Other than the delay, that's not a bad deal. You can now play with the system and give it back.

Mine came this morning at about 10:30! Love it Love it.. Things I've noticed..compared to the 6700t, the mouse buttons are solid..but so much harder to push. The hand rest is a little uncomfortable I think 'cause of the ridge. I have the same lineup problem on the right side of the keyboard (seems kind of more of a big deal to me looks wise)

Other than these things... love it!!! It's beautiful.. love the keyboard. I LOVED the blue lights on the 6700t..so was thinking I wouldn't like the white..the white is MUCH better. I can see why they changed it..you can read what they do clearly..the blue was hard to tell. Screen is beautiful.
Now, for those who said they love the higher res..I fully agree. I thought it might be too small..not a chance. Love it. I ran the decrapifier lol and have personalized almost everything, though I still need to install irfanview. I have a Microsoft bluetooth mouse coming.

Is the 9600m GT in the DV5t the DDR2 version or the DDR3 version?

OK I got mine finally but still cant connect to my router!!

Otherwise I love the computer so far. I havent really done much on it just spent a bunch of time trying to connect. Then I gave up on that and decided to create the recovery disks first. I noticed that when my friend got her laptop earlier this year - dv9700t - it asked to make recovery disks on first start. Mine didnt ask so I had to go through the start menu - o well. Now im waiting for that to finish before I can do anything!!

My volume touchpad control doesn't work - just clicks. When I leave the tray vol control slider in view, the touchpad only makes the lever shake up and down..mute won't work either. Help - unacceptable

quickplay doesn't either <--sorry..meant to add that to the post above

    good grief..i'm wrong..just wasn't pressing hard enough..on the 6700 it's touch.. not push

I'm starting to understand now why on the 6700 and the studio they have the fingerprint reader in a different position.. it's keeps making a sound cause it's trying to read my wrist LOL.. that's no big deal..

    **********big update***********

the volume control DOES work.. i wasn't PRESSING hard enough.. ugh.. i'm so used to the 6700's touch sensitive controls

All is well.. except for the awful unlined up speaker thing on the right.. ugh..I'm going to call them about that. I don't like settling. We are the consumers and should expect our laptops to not look as though they've been dropped (that's how mine looks)

Zalman NC2000 wud be the best one, if money is a prb thn NC1000 shd be ok as well, but according to X2P's review and comparison, NC2000 is quite gud and worth the extra money.

Do you have 32-bit or 64-bit Vista? I know on 64-bit, the volume controls work, but there is no on-screen display -- at least that is the way it is for me.

    Hi all,

Any recommendations for an external monitor to hook up to this thing? I am looking for a 20 or 22". Want to spend around $200-250, but can go up a little if needed. I tried an Acer P221W that I got for $200 from Costco, but it wasn't very good -- I could notice wavy, what I believe to be refresh, lines while I look at it. It would have driven me crazy.

I know the dv5t only has VGA or HDMI inputs, so if you know of a good HDMI monitor in my price range, that would probably be preferable.

    Thanks for any recommendations.

I'm looking for a quality wireless N router for my new dv5t. What I'm looking for in particular is a router that can give me straight through wired connection for internet gaming (MMO's and whatnot) while in use with my home theatre (this HDMI connection is incredible with my Samsung 550 plasma and 5.1 setup) at high speeds, but give me reliable (more so than superfast, yet decent speed) wireless N connection for when I surf the net in other rooms. So basically, a fast wired connection and reliable wireless N connection. I'm looking to spend ~$100. Any suggestions? :)

An update to my dilemma with the Lightscribe functionality. I bought some HP branded disks yesterday and Lightscribe worked fine. Then accidently dropped the disk on the floor and a dime size portion on the side of the DVD "separated". It looks like the lightscribe etch-able layer is cheapily glued to the rest. I've never seen this happen to a CD or DVD before.

So, the good news is that the Lightscribe drive works. The bad news is that I will have to use overpriced, low quality HP branded disks to use it :(

Oh, and it took 14 minutes to etch a simple title/design. So overall, I'm quite underwhelmed by this technology/feature.

I have 64-bit.. volume seems to be working fine..but I confess..from using the 6700t for weeks now (I'm taking it back to Costco) I miss seeing it on-screen..but no biggie.

Here's something troubling.. About the only game the kids and I play (without chat) is a game called Sherwood Dungeon. Now the Intel GMA x3100 on the 6700 worked great (well..in a non-gamer kinda way).

So why on earth..would this gma x4500 be making the colored swords like huge blue diamonds swirling around each person..it's almost unplayable.. again, the x3100 in the 6700 worked just fine.. what's my prob here??

Yeah, I don't know why they took the on-screen display off. Maybe someone can enlighten us.

Not sure about your game problem though. Do you have it at a proper resolution?

I was considering that one but in the end, I went with the trusty Linksys 802.11G router. 802.11N is still in draft and I don't see the point of getting an N capable router when your internet connection is only a few Mbps. It does, however, make sense for the home network (ie PC to PC communication).

maybe different on the laptop? I will fiddle.

You do not have to push harder, just do not do it with edge of the fingertips, use the flat/meaty part of the finger instead, by this method, even a slight touch is enough. And keeping your finger on the volume up/down buttons works better then pressing it repeatedly (well, I've tried the latter first  )

You are so right and I think you or someone else had posted that before...I should've remembered. I think what got me is it's a different touch than the 6700.. no worse..just different. Glad I don't have to push and I'm sure it's better for the puter.

Thanks very much. I'm going to call HP tomorrow about the misaligned speaker thingy. I'll let you know what they say.

Does anyone here use Firefox? Is that my graphics problem..is it because it's not 64-bit? And also..there is a 64-bit internet explorer. I'm trying to install shockwave onto it..but can't.. argh

Amp - Did you have any trouble returning your laptop? I'm weighing the pros and cons of trying to get an exchange. I'm okay with the speaker grill "defect," it's actually growing on me :) However, clicky shift key is seriously bothering me. It seems like maybe it's not on there quite right, and I don't want to start off with my brand new laptop already having problems.

I've read a couple other people having problems when they return/exchange their laptops - getting completely WRONG laptops back. Has anyone else exchanged their dv5t and managed to get the correct model with specs back?

I'm wondering if it's worth the risk of sending the laptop back, and ending up with the wrong one...I know I'll be upset with myself in 6 months though, sitting there typing with a clicky shift key halfway falling off...

If you are not 100% satisfied, return it now. If HP sends the wrong one, then return it and ask for a credit for all the hassle.

    Hello everyone,

I was about to bite the bullet and order one of these beauties this morning but when I went to circuit city to try one out and absolutely disliked the touchpad (I'm used to my iBook). I'm used to my touchpad having a bit of a textured surface, I tend to have sweaty fingertips and therefore I couldn't glide across it like I can on my iBook. I'm hoping its really just the display model.

Did I encounter a bad display model? Is the gloss really that bad?

Well..I'm at a loss.. If the 6700 series laptop can handle this particular game..why wouldn't this one be able to handle it. I know you gamers wouldn't dream of sticking with the x4500, but there are some games it should be able to handle (if the x3100 can) Or maybe it's not a graphics card issue? I'm ignorant on this kind of stuff.

Now I could care less about this dumb game I hardly ever play..but why wouldn't it work right.. everything looks great.. and runs great in it.. except for when there are brightly colored weapons swinging around.. or this (supposed to be) swirly rainbow portal you go through..instead of swirly..it's all spikey prismy..and spikes stick way out..same with the people's swords. I'm clueless about this stuff.

Pastry..I like the touchpad..it is glossy

Wow, sorry to hear that! That must have been an error in their system.
    DDR2.
    Try the Zalman NC1000 @ Newegg.com
Pressure should not be needed to get the touch-sensitive buttons to work. Mine work without putting any pressure. Try using the pad of your finger rather than the tip as noted. If your hands aren't dry, the controls will not work very well (in my experience).
They're all like that. However, there is hope for you:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3496
One of those will give the touchpad a textured surface.
Which game? There's no reason the dv5t would not be able to play the game with a comparable graphics card . . . assuming it supports Vista.

I decided I did not like the bloatware on the DV5t and had a vista disk which I used to wipe and install a clean version of Vista on my laptop. Everything worked perfectly after the install except the fingerprint reader (as it does not come up when I reboot Vista.

I went to the HP site and downloaded all the drivers I needed, but for some reason, I cannot get the fingerprint reader to work at all. Is there something I need to do to get it working besides downloading the driver off the HP site?

I looked in the control panel and could not find a setting to enable it?

Thanks for all of your anticipated suggestions.

Guys, I rented a blu-ray and fired up my new notebook which was connected to my HDTV via HDMI. When the movie is about to start, I get an error saying that the content cannot be displayed via this method. Is this some copyright crap? Shouldn't I be able to play a movie that I rented on a TV that I own?

Chaz.. it's Sherwood Dungeon.. runs just fine on the 6700 machine (with vista). You don't think it's a 64-bit prob do you? Everything else in the game looks awesome and it works well.. it's just some of the swords are huge prism-like things above the players and the rainbow-swirl portal is all prismy and spikey and spikes out huge further than the round circle it's supposed to be in..

Hmmm...I think my issue is mismatch resolutions

I'll see if I can do 1366x768 since that is what most 1080i HDTVs are. Fingers are crossed.

Sounds like a driver compatability issue, look for a driver update (northbridge/IGP) at intel.com. If I have time I will look for you, or maybe someone else. This is a brand new release of this IGP and montevina platform so there are bound to be a few kinks until the drivers mature.
If the problem was 64bit related I would think the game would not load or play period.

It was relatively easy, but you know I wanted to buy a dv5t instead of dv5z, and hp sales people were most interested with this, they didn't want to let me get the RMA before I ordered the dv5t. Ofcourse this may be because I told them that my reason is to upgrade it to dv5t. They send a prepaid fedex label in a few hours.

    Hello all.
New to this Forum. Glad i found this as this provide tons of information.
Anyway, here are the highlights that led me to ordering the dv5t. I apologize for the long post...
    - Ordered 6700T
    - Received it after 9days
    - used for 16 days then decided i wanted more :D
    - initiated an exchange for a dv5t
    - shipped/returned the 6700T via RMA#
    - the exchange failed (my bank declined the new order - NSF) as i was assured they will only charge the difference - turns out they charged the full amount of the dv5t
    - HP cancelled the first return/exchange # and entered a new one
    - After getting assurance that I will be charged JUST THE DIFFERENCE, the bank declined again. Called the bank and was told that HP again tried to charge the full amount!
    - called HP. Told them 6700t on its way back to them but still they're messing up the return/exchange. Told the rep to just revive the original Return # and I will just order a new one AND I requested that they still honor the $400 coupon as it already expired at this point. They obliged via $100 instant savings + $300 'future' credit (they will credit me back $300 once the new item ships).
    - HP warehouse in TN received the 6700T. 3-5 days for the credit to appear on my card.
    - as of today my CTO dv5t still in production. Estimated ship date is 8/26.

WHEW! After all the initial fiasco of the exchange process, am still looking forward to getting my dv5t.

    The specs as follows:
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26 GHz)
    - 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680 x 1050)
    - 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    - 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - [For BrightView Infinity] Webcam Only
    - HP Color Matching Keyboard
    - Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN and Bluetooth(TM)
    - No High speed 56K modem port
    - Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
