yea possibly i got mine a day early.
-
The only info I have right now from HP is that the estimated build is the 14th. No info on an estimated ship or delivery were sent to me yet. Im assuming once its already built ill find that out. -
i got my laptop dv5t, 2 days before build date so far i love this thing. I have had it since the 6th and it runs great.
Specs:
2.53 x2
4 gb ram
250 gb hdd
9600 gt nvidia
1280 x 800 screen infinity
it runs everything very smooth and no lag, only issue is it does run a little warm and battery life isnt the best but i wasn't expecting much with the 9600 gt in it
by the way chaz, 32 bit os even if it can see 4 gb can only use 3.2 no matter how much it can see. Just has to do with some computer programing issues -
Here's a clean install question:
Does the dv5t come with the WAU folder, as described in the clean install thread? If not, where's the best place to get the Vista Media? It's seems I can't find it anywhere. I'd love to do a clean install.
I think I may have the WAU folder on my desktop. I should be able to burn and use that as the clean install disk, correct? -
-
Anyways, so your estimated build date was today (August 8th) but received it on the 6th?! -

here are my current temps from just a half hour of basic email surf and forum stuff:
Core 0: 59, Core 1: 55, GPU:59, HDD: 43, ACPI: 60 -
T series does use more wattage, and runs slightly warmer you couldn't tell the difference between p and t for heat. The 9600m Gt is the big heat, if you dont plan on gaming, video editing or doing graphical work get the 9200 ( its still better than intergrated )
and yes it did come in real early, i love hp -
wait doesnt the dv5 intel come with the 9600M GS?
Instead of GT?
whats teh difference -
-
so im assuming then that the Nvidia 9200 GS is the best choice for a balance?
because integrated is usually not great (althought there are advances) and the 9600 will be a battery killer.
correct? -
-
ill be using the laptop for college, i need it to last at least one hour and fifteen minutes a day on battery.
does it last that long if im just typing, not using it for multimedia?
and how much can i eck out of it if im just browsing the web with settings turned down/on battery save mode? -
-
....well thanks for the information
i guess i should carry the ac adapter with me
or invest in a second battery/12 cell when it comes out -
can someone tell me what is the memory of 9600 gt GDDR2 or GDDR3
-
does anybody own zalman nc 1000? how's the temperature drop before and after running a cooling pad. At normal work & intense gaming?
also, is crysis playable on medium/high if i use dx9 and lower resolution??
thks.
i can't wait to order my dv5t tomorrow lol. -
Hello all,
I am from India and leaving for the US on the 19th. Most of you have bought the additional 4GB ram from newegg. Its a good deal and I want to buy it from there as well. But, I was wondering how to install it in the DV5t? Are there any shops which can do this or will I be able to do it myself? Are there any safe DIYs available for this?
Someone please explain the procedure. I want to benefit from the deal but at the same time dont want to mess up my new laptop.
BTW I will be studying at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. So let me know if there are any particular shops which can install the additional ram for me.
Thank you. -
it i gddr2 neverrr -
next question is it possible to play Crysis in mid to high details and what are the temperatures of video and cpu while playing games
-
I don't game all that often, but I will occasionally. This laptop will be for my 4 years in college, so battery life is rather important. Im trying to decide between the 9200 and the 9600, and im wondering what the tradeoff in battery life/heat will be between the two.
Itll be nice to have a 9600 since the option is there, but will the heat/battery life benefit alot more with the 9200? Which should I get? -
-
I mean, the 9200 wont have the best heat/battery life out there, but i just want to know if the tradeoff from it and 9600 is enough to not get the 9600. -

Hello everyone. I'm trying to find a replacement for my dv2000 and I saw a nice dv5t in the shop today. Its a 2.0 Intel Duo bla bla, 3gigs of ram, 320hdd, and the 9200M GS. Now, my girlfriend bought a dv6000 with turion dual core (2,2) and 8600 GS a few months ago. I'm trying to figure out if the 9200GS is weaker on par or better than her dv6000. I am not a serious gamer (a counter-strike here and there for example), but I would like to know if I'm paying for a weaker system than my girlfriends overall. Any opinion greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm going to install 2X2gb ram from newegg, but im not quite sure if the one im planning on getting is compatible.

Will that work, or would you recommend something else? -
yea that is the RAM i had bought and i think a lot of people buy. OCZ is a top manufacturer and with the $25 mail in rebate its a steal. -

I don't see the 9200GS on Chaz's list yet but assume it will be up shortly. According to Notebookcheck, the 9200gs is weaker than the 8600gs -
Did any of you bought a cooler for the dv5t ?
I wondering which one to buy? Zalman 2000 or others ????? -
just bought this baby for school!

I am considering two laptops to purchase ;
HP Dv5t
Sony FW
I use photoshop and maya for 3d stuff... Apart from other things I would like to play some decent games on the laptop..without them getting uber hot.. I know HP has some heating issues.. but they are offering a better configuration in a little high price i.e. nvidia card with 512 MB memory.
Can anyone please recommend which one will be a better purchase..
Thanks -

I really regret not getting the 9600M GT but I guess since my dad is footing the bill, I can't complain. I hope this will be a great laptop for school since I'll be attending UCSD as a Computer Science Major in the fall. If anyone can give me a real world experience with the 9200M GS, it'd be great. I play World of Warcraft, a few first person shooters, and really hope it's up to par with some of the computers my brothers and sister has. -
or work

To those willing to spend a little time - run wPrime (the 1024M test):
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=123570&page=1
It should take 20 - 30 minutes to run. During that time, run HWMonitor:
http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
Watch the CPU temps. Take a screenshot of the HWMonitor window when the benchmark is done so I can have proof of the temperatures (press Alt + PrintScreen, then go into Paint and press Ctrl + V to paste. Save as a .JPEG, and upload at www.imageshack.us. Then post the link to the direct image (all the way at the bottom of the page)).
If you Private Message me the complete results, I'll give you credit in the review for data submission.

On another note, I FINALLY found a Vista x64 disc, and the SHA1 hash checks out! Woo Hoo! Clean Vista install on the way!!! I'm tearing it up with vLite now, all will be nice nice on Monday!
I'm kind of getting pissed thinking how I pay for Vista, but I don't get the media. I have no problem paying for the license, but hell, the media costs like 10 cents. Let the 0.5% of us who know what we're doing just do it, and let the everyone else use microsoft mail and norton anti-virus. I understand the need for bloatware (keeps costs of the computers down), but if I'm smart enough to do a clean install, I should be able to do it, and not have to go through "other channels" to get a stupid disc. I'm not stealing or hacking anything, I just know how to use a computer. -

Thanks for the reply i wish i could replace the GPU in the sony one ... I think I will go with the HP one... -
Just ran wPrime on a T9600. Core 0 topped out at 94 C. Smokin
Thats all for now.

Hi All:
I'd just like to confirm and see what the various opinions are, and what the actual facts are, regarding the "best" and the most "suitable/proper" RAM is to upgrade the dv5t from 2gb to 4gb. the 2gb is a "free upgrade" from 1gb, when you order the dv5t now from hp.com. so, both DIMMs are used up, therefore, you have to buy 2 new sticks of 2gb each.
folks have talked about this particular OCZ:
Model: OCZ2M8004GK
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227251
OCZ Model OCZ2M8004GK
Type 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM
Capacity 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Speed DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Cas Latency 5
Timing 5-5-5-15
Voltage 1.8V
ECC No
Buffered/Registered Unbuffered
Heat Spreader No
I've read the article on the home page of this NotebookReview.com website regarding memory and found it to be very enlightening, thx to the writer!! Having read that, I'm concerned that I do NOT know the motherboard of this dv5t and other tech specs.
I do NOT wish to buy slightly incorrectly/incompatible RAM and end up compromising the performance of my dv5t. Granted, i'm getting the 32-bit Vista which only will see 3.2gb of RAM, yet, the writer of the article clearly suggests that there are benefits to 4gb even in the case of a 32-bit Vista environment.
There are also the issues of 3gb being two UNMATCHED sticks (1gb stick plus a 2gb stick): the 2gb stick would have dual channels/pipes and the 1gb stick would only have 1 channel/pipe, compromising on the speed/performance. That said, the type of mismatch is said to affect AMD processors far more so than the Intel P8400 as the Intel has designed certain ways around it, yet, it is STILL NOT RECOMMENDED if it can be avoided. So why would anyone with a brand new machine want to force themselves into using 3gb? I don't see any reason whatsoever.
So, i am about to get 2 sticks of 2gb RAM but would like to learn from you good folks here what is THE most appropriate and foolproof RAM to get for the dv5t with the P8400 processor. Core latency, timings, etc.
thanks very much in advance and look forward to hearing from you all and learning! -
