will the 9200M GS kill battery life / make the system hotter when not gaming?
(still trying to make up another 100 to get the coupon...argh...)
-
^ You'll be fine with the 9200M. It's a good compromise.

As far as modern gaming goes, the 9200M-GS won't get you very far. What kind of games are you looking to play?
-
none, really...
-
-
Yeah, so I'm loving this notebook so far.
Heat? Whatever. The half-inch lift works wonders, and yeah, it gets warm, but I won't be playing too many games. I just put Far Cry on it and it runs nice. The back left corner got nice and crispy until I lifted it up. After that it was fine.
My only gripe is the whole volume control thing. Why couldn't we just get a freakin' knob? I notice that while playing Far Cry, it doesn't work. Works fine otherwise, just a bit of a pain. Chaz, I noticed this was missing from your review...
WSXGA screen rocks, keyboard is nice, webcam is better than most. Fingerprint reader is fun. I hate touchpads, but I just ordered the Logitech VX470 bluetooth mouse. I got a Wenger Swiss Army backpack. I may get the XPad cool pad, or just maybe put it on a couple of coasters. I really don't want one of those Zalman things.
I've been getting very little sleep this week. -
k well after reading past pages 1280x800 seems perfect for what i want im doing with the laptop lol
-
How hot does it get when not playing games? Just doing basic internet, email, office stuff? Too warm to keep on your lap still? -
In a few days , I'll be heading to Purdue Uni .. Is there any use of a TV tuner out there ? I mean are there any good free to air channels out there ?
-
Just thought I'd like to mention that I'm having virtually no issues with my volume slider. Very rarely will it not register a swipe of my finger, but a quick follow-up slide and there's no problem. I think it works pretty well.

Has the $400 coupon expired. its not working for me. ****
-
Hey All,
I just bought my dv5t this morning! I'm glad I waited for the $400 coupon. I built my dream set-up, and I can't wait until it arrives. I did standard shipping because people seem to be receiving their notebook on or about the estimated build date. I am psyched to say the least. It's my own first laptop - I had used a hand me down from my Dad's old job for the last four years. It was HORRIBLE!
I'm really happy with the price, and now I'm just crossing my fingers that it comes in good condition. I leave to go back to my senior year of college on the 28th, so let's hope it arrives before the build date of August 22nd! Let me know what you guys think!

By the way, I've been planning this purchase since a week before the notebook came out. And I've read EVERY SINGLE POST IN THIS FORUM! I didn't have a job July/August since I was in New Zealand for the previous semester. Which was awesome (not the no job part)! Looking forward to seeing pictures on the cool new screen though! But that's neither here nor there haha...
Anyway, thanks everyone for their constant input in this forum, and I will still continue to frequent the site especially once my computer has arrived.

Is The Deal Still On?

At first I thought the deal was gone 'cause the coupon kept getting rejected and then I figured out that the $1299 didn't mean total purchase.

Notice received: Left FedEx in Shanghai...
Now, the wait and the constant tracking check...
Please tell me I'm not the only one with this "problem"?
Today being Friday (left Shanghai Fri 12:30PM Shanghai time, that's Friday 12:30AM Eastern), i have a feeling that it will arrive on Monday here on the east coast.
A weekend of clicking refresh on the FedEx tracking page? I can't be the only one that can't stop myself from doing this... ha ha -

So I have ordered two dv5t's and of course only need one. My question is should I open and use the one till the one I want comes or instantly call for a return. Of course I don't even know if my credit card can handle any more than the two laptops that are registered on it right now so that's a bit scary too.
-
Why did you order 2?

-
Hey, I received my dv5-1009tx yesterday, a very sweet machine indeed. (Here in AUS we only get prebuilt models, i won't post the specs on here unless someone requests them.) I have a battery question, I have a hp battery, part # EV088AA, designed for the dv2000/6000 series, I was wondering if anyone has tested this specific battery with the dv5t and can confirm if it works or not? I don't want to unseal the packaging and then have a battery which may not work. If anyone has tried this your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Joey.

I think I can fight the temptation since the laptop will come to my home and I'll be at college. Plus that means my other laptop should only be a day or two behind this one. -

Hey for all dv5t owners
,yesterday I was playing around with some settings and I found a great way to make colors look more vibrant and stand out. I have the 9600 gt idk if it will work for the other graphics cards...I thought the brightness wasnt high enough but after I did this it looks great. Heres what I did: Go to control panel, then in the search bar type nvidia and click on the Nvidia control panel, then to the left under display click on adjust desktop color settings. Then change the digital vibrance slider from 0 to around 25-30 (don't put it to high b\c it will be too much) and every thing will look great.
On the attachment I added you can see the difference, the one to the left has 0 Digital vibrance and the one to the right has 30.
Its hard to see on the attachments but if you look at the sun or the orange on the calanders zoomed in you can see a difference. Just try it yourself and you will see a big difference. Try it and tell me what you guys think.Attached Files:

When is the dv5t available in Europe?
-
Quick Question:
When I receive my new computer, do I just get all the updates from Microsoft Update or does HP have some sort of Update program? Or do I need to go to a website to download the updates? ie. GPU, bios, etc. -
-
-
Yea i see no difference whatsoever between the pictures except CPU use went up and battery went down...
-
Well actually you wouldnt be able to see a difference from the screenshots you will just have to try it yourself. Idk why they look the same though
-
i'm bummed.
hp is 4 days early in making the laptop, and it was at fedex in shanghai by 12:10pm on Friday ( = 12:10 AM Fri Eastern). BUT, supposedly, it missed the cut off.
it is rather likely now that it would sit there ALL Sat and Sun, and only make it through Chinese customs and get on a fedex flight on Monday to Anchorage!
that translates to me not getting it till most likely Wed.
shouldn't someone be working Friday from 12:15pm till at least 5pm?? -
-
Has anyone done a temperature analysis of the dv5t at:
1. idle
2. Browsing and email
3. Office apps
4. Mild Gaming
5. Hard core gaming
Just wondering, especially with the dedicated graphic cards. -
My dv5t is coming with 3GB RAM, but with Vista 64-bit. I know 64-bit is really only useful at around 3.5/4 GB and beyond (at the point where Vista 32-bit cannot see anymore RAM). Does anyone know if the 32-bit version of Vista comes on the same DVD as the 64-bit in case I want to install that?
Thanks. -
So my new dv5t is gorgeous. I love it. But I've just run into an issue--
its been the 3rd or 4th day and today my wireless won't enable. It stays red (wont turn blue) and even when I press it and the lower right notification saying "wireless enabled" and "wireless disabled" shows up.. it wont actually enable.
any suggestions? i guess i could always call HP customer service, but... -

Anyone order their dv5t with American Express? I believe if you do that, you get an extra year of standard warranty. So instead of 1, you will get 2. Can anyone confirm that?
-
sorry to disappoint, but it appears to be true. -
Steve.. when I get my dv5t.. I will do it - and I will back you up!! -

To those that actually got credit back for ordering their laptop before the $400 coupon:
What number did you call and how long did you have to wait for a representative to get a hold of you? I've been waiting 30+ and still nothing =/
And i'm still somewhat confused on what I should tell them to get the credit back so any help on that?
Thanks! -

Hey Chaz, since you posted the review, is your laptop still warm but quiet during normal daily operations? i usually download and do stuff and would like to leave it on over night for download........wondering about the noise level.
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Yes, if you use american express, they match and warranty, so you will have 2 years of warranty with your DV 5T. all my electronics purchase are made with AE. and that's not limited to 1 kind, all AE gives u that warranty.
-
I always found that being as upfront as possible is the best way. Be courteous and nice, and just say "Hey, I ordered this laptop and a couple days later I found out I could get it for $400 less (or whatever). Is there anything you can do to help me out?"
You could always go the cancel "threat" route too if they are not giving you any help -- but the people I have talked to there seem very helpful. -
