No, but practically every application installed by HP is available in the SWSetup folder. As long as you have a copy of that, then you can use any Windows XP CD and reinstall any of the drivers and software except for Quickplay Directplay. Although some people have been able to install it following the guides, but I always got errors when I tried to install it on my V3000.

How would I then install the applications onto the system using the folder? Do these steps make sense:
1. Start by running the recovery CDs so that I can recreate the partitions and set the computer back to its original shipping setup.
2. Copy the SWSetup folder onto a USB flash drive or something like this.
3. Run the XP backup CD to erase the shipped operating system with all of the HP bloatware. This should leave me with a clean copy of just XP without any HP instillations.
3. Do I then just copy and paste the SWSetup folder from the flash drive onto my C drive, overwriting the existing folder? -
The SWSetup folder probably wont fit onto a USB flash drive, either burn it a CD/DVD(it will take several CD/DVD's) or store it to an external hard drive.

If that's the case, I just need to get back QuickPlay and selectively install the software I want from the SWSetup folder. Does that make sense?
But I also would still like to be able to upgrade from XP home to XP Pro. When I run the upgrade from inside windows I end up with two operating systems, and the computer asks me which one I want to boot from every time I turn it on. So I am stuck with using the XP Home from HP. Do you know of a work around for this? When I try to do a "destructive" installation of XP Pro I get a message saying that the installation was stopped to prevent critical damage to my system. I can only do the upgrade, not the destructive, installation. And the upgrade gives me two operating systems.
I am now working from the operating system that was installed with only the Home cd. To upgrade to Pro and have only one operating system (XP Pro), can I start from the XP home I got from HP, which seems to have the SATA drivers. Then go into the bios and disable SATA support. Then do an upgrade (instead of the destructive installation) from Home to Pro. And then go back and enable SATA again after the Pro installation. Or will this destroy the drivers in Home that allowed the SATA support? I ask because this seems easier than having to back up my files and download drivers.
Thanks for all of the help so far. I expect my recovery CDs to arrive by Friday. I can't wait to get into this. -

Yes, the XP Pro CD does have the service pack.
I made the changes in the bios last night to disable SATA and did a clean install of XP Pro. I am just messing around now, because I will have to start from scratch when my recovery CDs arrive. I didn't do a slipstream before hand, so the PC only works when SATA id disabled. You mentioned that I can install the SATA drivers from an external floppy drive instead of slipstreaming. How would I do this, can I do it after installing Pro, and can I use a flash drive to do it?
Thanks again. I'd be lost without this forum. -
there is three similar drivers in hp.com
Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH7
Intel Matrix Storage Manager
Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver
Which one is the right one used nLite to slipstream SATA drivers? -
can somebody who's had success with reinstalling windows w/ quickplay running properly, please make a detailed guide? although the first post/original guide by tph gave me an idea of the process, it still seemed vague. a comprehensive guide that a noob would understand would be really appreciated, thanks!
-
i read a thread on notebookforums.com saying that the OS reinstallion disks that you order from HP ($10) already has SATA drivers included, and there is no use to slipstream using nLite. can anyone comment on this? thanks.
-
I have a few problems after following this guide exactly:
1. In device manager, I have a hardware exclamation mark under Other Devices: Mass Storage Controller
Where do I find the driver? What is it? Windows can't find it online either
2. My quickplay mute button won't work but all other buttons work. why not?
Thanks! -
Hello, I'm a seriously unhappy noob here...
And Even though my issue is only partly related to the problem, I'm hoping someone might know something.
Here's my issue. I'm having these BSODs that say something like IRQL_NOT_MORE_OR_LESS or something like that, I don't remember. Now I read that a lot of problems can be associated with this message, but I'm really at the end of my road here...I have done a pc restore twice. I first thought that maybe winamp was causing my problem, and i uninstalled it. Now it looks like utorrent is causing the problem...but I'm not sure it is. I think something is wrong with my pc hardware or something, but I don't know how to find out how to update drivers.
I'm planning on using my WinXP Pro Cd to see if I can at least make sure system files haven't been damaged...Hp has really crappy customer service too, as I soon discovered, since they transferred it to India. Will my woes ever end?
Hoping for some advice,

Has anyone had a successfull reinstallation with the all QP buttons functionally working?
-
If you made a copy of the SwSetup Folder, it has all you need in it. Delete all the partitions and leave at least 1028 MB (unpartitioned) for Quickplay. Follow the reinstall of Quickplay in the guides and everything should work. -

I have both the XP Pro operating system backup CD sold for $10 with my DV200T (which includes the SATA drivers) and the recovery discs created from the partition on the hard drive (The recovery partition was also reinstalled on my hard drive after I created the disks. Once I put the created disk into my drive and used the Alt + Backspack keys, I found a menu to mess around with. Don't know what I selected, but the system saw that the partition was "corrupted" and reinstalled it). My question is, can I use the recovery disks (or partition) and the XP Pro backup CD to erase the bloatware on the system and have a clean copy of XP WITH all of the useful software I would selectively want to install, such as lightscribe and the other imaging software? If possible, I would like also to keep the recovery partition and the QuickPlay partition intact.

For anyone who has recently purchased a dv2000t and are doing a reinstall make sure you use the HP quickplay direct 2.1 that comes in the swfolder to view DVD's without booting up xp. do NOT use 2.0 it will not work. It took me a wehile to figure it out.

Hi, I've seem to formatted my computer without backing up C:\SwSetup. Can anyone upload me the folder or send me the folder on a CD? I've tried to contact HP for the folder but they offered no help. I'm in desperate need of the folder. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Use the HP backup dvd/cd's that you are advised to burn.
-
Any idea why they raised the price on the XP CD to $19? Is HP really just that greedy??

Is it possible to reinstall the quick play partition off of the recovery cd without formatting other partitions on the hard drive?

So, if for some reason the content of the QP partition becomes corrupt (but the partition itself still exists), I can just reinstall the files from the three set of QP folders in SWsetup? Is it the QuickPlay Direct folder that would fix the corrupt partition? -
I didnt remember this feature before but the HP recovery discs have a non destructive recovery option. This should recreate the QP partition without reformatting(so your files should be safe*) but the bad thing is that it will also install the factory default programs back on to the system. You might have to reinstall all/some of your programs.
* I would suggest creating a backup of the important folders/files just in case before doing the non destructive recovery.

After the reformat, pressing the Quick Play buttons in sleep mode or when the system is completely shut down starts Windows rather than going into its own partition without booting. I had reformatted the hard drive without touching the QP partition and installed Vista RC1. So now I have one big partition and I believe I also have the "unformatted" partition for QP. When windows is up and running, pressing QP buttons starts the related apps, but when widows is shut down, pressing QP starts the windows boot procedure. Why is this happening? Issues with Vista or did I screw something up during the reformat?
-
issues with vista i guess. i read another user that has the same problem as you. so far there is no solution. by the way i read it at notebookforums.com

ok, i dont have a dv2000t or v3000t yet, but i'm about to buy one and had a question or two about all this stuff (glanced at several pages of the thread and didnt find a clear answer). i have some experience with restore partitions + quickplay + etc on a couple dv1000's i've helped setup (always left the restore partition for little sisters/etc), but i personally havent bought a laptop since they were still including os and driver discs, so i want to get some clarification on a couple things:
1) Are the $10 discs you can buy from HP just iso's of the restore partition or are they CLEAN windows + required drivers discs rolled into one dvd? (if they are the same thing as the restore partition i'll obviously just burn them myself, back up the iso's somewhere and delete the **** partition).
2) When using the restore partition utility, does it format the entire drive and setup the other two partitions again (factory windows with bloatware & quickplay), or just the windows stuff? If I delete the restore partition and try to reinstall the factory setup with the discs, do the discs have some auto-run type stuff like a windows disc, or do I need to leave the hp restore software installed when i'm cleaning up xp?
3) Since I really dont want to deal with this whole mess and possibly not having quickplay work/etc/etc/etc/etc, is there really going to be a massive difference in performance/clean-ness of the install if i just remove all the bloatware, clean + defrag the registry, and then make my own backup images via ghost or acronis true image? please be honest.
basically what i'm getting at here overall is what steps do i need to take (after making my initial backup discs) to delete the restore partition and regain that lost space while maintaining my quickplay functionality? -
Can use this guide for hp dv6000t?
-
Hi everybody.. I'm from Brazil, and need the SwSetup folder of HP dv2000t.
I format hole HD, and lost the HP_RECOVERY. (its insane!!).
If it exists someone please that it can help me! -
May i ask, what is the drive letter assigned to the quickplay's partition? Is it C: D: or E: ? I have something more to ask after knowing the drive assigned to QP. -
Another question pls:
it is said in:
"4) ....Dont tuch the NTFS 1028MB partition which is Quickplay and which will prolly be useful....."
which means that i would not delete any file/directoty/partition
but in step:
"7. The first thing I instlled was Swsetup\QPW, which is the first part of QuickPlay. After thar, I installed SwSetup\HPQPDP thich is Direct Play part of QuickPlay....."
QUESTION: Does this mean that we are going to install the QPW and the HPQPDP on TOP of the existing 1028MB partition which has files already? -
-
i see. so let me get this right...
given: 100GB HD
given: For argument's sake, everything is rounded off so QP will need 1GB / OS=15GB / files=84GB
given=OS CD = Windows XP SP2 with slipstreamed SATA driver
Install procedure would be:
a) delete all partitions
b) create 15GB partition for OS and format using WindowsXP CD
c) continue installing windows
d) after Windows installation, create 84GB partition for files (do not format)
e) install QPW&HPQPDP (from CD? or do i copy it to C:?)
f) test if QPW&HPQPDP works if not, go back to a) else go to h)
h) format 84GB partition
i) copy swsetup to d: (84GB)
j) install the HP drivers
Follow-up question=Can i make the partition of QP more than 1028MB? I would like to give it around 2056MB or more so that in case the future versions of Quickplay (versions 2+) would need a larger HD space, i could just easily install it on my bigger allocated QP partition and this would mean that i wont need to change the structure of my partitions anymore.
... or QP really needs to see an exact 1028MB partition left? -
Yes, looks like it should work. Although I am not quite sure whether the partition is going to affect QP or not. Try it, otherwise just do a clean install with a single partition.
-
umm 1 other thing, im trying out nlite to slipstream my sata drivers with the windows CD. Do you know the exact file of the sata driver and what directory can i find this on? Is this in my SWSETUP folder too?
Im using an HP DV2000T. Thanks -
anyone? =)
-
-
umm dont get me wrong but as much as possible id like to use the one which is installed in my system already as im sure it would work (which is what im using right now). Would you know where i can find this sata driver in my hard disc? what folder and whats the exact driver name? thanks again
is it this one? Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M)? -
sweet guide, thanks man for all the hard work......
-
To the topic starter, thanks for the guide. I have managed it some of it, but there are some steps that I am really confused.
Is it possible that someone could rewrite this guide step-by-step again? That would do a great deal to me and a lot of the guys in here, too.
Thanks! -

Ask HP for the recovery CD which include the OS(OEM version) and the driver. You have to escalate the case to the Quality Case Manager to get the CD. Use Gparted to re-partition the HD if you do not want to reinstall the system.

Try this one ...
Intel's Driver is at: Ver: 6.2.1.1002 Date: 04 Jan 2007
HP's Driver is at: Ver: 5.5.0.1035 A Date: 16 Mar 2006
Intel's new Ver: 6.2.1.1002 Date: 04 Jan 2007 Driver Below:

I have a DV9000T, but should be the same SATA driver for you

The way I installed Xp and SATA drivers on my dv6205us, was to put the intel sata drivers on a floppy. Then I booted a box stock windows xp cd. When windows asked if i wanted to install a raid or legacy drive, I pushed the F6 key, and inserted my floppy disk. Later...windows showed the list of sata drivers that were on the floppy, and asked which ones i wanted to install. I scrolled down to the ICH7 "mobile" drivers and hit "enter". Wolla....everything went right in and I had a normal install of xp -pro.
-
Its rejecting your serial key, because you are using the cd-key number that was used to install a factory OEM version of Windows XP. To use that cd-key, you have to use an original oem version from your computer manufacturer.
The retail version of XP, has a totally differant PID number then the one on the bottom of your computer, and can tell the differance in PID"s while installing.
Why don't you just use the cd-key that came with your retail XP cd? -
None of my drivers for seem to be working with XP...
My install went smooth but none of the files I saved from my vista installation as per the instructions are working with XP now... I'm I screwed? -
-
I apologize Miner, I mistook that. How would one know if they had an older dv2000t or newer model? My make is dv2315nr if that helps.
ETA: Actually I got most of my software running again save for the audio, quick launch buttons and the rest of the illuminated touch icons for volume, mute, so on...
