Acually its simple. First I installed XP, made one partition with the built-in editor.
Then installed Vista and made another NFTS partition with the built-in editor. Then I installed EasyBCD to manage which OS I wanted to boot.
Then I downloaded iATKOS v4 and made an HFS+ partition with the built-in editor. After that, I installed Leopard.
Finally, I installed Ubuntu Linux and also made a separate partition for that as well.
-
-
So you made an extended journaled partition? What options did you choose (drivers, kernels, kexts, etc.) when installing Leopard from iATKOS? Were you able to get the ethernet and wifi working? What about the video?
I'm guessing that you had left a good chunk of unallocated space on your HD with your first OS and gradually used a chunk for each following OSes? -
It isn't officially for sale yet it seems. No dv5000 is not dv5t. There is only 6cell replacements currently.

Different question, but I didn't know where else to post this. My sister, if she decides to get a laptop, would like this model I think. I looked at one today and the WXGA monitor looks good to me. However, I thought it seemd fairly sluggish. Don't know if this was due to a fairly slow speed CPU it had (2.0 gHz I think, or if was the 5400 RPM HD.
Anyone here have one with a 5400 RPM HD which seems pretty fast? -
I have the 2.53Ghz t9400
-
Is the
because it is still not that fast, or because of heating issues during gaming?
-
No, because he has a slower processor than me and has a higher wei rating than me lol. I also have a newer driver for my graphics card.
-
I can see that HP doesn't provide 2.8Ghz anymore. Does anybody know how come??
-
hmmm....what driver version are you running?
7.15.11.7586 is the latest one.
You probably got the 1680 x 1050 display screen too huh? -
yea I do, and I'm running 7.15.11.7792
-
Price adjustment? I'm disappointed at HP for what's currently been happening. No more quad core for HDX18t, price changes for worse, some upgrades gone etc. I guess a person who doesn't know the history wouldn't care, but if you're like me and have been tracking it, the prices changes have been disappointing.
-
yeah i agree with u chango..
the 30% discount coupon i applied just now with same configuration i bought 2 weeks back comes out to 1320$.. 50 $ more than what i got it for..
they have reduced base price but smartly increased the rest..
even i've been following history of prices..so ya its a smart tactic they apply..
but anyway my dv5t is on its way.. -
my laptop is out for delivery w00t! kinda mad cause at first it said by 10:30AM and now its by 5:00PM but what ever I cant wait!
-
yeah i noticed myself, and the coupon came early? lol and im still waiting for my check XD. I should have it today, hopefully before the coupon runs out >_>...
-
YES! i just got it and unboxed it so far so good hey whats this centrino 2? isnt that the new one to core 2 duo?
-
centrino 2 its the new centrino..
its montevina processor...
if u got an sticker, that means u have montevina, intel wifi and... something else i cant remember
good for u
mine came about.. 1 month ago... but havnt even seen it since im not in the country for 2 monthe more -_- -
you may want to make sure you have the right model
-
Get the 179.13 driver if you're using Vista 32-bit and 178.15 if you use Vista 64-bit.
I'm using 178.15 and I get 5.0 for the graphics rating. -
Not really chango, the prices before for it were ridiculously cheap. They looked at the market, and adjusted to be competitive, and with coupons that is still the best deal.
-
going back to see what I would have paid if I bought the dv5t now it would have cost me.
$1304.99
compared that to when I used the $500 off
$1099.99
....yeah its definitely getting pricey
-
OMG everything is soooo tiny I am only 17 and it is hard for me to read on this upgraded screen
-
Set the font size to large and you should be in good shape.
FWIW, for my older eyes I actually prefer the standard display with this laptop.

If they stick to their previous schedule the next coupon should be the $500 flavor.
HP appears to have adjusted their base pricing upwards.
JohnG -
you mean the next coupon will be $500 off you think?
-
Just a guess.................. based on HP's previous coupon history.
The 30% coupon is very generous and might save you some $'s compared to the $500 coupon because the later requires a higher up-front total.

Good call...
Last time I used the 30% off, then had them price match to the 500 dollars off -
For some reason when I try to update video drivers I'm getting error: "The Nvidia Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
I tried couple different drivers and all of them show the same error.
I'm getting 4.8 score only having 9600M GT. Just want kick it up a little bit. I reinsatlled Vista and all drivers from original setup I download to C:\drivers
currently I have:
5/22/2008
7.22.11.7586 driver
Anyone can help me, please........ -
Are you getting the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com?
-
I would recommend getting the drivers from the HP site.
JohnG -
Can someone confirm to me that the "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection" feature is built into the motherboard and would be available if I put in a different hard drive? I've been looking online, and this ( http://www.google.com/products/cata...&cid=9017485874113397375&scoring=p#ps-sellers ) option seems to be far better than any of the order options on their site now. I tried asking a CSR, but they said that using a different hard drive would not give me the hard drive protection feature.
-
where is the webcam software?
-
You have to get rid of the old driver and then install the new one. I had the same error message and that worked for me. I'd get the one from laptopvideo2go.com
-
Would you be so kind and tell me how to get rid of old driver, please...........
-
I know this is obvious, but you copied over the modded inf when you were installing the driver, right?
-
Just got the 178.15 and still 4.8. I'm going to stop trying
, still runs just as good.
-
If you get the driver from the HP site you just run the exe and it will install automatically.
JohnG -
lol omg I have to wait another week for my financial aid refund check so I cant get the laptop today this sucks XD. I'm so impatient lol and I want to play World of Warcraft without any lag *sigh*
-
My Graphics Card shows only 4.8
I thought I can use one of the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com -
After a couple of weeks reading through this whole forum, and the excellent review from Chaz, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the DV5T. Here are my specs:

-No Modem
-SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

Overall a good price, but it was cheaper a couple of weeks ago with the $400 coupon -- still not a big deal though.
I am going to upgrade to the 320GB Seagate Momentus 7200RPM hard drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148336
And the 4GB of OCZ ram
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227251 -
I would be careful with the Hitachi drives because I believe they are not supported by the HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection.
Read this thread: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread164119.html
Its a little old but it basically says some Seagate, Western Digital and Samsung drives are supported by the Pocketsmart protection. -
bump someone please?
-
Have you called or emailed HP support?
-
Oh yeah, that's right. It is the modded inf folder. I forgot all about that - again.
-
Isn't it called something like YouCam or something stupid like that?
I never put it on after my clean install. You don't need it to use the webcam for things like Skype. I'm sure theres some free ware out there to make cool little home movies if you need to. -
thank you!
-
I can't find the rules kekeke.
If anyone interested, selling a slightly used Zalman NC2000 cooler and 4GB OCZ PC6400 800MHz ram that i used on a dv5t that i returned. Check my sig for info on em and also my review on how my zalman nc2000 helped cool the dv5t which has a known heat issue. -
wow. i was playing a game on my dv5t without raising the back by half an inch (2 pc game cases, one on each corner) and my laptop def. just shut off. that cant be safe/good. lol.
-
You said without raising the back... did you or did you not? Are you sure it was an overheating issue?
-
How much for the Zalman NC2000?
-
Check sig links. Looking for around 60$. You can get money back from ebay's live cashback.
