Dude it's under warrantly. You get a year when you buy the laptop. Call HP Technical support and after 45 minutes on the phone with them they will authrorize a warranty repair. They send you a box with a prepaid label to send the laptop back to them. You'll have it back in no time. I've already done this twice. Once with my DV5T about 2 months ago and my brothers just last week. They both overheated and the motherboards had to be replaced. Mine also needed the hard drive replaced as well. These things run hot. But anyways...I sent his laptop out Friday and had it back the following Wednesday. It's wicked fast.

    Good luck!

I live on Guam though. An island. Soo...

As for the HD, they said that that wasn't the problem.

Someone on Laptopvideo2go claimed that they could overclock with the F. 13 bios update with 181.22 dox. I'm about to try.

Sounds like a hard disk failure to me too. Bad sectors or corrupted data in the MBR & the OS. Try to do a complete recovery from the recovery DVD's.

If the system is still under warranty (I wouldn't know, as you bought if off e-bay. Was it factory new, etc.?), you should be able to use warranty coverage. I don't know why Guam should be any different than any other place?

First, I am able to overclock my 9600m with the F.11 BIOS using those drivers. This is a driver overclock and not a BIOS overclock.

Second, 972????? are you sure? this is DDR2 memory.

I was just running Visual Studio 2008 and listening to the radio through iTunes. I have the Nvidia 9600GT but that doesn't matter as I wasn't gaming or anything. Anyway, I was on a wireless network and lost the connection. iTunes kept trying to "rebuffer" the stream and froze up on me. Then the fan got really loud. Couldn't bring up Task Manager. Ctrl + Alt + Del didn't work so I did a hard shutdown, rebooted, and then it said "Hard Disk does not exist" at the boot up screen. Motherboard & Hard Drive fried.

And also, Justing...Guam shouldn't matter. If the laptop was bought off ebay it must have been shipped to you. I'm pretty sure you could ship it back to HP. Fed Ex is just about everywhere these days. That shouldn't be an issue at all.

Generally, the battery is in a separate box, within your shipping box. The battery is generally at about 1/2 charge, so you could just put the battery in & turn it on, but I wouldn't.

I don't know the weather where you are, so I'll assume you're in North Dakota in the US (very cold!!!). I'd unpack everything, and let it rest at room temperature for about two hours. Then, I'd put the battery in, plug everything in, and turn things on. It'll take about 2 hrs to fully charge your battery. Your charger will get quite warm. It'll take at least that much time to personalize Vista; install updates; & burn your recovery DVD's.

Think about propping up the back of your computer about 1/2" or so.

    Enjoy!

    :(bad memory :(

But I'm going by L4D stability which seems to be the most sensitive game there is for OC'ing. I'd like to see people with 550 memory try L4D and play for 2 hours without a crash.

Any idea what could be causing my screen to flicker? I've had my dv5t since early August and haven't experienced any problems up until yesterday. The flickering goes away after about 10 minutes, but it's still annoying as hell. I didn't change any settings or anything, so it a hardware problem of some sort?

I believe he is referring to the fact that 972 divided by 2 is 486. So he believes you can only overclock your DDR2 memory to 486mHz. My dv5 maxs out at 510Mhz. I play at 500 with no issues. (I still wish the dv5 came with DDR3 memory :D )

I still have to use the "Force Performance Mode" but I set up multiple clock speeds. A low speed 200/400/200 for 2D and startup, a default 500/1000/400, and an overclock 625/1300/500.

I have Rivatuner setup to autostart on bootup and force my low speed clocks at startup. Then switch to default or overclock speeds to play games.

I would think this could point to a hardware issue, yes.

Could be a bad connection from the LCD to systemboard, a bad LCD, or even a bad motherboard.

Interesting that it goes away after 10 minutes. Like it has "warmed" up.

Thanks for the idea, how can I go about doing this? Is it a launcher item coupled with a scheduler item? How do you get the 3d clockspeeds to automatically go up when playing a game? I set 200/400/200 for startup and resume from sleep, but I'm just using the launcher menu to change my clock speeds for games- wish it could autodetect games for profiles :(

I just use the launcher for now. But I was planning to look into seeing if there was a way to autodetect a 3D game or Full Screen mode.

The system monitor tool hard crashed my computer every time I went to the control panel, so I uninstalled everything. Overclocking didn't seem to work either, but I didn't try it after restarting (though it didn't say I needed to).

I found your guide as well and it was very helpful, but since I am running XP on my system I needed to use a newer BIOS version as one of them fixes in issue for a LCD brightness issue in XP.

I believe the F.05 allows BIOS overclocks and I use RivaTuner to perform a driver overclock. Possible?

I followed the guide on this forum (there are a couple). For the BSOD issue you need to slip stream SP3 and the Intel SATA/ACHI drivers onto the XP CD. The guides can help with that. I for one already have an XP SP2 CD from a business class notebook that I was able to use.

Now, there are some features that still do not work for me, but I don't care.

Hey, I updated to the last Fingerprint Validity Sensor drivers and now the reader isnt detected, I even get a permanent "Safely Remove Hardware" Icon on my taskbar with the fingerprint reader to be "removed" but its not detecting it, I even uninstalled all drivers related to it, uninstalled Digital Persona and did it all again and its still not working, and when I try to install older drivers it just tries to install new ones and cant make it work!

So I just got my DV5t a few days ago. I've done a clean install of vista x64 but I'm having some troubles with drivers. I installed the older Intel chipset drivers but Intel(R) ICH9M LPC Interface Controller - 2919 doesn't have a driver.

Also, I've been having some sound stuttering issues. I get audio stuttering and almost popping with itunes and the voices in fallout 3 tend to stutter a bit and pop here and there. I don't have any problems with audio from youtube. According to device manager i have Nvidia High Definition Audio and IDT High Definition Audio Codec.

I want to try to uninstall the IDT codec but I don't know how. I think it downloaded from windows update, is there a way to remove windows updates?

Has anyone else experienced audio problems after a fresh install?

    Thansk

I have not had that problem but I did see a post on one of the threads that mentioned NOT to let Windows Update load your IDT sound driver as it has a power save mode that causes your speakers to pop.

I would suggest trying to install the latest IDT drivers of the HP website to see if they "fix" your issue.

I would guess that anyone on these forums who wanted to overclock their dv5t have read the guides and are happily playing the latest games with their overclocked 9600m.

And since the dv5t has been discontinued I don't foresee a large amount of new users for the dv5t looking to overclock. :)

I have reviewed the guides but did not want to downgrade my BIOS. I have found that the latest version of RivaTuner (ver. 2.22) works great without the hassle of flashing your BIOS.

Off subject on the Graphics but I got a serious issue with HP INFINITY DISPLAYS!!!

Do Not Get The INFINITY SCREEN! I just got scammed by HP today because I got the Infinity Display and this display is nice and everything but gave me two major problems. First is that Dust gets trapped between the two screens and that with the Infinity display, your keys will hit the screen which will cause blemishes.

HP s did not want to cover my laptop by warranty because they said it was due to physical damage, but honestly it was because it is a design flaw and many others with the screen also came about the same problems as me.

So, if you do have the Infinity Screen and have blemishes or dust, call them and complain!!!! Seriously call them, because I made them put that issue on a "ISSUE TRACKER" and if more people join me and complain, then they will put that screen in RECALL and have it replaced with a new screen. Even if you had the screen and damaged it trying to take out the dust, they will fix it as well for you. So call them, complain, tell them that you and many others with the screen have dust, and hopefully they will recall the screen and put brand new screens on out notebooks!!!

So call HP and complain if you have DUST or KEY BLEMISHES on your screen!!! They won't replace it right away, they just need to know that it is a very common problem and that there is a flaw in their design!

Also, does anyone else have the same problem and called HP about it because I don't believe the Case Manager. He said that have dust in the screen was unusual and not common but on this website it is very common.

If you did talk to HP about your problem, contact me because I'd like to know what they told you. [email protected]

I have not tested any other driver version at this time.

That sucks. I did not get the Infinity Display due to the dust issue and I saw no need to buy an extra piece of plastic that goes over my LCD. NOW if they offered the Infinity Display with a dual lamp option, I might of been interested.

I can understand how the display would get marked up due to the keys on those Infinity Displays. not good.
