Hopefully mine is on its way. The website still says "order in production. Estimated ship date Sept. 4" !

Why can't they update their website? This is killing me!

They won't be able to take advantage of it for now, but there's always room to upgrade the OS later :)

Got my DV5 today and so far it's a nice machine. I can't quite get it to be silent when it's charging the battery though. In the BIOS I've unchecked the "Fan always on" which has resulted in the pc being silent when it's in battery mode. But as soon as I plug in the charger the fans starts. How do I avoid the fans starting when the battery is charging? It is the P8400 CPU I have.

I noticed the same thing. I bet that the fan has to stay on to compensate for the heat that is generated from charging the battery

Just checked my order status and they finally shipped it, though it missed the Fedex cutoff. What are the odds that it will get here this week (I'm in california)?

I had selected the free shipping option (which I thought was fine since it was supposed to ship on the 4th), and I called last friday to see if I could change the shipping to a faster option. The operator put me on hold a couple times and said they'd add a note to expidite it, but she couldn't really tell me if that would help.

I want to buy the dv5t but, I am still a little concerned about how powerful the 9600mgt. I will be getting the 2.4ghz processor and 4gigz of ram. I will be using this laptop for school and a lot of gaming too. My primary game is cod4, but I am one of those players that doesn't enjoy gaming with anything lower than 76 fps. Will this graphics card help me achieve that at medium settings?

    This should help:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=286033

They recommend a 7800. Become it is an 800 card, I'm not sure if the 9600 is up for the challenge.

    Let's compare:

    7800 GT

    Core Clock Speed: 560 MHz
Memory Clock Speed: 700 MHz (1400 MHz effective)
    Memory Interface: 128-bit
Memory Bandwidth: 22.4 GB/s memory bandwidth
    Fill Rate:4.48 billion pixel/s and 6.72 billion texel/s
    Vertex/s: 700 million
    SLI Support (for PCI-E Model)
Shader Power: 12 pixels per cycle
    Memory Type: GDDR3 or DDR2

    9600M GT
    32 Stream Processors.
    500 MHz core clock.
    1250 MHz shader clock.
    800 MHz memory clock.
    Up to 1024 MB memory.
    128-bit memory interface.
    25.6 GB/s memory bandwidth.
? billion texels/s texture fill rate

The 7800 and 9600 are completely different architectures so you cannot simply compare clockspeeds. The 9600 is the superior card.

Hey couple of quick questions I was hoping someone could help me with:

    1. Does the dv5t support the A2DP bluetooth profile (allowing stereo BT headphones to be used)

    2. with the integrated X4500 graphics, do you still get gigabit (instead of fast) ethernet? Specs on HP's website don't say

    thanks!

Anyone having any problems with their 5100? I just had it stop working with me and then after two restarts it still didn't work. After hitting repair it said there was still an issue but I managed to connect now. My three weeks is almost up and I'm gonna be mad if my wireless just ups and dies.

well i found out the prb, its allowing me to burn the cds now, it was the cyberlink dvd suite which I uninstalled, it mite have deleted sum files in the system, normal cd writing was working, but the recovery manager was not recognising the writer, i re-installed the cyberlink dvd suite from swsetup and it is working fine now.

Hey guys, just got my dv5t. It's nice and powerful but I'm concerned about the temperatures. I changed the power settings to max performance and put on World of Warcraft and the palmrest areas get VERY uncomfortably hot. I lifted up the back of the notebook a full inch for better airflow but this hasn't helped much in this regard. Any ideas?

^^ I play cod4, and at 1024x786 resolution and i get around 45 fps average, with all high settings. With medium settings you will get alot better frames.

I removed all of the HP cr@p, MS office, and Norton. The computer is running at 1 GB of RAM use (out of 4).

This lappy seems very snappy. No official test yet but overall it seems to be a solid performer.

When the battery reaches 100% charge the fan (dv5t only has one fan) will stop if your bios is still set to disable the fan always on option. This assumes that all other things in the laptop are running cool. As soon as the temps reach a certain point in the laptop, the fan will kick on. Once they cool back down the fans will turn back off. Try things when the battery is fully charged and see how it runs. Take care.

Thats very strange your battery is lasting for less than an hour. I have the high capacity 6 cell and i get about 2 hours 45 min. Somethings not right with yours. I would call it in to hp. As for things to remove, just about everything that looks like you dont need it, especially norton. Get avast or avira.

Can anyone burn and send me a recovery disk? Just got the laptop yesterday and decided to do the clean install. I made the cardinal mistake of not burning a recovery disk before attempting the clean install!! Oops!!

I have the 64bit Vista Home Premium.

I will send $10 via paypal. Unless you guys recommend going through HP? I think they charge a bit more though and not sure if it matters where it comes from?

    Thanks

Ordered mine Aug 31 with the awesome 30% off coupon code. It now says shipped from Shanghai on Sept 8. I did not know that HP laptops were being configured in China. So anyway, eagerly awaiting my shipment so I can start work on it. And by that, I mean, a clean install.

if you go into power settings, you will see various different power plans. on each one, if you go to properties, you can select different brightnesses, IE, if it's plugged in, set brightness to high - if it's on battery, set it low, etc.

these settings take affect automatically - based on whether you're plugged in or not.

i use this OR fn+f keys.

also my laptop alone comes out to like 1027 with the upgraded res minus the fingerprint reader(i think taking out the old res price and fingerpint reader and adding the $100 to upgrade)
with the 1 year accidental its 1134
