I got 3900 something, just under 4000. I'm using 32-bit Vista and Nvidia 177.72 drivers from LaptopVideo2Go.com.

Chaz et. all who have done the 3DMark06 - what resolution are you doing it at?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
I'm doing it at the default 1280x1024 resolution. Maybe those 4500 score are coming from machines using 1280x800 res? -
Please correct me if I am wrong in thinking this laptop cannot do 1280x1024 on its own screen. -
We should make the standard 1280x800 b\c most ppl will have that resolution or higher.
Chaz if its possible to change your resolution to 1280x800 for the 3dmark06, see how much higher you lappy will score. -
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
I will run 3DMark06 at 1280x800 right now and see what I get. -
Hi all, I only have the free version of 3DMark06 which does not allow you to change any test settings. The default resolution is 1280 x 1024. The highest score I achieved with the dv5t T9600 CPU and Nvidia 9600M GT video was 4077. When I compared to the Australian scores, I was higher in the CPU scores, but lower in SM scores. It would be nice to find out if the Aussie tests were indeed in 1280 x 800, as I think that would explain the 423 point difference. Off to home depot, check back with you all laters.

Guys - I got 4384 marks at 1280x800.
Now this is all making sense.
The difference was due to the resolution.Attached Files:

Although I won't be a dv5t user, I was worried about you guys.... good...
Is that high enough to beat other gaming laptops? -
Thats great news... If I ran the free trial 3dmark06 and my resolution is 1280x800 (not the1600x1024)would the program automatically change to 1280x800 b\c it wouldnt be able to do 1280 by 1024.
Nwperformance If you ran the program at 1280x800 I have a feeling you would have gotten a really high benchmark with your fast cpu -
Just thought I would also add that the scores that are being posted for the 9600GT DDR 2 in the HP are better than the 8600GT DDR 3 (not OC'd). I know that some people were complaining about the scores a few dozen pages ago...
The link below is to the review of the Asus G1s and it scored 3816 AT 1024X768.

Whether the 9600GT number are what everyone expected...well I guess that is another story. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
His CPU is similar in performance to mine - T7500 2.2GHz vs. P8400 2.26GHz. Discounting driver differences, the 9600M-GT at stock in the dv5t is 15 - 20% faster than the 8600M-GT according to 3DMark06 (stock clocks).
Something important to keep in mind about the video card memory types - DDR2 = GDDR3 performance at the same clockspeed, since they provide the same amount of bandwidth. GDDR3's advantage is that it can clock higher than DDR2, so gains will only be apparent at higher memory speeds. -
yea but on the m1530 review the 3dmark06 score was 4332, what was the resolution on that? What if the resolution was 1280x1024, would the dell have a higher score if the resolution was set to 1280x800 in benchmarking.

Hello all
I've been following this thread for a couple of days, and I've just got word from FedEx that my dv5t has shipped (it's in Alaska now).
Quick question: What is the performance gain from doing a clean install? I botched an xp clean install 2 years ago and I'm kinda queasy about trying it again. -
-
-
anyone ordered one with the HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner? would this be enough to hook up a Playstation 2 to it?
-
All right, so I'm basically selling my current zv6000 and getting an Asus EEE 4g with the instant rebate money from the dv5t and the money from this. I was wondering like...I'm getting 3gb of ram with the dv5t. So basically it's gonna come in a 2gb stick and a 1gb stick. I was wondering if i could just buy a 2gb stick of memory online and if it could work in conjunction with the 2gb memory that came with the HP to begin with. If this would work, I would then try to put the 1gb stick into the Asus and I'm wondering if that would be compatible as well.

>< I recently installed my wireless bluetooth mouse and everytime window starts I get this HID data stopped working message . Does anyone know how to fix this?
-
Hi all, I was able to get 3DMark06 to run at 1280 x 800 and guess what... 4599 woo hoo. I think the mystery is solved. Now I want to see what bloat ware I can get rid of to push it over 4600. I am starting to think I should have stuck with this processor after all. Will be interesting when the P8600 shows up to see how the benchmark changes. I suppose I could switch out processors....hmmmm. Anyway, off to bed. Good night and talk with ya all in the morning. Hasta

Well, after my first call with HP, they told me that they were shipping me a new keyboard, which turned out to be false...not that I'm surprised' it didn't seem right to me that they were going to do that. Anyway, they're going to replace the notebook so that it hopefully will have an U.S. keyboard instead of a French one
They think it should arrive around August 17th...which is going to push it since I'm leaving for school on the 19th. I hope they're on time.
I'm using a Logitech V470 Bluetooth mouse and have not had any problems with the errors other people have been reporting. Sorry that I can't help much. -
From the t8600 to the t9600 you are probably getting 250-300 benchmarks more! The t9600 2.8ghz is one of the fastest cpu's you can get in a notebook. Its also good to hear the 64 bit wasnt lowering your benchmark #'s.
-
has anyone OC'd the 9600 gt? it seems that the 9600gs can't be OC'd
-
-
ok i'm about to order hp dv5t within a week.. and i'm still wondering should i
get 32 bit(compatibility) vs 64 bit vista(to take full 4gb advantage?) and
p8600(2.4ghz) or t9400(2.53ghz)? because i heard about benchmark and
heat problem and so on... and 1280x800 infinity or 1680x1050 infinity??
lastly should i get zalman nc1000 in case or overheating...??
srry that i have too much question but it's my first laptop so i'll be glad if you
guys could help me lol. -
i was wondering what is the reliability of an hp laptop is? one, two or three years... Also is the infinity display worth $50? Is the heating thing going to be a problem?
-
1) Consensus seems to be that 64 bit is good at this point.
2) What will you be using your computer for? For most people the P8600 will be more than they will need.
3) If your eyes are bad then probably 1280x800; if they are good and you like more desktop space, then 1680x1050. I personally like the latter...
4) For normal operation, I don't think you need to worry about the heat. If you are playing some demanding games, the NC1000 could not hurt. That said; I think that on post 244 on this thread, Chaz demonstrates that a minor adjustment keeps the temperatures at an acceptable level.
Good luck...looks like this will be my new lappy as well. -
I'd go to Best Buy to take a look at the Infinity Display to see for yourself. -
Can someone give the link for the free 3dmark06 program.
-

Nw what are you getting in your new laptop and when is it gonna be shipped by. Im intrested on the deifferent benchmark results.

Hey David -
I think the performance drop should be very low, and I don't think you'll experience any significant changes overall.
Do let us know! -

People who got the 1680 x 1050 resolution do you think im missing out by getting the 1280x800 res.? When you play games do you play at full 1680 x 1050 res. or at 1280x800. For multi tasking i dont need the higher res.. im just worried if I should of got the higher res for gaming.
-
I know some games (source based ones) will run brilliantly at 1680x1050 but I don't expect it to do well on more rigorous games. I jsut wanted the higher res. for HD movies, SC2 and Diablo 3 (haha), and thats about it. I figured I might as well go for it but the lower res. is still plenty good enough imo

Infinity really worth it? I want more ram but 1200 is my budget -
Hey all,
I just had a quick noobie question bout the Blu-Ray rom. Do I still need it to play Blu-ray movies and HD movies I already have on my hard-drive? or is the Blu-ray rom just to play movies from blu-ray discs?
thanx in advance -
bemuse, i had the student discount and the 5% off coupon but that was it. You have the upgraded processor showing so that's an extra $100 right there so I think we are getting the same deal
Actually it wa $1,181 but nvm. And about the ram but upgrade it yourself. I went with 3 gigs cus it was just an extra 50 but don't pay the extra 100 more for the 4th gig. -
Correct .... -
Thanks for your response SWIB. I edited my build again because I didn't want infinity. Also took your advice.

Infinity would get annoying because I don't like extra reflection/glare. Seems like a feature for people who just web browse.
Going for 3 gigs, 4 is a ripoff from HP.
Question for current owners: I plan on reformatting and reinstalling Vista as soon as I get it to get rid of bloatware. Are there any tips for this process?
Do up-to-date drivers come in a cd with the box? Are these the preferred ones to use? Do I need to change any options so that my games run as best as they can (besides overclocking)? Any compatibility issues I need to be aware of? (I'm going for 64 bit, not sure what trouble that brings) -
I finally took the plunge and ordered the dv5t today! I'm pretty stoked about it, did alot of reading and comparison with other laptops and decided for the price vs performance this couldn't really be beat.
I thought about the dv7t but it had a longer build time and I needed it sooner. Hopefully I made a good choice.
Now I just have to wait as it won't be built until the 12th and then shipped after that; maybe I'll have it by the 17th? -
bemuse I would just get the free 2 GB upgrade and save the money and use it on the newegg deal by chaz to buy the 4 GB on 2 DIMMS for around 50 bucks instead of paying an extra 50 bucks for 3 gb. Also the 6Mb cache vs 3Mb cache dosen't improve performance that much, I think chaz explained it earlier in this thread, which could potentially knock another $100 or something....but thats a personal choice.
-
-
Great link there, thanks.
What's this 50$ new egg deal for 4 gigs? Link? -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Here's the link to that RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227251
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400 for $82 - $25 MIR = $57 + $7 ship = $64 total. Great deal. I remember two years ago I paid $110 for a 1GB stick of DDR2-533 for my Sager.
Check the Newegg link I posted for the RAM deal. Get the minimum from HP and then upgrade aftermarket for less. -
I read over many pages of the thread and have newer concerns.
64bit Vista drivers....Is there a set for the dv5t that works well?
64bit hurts performance? Wtf?
The t9400 runs hotter than the 8600? Should I "downgrade"?
If I "downgrade" to 32-bit, will 3 gb ram be sufficient for performance?
Note: Lets assume I use this computer often and will be running programs on it the majority of the time.
