Wow!!! Just received my new notebook. I took a video of the unboxing. Will have it on youtube later today. Looks fantastic.

^ Yeah. I was about to leave and then there is FedEx at my door. I couldn't believe it. One day early. So stoked. Charging the notebook now. Will have to leave for work so it's going to be a long day.
-
Congrats.
-
Mine should be here today, I think. A day early. I am a little excited.
My cooling pad won't be here for a couple of more days. What is the best way to keep this thing cool in the meantime? What is the best way to "lift" it up, if indeed that is best way? I am going to be putting this thing on a wooden desk.
Thanks. -
Anybody swapped out the hard drive on the dv5t yet? I would like to put in a7200rpm with more gb than the 160 gb 7200rpm that HP offers... Any difficulties?
-
I have mine lifted using some coasters. Congrats on getting yours. Man, this thing takes a long time to come up. I'm going to leave it charging for the day. Mine had a pen mark on the left side of the touch pad. I used a micro-fiber to remove it. Happy about that. The space bar does sound a bit louder than the other keys but not that big a deal.
Ok, here is the unboxing video. It's not great quality but I hope you guys enjoy.

^ hawtness! man, that thing looks soooo huge! i can only imagine how huge the dv7t will be! l0l
enjoy it! -
Hope everyone enjoys their new notebooks!
-
Hmmm, see when people post they saved an extra 100$ with the 400$ coupon it makes me really regret not ordering last week. It also makes me not want to take advantage of the 200$ cause I know there will be something better within the month, right?

You know you're a little computer-nerdy when you love watching an unbox video.. LOL Thanks Cable.. good job on that
-
It's all gravy though, we all have a little nerd in us. -

i try to hide my nerdiness as much as possible. scientific studies have shown that excessive nerdiness is unattractive to the opposite secks - nearly 60% of the time.
studies have also shown that 50% of statistical examples are made up on the spot ;-D -
Edit: As an update...it was in Shanghai for an extra day, but it showed up a day early! I just signed for the box! -
I just realized that the 200 coupon is stackable. ordered one yesterday, should be here by september. was also considering a sager np2096, but i don't like using wire transfers.

My laptop is now at the FedEx facility only 10 miles away from my house. Come to papa!
-
Ahhh. Fedex came a day early and I was here... They knocked instead of ringing the doorbell. Now I have to wait until 5 to pick up.
-
hey chaz, i have been reading on the forums that switching off the powermizer setting on vista has resulted in lower gpu temp for sum people, have u tried disabling powermizer?? also have u tried the new 177.83 vista32 or 64 bit drivers and what is this physx thing from nvidia, if u manage to try these things can u pls post ur results (for ur dv5t or dv5t in general).
-
Argh! My laptop was dead on arrival (screen never came up, but keyboard lights were)

Hey guys I'm planning to purchase a dv5t soon and I was wondering if this is a good configuration. I do more photo and video editing then I do gaming so I was wondering if a 9200M would be good enough for photoshop and Sony Vegas. Here are the specs and price:
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
FREE Upgrade to 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) (Will be upgrading to 4GB from newegg)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS
FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN and Bluetooth(TM)
Price with shipping and tax is around $1,095.40. -
everything else is gud, but if u want a gaming machine, get the 9600m-gt, it will perform much better thn the 9200.

Mine just arrived! I am setting it up right now.
Actually this will be my wife's main computer and I will have to get by with my Sager. -
If that happens to me, I'm going to order a Lenovo... -

Got mine today. Ordered 8/11, here at 8/20 at 9:30 am.
I like it, nice size and super fast. I have a moderate gripe about the reflective screen. If the background is white/blue/gray sort of colors its ok, but otherwise its almost like looking in a mirror. I have a the lower res with infinity display, don't know if that makes it worse or not. If you actively try not to look into the reflection its not too noticeable. It looks fantastic from afar!
Everything else seems great. Overall pretty nice, last computer i had was a desktop from 2000. My first personal purchase of a computer. Got 50 dollars off when i asked to modify screen so cost 930 or so. -
finally got my dv5t!!!!!!
postiing this reply with my dv5t lol it supposed to come by tomorrow by 10:30 AM instead it came today on 10:15 AM.
i was SO excited when i unboxed my laptop and more excited by this cool design, feature. there are some people who worry about its heating problem. but i personally it's fairly controlled at normal work since i never tested any game. it is little bit warm if you put on hard surface, but if you don't, it surprisingly COOL!!.
i can't wait to test my game (such as crysis) later lol -
I've had my dv5t for about week. Aesthetically the infinity screen looks sharp, but the glare and reflection is bad. I wish HP would offer a LED LCD on the dv5t. I like to sit on my deck and have a coctail while surfing the net.
Anyway I am in the process of removing crapware from my dv5t. I don't feel comfortable or confident to do a clean install of vista64 so I'm removing crap using the PC Decrapifier and then whatever else manually. Here is a list of items the Decrapifier comes up with. I have the integrated tv tuner and bluray if it makes any differnce.
adobe flash player active x
aim6
aver media encoder
hp minicard hybrid tv
hp smart web printing
cyberlink youcam
power director
live update
norton internet security
viewpoint media player
my hp games - will keep, i like the chess game
yahoo toolbar
hp doc viewer
cyberlink dvd suite - will keep for bluray playback
jmicron jmb38x flash media controller
hp help and support
java 6 update 5
hp quicklaunch buttons
power 2 go
hp quickpaly 3.7
realtek
compatibility pack for the 2007 office system
adobe reader 8.1.0
msxml 4.0 sp2
hp customer eperience enhancements
label print
hp update
photo now
idt audio
hp total care advisor
hp user guides
hptcs setup
What should I keep, safely remove, or replace with another suggested program? Some stuff I was able to research and removed, but a great deal of this stuff I have no idea what is does. Anything you think would be usefull to a noob I think I would want to keep.
Help me get rid of the crap. Pleeeeeeez! -
I got it! Turning it on now.
Question: You know where the webcam is. To the left of the camera, there are 4 little dots in a square formation. What is that?
Also, mine came with a little scratch above those four dots. I am not sure it is worth dealing with though. I wish it wasn't there, but it may not be bad enough to go through any trouble.
I will keep you posted on my findings. I am definitely going with a clean install once I do my initial make sure everything is working analysis. -
If you are moving around large files e.g. movies, pictures, video editing, large documents, then you will benefit from the faster rotation speed/transfer speed. If your a gamer a larger 5400rpm might be your best option for in game smaller rapid file swapping. Sherlock, thanks for the info on the rpm and hdd... i am using this primarily as a desktop replacement for rendering, cad programs, and use of the adobe suite - little gaming will be done with this, at this point at least... the quote above states that the 7200rpm would thus benefit me and is something i plan on doing regardless so back to my original post - has anyone replaced the hard drive on the dv5t yet and if so is there anything i should be aware of?
-
I got mine today also (am actually on it right now). Immediately though, I have a concern....when I first loaded mine up, the "introductory video" was very slow and choppy. I have the 512 nvidia card, and 2 gigs of ram. Did anyone else have this issue? It seems to me that this video should have had no problems running given my system specs.
Also, the battery had a little note around it saying something like "not charged, refer to user guide for care instructions". Where exactly is this? I couldn't find the "caring for battery" in any paperwork......do I need to leave it plugged in for a certain amount of time before I can turn it off (i.e. affecting battery life by initial charge time?)
Also, just as a sort of silly side point. For those like me who miss the obvious, the caps lock light is right next to the caps lock button. While logging in to different sites, I kept messing up my logins because I didn't think there was a caps lock light (and thus I wasnt sure when I was or wasnt using caps). Rest assured, there is a caps lock light...it just isnt at the top of the keyboard. -
I am going to create Recovery DVDs.
I was wondering, did anyone remove/delete the recovery partition when doing a clean install of Vista, so you could just have one big partition? Or did you just keep it there and installed Vista clean on the existing Windows partition?
Thanks. -
Ok...now I feel really silly! How exactly do I put the media remote in the side of this computer? I see the area it should go in at...but there is a little plastic or metal cover plate over it. I have pushed it in different spots, and tried moving it...but I don't want to start jabbing at it in the case that is isn't supposed to come off like that. Do I just have to push really hard? Pop it off?
-
Went home for lunch and on my way back to work, got behind the fedex guy. He still had my laptop on the truck. Got it and about to create recovery disc(s). I've already got my slipstreamed Vista Home Premium SP1 ready to install.
-
-
Thanks for the tip! I had a bad cell phone experience where I thought a pop-tab was involved
....so ever since then I have been hesitant to start pushing stuff too hard. Anywho, I managed to get the piece out...thanks!
-
I was a little hesitant too.
-
on your list that you may want to keep would be: hp quicklaunch buttons;
realtek; adobe reader 8.0; idt audio; etc.

Yes! My laptop came in a day earlier than mentioned on the website. Right on my birthday, like I wanted. I'm actually typing on it right now.
My dv5t is amazing so far; I have no major complaints. The glossy screen is beautiful, and I don't find it distracting at all. The webcam and the Youcam program that comes with it is loads of fun. Try it out if you haven't already. The laptop's design is simply beautiful with a mixture of professionalism and entertainment.
I do have some small qualms with my whole experience, however. The first problem I ran into is rather more on my part, but I accidentally entered in the wrong product serial number while registering for my hp carepackage warranty. It took one internet session and two different calls to finally find a solution. The online chat experience was quite frustrating as it took me three times to explain my problem to the agent. The last call solved my problem and all I had to do was to call back a couple of days from now and they will help me re-register my carepackage plan with the correct serial this time.
Another problem is, of course, the heat given off by this laptop. The heat isn't intense, but I find it noticeably warm from just doing basic things like surfing the web. I have yet to test it out after running a graphically-demanding game, but I hope it doesn't get too hot.
Overall, I am happy that I picked this laptop as it was a great choice for just a little over eleven-hundred dollars. Highly recommended! Expect a more extensive user review in the next following weeks. -
Speaking of registration, are you talking about registering your dv5t in general? Or is there some special registration you go through when you get an extended warranty? I just have the basic 1-year warranty. I was going to register my computer online at hp.com. Thanks. -
By registration, I mean with the one year extended plan that I purchased with my laptop. This plan is on top of the basic plan that comes by default. -
I can't seem to add the tv tuner option on this laptop??
-
I am trying to register my dv5t. I am trying to do it online. Is the model for this machine "dv5t-1000 CTO Entertainment PC"?
-
-
What are the benefits of registering this machine?
Since I bought it 1 week ago and havent registred yet...
