it's still floating I'm returning it. It also isn't responsive when doubleclicking to launch something.

No media ships with it, you can make 5 recovery DVD's, but how can I just install Windows 7 fresh without having to have all the add-on stuff it ships with?

I see. I ordered mine June 5 from CA and have the same June 17 estimated delivery date. Sometimes when I order on Amazon and they use Fedex, I receive my package a few days earlier than estimated and don't receive the last few status updates. Not saying that's what will happen here. But they're not exactly always accurate.

Well, I find it unfathomable that FedEx would update your tracking status but not mine, assuming that both packages are at the same stage. I can only hope :D

I find it also kind of "unfair" that I ordered three days earlier, but I'm receiving my laptop on the same day as you (if not later). Oh well :( Nothing against you!
