I have lost track of what is happening in the DV5T world. Anyone know if there are any problems in the last couple weeks with over heating?

It'll be fine for what you want to do with it.

The only thing I'd recommend is sticking with the 'free' 2gb and buying 4gb of ram from newegg instead. You'll be paying an extra ~$15 for 4gb instead of 3, and ram, as everyone knows, is one of the cheapest 'good' upgrades right now.

Always good to future proof yourself!

    edit for newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

Thanks.. Only problem is, I live in Canada and that is the only model dv5t I could find under 1k. We can't custom build from HP here. This one goes for $799.

    I assume can was a typo...eek. That's pretty lousy.

    I wouldn't fret. 3gb is still great.

Just bought a dv5t for my mom. Here are the specs. Let me know if you think it's a good deal!

Expected build day is Sept. 22. All in all I'm pretty pleased with it. The only thing I'm worried about is if it will run to hot for her. But according to most users it seems that it stems from gaming right? The average user who doesn't use it for gaming should be just fine right?

The $500 coupon isn't stackable like the $200 one was. I used the $200 one and it works out to close enough to the same price for me to not be worth following up on.

Mine came with a few grazed marks just around the front of the base but nothing too noticable.

It's like that in the UK, I got the pre-built specs in my signature for £750/$1344.

If I could have chosen I would have got the 2.53 processor and 64 build of vista but that would have made the price shoot up over £1000 and I think mine's fast enough anyway.

How is the overheating problem going on?

Is it stll there? I ordered:
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.80GHz)
    - 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

Is it true that the highest Processor and 9600M GPU will give more heat issue than lower Processor with the same GPU card? Or is it better to get the highest Processor with 9200 GPU. I don't game , I use several application open at the same time ex: firefox, world, some burning DVD software, Roxio, photoshop, some chats, avi video. All this I run at the same time. Which system would be propriate for me??

Thanks for your time and answers.........

That's an interesting question actually. I only have the 2.0 processor but I have the 9600M GT card and it generally runs cool. After 3 hours of Internet browsing and Photoshop it's still only a little warm. I haven't tried any high end gaming yet though to know how hot this configuration gets.

I had the 30% coupon with my order. Just called to get the $500 coupon discount. I'll be getting another $51.60 back. With the $50 credit that I'm also getting from the free 3GB ram upgrade from a few weeks ago, I'll end up paying under $1K for my rig. T9400, 9600M GT, 2GB ram, 250GB HD, 5100 A/G/N w/BT and the WSXGA+ display. Great deal.

CPU temps and GPU temps are separate. I had a T9400 which used 35w TDP (which all T series do), but now I am using a P8600 which only uses 25W TDP. Essentially this means the P8600 uses less power and conducts less heat, while my T9400, or your T9600, uses more power and produces elss heat in turn for a better processor (not necessarily better performance if you don't use it.). I suggest you try to undervolt your processor and buying a cooler would be handy too. As for the GPU, the temperature is separate. On both laptops, my GPU was idle at ~45C.

I think you would get a biased answer here. But looking at the specs vs price, I think you could get better specs on the dv5t for a cheaper price (when you use the current 500$ coupon). Especially the video card. The inspiron uses an integrated and is the only available choice, while the hp dv5t you can get a nice 9600M GT dedicated video card.

I actually paid $715 for the laptop, but it was defective and they gave me a $100 credit plus a free replacement. I''m debating on caling them to cancel the replacement and just getting a refund. They have great service though. They said they would come pick up the defective one once I receive the new laptop.

my Dell has a T5750 (2.00GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache) processor instead of the T7350, but I doubt that would make the HP a lot faster. it also has an X3100 instead of the X4500.

The processor on HP is P7350, so less power usage and less heat. Both video cards are integrated, they don't really matter in comparison between those 2. What about RAM/HDD space/ etc.

Really though, it's up to you which one you like more and which one gives more for your money.

the ram is 3gb on both and the hd is 250 on both. The dell has bluethooth too, but I only got the cheapest wireless card. I get more for my $ on the dell... It just looks old (design wise) and I think the workmanship must be better on the HP.

Well, it's up to you. I don't care too much about looks, so if they were same specs, I would go for the cheaper. Both are good major brands.

What do you mean exactly...? 21 days to return it for a refund? Did you get a new notebook when you swapped to a wsxga+ screen? Too little info.
