Has no one encountered this problem and been able to fix it, or do most of you run without aero glass?

Are you running an updated graphics driver? If windows doesn't know what kind of graphics you have it will disable aero. -
No, I am running the original Nvidia 9600m GT graphics driver. Windows Aero glass was working as well as windows color when I got the laptop. The option to select Aero glass has disappeared in the past couple of weeks.
-
I got 88 CPU peak too after playing for less than an hour but GPU max was 72 (celsius). My laptop is a bit lifted, though, allowing more air to circulate bellow it. I have an external fan but it was turned off during this test.
-
Install new drivers. 182.05 from laptopvideo2go are great

Alright thanks for those results. I'll lift the back end up and see what kind of results i get then. I'm just scared the HP realized that these devices wouldn't handle well with the 9600GT and that's why they don't offer this model with that anymore. Not enough to warrant a recall but enough to make them stop offering it. -
I'm really happy with my dv5t right now. I was worried about heating and buying a cooler was the last thing I wanted to do but luckily it seems like mine keeps really cool.
After 4 hours of Crysis I was surprised to see the max GPU temp was only 71 C. The CPU (t5800) was only slightly higher at 76 C.
For shorter (1-2) hour gaming sessions the GPU rarely hits 70 C and the CPU stays around 70 C.
The only problem I have is the stupid audio crackling/stuttering/popping. Sometimes it's really bad, sometimes it's perfect. Whenever I reboot the computer a fairly loud static pop comes out of the speakers. It's really noticeable with external speakers. Has this problem been solved yet? I'm thinking it might be hardware because it's popping on a reboot when neither the bios or windows is running. -
Turn off power management options in the IDT control panel.
I don't think that's the issue, it's been some manufacturing problems that they haven't cleared up possibly. My DV5T's very overclocked (675/1600/522) 9600M GT stays between 70-79 C playing L4D, Dead Space, after 3 hours- in a warm room without the end propped up. -
what software do u use to mesure temperature ???
-
Rivatuner and RMClock, which I also use to undervolt.

Hi everyone, I have a pavilion dv5 - 1161 (named 3070ro in my country) with Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26 GHz),15,4 WXGA BV,4GB (2x2GB),320/5400GB,DVDRW DL LS,HDMI,BT,Nvidia Geforce 9600GT, Wireless Intel WiFi Link 5100,3D sb Altec Lansing, Webcam,Vista Home Premium,
and I'm not satisfied at all with Vista while a bunch of my programs doesn't work on Vista. I can't even install my printer, a canon mp160. So I'm determined to downgrade to XPsp2. Primary I want to make a set of recovery disc, then I want to repartition my hdd because I have an 300Gb first partition and to install XPsp2.
My first question is if the recovery disc are made from my existent partition (C), or from my recovery partition (D), because I already have 150 Gb of my personal data in C.
The HP website doesn't provide any support for Windows Xp so someone please tell me where I can find the needed driver please?
I think I need first the SATA driver for XP install, and afterward the chipset, audio, video and network drivers.
I realise that probably no XP drivers were ever manufactured for my system, but I hope that someone could point me to another model of HP with the same hardware configuration.
I have to say to you that I wanted to downgrade to xp from the first day I bought my laptop, but I decided to give Vista another chance - until now.
Sorry for my english and I hope that you could help me.
Thanks in advance. -

God it was a HUGE pain in the to install XP on mine (I am doing a dual boot Windows 7 / XP). It took me 8 hours to get everything running. You'll need to slipstream SATA drivers into an XP install- I would recommend SP2 to avoid the of installing the UAA on SP3. Gooooood luck. -
Nice that the new bios allows for overclocking...
It's a pity I'm unsure as to how to update my bios... Hp tech is no help, it says follow onscreen instructions it opens up a flashing program that asks, which bios do i have and which do i want to install... problem is how do i find out which bios i am using etc, a step by step guide would be much appeciated!! Thnx in advance
Edit: It turns out the boxes are non-fillable and it does that automatically.. sorry all -
Thanks for your promp aswer but unfortunately your laptop is very diferent from mine. I have an Intel platform very diferent from ypur AMD. I will try network, webcam and sound, maybe they will match. Any other opinions??

i have downloaded the bios update sp41812, but it is taking along time since

oh, mine is an intel also
Here is your chipset driver: http://www.intel-driver.com/Intel-drivers/driver_1037.html
Check this thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=291787
Really once you get the XP installed with the BSOD you'll be able to do everything easilly- as long as your network connection works (mine didn't) -
i have xp and downloaded the new bios e.g F.13
but didn't try to install it yet , and your post isn't encouraging at all

how can i extract and install the Bluetooth driver manually?
-
my dv5 is working fine now (thanks to Allah)
i only tried to update my Bios because my brightness controls do not automatically work after installing XP, and they still do not, so i do not think that u should try to update ur Bios (my heart almost stopped) -
my brightness worked fine after the xp installation
it's something with your drivers , not related to BIOS at all -
jibe, back home (pakistan) this sort of issue is common place, cuz ppl do not and will not realise the importance of earthing the socket and then come to vendors after a couple of months with complains of RAM/HDD failing prematurely...anywho, the slap-dash way of working around this was
try a proper socket with a three pin outlet (actually having the ground wire afixed to it (normally aircons...window units need the grounding wire, so it was a simple fix to get a wire traced from the aircon into the wall socket)
secondly connect a plain insulated wire to the pc's chassis (like wrapping it into b/w the screw holding the body panel in place) and connecting th other wire to a metal frame afixed into concrete or other ground sources
now i am not going to take any responsibilty if this were to go awry by some freak of nature, but this is an interim solution, by NO MEANS a permanent one
i am a medical doctor by profession, pc's are a hobby of mine, and since it was mighty expensive in pakistan, i took all the necessary care

i read somewhere here about the cracking sound on the speaker but i couldnt find it anymore. can someone give me the link? or does anybody know how to fix it? thanks
-
You know there's a search.
-
@eason
thanks for the quick reply. i tried searching but couldnt isolate the page. thanks again. -
I am on a three-pin outlet... I prefer not to use the home-made remedy that you described, partially because I did not understand it. I moved down from my room to out dining room, and it is much better, pretty much no shocks, besides an occasionally static electricity shock. This kinda sucks, because I like being in my room. There was an addition being put onto my house right next to my room, and it turns out the contractor didn't do such a great job (some of the things he did even went against building codes :O ), so maybe that has something to do with it. Thanks for the advice!

Could you tell me please exactly what driver did you use in your windows xp?
I noticed that you have the same laptop as mine, and I want to downgrade to xp too. I think I found some of drivers I will need, but I want to be sure. Thank you in advance. -
Hey guys, the mute button on my dv5's quick touch buttons is stuck on orange. It still works, however the light is stuck on orange. Anyone know what I can do to alleviate this?
Cheers. -
try upgrading your drivers to the newest ones in the hp dv5 driver thread
that fixed the issue for me -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Alright my dv5t is having more issues. It sounds like something is wrong with one of my fans and its making a terrible racket whenever the computer is on. I figure I'll give HP a call but I wanted to come here and see if anyone has had any experiences like this. I got it in August when they came out so I wonder what kind of charges I'd get if I have to sent it in. The fan issue may be linked to my computers abnormal temperatures.
-
Cool, if only I could locate the thread...Anyone have a link please?
-
all the drivers that i have used are from this thread

i hope this can help u -
Awesome, thank you

OK I am running Vista 64 and the Nvidia 9600m GT (512ram). I tried updating to the latest Nvidia driver on the HP website and got a blue screen of death during the install. The laptop runs ok, ran the windows experience index and my Graphics dropped from 5.0 to 4.4.
My next try was to go to Nvidia and download the latest 179.49 driver, got the blue screen again on install, so I installed successfully in safe mode. Deleted all the files for the windows experience index and ran it again and Graphics dropped from 4.4 to 4.3. Still no aero and I think that the WEI is not recognizing my Nvdia graphics card.
Any suggestions?
Thanks -
make sure you dont have a program open that is incompatible with Aero, could be a hidden process or systray program
-
I think I am getting closer to finding what the problem is. Even though my "Desktop Windows manager" and "Themes" appear to be running I checked the Windows event viewer and found this in the log, happens on startup or reboot:
"The desktop windows manager was unable to start because a mirroring driver is in use"
I checked my display drivers in device manager and found 2 drivers:
HP RC Mirror Driver
NVidia GeForce 9600m GT
Can someone with the same Nvidia card that has aero working check device manager-display to see if they have HP RC Mirror driver there? Does anyone know what the heck it is there for?
Thanks -
don't update your graphics card drivers from the HP website...
-
Nope, uninstall that.
-
Eason, are you responding to this:
Can someone with the same Nvidia card that has aero working check device manager-display to see if they have HP RC Mirror driver there? Does anyone know what the heck it is there for?
If yes, would disabling the driver serve the same puropose? I use Remote desktop to access my company hard drive from hotels etc, wonder if it might be related? -
You could try disabling it. Also, try doing a bare bones msconfig startup selection. And also, don't use the HP website drivers. Use these: http://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23156 They're WHQL.
-
I disabled the "HP RC Mirror" driver in the Display Drivers leaving only the NVidia driver active and behold AERO glass now works! I will use the laptop for a couple of weeks before I actually delete that driver.
Thanks for your help! -
No problem, I don't know how you got that driver in the first place, never heard of it.
-
I am not sure how I got it. I run (Vista 64 laptop) remote desktop to our corporate computer (XP Pro) both on the net (from home and hotels) and ethernet when I am at corporate office. I use their printers when there on ethernet connection. I had to install Vista 64 printer drivers on my laptop in order to print on the corp printers that are all HP. Could it be possible that HP RC Mirror is on my machine in order to allow me to view the HP print status?
That's about all I can think of, waddaya think?
Or it could be some crap that was installed in a recent HP Support session I had to resolve another problem. HP Rep did some sort of webex session on my machine. -
Does the dv5t come with a media reader by default, or is that a customizable add-on?
-
First of all, here is the 64-bit driver: Vista 64-bit vid drivers
And also, how do you install drivers? I still have the factory installed one. Also, how much performance gain are we looking at here? -
If you mean card reader, yeah. It comes by default with a card reader. Also 4 USB ports, 1 of them also working as e-SATA.

Hey Guys I Haven't been on the forum in a good long while. Can anyone get me up to speed on what the current "best" drivers for the 9600M GT are? I know theres a lot of opinion involved but still aha. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I already use LaptopVideo2Go but their forums don't have much comparing drivers on this card. -
hi!
I have a question, there's a process called audiodg.exe (described as windows audio device graph isolation in task manager) and it's taking up a huge amount of ram!!! (about 500MB, see picture attached)
is that normal? or maybe a driver problem?
and what is this process anyway?
I didn't do a clean install btw...
Thanks!Attached Files:

Tal12586 - While the process is legit I am 99% sure it shouldn't be using 1/2 GB of Ram (no background process should be using that much considering Windows itself only uses 512MB-1024MB (1/2GB-1GB) and I can't remember any time the Audiodg.exe process took up that much ram, unfortunatly right now the Audiodg.exe process isn't showing up for me (which is odd because I know it has before altho I updated my Audio drivers today off of HP's site). Infact I have no "Local System" processes showing online my personal processes and unlabeled 3 (rundll32.exe, winlogon.exe, csrss.exe) But yeah anyways Sorry I don't have any true "solid" info on the situation.
Everybody- Question One: I've another question, do any other DV5T users have an issue where any Media Playback stops when the lid is closed (the computer doesn't go to sleep only media stops and then starts immediately when the lid is opened back up.) I thought maybe it was the HP ProtectSmart HDD Protection but it happens to youtube videos too. Normally it wouldn't matter but my itouch got recked so sometimes I walk around the house listening to my music over my headphones. (since trips in the house are usually just to a different room) but yeah its kind of annoying even more so since I know my old DV6500Z didn't do this. I'm pretty sure it's suppose to do this but I need to know how to stop it any help is appreciated thanks.
Everybody- Question Two: I've had a problem with every now and then Explorer suddenly using around 50% of each CPU Core. If I kill the explorer.exe process and restart it the issue goes away until i've restarted the system (it doesnt happen at every boot up tho it is completely random and can be 2 days after boot before it returns it just cant return unless there has been a system restart) I have tried reinstalling windows entirely but the same problem returns. It has to be a driver issue or possibly one of my programs (ive so many tho and no real time to test) it would narrow it down to software or drivers if anyone could tell me if they have the same
problem on this system. Thanks.
Edit: Tal12586 I just found a site with an issue comparable to yours when using vista here is the link.
http://www.vistax64.com/sound-audio/181392-memory-leak-problem-audiodg-exe-need-help.html
Edit2: Tal12586 I got my task manager to show the audiodg.exe process and sure enough yours is leaking somewhere or something. mines at 11,804K for the screen shot look a few posts further into the forum for another post starting with your name. (AKA post #5256)
Also Anyone with answers to the question two posts up from this would be helpful. Thanks AGAIN aha -
I got this annoying clicking sound that constantly goes off.
Its the sound the notebook makes with you move the volume slider up and down. I think theres a problem or even worse maybe a virus. When I look at the taskbar and click on volume, the small slider keeps jumping up and down even when im not touching the volume slider.
The clicking sounds are very annoying. Now one time when, the computer became very slow, I checked task manager and under the services tab there was a image called audiodg.exe which was USING OVER 1GB of physical memory. I disabled it and the clicking immediately went away, and the computer went back to normal. However, I was left without sound....
I restarted the computer and the clicking noise came back... Any help? I tried updating drivers, but it didnt help. Now also, I just did a clean install of my computer a week ago. This problem came up a few days ago. and my computer never had this problem b4 the clean install.
