Have you looked at the NVIDIA control panel? I'd do that myself but I'm in the middle of a disk cloning operation.

Take a look at this program from NVIDIA. I've used it on the 8800 GTS and it allows for clock changes. Not sure if it's compatible with the portable products so DYODD first:

Thanks. I was going to make fun of you for your earlier use of the word "jacktard", but I'll hold back.

when i turn my volume up it sounds like it is only coming out of the center of the laptop...is that normal?

UH-OH................... computer screen went BLACK and won't wake up. HD light is still flashing, apparently still working on the Acronis clone process.
Anyone have a clue on how to wake this pup up?
JohnG
edit: clone failed. I'm assuming because the computer went to sleep. I'll retry with the power settings set to never. -
So my dv5t is in alaska on clearance delay and they estimate it to be here on Sept. 10, will i get it sooner? i hope i do, if any of u have had this experience plz help me feel better..ive been waiting so long....
-
On the two dv5t's that I ordered, both came 2 days after it arrived in Alaska...soon my friend, soon

Hey fellas!
Its my first post on the forum. I just got my DV5T, with the basic options, ie 3 gb ram, 2 ghz processor, lightscribe dvdrom and the wxga flush glossy display. I initially wanted to settle for the macbook pro, but couldnt afford that much money. Until, I found this baby. Its the best buy of the year for me so far. My basic uses are all media oriented and the lappy doesnt disappoint a bit. Games truly are a breeze on it.
i wanted to ask everyone a question, whats the battery time you r getting when havent plugged in. On the move, if i play games or watch some movies, i get a max of one and a half hr or a lil more than that! is it a little less?? I have kept the power settings on HP recommended, still the same. Whereas if one does some work related type work ya something, then its flat 2 hrs. whats the situation with you people??? ink it in pls..
I think coz of the gpu the battery dries out fast. -
Hey does anybody elses dv5t's make a high pitch noise. Its not so loud, but its sometimes very noticible. Put your ear up to the keyboard and see if it does.
-
when i turn my volume up it sounds like it is only coming out of the center of the laptop...is that normal?
-
Hey. I have got one question. This notebook doesn't have an S-Video output and my TV doesn't have HDMI. I was looking for a HDMI - Cinch or SCART cable but I wasn't able to find one. Is there a way to connect my notebook with my TV?
-
I can't type with my ear, so that may be why I don't hear it.
-
I believe I know the noise you are talking about. It's high-pitched, not really loud (can't hear it if music is playing), but is not always there. I sometimes hear that with my dv5t as well. It's nothing to worry about. My previous HP laptop, which I had for 5 years (and still works), occasionally made the same noise the entire time I had it.
-
Does anyone know if a HP Dock is required to get spdif (digital audio) out of the dv5t? Or (like many other notebooks) does 1 of the 2 Headphone jacks provide a digital output that can be used for spdif via a digital coax cable + an rca -> stereo mini adaptor at one end?

when i turn my volume up it sounds like it is only coming out of the center of the laptop...is that normal? i went into sound options and checked to see if left and right were working and they did but when i move it into the middle it only sounds like middle speaker is on

Use our driver update guide and get newer drivers:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=258626
The 177 series Nvidia drivers on LaptopVideo2Go.com are working great on both my notebook and desktop.
You can use 1x 1GB and 1x 2GB and it will be just fine.
Check here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228
It basically allows you to start off with a clean slate.
The GPU and CPU should clock down automatically - mine do, even if I am plugged in with High Performance mode on.
Mine does, but I can only hear it if I listen for it. Some people's hearing is more sensitive than other's, so maybe you can hear it better than I do. -
Can someone attach the quick launch driver the older version. THe new version doesn't seem to be working.
-
hey why is my dv5t still in clearance delay its been 2 days....im sooo pissed off....my laptop is not a dam bomb.....
-
I guess mine isn't coming early, estimated shipped on the 8th and i still didn't receive my tracking number. This wait is unbelievable.
-
Mine's estimated shipping date is 9/5 and it's still in production =(
-
i even payed for the 2 day shipping, this totally suks i hate waiting...
-
Call HP, my order was delayed too and I received a 50$ discount off of my order
-
When I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago it hit a clearance delay at around 9 PM whatever the day was. My assumption was, and still is, is that customs closes for the weekend at that time. Mine promptly then passed customs on the following Monday and I received it Tuesday (the estimated arrival date was Wednesday.)
-
Paka if you paid for faster shipping and didn't get it i would definitely call back to get a refund for the faster shipping.
-
So, should i call hp and ask about my order since the estimated ship date is tomorrow?
-
Snake, no. Wait until past tomorrow, you have no reason to call right now. They stated your estimated ship date tomorrow they will say wait until tomorrow. Just because some people got theirs early doesn't mean its guaranteed for everyone, the early shipping is just extra for a customer, not something they should expect. On my current dv5t, i received it on the estimated ship date (the ship date was 2 days early) while the other one i ordered estimated ship date was Sep. 5, which would give me a reason to call since its past 2 days.
-
mine got here 1 day after it got to alaska which is 1 day before estimated shipped time...and i'm in texas!
anyways, when i turn my volume up it sounds like it is only coming out of the center of the laptop...is that normal? i went into sound options and checked to see if left and right were working and they did but when i move it into the middle it only sounds like middle speaker is on -
Oh, right, thanks.
-
god...i really hate waiting....feels like years...MOTHERF***

Hey all...life has been a bit hectic, so I haven't been able to keep up with the forums for a while now. Anywho, I have had my dv5t for about 3 weeks now, and so far it is working out for me. I have to admit though, even with 4 gigs of ram installed, I found it helped me greatly to turn off Aero.......the "aesthetics" of it were killing my lappy (and I have a 9600 gt).
As of right now though, I am curious if anyone is having weird sound issues with their lappy? This issue just started the other day, but I haven't changed anything recently, so I don't know what I might have done to cause it. What happens is that the volume on the computer goes in and out.
For example...one minute I will be using yahoo, and all of my alerts are working fine. However, the next second when I receive an alert...I get either no audio...or very muted auto (I can barely hear it...it sounds like it has been turned down to 5 or 10 on the volume bar).
This problem seems to be happening with all programs, and I have noticed in the last few days that even when the sound is at normal volume, I often times only hear the last half of things (for example when someone signs in on trillian, I hear only the 2nd half of the notification I should be hearing). Or, I might hear a slight pop (as if the software isn't working right) before a program noise happens.
I downloaded the latest audio drivers from HP's site...but that hasn't made any difference. Is anyone else having this problem? -
I might have the same problem with the sound, but i'm not entirely sure. At start up, my msn messenger usually pops up and notifies that i have mail. As I have been using msn messenger for a long time on my desktop, and earlier with the laptop, i know how the sound is for the mail, but i seem to only hear the last half, something just like pop. :\

Hi everyone ... i've been looking for a new laptop for a while, and think I might go with the dv5t. However before I decide, just have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer, especially if you already have one...
1. I think i'll get the integrated X4500 graphics card, mainly because of the cost (+$200 to GeForce 9600M) and also heat issues. Plus I don't intend to play games. However, I would like to watch a 1080p HD video (eg DivX format) on the laptop. Has anyone done this and noticed any lag or other problems?
2. I noticed on the HP customising website, it says you get 1394 firewire and 10/100/1000 ethernet with the 2 Nvidia graphics card options, however it says nothing about that for the Intel X4500 option. Can someone who has purchased the dv5t with the integrated X4500 graphics card please let me know whether you also get the full gigabit ethernet too? (I assume you don't get firewire unless you get the discrete graphics?).
3. It seems the commonly known coupon code NB3089 is no longer valid. Anyone got a later one they're happy to share?
thanks in advance for anyone who can help in 1 or more of the above questions!! -
Chango...it well could be the same issue...sounds like something mine would do.
I am just really surprised how odd this issue is. Right now for example...I saw someone sign off of trillian, but I got NO sound indicator whatsoever. Then, I sent a test message to myself through trillian, and I heard the correct noise, but it was very low. Then, after sending a second message to myself, the sound was the right volume. It is almost like something in the computer is making it where sound only applies to the program I am actively using. Everything else running in the background doesnt seem to get noise until I select that program and make it the main one I am using. -
Do a google search for a coupon
thats how i found my $400 off coupon
Also, ive been monitoring my temps during gaming and my laptop seems to fluctuate between 80-85 C. This is also while i have the back lifted up as well. Is this alright? seems alittle hot. -
On a further sound related note....after rolling back my audio drivers, my computer worked great for 5 minutes. All of the sound worked the way it should have. Then, however, I lost ALL sound on the computer, and had to reinstall the latest drivers to get the sound to work again. Argh!
-
That $400 coupon is long gone.
Likely replaced sometime in Sep.

Hey, I have had my dv5t for about 2 weeks now and I enjoy it, although my computer does seem to bottleneck on my processor.
specs:
p8600 2.4ghz
512 mb nvidia 9600m gt
4 gb ram
250gb harddrive
blueray player
1650x1050 widescreen brightview infinity
high capacity 6 cell battery
5100agn intel wireless
fingerprint reader
vista 64bit home
I was wondering if there were any drivers from laptopvideo that would also work with my blueray player, because my blueray didnt work when i installed the new drivers.
the only cons:
seems to bottleneck on the processor when running heavy applications
short battery life
fingerprints
quickplay mute button gets stuck
Also, I bought the antec black notebook cooler for the dv5 and it works like a champ. although I don't have any software to actually test the temperatures inside, I can feel huge differences on the outside of the case just by having the cooler running -
hm i think u need to download new drivers for the quickplay and mute button
after windows automatically updated my drivers, they started working fine -
Many users have posted that only HP's Quick Play will play blue-ray disks out of the box
-
I got my dv5-1010us a little less then a month ago. It's a great computer. I just wish it wasn't so much of a smudge trap.
-
There is no middle speaker, only a right and left. If each works separately when you slide the balance from right to left, then you are in good shape. With stereo speakers equally balanced, the sound usually feels as if it is coming from the center. Go find an old song by The Cars from the eighties called Moving in Stereo. Its a good test for stereo speakers
Take care.

Anyone test how long the battery holds up in Sleep mode, with the lid closed? I'm tired of booting up and shutting down. Estimates would be equally appreciated.
You think it may be a bad idea to keep this going in sleep mode while in a backpack? Would it get too hot? I notice my temps aare quite low while sleeping. -
don't you risk harddrive corruption if you keep your lappy on while moving in a backpack?
-
-
where is the sub on the laptop then?
-
I don't think there is one on the dv5t. The dv7t has a built in sub
-
I second this!
Just wondering, are the people experiencing problems recently all using the 64-bit version of Vista? Because I heard there were issues with this build for a lot of things.
Mine should be arriving on Wednesday. Can't wait.
-
Wassup to all! I am currently in the middle of using nlite to slipstream SATA drivers to my xp cd. I downloaded the drivers from the HP official website. They gave me an executable file in which i used winrar to extract the files from. The .inf file that i need is nowhere to be found in the extracted files. Can someone please help ya boy?
-
