DV3500 have back lite keyboard only in US best by blue lable in other world no baklite keyboard, P8400 shoud be better and more powerfull CPU, better pick up DV4 in silver couse keyboard without baklite hard to see. Any gigs of memory you can put by yorself![]()
May be look for ASUS N80 it have more poverful video card in 14"
-
Or maybe you're talking about Total Care, which any call to customer support will probably require you to reference.
I'll even ignore the fact that you can turn both off and they won't cause you any problems.
You're an idiot. -
i'm also going to buy this product in indonesia the spesification are
T7350, 2x1gb ram, 250gb hdd, GeForce 9300 gs w 512mb dedicated
super multi dvd rw double layer, AGN, bt, fp, hdmi, webcam, ethernet,
6 cells, vista premium, card reader, 13.3"
it cost about 1399 usd
P8600, 2gb ram, 320gb hdd, unknown vga card,
super multi dvd rw double layer, AGN, bt, fp, webcam, ethernet,
6 cells, vista home premium, card reader, analoq tv tuner, 14.1"
it cost about 1499 usd
i need your opinion which is better for me?
i think at my place the dv3 nor dv4 is not have backlid keyboard but i dont feel it is a big deal =] -
@malamjahanam,I am there again!
T7350 again?!
....First option would be a good choice.
-
@p1990
well i just cant tell tho it was miss typing or there is Tseries =]]
i've been thinking almost a week by now but haven't got any conclusion yet.
(
-
@malamjahanam,wrt the 2nd config, what laptop is it? Do you really need the Tv tuner? You are buying in Jakarta right?
-
@p1990
its a dv4 also by HP
not really i think i still can buy portable Tv turner if i need one
yes, i'm going to buy at Jakarta -
If first one is a dv3500t then its worth the money. You are getting a little mobile and easytocarry laptop at a good price.I know, you can always purchase a good tvtuner if you need later(I dont think the tvtuner is that important). I thought the dv3500t came with an illuminated keyboard though..
But how is Hp's repair and service in Indonesia? -
the HP service in here is pretty good =].
the illuminated keyboard come only in us >_< which i could say its coool stuff
http://www.notebooks.com/wp-content/uploads/hp_dv3500_pavilion-3.jpg
well i got a new question again is it GeForce 9300M GS or GeForce 9300 ?
i've read from notebook checks it said the vga card with "M" but i read here it come w/o "M" any idea ? -
Again I its a typing error,it has to be a 9300M GS,which is a low end card and very common in small laptops. They have really messed up the configs on ads!
-
that is just too much messed >_<
i also read that GeForce 9300M GS only have max video ram up to 256MB
but again they tell me that it is 512MB dedicated video ram. do they messed up again ???
with that vga card what kind of game can i run ?
at the moment like this ?
i also dont think they will give me a vista 64 bit around here >_< -
For a low end card with crippled memory bandwidth amount of memory makes no difference. So whether its 256 or 512 MB of Video Ram it makes no difference(though there is a high possibility of them messing up with this also
).
You can play older(old) games at max details but it will certainly struggle with directx10 games and other newer games..probably you need to scale down the game settings to a bare minimum to obtain playable Frame rates... -
yey... i have tons of old game that haven't play
so still is it better ati mobility raedon 3470 rather than ge force 9300m gs?? or it just the same ? -
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9300M-GS.9452.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3470.9594.0.html
ATI seems slower -
It seems the dv3510 will be on sale at BestBuy for $999.99 starting tmrw!!!
Happy shopping. -
But for what confing it wil be? T5800? when its not good -
the dv3000 series has actually been released in Asia months before its North American release...unfortunately the configuration, price, warranty options has not been as attractive in Hong Kong, Singapore compared to say BestBuy in USA.
I happen to have to travel frequently to the USA so this is not an issue for me, though i have yet to upgrade it to 8GB, it will cost me USD750 and I only bought the dv3510nr for USD1099, hardly worth it right now.
I will go for the DV4...
your friendly Singaporean neighbour. -
i cant buy from bestbuy since i lived in indonesia
its worth like 16 million here

I am considering purchasing this laptop from best buy but I was wondering if I can install vista 32 bit on it. I saw the 32 bit drivers on the hp website but I noticed that they are the exact drivers for the 64 bit. Does that mean the drivers work for both? Can I install any 32 bit vista on it?
Thanks
Jesse -
But no XP. Vista 64bit not bad at all now using it about a month I do not want to change it for 32bit

[CES 2009] The HP Pavilion dv3 is an thin and light (<4lbs) laptop that packs a decent CPU and graphics card, along with a respectable amount of disk storage (400GB max). However, we like the fact that the motherboard can support 8GB of RAM (with a 64-bit OS). It's about time for laptops to go to the next level, even if right now, two 4GB modules of DDR2 800Mhz can cost as much as $725 - ouch. Assuming that the price of this laptop is reasonable , this is an interesting system that has a good balance in terms of power, weight and value. When it comes to style, everyone is entitled to an opinion, so what's yours? Check out the photo gallery and tell us if you like it or not.

So almost immediately after BestBuy removed their $100 sale on Sunday, HP re-launched their 13" laptop on HP.com again. Coincedence? I think not.
In my opinion, I would still get BestBuy's blue label setup (dv3510nr) over HP's (dv3z). And, I should note that I as someone who had wished HP would come back with their own 13" laptop that I could customize the specs, because I wanted to save money and I thought BestBuy went over the top with the options they chose to include. I also didn't want Vista-64 bit (or deal with downgrading it to 32-bit or XP), but I'll try it for now and see.
Hardware-wise, HP is offering their 13" laptop only with AMD processors. So the dv3z uses AMD processor while dv3510 uses Intel. The video card on the dv3z is also a downgrade, comparatively. However:
Price-wise, I priced the BlueLabel setup as close as possible on HP's website... without their pre-Christmas promotions, the BlueLabel "equivalent" came out to about $1,146 WITH an employee discount BEFORE tax and shipping. Compared to the pre-tax $999.99 at BestBuy, you're getting more bang for your buck. Keep in mind also that BestBuy's price includes a 2-yr warranty while HP's basic setup only comes with 1-yr.
However, if you are looking to save some money, and you don't have a preference of Intel vs AMD, don't need to play 3D games, and don't need as much harddrive space or memory, and can be at peace with a 1yr warranty, you can customize your own on HP.com. The base configuration for the dv3z starts at $799.99 (before tax and shipping). But if your upgrades begin to amount over $100, I would still recommend that you get the dv3510 from BestBuy (unless HP starts offering some discounts/promotions of its own).
Thankfully, I purchased my dv3510 this past Saturday. The only think I still can't get over is the mousepad... I really dislike the little dip/space at the edge... I'd rather they use the mousepad like the dv4t series.
Also, as a side note, it looks like they've switched the ports around... (so, DVD drive is on the left side on the dv3z). -
I'm thinking about buying a dv3550, but my current laptop is a HP where the hinges for the monitor are broken, and having read in a review of the 3510nr that "the hinges seem flimsy" I suddenly got cold feet (thinking of http://www.notebookhingecrack.com and other horror stories) - I don't want the monitor breaking on me two years down the line.
So I would like to know what your experiences are when opening the laptop? Does it run smooth and nice with a suitable amount of resistance - or is there a lot of give and "flimsiness"? -
Good, solid hinges.

-
@128+129: Thanks guys, it's good to hear - you've helped ease my mind a bit
-
using it for about 2months + almost daily now...no issues with hinges

Second time cant get DV3500 back from Hibernate until do not take off battery, strange
All coolers and buttons working only Display still black no windows on screen. But this appears not every time for hibernate mode, usually then its plugged in for charge the battery and then making hibernate.
Is any one get such situation? -
Hello.
In my country it's only dv3500en availablebut is it possible just to order keyboard with backlight as spare part for it? or it's impossible?
And will it work with x9000 cpu? gut one in box herei think it will be faster than that stock cpu in dv3500en
and is it me or those gray letters are almost invisible on keyboard? i couldn't see any letter when looking at the notebook at shop, only could see them then looking dirrectly from the top -
Yepp it should work with all proc P8400; P8600; P9400; P9600 they are same socket and same 25Watts and 45nm, but exists one problem you should follow up your pc temperature especially first 2 weeks give full load for it, looking on spec in other countries what proc like x9000 used in such notebooks suppose shouldn't be any problems. Only hard situation with cpu swap its not so easy but on HP web published good video instructions how to do this.
No keys are visible its stupid shop lightbut not in all angles and not in all light conditions. Sitting with note on you knee all letters visible! if any problems by USB - LIGHT http://www.hihi.lv/shop/uploads/img/products/8 led lampa.jpg

Yay!
Now I can join your ranks as a dv3500 owner
Mine is a dv3550eo (i.e. scandinavian keyboard layout).
Bought at Komplett for 7,000 Dkr/1,230$ (somewhat higher priced - and lower specced than the 3510nr - I'm so envious of you americans
Being a Vista-hater by heart, I immediately ditched the factory Vista 32bit and toyed around with the Windows 7 beta.
NB:
Using the HP tools, I created the recovery dvds, but when I tried restoring the laptop to factory settings (which took forever), I got an error message when trying to boot Vista for the first time after install. I mention this just to point out, that you might want to refrain from deleting the "recovery" partition on the hdd in case you also plan on fooling around with the laptop.
Installing Windows XP
I just want to share my experiences with this, since it might save somebody else some time.
Since the BIOS doesn't allow you to disable native SATA support, you need to slipstream a Windows install cd with SATA drivers.
I used nLite to do this.
Normally I hate using 3rd party program for what you can do "by hand" - but this little proggy sure is sweet and fast.
The SATA drivers I used can be found at:
Intel ICH9M E/M AHCI drivers
That's it: Make a new "slipstreamed" Windows XP cd with nLite, pop it in the drive and you're good to go(drop me a line if you need more elaborate details on this).
I'm hoping that the rest of the drivers (audio, biometric, whatnot) won't be too much of a hassle to get up and running in XP
Other XP drivers
Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN -
still can't make up my mind if to take this HP or samsung q210 or to search for something else
-
-
@xmas2
When I chose the dv3500 series, it was a 3-way shootout between:
-HP dv3500 series
-Samsung Q210
-MSI EX300
They are all prices roughly the same (in Denmark, at least), and have similar specs.
The Q210 seems nice - but it's only 12.1 in. - and the keyboard layout is kinda weird - which is what turned me off.
The MSI is an elusive one with few (if any) available hands-on reviews - which sucks bigtime -
@ harddy
XP is up and running, and audio, video is working properly.
I've also been able to install drivers for all hardware - BUT I think this gives a false picture, since I've had some problems - e.g. with the SD card reader recognizing that I put a card in but giving an error message when I try to access it. Also the biometrics (fingerprint reader) doesn't show in the device manager.
What annoys me the most is that I get a BSOD when shutting down (something about "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE") - but a friend of mine said that I should look into Intel AMTS (ATMS? - something like that.
I think I'll toy around with it this weekend and make a thorough summary of my experiences once it's either working (or I've installed Win7 >.<). But if I make any "groundbreaking" discoveries, I'll ofc. post them right away.
In another post about windows XP on dv5t, sombody mentioned a program called " Driver Backup" which supposedly back up all installed drivers (microsoft as well as non-microsoft) and puts them in a rar file.
If someone with a dv3500 series would do that and upload them somewhere, I would be very grateful. Then I would have something else to fool around with - right now all I'm using is Google and the original swsetup dir which I backed up before formatting.
I'll make a consice post right after this one where I link to all the XP drivers I've found and mention which of the original vista drivers have proven useful in XP.
- Here's hoping for smooth XP install by the end of the weekend!
Still can't get WinXP working properly :/
But I'm dual-booting with Win7 beta - which is running nice and smooth - only problem here is I can't get the card reader to work. -
Windows XP 32 bit drivers for HP Pavilion dv3500 series (dv3550eo at least...)
(Intels homepage for Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family, WinXP Pro 32 bit drivers)
Intel ICH9M E/M AHCI drivers - slipstream these into a WinXP install CD
Intel Chipset 4 series laptop chipset driver
Intel Matrix Storage Manager - fixes power scheme featues (standby when closing laptop lid etc.) On my 3rd install of XP, advanced power schemes didn't work until I installed the HP Quick Launch Buttons (sp40139.exe).
Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
Bluetooth: sp32883.exe did it for me
Vista drivers from the original "swsetup" dir I've found to be working in XP
-Alps Touchpad (swsetup\drivers\touchpad)
-IDT Audio (swsetup\drivers\audio) - contains XP-specific drivers.
-Validity Fingerprint Reader - not the same as the DigitalPersona fingerprint reader software, mind you! But installing this will probably enable you to use some other biometrics software (swsetup\drivers\MISC1)
-ITECIR (IR remote, I believe) (swsetup\drivers\MISC2)
- HDA modem (swsetup\drivers\modem). I believe this is only for sending audio from your modem to your speakers (i.e. irrelevant unless you use the modem).
Main grievances with WinXP at current stage
- Mute button always glows red (but other than that it's working fine!)
- DigitalPersona (fingerprint reader) software doesn't work in XP, I believe that the fingerprint reader itself is recognized ("validity sensor"), so it might work with another piece of software.
- Brightness controls (Fn+F7/F8) don't work. Seemingly a common HP Pavilion problem (dv5t and dv7t also have it). But the good thing is that it's stuck on the highest brightness level and not the lowest. But this is still by far the most annoying thing about running XP on the machine. In Win7 beta it works fine - but when trying to upgrade the drivers from forceware 176.15 to 179.28, the brightness controls also stopped working in Win7. This gives me hope, that they can also be made to function in WinXP - but I have yet to find a proper driver.
## My attempts at solving the brightness issue ##
- BIOS update F.03 til F.12 : No effect.
Mysticmicman was kind enough to send me a link to a HP update tool, that fixed the brightness issue for him in WinXP64bit.
Update: I'm quickly approaching the world record in refomatting, and am currently running WinXP32bit. I tried out the HP file mentioned directly above, but it didn't work... -
@Chokoladenudlen
i used to have 12.1" notebook for 4 years, so size is perfect, but q210 keyboard is really ugly, but it has better cpu here with lower price than HP...
i just can't get HP with P8400 and backlight keyboard here
and i hate them putting Vista Licenses with notebooks. I don't want to spend money for that as i got more than 20 original OEM licenses of HomePremium here (which I'm trying to sell by myself here) so it's just useless for me, it was better 3 yers ago when licenses were sold separately...
by the way does anyone know anything about DV2 series?
... ouch, it will come only in March, so it will be in my country only by June... that sucks
but i really looks good.
i wish it was on intel's cpu, not amd -
In Sweden it's posible to order the DV3550 to a price of ~8000SEK/~980$ which make me want it really bad!! =D Such a nich machine!! The only thing i'm missing is a little bit better gaming preformance, but I guess you can't get it all...
//R -
hey guys, I'm the owner of a new dv3507ea... I have to say the black print on the keys is completely unuseable... Disaster... if you are thinking of getting one of these models, I would advise you to either look out for a keyboard with white print or only get the backlit model where possible... I couldn't believe how dark the keys were when I bought it... Really disappointed with that aspect... Otherwise great machine...
Just my two cents -

what an awesome notebook i was looking for a little small notebook that i could use in my bed/take on the go and there isnt anything quite like this i especially like the Backlit keyboard its tough to get it here in canada though.(unfair because we have best buy too)
So if you had to rate the backlit keyboard on a scale of 1-10 what would you say? Also what are the other 13" or less notebooks with a backlit keyboard, thanks a bunchand congrats to all of you on this notebook
-
There is also new MacBook which is 13.3" and also goes with such keyboard... and it has now official utility which enables you to install any Windows you like on it without any problem. I wish it had same keyboard layout as regular notebooks and i still can't understand why they couldn't add cardreader in it... also missing a fingerprint reader as an optionotherwise i'd have bought it already and installed Vista on it...
Or you just can buy any notebook and attach Logitech's keyboards with backlightjust joking.
Sorry for mistakes as English is my 3rd language...
Regards. -

thank you for the info anyway i appreciate you taking your time to help me that really means alot to me.
Anyway the E4300 is INSANELY expensive theres no way id pay that much and sadly im in canada so we dont have an outlet where i can get a cheap price on it its soming soon to the US outlet.
The macbook i thought that one had backlit keys now i guess that can be an option either way if i get it im putting windows 7 on it for surethe thing i hate about the macbook is there are NO ports i mean the macbook has like 1 or 2 usb ports and i believe there is no HDMI either
Thanks alot for the help though i appreciate it -
@ Red_Dragon
No problem. I can't get asleep here anyway though it's 2am here nowso spending my time on getting RepPower here
joking again - i'm always glad to help (especially as i'm also trying to get myself 12-13" notebook with backlight keyboard)
As i said earlier E4300 is tooooo expensive everywhere... i just don't get it with their prices... same story with Vaio Z series (wish they have started offering backlight keyboard too already) - they make money only on brand but quality isn't THAT better than others (saying that as i worked in service fixing notebooks for 2 years).
As for macbook - yes it has only 2 USBs, it has no HDMI (i'm not going to use that anyway), it has no cardreader (that really sucks as it's a cheap thing which could be placed inside - i don't like carrying additional stuff with my notebook all the time), no fingerprint reader, keyboard is different from regular PCs (i found it a bit hard to get used to that some buttons are missing from it), and i was disappointed by their new Multi-Touch trackpad with hidden left/right buttons.
As for Windows 7 - it can be easily installed on it (using utility by Apple called "BootCamp")
If i'm lucky enough i'll be getting one of dv3600 in two weeks, if no - i don't know what to do...q210 is great by cost/configuration but it is missing backlight KB, fingerprint reader, KB is ugly and case is too glossy. DV2 series will be available only in aprox, 5 months and no fingerprint nor backlight... Dell and Sony are too expensive.... really i don't understand manufacturers - i wish they had read more forums to see that people really need in quality and configurations... -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
+rep for Xmas,
DV3600? Wait is that an updated version? Or a Typo?
lol i wish they readed the forum as well all Best Buy Blue Label notebooks have backlit keyboards but there are only 2 available this dv3500 and that nice but ugly toshiba
Also the Studio XPS 13 is nice but its way too costly i think -
Oh, thanks
DV3600 - it is same dv3500 but with backlight keyboard (i could find no other changes, but there must be some minor ones i think - otherwise it's illogical).
Which Toshiba are you talking about? we don't have any in our country with such KB.
dell is crazy with their pricesi hate our country - even that XPS is without such KB
we got very small variety of notebooks' models and almost none of them can be customized as you wish - only ready models in which you can't change anything
