    Hey guys. I just ordered a dv5t!

Quick question, and sorry if it's been answered (my search isn't working):

I stuck with the default 2GB and will want to upgrade to 4 total using Newegg. Should I be looking to order 2x 1gb DDR2 800 sticks? Thanks in advance.

My first notebook. Wish me luck. :p

I think the 2gb that you ordered comes with 2x1 gb sticks. so you would have to order 2x2 gb sticks. ):

Hi people, i got my dv5t yesterday and did a bit of testing, my config is in my sign. I used this software rthdribl_1_2 to run a stress test for my GPU, i reached temp upto 100 C, but with the Zalman NC2000, the temp dropped to around 85 C with the GPU fully stressed up. Without the cooler, my gpu idles at 55 C but with the cooler i get 44 C, so 11 C lower, which is quite gud :D, also for sum reason my middle click started working now whoop whoop, i love this feature in firefox. Rest all seems to work perfect and I am getting a WEI score of 5 (base score) with stock drivers, i think they are 175 sumthing.

Does anyone have a list of the non-essential programs to delete? In addition, to remove the Norton program, do you need to do something other than use the regular remove tool. I have heard that Norton is very difficult to completely uninstall and you may need a separate program to actually do the uninstall process. Thanks.

Has anyone had a problem connecting with the 5100 wifi card? Mine does not automatically connect. I can connect manually but it is slow. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the new $200 coupon. The "Laptop Deals" tab on this seems to stay pretty current: http://www.notebookreview.com/deals/

Vista 64 problems: not supported by Cisco VPN client, and I was having trouble with it recognizing my old Palm device.

After verifying on the phone that there would be no problem with an exchange (exchanging for a 32 bt OS), I sent in my 15-day old laptop. It arrived yesterday, but my order status still shows return incomplete. Calling today, I am told that the process failed because they couldn't apply the $400 in price adjustments that I was promised to the new laptop. They didn't call me to tell me there was a problem, I had to check my order status and see they weren't processing my exchange. And that they are trying to charge me full price for the new one, but only refunding the adjusted price for the old one. I spent 90 minutes on the phone today and was told that they would take care of it. not much faith left.

    Sweet thanks!

< On hold with HP right now to see if they can apply this to my order which has not shipped yet.

Think I'll get any trouble trying to apply it to my order?

edit- they are telling me that I cannot apply this to my order, which has not shipped yet... and I cannot cancel my order. HAHA

edit 2- got the $200 credit. They said they could not add the coupon, but would credit me 100... then I told them no, put on hold, then they told me 150... I told them no again, then got the full $200

    Hey everyone -

A quick question re: your dv5t... trying to find out if my brand new one (arrived yesterday!) is unusual.

The front of the computer has a thin silver trim piece, running from side to side, just below the silver piece that wraps around the entire handrest. One end of the this trim piece has the three little LEDs for power, charging, etc. The other side runs above the headphone jacks and around to the optical drive door.

My trim piece on the left side, near the little LED squares, is loose. Not falling-off-loose, but loose enough to "click" when you tap it or knock it. I'm not trying to be obsessive about these things, but I'm a little annoyed that the computer arrived with a loose part like this.

Wondering if they all do this, and if I can take it apart and try to tighten it myself, or if this is a "live with it or return it" type of thing.

Just figured I'd ask. Anyone have thoughts?

    EDIT - second question -
Also, it seems like a lot of people are getting money back on their purchase somehow. I bought mine with the 30% off coupon, which was not stackable with anything else. I bought the day before the 2GB offer switched to 3GB, as well. How would I go about trying to get "more" out of HP - do I just call and say, I noticed that you now offer this 200$ off coupon, and I want some of that too? And I want a credit for missing out on the 3GB thing? I'm a little clueless on how you guys actually did this. Feel free to send me a private message if that's easier.

    Thanks.

I have the exact same issue, except mine clicks on the right side near the input jacks, which sucks since that is just where I rest my hand. I guess we'll have to learn to live with it.

Oh and this laptop is great, just 2 days since I got it and so far so good.

My dv5t has this same issue also. In all honesty...almost the entire front trim of mine will click if pressed (especially the right side).

Between the clicking front trim, the non-flush left keyboard speaker grill issue, and the horrible smudge pick-up nature of this computer, I am convinced that someone at HP design must have only put in a half day of work on the day that the dv5t casing plans were due .

Regardless of how well the machine actually works as a computer, there certainly seem to be a lot of little aesthetic issues that could have been addressed before the machines ever went into production. However, because these issues weren't ironed out completely, worry warts like me are constantly nervous about what problems might arise in the future because of these imperfections, and whether we should keep sending the machines back until we get a perfect one (if there even is such a thing).

Yet...if the worst problems I ever have out of this thing are some minor aesthetic issues that bring out my O.C.D. side, then I have to be happy overall with the situation (though I do relate to the issue of "I just paid x amount of dollars for this...and it CLICKS?!!!!" :p)

IMO, the dv5T is a 'high value' machine and appears to do a lot of things right and few things sort of so-so.

This is a good example of "you get what you pay for", or perhaps don't pay for depending on coupon availablility. :p. Mine cost just a tad over $1K and delivers a LOT of performance. It remains to be seen how reliable the machine will be.

broadcom card much better than intel 5100

i thought i had a bad intel wifi link 5100 agn card, and hp agreed to send me a replacement, which ended up being the broadcom agn card. i installed it into the laptop under the harddrive...and it still didnt work. being desperate i decided to try the drivers from hp.com one more time. i looked all the way down on the list and saw QUICKTOUCH drivers. this is what finally got my wifi working, i didn't need the replacement card sent out afterall!!! the entire time i was getting quicktouch mixed up with quick launch drivers.

so now ive been experimenting with both wireless cards, and it turns out the broadcom AGN card has MUCH better speed and reception in this laptop. i'm keeping this one and sending back the 5100AGN.

    Hello friends

Since we got the montevina(centrino-2) platform in our dv5t, we should be able to plug in DDR3-800 since the centrino-2 supports this.

Also want to ask if someone else got huge lagging issue with Razer Pro|click v1.6 notebook mouse with the integrated bluetooth, because I got this issue :(

Sorry if this things are mentioned in some quote

    Thanks!

I have to say that I was very impressed with HP on this one. I ordered it on Friday, Sept 5th and the email said that it takes 7-10 business days. Last night (9/9) I checked my email and it said that they had shipped it out... I had to do a double take when I saw that it also said that it had arrived already. I went downstairs and there it was... only 2-3 business days later! Probably helps that they are shipping from Burlington and I live in Toronto (40 min drive or so)

Not only that, but the specs online said that I would get a 2.0 GHz P7350 and I got a 2.26 GHz P8400!! The computer looks great and it is very fast. So far I am loving it!

I guess it won't.. which is pretty strange thought! We got the nw platform, but with ddr2.. The same thing is with the 9600gt ddr2 but not ddr3..
And still this is the one of the best value/price notebook :p So loaded in a nice cage, love it! :D

What about the Razer Pro|Click v1.6 notebook mouse lagging issue?
It seems to be from the integrated bluetooth, also I saw some similar claims for xps 1530 with the same mouse..

    Any solutions or participants?

joshblack99 you are impressed just like us. Nice job HP(sry for the off)

    Tnx.

Howdy all. I got my dv5t today, and was just wondering what drivers I should update. I havent had any problems so far, but I would like to avoid any common issues if possible. Just looking at the hp site, I noticed there was an update to the video card, intel wireless card and the HP quicklaunch button drivers. Should I install them, or just wait until I have issues?

    1. Download the Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver, SoftPaq SP32478.exe,

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32001-32500/sp32478.exe

    2. Extract all the files from the SoftPaq. A USB floppy is necessary for this step.

Run sp32478; this will create a floppy disk. The files will be located on this

    floppy.

These files should be located on the floppy disk.

    a. iaahci.cat

    b. iaahci.inf

    c. iastor.cat

    d. iastor.inf

    e. iastor.sys

    f. license.txt

    g. readme.txt

    h. txtsetup.oem

    3. Download the below zip file from the below URL and unzip the file. Copy the

    unzipped files to another floppy:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com

    /13808/eng/f6flpy32.zip&agr=&ProductID=2800&DwnldId=13808&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng

If the above link doesn't work check with the following link:

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00758841

As soon as you open the web site a small window will pop up with OPEN, SAVE and

CANCEL options. Please select the SAVE option and save the file on the desktop.

Unzip the files and save the files on the second USB floppy drive. Please insert the

XP Operating System disc and allow the Notebook to boot with the Operating System

    disc.

After you that when it prompts to press F6, please press F6. After you press F6 when

it prompts to insert the first floppy inset the floppy, and follow the onscreen

instructions. Then, when it prompts to insert intel storage drive insert second

I finally received my brand new DV5T today! :)

Quick question, my power connector feels awfully loose. Like, the AC adapter, when plugged into the laptop, can be wiggled around quite a bit. My old laptop wasn't like that.

Anyone else notice that, or is it just mine? =/

I got mine today (well I dont have it but it was delivered)
It shipped the 8th, estimated arrival was tomorrow at 9:30. And I am on the east coast, so that means everyone can expect an early arrival.

Also if people wud like to enable the middle click option (right click + left click) on their dv5t here is how to do it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults\ -- create the key as a DWORD 'HasBothButtonFeature' and set the value to 1.
Log off and login again, and bob's ur uncle :p

I had this problem for the first 10-20 minutes use. After it, I forgot what I had done in between these 20 minutes ( like muting, turning volume, pressing the quickplay buttons). It finally went away.

However, I have another problem that I fail to use the quickplay volume tune buttons for tuning volume.
