PHP:Just answered my own question. To me it has some fancy design on the cover -- same concept as the SE model before this SE model, except this has a different design.

Don't pay for the 2 day. It take the same amount of time to build, regardless of if you pay for 2 day shipping. Once it ships, it'll get to you in about 2 days.
-
what temps are you gettng when gaming? i wanna compare mine and see if its nearing the danger temp. mine reaches 82c..is that bad?
-
Oh ok thanks ^_^. and also someone said wait for the coupons but where do u get them from?
And also that new "sale" Hp has going on is bogus lol, I redid everything in my cart after they had the "sale" and it actually ended up costing a bit higher, and somehow the actual laptop is costing me about 100 dollars more. So yeah, it is bogus lol -
Coupons can be located via a google search or even easier by the laptop deals tab at the top of this page.
http://www.notebookreview.com/deals/
The next coupon should be a 30% off.
regards
JohnG -
Thanks lol
-
When should the next coupon be coming out btw?
-
Usually every Monday... at least from what I've observed over the past 2 months
-
Reminds me of Best Buy, which has their new specials for the week starting every Sunday. -
It can reach more then 100C before dire consequences. 82C is a bit high though, try doing some things to cool it down. Possibly a cooler, or maybe just raise the back. Check my sig to see how I cooled down CPU/GPU via undervolting and cooler. There are pics and temps comparison!
BTW, selling the Zalman NC2000 black cooler. PM me if interested. -
Mine will be sent by Oct.10th, hope it would be faster than that.....just can't wait to see it!
-
I should have mentioned that the price of these pups is going to drop several hundred bucks over the next couple of months. Demand destruction at work.
. Sort of like what's happening with oil right now.
I'm looking for another one sometime around mid Nov................. assuming I don't get one of the too be released Apple laptops.
JohnG -
I plan to buy dv5t P8600, but some friends of mine said that It was boiling when you use it a long time, maybe this topic was talked about it ago but it's too hard to find the answer. So anybody help me to answer, thanks
-
Yeah, the HP dv5t is known for heat problems, but it gives the best price for performance. I took steps to cool down my dv5t, check my sig. After my procedures, pretty much no heat concern at all. The thing you want to avoid mostly is having it on top of anything that will trap heat, like cloth. The P series processors emit less heat, and the 9600M GT does get a bit hot in there.
-
So, you 'gave up' on laptops?
JohnG -
Heat issues are highly exaggerated, and not of concern with undervolting/cooler if you plan on playing graphics intensive games for long hours.
-
Oh no johnnymg2, trust me, I WANT a laptop, but I returned 2 dv5t's due to defects, not to say they didn't please me, but I didn't want problems. Then, I was hoping to get a HDX16t, but I missed the great deal when it was barely released. I just decided to wait after that. I asked fellow NBR members, and since I don't need the laptop right now, I made the decision that it would be better for me to hold off for a year until I actually need it. For now, I have a desktop that is and has been running fine for 4 years, and will last me another. I decided that I didn't want my 12 cell battery only lasting me 1 hour by the time I hit college... and also technology is forever improving, so I would be getting a better deal a year from now, but of course, I hate not having a laptop now.

I"ll probably upgrade the ram at a later date, since I see newegg has a pretty good deal. And i wanted to wait on going up to 64bit vista, since everything isn't 64bit compatible (yet). Because of all the heat issues i've been reading about, I went with the 12 cell battery, since it naturally lifts the rear of the laptop up, and should help dissipate the heat a little more. Just a quick question for now though. Does anyone know of any games, that the 9600 gs won't play? (play well that is).
Tenspeed -
Hello,
What were the defects of those laptops, if you don't mind me asking? -
I can only say what I have heard. Some people say if you use it a lot for extended periods for gaming it gets pretty hot. Also heard if you don't do a lot of gaming it may not be too bad for heat. I know a lot of people on here do gaming though.
-
Lexus1208,
I know how you feel. I couldn't wait to see it either. I went to youtube, and searched for some videos of the dv5t, found some,, weren't bad. then i went to my local circuit city, and saw it in person..
WoohOO,, now i really can't wait.
Tenspeed -
lol yeah I did the same a week or 2 ago but I went to Best Buy and i played on the internet with it n stuff. pretty sweet ^_^
-
Overall laptop wasn't well built or something. Caused a click where it wasn't supposed to be and my optical drive kept opening by itself.
-
Tenspeed
I'd change that order to 64 bit! IMO, you shouldn't be using shiet SW that needs a 32 bit OS.
JohnG
JohnG -
I'm not sure yet... i'm still going with the 32bit for now.. i can always upgrade that later, heck,,, maybe with when windows 7 comes out, the 64 bit will be backwards compatible to 32bit.. <shrug>. Oh, btw.. i just placed the order for good, and had them swap the bluray drive for the lesser lightscribe one, and added the tv tuner. i think i'll have more use for that, since i travel alot. i can record tv that way. and i can always add a bluray drive myself later when they come down in price in the future..
Tenspeed.. -
Mind if I ask something here?
On the site, the aforemention notebooks item that will get 50% are TX2500z, and DV5T (I'm only interested in these..)
Does it mean that I will get 50% cut after customize everything or it's just fake information? Thanks for replying. -
yeah, i don't think it's actually 50% off after you customize. heck, if that were the case, the 1300.00 laptop i just ordered would only cost me 650.00 and if i were actually applying today's "sale" it would be.. well, 1368.00 minus 150.00 which comes to 1218.00 .. but i ordered mine last week when they had a better coupon code going on, NB4113 so, i'll end up getting it for 901.97.. which i think is pretty good.
Tenspeed -
I have a question. IF ever the prices of my laptop would be lower if there will be a 30% off coupon in the near future, and having the price protection by hp for 3 weeks (is this accurate?), and they say that my item will be shipped oct 9th, will the hp price protection start when the item is delivered to me or the date i ordered it?
also, if i decide to upgrade my optical drive to a blu-ray one, can i do this? i heard some laptops can upgrade optical drives and i was wondering if the dv5t can do this.
thanks! -
WWOOOhHHHOoooO!!!!!
It's been approved and they're getting it ready as I type
: D
Tenspeed -
I have upgraded an optical drive before in a laptop.. i'm sure it would be similar on the Dv5t. couple of screws on the back, or inside a back cover, and the drive pulls out, push the new one in..... re-screw the screws, and there ya go!!!
-
Oh thanks Tenspeed, just found out that the coupon expire in 13th October :O
Gotta hurry, gotta hurry
Anyway there's a link on Deal section in NBR, said only DV5TSE model not DV5T.. I wonder if the coupon applicable to DV5T (the DV5TSE utilize INTEL 4500M Graphic card.. I don't want this..) -
There is no 50% coupon, it's just a marketing ploy to make you think you save . They are not lying though, they say up to 50% but on other things. There is also no coupon this week, the NB4113 400$ off coupon was last week and has expired due to it's 1700 use limit.
Price protection starts the day your order.
woops i meant to say the day you receive your order. -
that seems kinda lame, that they start that price protection from the day of the order,, half the time is spent building and shipping your order. -
It was exhausting getting through this thread. EXHAUSTING!!!!
After reading Chaz's outstanding review I was sold on the dv5 and then I found the "official owners lounge" (which really is anything but). I mistakenly thought I would educate myself further on the dv5 with this thread. I was wrong. I just grew old and am now crippled in my chair with carpel tunnel from my own laptop.
The same questions were asked over and over, and Chaz (God Bless you man), answered them again, and again, and yes -- again; as did others.
Then the pages and pages of shipping excitement!! Fed-ex was never so interesting to me.
How many times can the heat issue be answered. OK.... it gets hot when you game. Chaz told us that in his review. f you don't game get the 4500 and you'll love it!!! Hmmmm?? Like Chaz said in his review???
How about what processor to get? How many times can the difference between the 8400, 8600 or whatever be discussed?
Or the display screen? Get out of the house and go see for yourself!!
Or what video card trumps which card AND WHY? Or why not ask what notebook cooler is best to get, or what RAM is good when it's been talked about over and over. If I see the Newegg link to the 4gigs of RAM again -- it won't be too soon.
Or how about the people who felt screwed due to not using the $400 or 30% off coupon. And then want to know how to get more money back. Or worse, send back a perfectly good product for all of $85!! Are you kidding me? Boo-who. You want a GREAT deal? Wait 2 years and buy the dv5 when one is left on Best Buys outlet store. You won't be sorry!!
Oh man, I could go on and on....but If you made it this far, you don't need to read anymore about something that won't help you decide on the dv5. Just buy it. It's worth the money.
Someone really needs to go through and delete all the runduncy (and there is alot) AND delete the 98 pages of FED-EX/shipping updates. It's just not fair folks.
Do yourself a favor and read Chaz's review and be good with that. Plus you'll have time to live your life again.
-
welcome to the thread
i just joined myself today.. i tried to read from the beginning, but i gave up after oh... the first 7 or 9 pages.... for reasons you've mentioned already.
....and i ordered mine today as well.. it's on its way.

Whine we must...
Here you ahve some more wasted space. (Sorry, had to do that!)

Help! My brand new dv5t laptop freezes (nothing works, not even CAPS lock light) half the time I either pull the power cable out, or put it in, and the computer is on. I have to hold down the power button for several seconds to re-start it. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix?? Please?!?
-
Ok, well, maybe not "half the time" - what i meant was that it didn't do it *every* time. These intermittent problems are the worst and hard to prove. It freezes 'occasionally' when I either connect the power into the side of the computer, or pull it out. First I thought it was a problem with the QuickDock, given it used to freeze when connecting/disconnecting the docking connector, but now I realise it was just the power because the same thing happens when directly connecting power.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! -
Arg...I don't want to read through everything. I think it has been answered, but I can't find it. I currently have 2 gigs of ram (from a long time ago when it was $300 or $200 off a $999 model). I want to upgrade to 4 (using 64-bit vista), but I'm not sure which to get. Any links to good ram, whether online or in store (prefer in-store) and instruction on how to change ram on the dv5t? Thanks.
-
hey guys is there a way to get the touch controls & remote to work with itunes without it being the present window?
-
Aright a perfect 5.0
-
Howd you get a 5.0 for graphics card?
-
u overclocked it right?
-
lilcoolboi008,
Can you tell me.... how did you partition your drive (what sizes) for your quad boot, and how are you running mac? didn't know you could do that.
Tenspeed -
there's a relationship between the processor and the graphic card. the higher the processing power the more performance you'll be able to squeeze out of the 9600M-GT.
In my case i have a 2.4 GHz processor. hence my 5.0. Chad on the other hand have a 2.26 GHz. hence his 4.8 WEI
the bottleneck is the processor here seeing as the 9600-GT is quite a powerful performance card. see D. Section performance Video Card. -
I'd call tech support. You might have an issue with hardware and should get it replaced if it is a hardware issue.
-
What video driver version are you using? I haven't gotten around to testing the different video driver versions. My WEI is a 1 because that's what I get for video. It's probably the video driver. I really don't care about the rating. My machine is running fine, but I am curios about which video driver you're using.

Does anyone have the real part number for the 12 cell battery?
Is this the one?
http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/pr...d=in_r329_personalization/browse3/landing_PDP
says dv5000, is that the dv5t? or is this battery compatible with the dv5t? -
